[Completed] One Of The Worst Websites In Data "Management" - XDA Assist

I thought XDA have improved after years, but unfortunately they've got from bad to worse, it became more of spam, junk on data treatment indeed. It does motivate not to be an active member to prevent dealing with that and escape before getting infected with that brain weariness which leads to mental retardation.
No wonder i've seen some-one who just joined the church and he was crying out tears of happiness, joy, excitement for he was so surprised by the method of treatment he has received by that church members and whilst his interview as i was watching him shedding tears he enthusiastically said: ~ "I have been treated like a king from the first day". R.O.F.L.?
Which isn't surprising for original Christians for it says on Luke 6:31
"And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them."
But the problem most people do pretend Christianity. And all what they do is a depravation to its' conception indeed.
If the data treatment in that church was as the same level in XDA, or similar to then that person would be crying because of mistreatment. R.O.F.L.?

[BACKGROUND][RIP] In memory of those who fell

Today at 8:56am Warsaw time, in Smolensk near Katyn (Russia) there has been horrible and tragic air crash in which 96 people died...amongst them the President of Poland and his Wife as well as 18 members of Polish parliament including 3 deputy-speakers, Presidential ministers, most of the top military commanders, governors of many important governmental agencies (Central Bank, IPN, Polish Olympic Committee, Law Society, National Security Bureau), Bishops and priests of catholic, protestant and orthodox faith, members of NGO Rodzin Katynskich.
For many members of XDA this time is very difficult and sad times...
To commemorate them I created some backgrounds...for polish (and not only) people who would like to pay a tribute to them during a "National Week of Mourning".
I'm not professional graphic designer and I've done it quickly but perhaps this will be a start and someone from our community more talented then me like grzegorz10 will do something much nicer
Rest In Peace
we are all sharing the pain
with the polish people
be strong
All of Poland is crying...
i just folowed the story on a russian news channel.
absolutely tragic
to the people of poland: europe is with you, we will help any way we can, be strong
thanks for your comforting words... i was hoping that some of xda members prepare their own and more profesional wallpapers... let see it is still early...
All day Saturday, thousands of residents flocked to central Warsaw, the site of the presidential palace.
They left wreaths and lit candles. As night fell, the numbers grew to about 100,000 by some estimates. Many cried openly while others stared blankly at the sky.
On Monday, the country begins a week-long period of mourning.
Is the most tragic moment in our history. Thank you guys, its very touching.
Its so sad... i work for a polish company (can-pack uk) Thoughts are with them all at this sad time......
It should have been Mugabe and his regime!!!!! The situation in Zimbabwe ridicules now!! I was born and raise in zim, its so sad to see such a beautiful country being destroyed......
Maci...this is not the time and place to weave such wording...anyone is innocent until proven guilty (do not know your background but in civilized world that is the base of our law)...
think before you speek...and don't assume anything as it make an ass of u and me. if u have nothing positive to add to this thread (thems, backgrounds, or just comforting words in this sad times for so many)... do not
i did not liked his presidency and was in opposition to his views but i'm a human being who is shell shocked by the tragedy...no one deserved to die there...and responsibility for that crash will be revield by authorieties.
hope moderator will delete your entry...

Samsung do you not pay attention

If samsung were smart they would not have hyped up a issues thread and they would have payer attention to all of the questions they've been hit by on twitter and come with a statement. Is that really that hard or did they just wanna poll how many angry users they still have.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I'm curious how hard the XDA staff was laughing as SamsungJohn contacted them to make the huge announcement.
I bet Samsungjohn called frantic to have XDA shutdown the thread because it was going down in flames.
What's really amusing is when you look at what has happened over the past 3 days or so. Man, they REALLY did stir up an absolute frenzy. Hundreds and hundreds of posts in multiple threads and it accomplished absolutely nothing but re-igniting a lot of burning anger that had simmered down quite a bit since 2010. I visualize it as poking a stick into a fire ant hill then watching the ticked of buggers go nuts. Such a shame.
I think it had a lot more to do with the aggressive and adversarial way people asked non-questions, like trying to get people on twitter and fb to trash the whole process. If people treat someone like crap, when they come here to try and solve problems, what is the motivation to help us?
Mob mentality won't solve anything folks. You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.
I have no clue what they were thinking. I was ok, now I am irate
Ok guys we are not gonna start a flam fest over this. Thread closed

ShootMe Dev Giving up on Android Community? What about you?

I wrote about it here: LINK
Does anyone know more about the background - from the twitter account it seems like just a general run-down and a disappointing community.
Other developers on here feel the same?
I'd love to get comments from some of the developers on here, if that is the case.
I'm not a developer but did read this already on a posting at Google+.
But you are right, moving into that direction would be very bad.
Some people think they can be rude because they stay anonymous.
Its something that happens more and more these days on the internet.
I realize it's impossible - there are 12 year olds who probably run rampant.
Seems like there is SOMETHING that can be done.
I'm as Pro-Android as they come. But at times it feels like starting a relationship with a beautiful boy/girl only to find they come with a sack load of emotional baggage.
Here's my take on it: http://andgamesdevblog.blogspot.com/2011/09/android-culture-its-own-worst-enemy.html
I am far from giving up (thick skinned) but there is a real troll culture growing and needs to be stomped out. Anonymity has it's uses but, as with everything else, has its drawbacks. What we need is troll hunters!

(aka Strangemoo)
I have seen that there are some stupid comments on the market... But not so extreme as to take down your app...
Some users is just plain stupid... I'm from Denmark, so a lot of the comments are in danish... But that devs are many times foreign and really don't look or understand the comments... But a lot of them complain about pathetic things like no app 2 sd or that some function suddenly's gone instead of just writing the dev an email about the issue and giving the app the respect it deserves... 1/5 rating is a lot of the times not justified...
Just my 2-cents...
I'm sorry but this is a silly and immature move by the developer. Receiving negative feedback, dealing with trolls and idiotic users that don't understand technology are fundamental assumptions of the internet, just like not giving out your passwords or helping Nigerian princes get their money out of Africa.
I loved ShootMe and used it for our screenshots, but I don't have a lot of empathy for people that empower others to control how they feel.
Wrote about this a few weeks back: http://www.androidstatic.com/what-shootme-removed-from-the-android-market
I work in IT support and one of the things I have to support is phones. It blows my mind how many 10-12 year old kids have nicer phones than I do because their rich mommy and daddys think their precious little angels needs the latest and greatest smart phones. I went over to a client's office a couple of months ago and he had 3 brand new Droid 2s for his kids, ranging from 10-14.
Point of all this?
In this day and age, there are so many rude little kids with nice phones all over these forums, its amazing to me anyone sticks around. Im over 40 and was raised in a different time than these self entitled children I see around here that want everything now, for free and want you to do it for them.
I cant blame the guy for leaving. A lot of times I wish I could go live on an island somewhere where I didnt have to deal with people because most of them suck.

I'm not a developer, but I was a ShootMe user on my EVO 4G. When it received the upgrade to Gingerbread, the app stopped working. The developer never replied to my email and from reading comments on Market didn't reply to anyone.
He did finally released a new version of ShootMe, but you had to have a computer to use it. Also everytime your reboot your phone, you had to sync everytime with your computer.

Welcome to the "masses".
Want a better experience? Go smaller. Dev for Windows Phone, or Web OS, or RIM.
Once something becomes part of the main stream, you'll see the d-bags start rolling in. Even something like xda can be tarnished once it "gets too big". There is hardly a day that goes by where I don't read a thread here that doesn't make me shake my head. This used to be a highly technical forum, back when every devices was htc and running windows mobile.
The only thing that can really be done, is to work with a smaller, more appreciative community. I doubt you would get very many jerk off comments from a Windows Phone user, they are happy to get whatever they can.
All very good points. I wish I had put a little into my thoughts before typing that up - dev's need to be tougher AND respond to people.

As a android developer IMHO the android community is as bad as they come. Xda for example used to be a place of collaboration. Currently its a place where maybe .1% do dev, .9% appreciate the development and try to help, 99% ether complain or say nothing at all. Whether the development is for free or profite(which I won't evev get into here) how is a developer supposed to work off of that? Users would rather right a comment blasting a developer who has literally spent days of his life on some product without even attempting to resolve the issue themselves.
I'm not saying some complaints are not warranted, just saying flip the coin around and its not so hard to understand the developers standpoint.

There is no denying that there is frustration on both sides. This frustration seems to stem from expectation, communication and control.
The developer expects their customers to be civil.
The users expects the developers to devote anything between some to all of their resources/free time building/making their products better.
Both are unreasonable expectations if you think about it.
Civility can only be maintained in a mediated environment - the Android Market seems only concerned about brand and copyright issues. Google seems to think that it's ok to put its developer behind chicken-wire with lights in their eyes whilst their customers are free to hurl beer bottles at them. Dealing with anony-trolls is time consuming and offputting.
Developers range from teenagers with spare time on their hands up to multi-million dollar development studios. I, myself, am a father of three, I work a full week (we've got to eat!) and I code when time permits. Even though I respond to every request put to my apps, if you think that I'm going to compromise the balance of other areas of my life to put in a bug fix - think again. Sure, some of the more effluent businesses can throw more resources into a project, but just bare in mind that most of us are just people and not doormats. Respect and encouragement is all it takes to make the market a happy place. Flaming just ruins things for all (on both sides).
Communication between devs and end users is and most likely always will be a bit of a sticking point. The fact that everyone has their own opinions, likes, dislikes kind of makes it obvious that there will never be an app with 100% 5 stars. Even the most popular apps on the market have ratings across the board. Though, admittedly, some of the low grades may be down to trolling - but some of them will be genuine. Communication takes time. From a user, it may take a couple of minutes out of their day. For the dev, they may have hundreds a day to deal with. This takes them away from the development that the mail is probably asking for!
A user doesn't, and should never have control over the developer. They should, however, be able to request, beg, plead *nicely*. If they get frustrated then they should remember the phrase 'you get what you pay for'. The developer doesn't get any money when you bought your phone - so don't think they have any obligation to give you something for nothing. If it's a paid app, then the developer is saying 'yes, I'll support it.' That's fair sport.
The developer should have some control over their customers in the sense that a shopkeeper can choose who they let in their shops. Unfortunately they have none. They can't even moderate the comments on the market. I've had a 'GAY - Pointless, uninstall' (his words, not mine) on a free app downloaded 12,000 times and has a 4* rating. I can't do anything about it. It always appears when people go to the page. This individual has hurt my app and me without provocation. I didn't ask anything from them. Fortunately, the following message pointed out that the 'Pointless' user was an idiot (thanks XZombie), hopefully it will negate some of the damage. We're completely at the mercy of the masses, and being a relatively new dev, it's a scary place to be!
It's a shame that the most influential party in all of this is hiding behind a wall of silence.
If you're interested - I'm keeping a track of my experience of Android development. The link is in my earlier post.

Paul, I do agree with you to a point. But I'm not sure if I like about developers editing comments. But I do see what you mean about people leaving dumb comments for an app that does work.
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D using Tapatalk
Katt,
I don't suggest developers could edit comments - that would make the process equally pointless, as devs can put all of the 'nice' things they want in the description anyway. Sorry if I implied otherwise.
Devs should be able to either remove, request for removal or even block the rogue elements. At present, we have to just live with the insults with no way to disprove their claims. Even a 'troll flag' would be an improvement - to show other users that the dev disagrees with the comment.
All accountability is on the devs whereas trolls can run freely.
Do any other devs out there agree with me on this? Others may have had a much more dealings with such than I have.
Cheers,
Paul
IMO if google was smart they would allow for a limited ammount(% of total) of "submissions" of there comments to a third party(google). If they are found outlandish they can be removed.
My 2 cents lol. I can say as a dev of a few apps on the market I have gotten rediculous comments n 1 stars b4. I mean if they are justified that's a different thing entirely. But my 1 stars are disproportionally higher then the trend of the others. Which proves one thing...

This is an honestly great thread. Good initiative to |OP|
Taking down an app just because of a few nasty comments is just
childish and quite frankly pathetic.
Seems that developer has chucked his toys out the pram, if he does
decide to release it again who is going to trust such a developer?
I know I wouldn't use the app again, seeing as he's stuck 2 fingers up
to loyal users and the whole android community all because of a small
minority of people.
The whole thing stinks of the guy thinking he is above any kind of bad
feedback, obviously a developer that doesn't listen to the users of his
app and a developer that turns his back at the drop of a hat.
I'm sure he will be missed... Not
Ps. there are better screenshot apps out there
I agree with your comment. Though I am not a dev. I have experience working in the retail end of software. This is a I want it now society, folks forget that they got this software/app for free and as soon as they have a little issue they fly off the deep end cussing out the maker/distribitor of the product. Anyhow like you said you get what you pay for.LIke in my IT course in school my book said "check the dummy behind the keyboard" anyhow thanks for the great apps i use the time flies app.
If a dev dropped his customers because of a couple of snide comments then, yeah, I'd agree with you.
But was that the case for ShootMe?
Before we start flinging hooks around here, wouldn't it be more productive to actually find out what happened first.
I may be proven wrong here, but the guy must've been given some serious grief to take such a newsworthy action.
In fact, that's not been mentioned - it could be media storming. Drum up enough publicity and come back blazing. Only time will tell on that one.
At the end of the day, it's his property. And if he makes a lot of people unhappy that's his prerogative. The reason he's giving though are indeed a real issue the community needs to address.
The plot thickens.
(Glad you like Times Flies! You're most welcome)
Paul
I've noticed that the flavor of a community will vary a lot by device. The Captivate community seems to be generally good and helpful for the most part, but I've heard horror stories of ungratefulness and rudeness about communities around other devices. It may be the same sort of thing with different varieties of apps. If people feel like an app performs a function they deserve outright, they may be less inclined to courtesy and more inclined to selfish expectation.

What is a troll

The term "troll" can have a double meaning, related to fishing and ugly monsters. Both are appropriate.
"Troll," in the context of message boards and the like, describes somebody who is posting just to be confrontational or to raise hackles. One example might be a teenager who finds a Jewish message board and posts, "The Holocaust never happened." The teen may not know or care one way or the other--he just wants a reaction. He wants to piss people off. He is a troll.
There are more subtle trolling techniques as well. One Internet dictionary gives a real example in which somebody posted about "the discovery of an ancient African carving containing a list of prime numbers." The poster listed some of the prime numbers supposedly on the carving, some of which weren't actually primes. People who saw the message, thinking he was serious, responded with corrections. The troll then announced that those who spent their time responding to him had been "hooked."
That suggests how the term got its start. Trolling, to those who don't spend all their time in front of the computer, is a method of fishing where you trail bait through the water from a slow-moving boat hoping to hook an unwary fish. An online troll does much the same.
The other meaning of troll--a brutish monster who lives under a bridge--likely didn't have much to do with the origin of the term. But at an early stage it was conflated with the other sense of trolling for obvious reasons: if you've dealt much with trolls, you know you're dealing with some pretty ugly minds.
To be fair, not all trolls are slimeballs. On some message boards, veteran posters with a mischievous bent occasionally go "newbie trolling." On the Usenet newsgroup alt.folklore.urban, as of a few years ago anyway, it was fairly common for pranksters to post known urban legends as fact in hopes of getting novice users to go, "No, REALLY?" Gotcha, sucker.
The main point about trolls is that they intentionally mislead others. As the Free Online Dictionary of Computing notes, "Trolling aims to elicit an emotional reaction from those with a hair-trigger on the reply key. A really subtle troll makes some people lose their minds."
"Troll" is often flung about too casually. If somebody is simply ignorant or obtuse, it's incorrect to call him a troll. Admittedly, it's not always easy to distinguish between someone pretending to be wrong and someone who is wrong and doesn't know it or won't admit it.
How does one deal with trolls? That depends on your personality, the overall disposition of the message board, and the type of message board you're using.
There are two kinds of message boards: moderated and unmoderated. On unmoderated MBs such as most Usenet newsgroups, no one is in charge and there is no way to prevent a troll from posting short of persuading his Internet service provider to cancel his account. Moderated boards like the Straight Dope Message Board offer more control--truly egregious trolls can be banned and their posts deleted. But most board moderators, including those at the SDMB, reserve that sanction for extreme cases. A post I consider trolling someone else may find thought-provoking. Too quick a finger on the "delete" button and you open yourself to charges of censorship.
Besides, this is the Internet, the closest we've come to a free marketplace of ideas. The prevailing ethic here is that it's best to let everyone have his say, and rely on the good sense of other participants to sort out sound ideas from stupid ones. Which means it all comes down to you.
Many people feel trolls should simply be ignored, and some message boards have evolved their own private codes to warn off other users. (On the SDMB, one such code is DNFTT, "do not feed the trolls"). But others dislike the idea of giving trolls free rein.
On the SDMB, Cecil's goal of fighting ignorance is generally the guiding principle. If somebody posts misinformation, other users feel obliged to point it out. I'm sure some trolls delight in getting others to respond in this way, but the choice is either that or let a troll's posts stand unchallenged. Ignoring obvious nonsense has some advantages, but what about naive users who may read the falsehood and, seeing nothing to rebut it, believe it? To prevent that, some advocate responding to trolls once and only once. You refute the misinformation and that's that. Of course, this is often easier said than done, and many people (myself included) simply cannot sit idly by while the troll gleefully continues to post BS.
The other option is to pounce on every last falsehood and fabrication. This can lead to a classic flame war. We've had threads on the SDMB with close to a thousand posts as users attempt to get in the last word with an obstinate troll. These battles can be exhilarating but also exhausting. Inevitably at some point you ask yourself: what's the point?
In short, you've got two possibilities--ignore the troll or argue with him. My recommendation is as follows: If the person is a well-known troll with low credibility, post once to point out the flaws and then ignore him. If there's a real chance he may fool people who don't know better, knock him down with facts.

Threads like this belong in Off Topic.

well, this is it!

So after days and days of countless efforts and frustrations i have decided to give up on a rooted rom that i have been trying to work on. I've had some help, not much, but some at least. I've spent too many days in front of a computer awaiting responses for guidance that i have never received. I was in high hopes to have a rom for the s8+ community done by Tuesday of the new year. But,unfortunately, I wont be finishing it. I've tried many things to repack the files i've extracted from the system.img and it wont boot properly and hangs at PARTITIONING in Odin. I am sorry to the community for trying and not succeeding. I have little time left in the free world before i'm off to jail. And i refuse to spend it sitting at my computer all day all night waiting for responses from XDA members that will not reply to the questions i am asking. I know everyone knows me on here as an asshole and if i may i'd like to explain. I have been a member since 2013, i'm pretty sure from before that under a different username, and i have seen many changes in this community from then till now. XDA was the only place i knew where to go to find answers without being harassed or ridiculed. XDA was the place where people would provide useful information if you were new to the tech world or old with the tech world. You could ask anything and people wouldn't make the remarks they make now and they weren't even involved to begin with. Nowadays, you ask one thing and the certain few jack asses like to start ganging up on people with remarks that are irrelevant to what the person is saying. The best part about that is, the ones who involve themselves are the first to cry to the moderators and PM you with hilarious messages. I don't know about you guys, but, i was here to learn things that i could do on my spare tme besides hacking haha. But, what i'm saying is this community has not been what it was and i no longer want to be a part of it,because, i have little time left with my family and id rather spend it with them then getting nothing done.
Just so any readers reading this is advised, this is not a blame game or a cry-baby issue, this is my sign out from these forums. I have had the best experiences here and i've had the worst. I've acted out of frustrations, it gets tiring waiting for help. Example: if you are on a life raft in the middle of the ocean, a helicopter hovers over you, you can see the pilot, co-pilot,and one person for the task of the rescue mission. They drop the rope only to pull it back up and tell you they'll be right back for you. And guess what? They never came back!
Thats what it feels like here now.
So for whatever its worth i thank you all who have truly been there to help and learn from the guys who've been here a while that aren't trying to win a popularity contest. To all you know-it-alls here on these forums, stop being the first to cry to the MODERATORS, you can't handle it, don't involve yourselves. Stop being a thug behind a screen and keyboard.
With enough said,
Thank you XDA for allowing me for being here as long as i did.
You all take care and have a safe New Year.
Its okay to delete my account now, MODERATORS you dont need to PM me if i'm certain, I AM! haha ALOHA guys
I distanced myself from XDA for the same reason. It isn't the same anymore. At least not in the Samsung forums.
Enjoy your time with family and have a happy and safe year ahead!
