Is a CWM Backup Moveable?

I haven't seen this asked before, and I need some help with this one.
My CWM backup is taking up nearly 2gb on my 8gb p3113 tab. I need that space back to install something (its a big game). Can I zip that up and move it off my internal SD? Can I move it as is to my ExtSD? Will CWM be able to find it if I compress it or move it? (I haven't had to restore a backup yet (knock on wood)).
Thank you for the help in advance, I am so tired of being out of space when I haven't installed much except some essentials.
Yes, infact not sure what version of CWM you have but some actually let you save them to the external (like safestraps older version before they went TWRP on the RAZR lets you choose where to save it when you go to make it.)to begin with, aside from that just cut and paste it from the internal to the external sd, don't "zip" it tho because you won't be able to restore it if its zipped.
You don't even have to leave it on the device. You can take it and put it on the thumb drive and leave it in your desk drawer, and then if you end up needing that back up 2 months from now you can reload it onto the external SD card.
But if it's a CWM6 backup make sure you get the whole ClockworkMod folder, not just the backup.

Can you explain this? I copied the CWM folder from root/SD, is there more that needs to be moved?
Also as a secondary question, does it matter if I updated my CWM (using Rom Manager) from an older 6.x to a newer 6.x? Should I make a new backup?

It is currently 1.9G in size.
Does the newer CWM make a smaller/bigger backup? Or were you just curious for another reason?

No i was just curious to know.
So this means that cwm only backups operating system not apps installed on it???
That's why size is only 1.9gb

HELP!!!! No apps in titanium backup to restore.

Hi everyone, I recently installed cyanogen 10.1 for my note 10.1 N8010. It wouldn't install through CWM so I tried to install twrp through goo manager. It couldn't find a custom recover for my device so I flashed it through Odin. I was running android freedom at the time and had a nandroid of it. I wiped data in twrp, it said it would wipe data and cache only so I went ahead. After cyanogen flashed successfully I tried it out and downloaded titanium backup to restore my apps, they weren't there!!! Every restore option had a zero beside it, I checked the titanium backup folder to no avail. I decided to restore to android revolution as I had a backup. When I went to restore there were no files. No backup. I checked the clockworkmod folder and found the file but when I click properties it says - where size should be. Please help me as this is not my fault and I have a lot of important data in the backup. :crying:

Just check on your internal memory , there should be a folder named "0" , if you have this you will find all your titanium backup & CWM folder inside.

[Q] HELP needed: Nandroid Backup NOT restoring apps (TWRP 2.6.3.4)

Hi guys,
unfortunately I had to revert back to one of my backups I made as a custom kernel was causing problems. So, I tried to restore a Nandroid backup I made, but that didn't restore my apps and had to go through the standard Google setup (like a had a brand new phone).
I tried again wiping wipe cache, Dalvik cache etc. before restore, but still no restore even though I didn't encounter any problems restoring. I checked the nandroid directory and the files it backed up were these (total size approx. 2 GB)
boot.emmc.win
boot.emmc.win.md5
cache.ext4.win
cache.ext4.win.md5
data.ext4.win000
data.ext4.win000.md5
data.ext4.win001
data.ext4.win001.md5
recovery.emmc.win
recovery.emmc.win.md5
recovery.log
system.ext4.win
system.ext4.win.md5
I'm currently on 4.4.2 with stock kernel (3.4.0.gadb2201), Build no. KOT49H
Any suggestions what the problem could be?

Highlighted above in red would be the files that have your apps etc.
Run a restore again, and ONLY restore data, see if that helps out.
It should have restored everything unless you just restored boot or system.
btw, since you were just restoring because of a custom kernel, you didnt have to restore anything. all you had to do is flash the stock kernel(or any other kernel) witbout wiping anything, or just reflash your rom without wiping anything. you wouldnt have lost a thing nor have this headache. but, you chose to do it the wrong way.

Flashing the stock kernel did work, but after flashing the OTA and rooting caused problems. So I had no choice : (

Those are your data files. It looks like it backed it up fine.
From all accounts, it should be restoring your ROM 100% as you left it. I really don't get why it wouldn't be doing it with the apps.

Yeah, I even activated the MD5 verification in TWRP and I get no errors during the restoring process...I could try an older nandroid backup to see if that makes any difference.
I'm glad I don't just rely on nandroid backups (even though I never restored one).

Reflashed TWRP and tried again. Same issue. Although the older nandroid took forever and after 45 min. I just shut off the phone as it was going nowhere (status didn't move for that period).
All this makes no sense whatsoever...

Now it's making some sense a nandroid isn't necessarily the same depending on how it's created. For instance a nandroid created on cwm is not compatible with twrp and visa versa
As a plan B, you could try Titanium Backup which is capable of extracting apps & app data from nandroid backups. I think the feature requires TB Pro. Takes a while for it to unpack and parse everything, but it could be your best shot at getting a reasonably good restoration.

Thx for all the help guys! Truely appreciate the guidance.
What I didn't know is the nandroid backups I did were compressed. So I decompressed these, but after trying to restore these in TWRP no luck. I can however open and browse these in the nandroid backup manager or TI backup. I'm currently trying to restore the nandroid apps via nandroid backup manager. I'll let you guys know how that turns out.
I'm not sure what the difference between the TI app backup I have is and the current nandroid app+app data restore option would be. Isn't this essential the same thing the TI restore does with the apps?
And for the future what nandroid backup works reliably and would you recommend? I pretty paranoid about making backups, but I seem to have lost quite some confidence in nandroid backup, as it has failed me This has been a royal PITA....

If you didn't already have a Titanium backup, extracting from the nandroid is a good last resort to have.
The main difference between extracting with Titanium and a full nandroid restore - the latter is very sensitive to small differences in backup format, and can only be restored all at once. In general you shouldn't expect to successfully restore a nandroid in recovery if you created it using a different recovery or an app. If you create with TWRP, it should restore properly with TWRP.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
I always use Titanium Backup before I flash or backup anything. Then I restore my apps with no problems. It is a bit unusual for your apps not to be in your nandroid backup since it's basically like taking a picture of your phone and storing everything on it. I've never had this problem with TWRP. Hopefully you can figure it out...

how can I do a nandroid to my pc without saving to my phone?

My nexus 5 has so little space and I tried to delete large apps but in order to do a nandroid backup on the phone I need at least 8GB of space which I only have 3GB free. Is their a way to do a nandroid backup without the need to save the file to the phone but just on the pc?

Is there a way to create a full image of an android phone?

Is it possible to create a full image of android 10+?
It is very important to me that it really is a full image and not just some backup app form the playstore that saves your contacts and thats it.
I'd like to create an image of diffrent OSs and be able to freely flash them without lossing anything that was on my phone when the images where created. For example I want an unrooted version of Pixel experince with some apps on it, than I want an image of lineague OS with root access and maybe some more.

just search your devices name full backup youtube (on google search when you need help I'll be here within 24 hours
TWRP backups do seem to work fine, however they don't save internal storage... IIRC I had all my internal storage deleted often when I last played around with root and custom roms. Is this just not a thing anymore? Becuse for now I was able to keep my internal storage.

Internal storage can be included in your TWRP backup, you just have to choose the option to include it before doing the backup.

Anyways is internal storage wipe still a thing when you root/install custom roms or similar? Or just once when you unlock bootloader and install a custom recovery?

As far as I know, it has always been an option in TWRP as far back as I can remember, certainly since 2011, over 10 years now. Maybe it just wasn't included by whoever built your version of TWRP.
Wiping internal storage is a matter of choice when flashing ROMs, flashing ROMs does not touch data/data partition(userspace). The factory reset option in custom recovery also does not wipe userspace.
When unlocking bootloader, internal storage is wiped by default because it is automatically a part of the unlocking process and cannot be avoided. If bootloader is already unlocked, wiping internal is not required in order to flash a custom recovery.

Here are instructions for backing up internal storage via TWRP, just in case you are overlooking something in TWRP.
TWRP backup including internal storage
We all know, at least I hope so, that if you perform a backup in TWRP the internal storage data (photos, documents, etc.) is not included in the backup. https://twrp.me/faq/backupexclusions.html Of course, you can always manually backup the...
forum.xda-developers.com
YOU cant backup internal storage if the partition is encypted, if you already have root just use helium backup + enough space to where you'll backup, but you'll need to root again to recover that backup
Then backup the other stuff you want to via twrp
And Using MTK flash tools if device is supported there is a way just google backup "phone name" mtk flash tools
