As far as I know Google will release the new version of Android OS some time in the mid this month.

Welcome to XDA! Nothing official on a date but maybe by the end of Oct.
What device are you using and planning to upgrade?
i personally wont expect it for months yet. even more so to be ported to existing devices.

Froyo was running / ported on the motorola droid within a week of the Google I/O announcement. The nexus one had it officially released 24 hours or so after the announcement.
Any build of 3.0 will get ported to most major phones (well the phones that aren't locked down, thanks so much moto droid 2 / X and the new HTC g2) in less then a week from any build released.
I thought the rumoured date was Nov. 11th or something like that
No source because i forget where i got that one from
This might shed some light

Translate it, enjoy.
They have not released the Android Nougat update for a full one year since its original release on the Nexus 5X phone.
Moto X is now running OS that's two releases old
Congratulations Lenovo! You did it!
Now Lenovo, do you think I will ever buy one of your mobile devices again? Forget it.
Here you should write it:

We are not here for crying.

Ok, then. I'll wipe my tears and move on.

Poor Motorola. How the mighty fall. Imagine if Motorola were still owned by Google. Maybe we'd be on 7.1.1 now? Or Oreo? One can only dream.
Coming from the Nexus 5x and there are many Oreo roms..so i was wondering why there ist noch Oreo Rom for the Pixel..? And dont get me wrong..i have no problem with that..Just wonderering
With Kind regards
Ah..OK..after some reading..the first step is not really good finished yet..custom Recovery and root.
Wow..never was thinking that root and other stuff will be so complicated as on an iPhone to get it Jailbreaked
Are we in the point that google want that we just use our phones..?
Then we dont need sources and others...
..sorry..but i must write it down here..and hope to get some answers..
.. because the way to get all things done..from the HTC desire (bravo with Android 1-2) till the Nexus 5x and Samsung s6 was always the same..and now this..
I have for sure some Experience to look behind some curtain..but atm i am a bit frustrated
Root is no problem, fastboot boot to TWRP and install it.
This phone is much more challenging than other handsets due to the fact Google has implemented dual booting partitions. It also seems they aren't as interested in the developer community now that they are making their own phones and not just putting out an OS for Android. So, this handset isn't as friendly for devs, except for those who are really into masochistic behavior (self punishment). If you're looking for a really robust developer community you probably should stick to Samsung or a few other manufacturers and avoid Google for the foreseeable future.
Just my thoughts.
Really unbelievable that there are no ROMs due to those issues.
Will sell my Pixel and keep my Nexus 6P
I'm thinking of selling my pixel and getting a oneplus 5, or waiting to see how the modding scene evolves for the razor phone.
Truly disappointed the pixel line didn't follow on from nexus devices.
I will do so.
Got my pixel used and defective, Google will replace it for free so I will be able to sell it as new.
Would it be possible to install substratum and xposed framework?
Thought of getting nexus 6p,but bought the pixel thinking that it would get more development..
now I'm regretting that decision..?
I would of thought there would be possibly some way of reformatting the partition size or even changing partitions completely

for that ..S-off is needed..but a great idea through
Really funny how things have changed. It wasn't that long ago that if you wanted a phone that was easy to root, and had tons of developers, with tons of ROM options, you got a Nexus. Now that the Pixels are here, it's just the opposite.
The only saving grace is Google will continue supporting the pixel until October 2019 so I'm not going to be stranded with a phone I can't update.
Got the XL as a warranty replacement for my almost 2 year old 6P that had battery dying issues.
I do like the XL, have it rooted with Magisk, just waiting for Pure Nexus. If revo gets Xposed working Oreo, may not go custom rom at all.
Not many things the phone can't do that requires custom
bootloader unlock and custom kernel if required for some tweaks, however
pure android is actually freaking lovely
is any other device on oreo? let alone 8.1 (if you have beta)

Quite a few devices are getting both official and unofficial 8.0 updates. As far as 8.1 I'm pretty sure it's still in beta so it's only available for the Google family of devices as there is no way to look into the source of the beta and try to compile it for other phones.
There are more issues than the A/B partition scheme that these phones have:
1) They are extremely expensive so there were not too many people who bought them in the first place
2) There are a lot of people and devs who have sold their Pixels for Pixel 2's
3) Project Treble which sounded like a good idea has actually caused more problems for this phone for custom development, which did not affect any Nexus models. All the kinks related to this need to be worked out too as it is a new issue as of Oreo
You will see some rom action in the foreseeable future though

How would you rate the Pixel against the Nexus 6P?
Is it worth the upgrade?
I got a broken 6P for 80€ and a broken Pixel for 180€
Both were replaced (Nexus against Nexus, cause it was bought from 3rd party and not Google).
Nexus would sell for 250€, Pixel for 400€

I miss my 6P, thought it was an awesome phone but the battery issue SOT of 2 hours after 2 years was killing me. Got the XL as a warranty replacement for virtually nothing, so it was a win-win.
Once the custom roms roll out, it will rival or exceed the 6P, I have no doubt.
Hi guys, Im currently the owner of a Nexus 6P looking for an upgrade. Im torn between the Pixel 2 XL and OnePlus 6!
I love the quick software updates on the pixel line but i've heard that OnePlus is pretty good at getting updates out and with Android 8.1 bringing project treble would it be right to assume the updates could be even faster in the future?
How does oxygen OS compare to stock android? Have people with 5Ts had quick updates?
Thanks

Hey buddy,
I'm currently on the OnePlus 5 and have had it since launch. It's my first OP phone and won't be my last.
In terms of updates, I would say OnePlus is one of the best out there (at least in the first year of a phones release). Having said that, the OP3/T seem to have had pretty decent updates in their second year with them getting an Oreo 8.0 beta before the OP5/T!
With treble being mandatory on any new phone now, it will be there and their release cycle will no doubt be impacted by it. I can only assume this will be to our (as consumers) benefit.
If you want the fastest updates out there after / in line with Pixel then the main other contender is Nokia. They are doing all of the monthly security updates and sometimes before they come to the Pixel phones.

Well it's great to see the OnePlus 6 is being released with the Android P Beta program! Makes me confident that OnePlus will have fast updates due to project treble!!
https://www.xda-developers.com/lineageos-drops-support-devices-inactive-maintainers/
TL;DR:
LineageOS drops official support due to inactive maintainers for Moto X Style/Pure alongside other Motorolas (such as Moto Z2 and G4) and other devices as well (most prominently Galaxy Note 3 and 8, HTC 10, Oneplus X, LG G3, Nexus 7 2013, several LG GPads and the recently released Xiaomi Redmi Note 5).
What do you think about this situation? Is support for our Moto X Style officialy dead?

MXPE is still a great phone 3.5 years on!!
Losing LineageOS for it is a great loss! I wish I had more time on my hands to help support this great device.
I use LineageOS in combination with MicroG, so yes! it's a big loss. But I hope I can still use this phone for 2 more years at least. I've planned to get a new mobile contract in 3 months. This time without a smartphone. Next will be a Copperhead Pixel 2 or, if it's available in the future, a Copperhead Pixel 3.

That's very interesting. I wonder how it is living with a phone with Copperhead OS and/or F-droid apps only.
Some people say that avoiding Google services and using F-droid instead in a standard ROM like Lineage gives you an extra hour of screen on time and improved idle power consumption, but information online is scarce about that particular subject. Most people use F-droid just to avoid Google for privacy reasons.
Considering the phone release date was over 3 years ago, I'm not too surprised that ROM development is tapering off at this point. Many users have switched to new devices. The fact that a reliable battery replacement has been so hard to find until recently helped drive more people away. I can't blame devs for moving on.
Legendary phone stands on its own
Thankfully, the stock Rom on this phone is good enough that there's really no need for these. Still, it's better to have more choices than to have fewer choices, so it will be a bit of a hypothetical bummer to one of the greatest smartphones ever.
Long live the Pure Edition!

Just go to the Post below for more info. Ifixit is involved with it so I would imagine it is legit. They can sell just the battery or the entire kit.
I personally got mine off ebay and got lucky. 7+ months and still going strong.

So sad because I wanted to install a custom rom in my moto x pure . Im new to rooting so is there any way to download the rom regardless not having support anymore?

lmao, it never was... Very bad cpu with throttling issues, weak battery, no official batteries for replacement, poor official and unoficial support, poor build quality and no fingerprint scaner lol
