No fingerprint-manager available - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
after I changed my E6653 (with a broken Screen and damaged Motherboard, see other thread from me) i got an refurbished phone back but i cannot find the fingerprint-manager
under settings -> security.
Story behind: The swapped phone had got an branding from T-Com (here in Germany) -> already no fingerprint-manager
-> i flashed 32.1.A.1.185 Central Europe 1 CDA 1298-2388 on the phone, but the fingeprint-manager still wont show up.
When i asked Sonymobile about my problem they told me to send in the phone for repair because the entry should be available at any time.
Someone else got this problem too? Is this really a hardware problem, so it wont show up in the settings?
Thank you for help.

Have you tried flashing from different regions for E6653 and wiped data apps? this menu should be always available and might be a software problem.
Also under "Service Menu" (*#*#7378423#*#*) Service Test >> Fingerprint Test can you verify its status "Sensor Working"
If none of those works, this can be a hardware problem and needs repair =(

Resco tools and broken IMEI

Got my brand new HTC Touch Cruise the other week and it was working great. I then decided to try and Geotag my photos which apparently is as simple as changing a registery value. So off I go and download the trial of Resco Explorer 2007 and reg editor from their website and change HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\P9 »Enable« to 1
Soft reset the phone and then the phone no longer connects to the network.
(The geotagging feature of the camera worked fine too.....)
I uninstalled the tools, did a hard reset and reloaded the original ROM to no avail - the phone still refuses to connect to the network (Telstra NextG - Australia) which it was working fine with before. I have also noticed that when there is no Sim in the phone the IMEI does not agree with the one on the back and when the Sim is in it says the IMEI is "Not Support"
Any help would be appreciated, I'm missing my new toy already!
Do a Hard reset and your problems should be gone. Easiest way is "Settings > System > Clear Storage > 1234". Remember to sync your contacts before you do it and good luck
I'd already tried a hard reset and loading the latest ROM (Which was the same as the one it shipped with) but that did not work.
Just tried doing it again the way you suggested and it's still broken.
Also on further inspection my IMEI when it doesn't have a SIM in to is almost the same as the one of the back but just has an extra 01 on the end. It still says "Not support" when I have the SIM in it though....
All sorted out.... It seems it was an issue with Telstra(They said they had a brief outage, and for some reason my SIM didn't reconnect to the network until they gave it a "Kick"), not the phone that just happened at the same time as I was editing the registery. Talk about bad luck......

Yes so next time your Polaris not working so blame always your operator if the device dont connect, The imei cant NEVER chance with a registry chance what ever you do with the device the imei never changes, with that numbers you cant mess with
you said the imei changed when you have the sim card inside and evidently you couldn't connect to the network because of that... so deosn't that implys there's a 'possibility' that bypass the hardware imei by doing something to the sim? we might be on to something here guys..

Nexus 5 SIM not recognised

People,
I hesitate to ask the question again, but I promise you that I've read everything on the subject that I can find (including many of the 171 pages of the "Nexus 5 Flashable Modems and EFS Backup" thread...) and also on a lot of other sites.
My son's N5 on 5.1.1 ran out of battery a month ago (it worked perfectly for the 15 months that I had used it) and when he recharged it he'd lost mobile data. He had the mobile service triangle in the notification bar, but empty. No service.
I have tried absolutely every suggestion that I've read. Airplane mode on/off. Flashed 3 older radios. Installed older Lollipop & Kitkat 4.4.4 from Google Nexus factory image site. Installed the latest nightly of Cyanogenmod. Installed MPZ79M. Rooted it. Nothing works.
I don't believe it's a hardware problem - when I remove and replace the SIM the notification goes from the square with a diagonal bar across it ("no SIM") to the empty triangle. But as soon as I reboot (not just screen off & waken, but full restart) the triangle is replaced with the "No SIM" square again. The same reaction happens on the initialisation after a factory reset - at the "Register SIM" screen it says "No SIM", but extracting and replacing the SIM starts the "Attempting to connect to service" sceen, though this just does nothing until my patience runs out and I skip it. The SIM itself has 3 scratches along it, so all in all I don't think it's a contact problem, but something in the software. The SIM works fine in the Nexus 4 that I've given him.
EFS - I don't know enough about it still, but the phone displays the correct IMEI, so I'm hoping that this means that the EFS is not corrupted?
I know that this is a well-known problem, but on the off-chance that somebody has read a solution that I haven't found...
Thanks for your patience and any help you can offer.
Oh well...
...I guess I have a £350 paperweight?
I suppose at least I can use it as an entertainment console, since wifi seems to be ok. But a terrible shame to waste such a beautiful device.
Maybe you already tried it... Just to be sure:
a) You have incorrect APN configuration, to solve this try resetting your APNs via Settings > Wireless & networks > More > Mobile networks > Access Point Names and then click in three dots above and select "Reset to default".
b) Your mobile phone antenna unit is not working properly, solving this is pretty easy, shutdown your phone, remove your phone's back panel very carefully (using a plastic material..i did it using guitar pick) and then you'll see two wires adjacent to edges of your phone, just remove and refix them gently and reboot your device.
c) Reboot in safe mode and try to play with the preferred network type.
d) I had this problem "No service and no signal network in nexus 5" after restarting phone.
I tried to restart phone few times again and reinsert sim card. No luck.
Then I took sim card out while phone was on ( I forgot to turn it off) and reinsert it and now it's working fine.
It must be a contact problem. Just not shure how long will it work.

Thanks, Primokorn, I'll give your suggestions a go - appreciate the ideas.
I have tried the APN settings, but since there's no SIM (huh!) it's greyed out, though it's temporarily updateable if I extract/replace the SIM while the phone's on - but it's grey again on the next reboot.

Primokorn,
No luck. I tried all of these with no result at all. It looks as if this is a very serious flaw in the Nexus 5 - I had my doubts, to be honest, when my son said it started after the phone ran out of battery, but I see exactly the same explanation from other people in the huge number of threads reporting this no-radio problem. How can Google issue such a good phone with such a lousy bug in it...? No point in even asking them (though I've seen at least one person who tried with an impressivly helpful response from the Google support person) since not only is the phone out of warranty but it has been rooted.
Oh well, I enjoyed it while I had it...

1 week old Mate 9 bricked?

So after performing a factory reset on the device it booted normally the 1st time and asked me for my PIN (??). It accepted my usual PIN (!) and took me to a clean slate (all Play Store apps gone) BUT the wallpaper was still the same, my username was still there and the other user profile was also still there. What was missing was a keyboard so there was nothing I could do with the device.
OK no problem, lets perform another factory reset. So once again I hold volume up & the power button, select reset to factory settings, reboot... and this time it boots to a black screen with only the android navigation bar at the bottom and the words emergency mode on the bottom left.
Any ideas on what to do now, short of sending it back to the store?
This is a brand new unit, running EMUI 5 from the box, bought from an authorised dealer. It was not rooted or tampered with in any way or form.
I've seen those symptoms and I had to perform an erecovery. If you have the Chinese version you can do that if you have the international version I think erecovery isn't working just yet.
Sent from my MHA-L29 using XDA-Developers mobile app
I have a MHA-L29 bought in Europe. I assume erecovery is the mode enabled by pushing volume up, volume down & power button at the same time? At that point I would need the full OS in a microSD inside the device, correct? Apologies, I'm not well versed in Android...
Huawei's website offers very little help . All one can find is a link to the 'quick start manual', a link to EMUI's source code (Mate 9 is absent), a mobile wifi inspection tool, and HiSuite. I'm assuming HiSuite is of no help in this case?
Have I run out of options here? Is my next step returning the device to the shop?

The easiest choice for you is returning the device to the shop, but it can definitely be fixed.
Huawei made some very stupid decisions with the Mate 9. You cannot flash firmware from SD card anymore. You have to use eRecovery (boot the phone plugged into a computer holding the volume up key) to recover. However, this eRecovery has not launched for the european model, so you can't restore.
I might be able to help you using my DNS server because I have reverse-engineered a lot of how the Mate 9 works, but I don't have a European model to test with. If it's easy for you to return it to the store, that's probably the best option.
I've contact Huawei support and they'll be picking up the device by courier. They expect to have it returned in 5 days max. I did test the eRecovery mode that you've described and indeed it fails to gather the needed files ("Getting package info failed").
I appreciate you input, what would your method involve? I've seen firmware (B122) floating around the web, how are people flashing it if the SD card method isn't working for this unit? Having said that I wouldn't personally attempt anything that could possibly void the warranty.

when you make a factory reset in recovery on first boot you see lost the google service and also the keyboard (i know well i have done it two time in 4 days cause bootloop) how got the google service back? simply download from apkmirror a google keyboard (you need it for next step) and install it then go to settings/advanced settings and make a factory reset(need a pin in my case that why have installed a keyboard) when the device boot again you have the google service again
I see, thank you. I'll keep that in mind next time I reset the device. :good:
I then ask, if I do reset the device to factory settings and it craps out again, how would one know if eRecovery is able to recover European models? As of 3 days ago this option would throw a 'Getting package info failed' error. Short of trying it myself when I get my device back, has anything changed in the meanwhile? Is eRecovery working now?
hi mate, I only know what I've tried: eRecovery delete google service, eRecovery not erase password.factory reset from settings does reappear google services .... likely these problems are software bugs or are linked to nougat that has different partitions than to the past....sorry for now thats it

So I just got my phone back from the service center and the first impressions were not good. Before returning the phone they called me to ask for my Google username and password (!!) to make sure the device was successfully recovered. I obviously refused and just told them to kindly return the device and I would test it myself.
Well the package arrived today and is missing the SIM ejector and the IMEI back sticker. Not only that but it now refuses to install the Amazon Shopping app and Google PhotoScan app because "this app is incompatible with your device". How can this be if I had these two apps installed before??
I also noticed that the device claims to be an "Orange MHA-L29"... have these guys just flashed it with a firmware meant for Mate 9s sold through Orange?

mmmm too bad mate, your M9 is no brand? Orange is a carrier ....my opinion is ask why this change and ask for phone replacement
Yep, unbranded bought from an authorised dealer.
I am now going to escalate it and try to have this unit rejected and exchanged for a brand new one. I sure hope they don't propose replacing it with a refurbished unit, after all we're talking about a €700 device here and it has spent more time in the service center than in my hands. Very frustrating.
And this whole "no way to use eRecovery yet" and "no way to flash it from MicroSD" is just the last nail in the coffin... I mean what were they thinking? Even Apple devices allow me pick up the corresponding firmware and flash it at home from day 0. I hear the P9 Plus is less restrictive, maybe I should have gone for one of those instead?
I've got a real lemon here... let's see how they handle my case, I'll keep you all updated.

Nokia 5.3 doesn't vibrate

Hi, I can't find any thread about this topic, I hope I didn't miss anything.
The problem:
In October, I've bought Nokia 5.3 with Android 10 in Czech Republic (Europe, probably German or UK distribution) and I found out it doesn't vibrate. I tried an app that's dedicated to vibrating but it doesn't do anything and switching to vibrate-only mode using the menu invoked by volume keys switches the phone basically to a full DND mode.
I searched the Internet and found a few reports of other users of Android 10 phones with a similar problem. (None of them, however, with a Nokia phone, at least not concretely Nokia 5.3). I hence assume it's not a defect of my phone but rather a software bug in Android. I'm of course rather reluctant to test this by returning the phone and getting a new one thru warranty because I did put some time into setting this one up. I reached out to the Nokia support but they were unable to help me further than advising me to check a few settings (which were OK) and told me I probably need to wait for an OS update.
The question:
Do you have Nokia 5.3 and do you or do you not have the same problem?
Thank you very much for your experience and suggestions.
Hi,
I have Nokia 5.3, bought it recently. However I hate vibrations so that was the first thing I disabled in the settings. It was vibrating like hell . Check your phone settings, there is an option to turn it on and off.
Cheers!
Hi toppicks,
thanks for confirming that it's obviously not a software issue. I checked all the settings I could, none of them change anything.

Finally, I found time to do the factory reset, it didn't help. I tried with the SIM card and also without it, the phone still doesn't vibrate. I'll go return it to the vendor on Monday, hopefully, I'll get it resolved that way.

Bought used 970F with Magisk, relocked, flashed stock UI5, no network at all

*****FINAL UPDATE: THIS POST IS A WASTE OF TIME WANDERING AROUND SOLUTIONS FOR THE IMEI. THE REAL REASON IS THAT I WAS SCAMMED AND BOUGHT A STOLEN PHONE WITHOUT KNOWING, AND THE IMEI/IMEIs WERE CHANGED, so when I factory reset the phone, the IMEIs were gone. If you're in the same situation, see if you can return the phone. If not, the only thing you can do is sell it AS IT IS, because YOU WERE PROBABLY SCAMMED, LIKE ME, so please sell it declaring the state of the phone and the IMEIs.*******
****If you want to read the entire post, go ahead, but you'll waste all your time. You were scammed, it's a stolen phone, end of story.****
Guys I was really excited about this purchase, I tested network with the seller, on both SIMs, both worked great, 4G data, when I took it home I noticed the phone was BL unlocked with Magisk, which made me worry about any security issues or not being able to update. Relocked BL from download mode, flashed stock G970FXXSDFUI5 (I live and bought it here in Colombia), and I checked this was the same FW that it had while rooted with Magisk
Cleared data/cache, flashed successfully, warnings gone, but no network at all, this is what I have:
- Only emergency calls with any SIM in any slot, already tried different carriers
- Checked IMEI in national blacklist database imeicolombia.com, they're both clean
- When trying to make a call "not registered on network"
- When going into Mobile Networks - Select Network - Select Automatically is ON, if I try to turn off it instantly says "Error searching for networks" and the switch stays on, so no "Manual Search" button.
Already tried clearing data/cache of SIM Toolkit app, what am I missing? Thank you!
UPDATE: I went through all the process of unlocking BL again and rooting again with Magisk successfully following this tut
with updated Magisk, etc, but still no ntwk, will now try flashing other countries same/higher SW REV, will post any other update.
Additional steps: I tried putting 2G only or 3G only and reset APNs to see if "Select Automatically" switch was fixed but same story, it wont turn off and shows same "Error while searching for networks" msg right away
UPDATE 2: I wanted to share a video I found that shows the exact same error that I get in the "Mobile Networks" menu:
Altough I rly dont think it's the same situation, cause in that video, the phone has no signal at all, mine is able to pick full signal for emergency calls. I rly dont think my situation is that of hardware but some kind of software/activation/sim thing (It's not the SIM bc it works in any other phone)
Please someone help me, I've invested more than labor hours researching and trying to fix this, I fear I could damage the phone by flashing it so many times

A VERY VERY VERY complex process. It turns out the answer was a very simple one. They sold me a stolen phone with the IMEIs changed, so at the moment that I factory reset the phone, the "fake" IMEIs were cleared, leaving the phone with NULL IMEIs. In short, I got scammed, had to sell the phone declaring the situation, ofc for a quite discounted price due to the fact of it being a stolen phone.
ALERT 1: WHEN YOU'RE GONNA BUY A SAMSUNG PHONE, ASK THE SELLER IF IT CAN BE FACTORY RESET RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM/HER BEFORE PAYING. IF THE SELLER SAYS YOU CAN'T, YOU CAN ALREADY GUESS WHAT'S GOING ON.
ALERT 2: NOW THEY CAN CRACK THE SAMSUNG PHONE IMEIS SO IF YOU FACTORY RESET, IT WOULD KEEP THE FAKE IMEIs, so the only thing you can do is go into this website:
IMEIpro - free Samsung IMEI checker
Check information about your Samsung cell phone - model, serial number, manufacture date. Verify Samsung carrier, age of the phone, purchase country, CSN number and other details.
imeipro.info
Enter the IMEI and the website will show you THE SERIAL NUMBER. COMPARE IT WITH THE ONE SHOWN IN THE PHONE. IF THEY DON'T MATCH, THE PHONE IMEI HAS BEEN CHANGED, LIKELY A STOLEN PHONE! DO NOT BUY IT!
This is the best guide I have for buying used samsung phones so far
