Red screen on highest brightness - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Hey there, my phone's screen becomes red on the highest brightness setting if bright light comes near it: imgur. com/gGWYP2b
Is this some sort of software bug or is the phone broken or is it normal?

It's normal for some colors to appear different (as the panel is being overdriven), but it normally won't shift that drastically.
I'll grab my brother's phone later today and see if I can get a video of how mine looks

Ok, mine just goes really bright and the contrast isn't as good. No real color shift.

Screen has a blue tint normal? or defective?

Ever since I've fired up my SR the screen has a blue tint compared to my infuse. I thought both have the same screen? I was wanting to know if this is just the way the SR screen is or is mine defective? I'm getting ready to root next weekend so if it's defective I want to exchange before i root. I have searched for something on this but only found threads that talk about the lines in the screen not the blue tint. If I missed a thread can someone post the link.

Nobody has noticed this on their SR?

Just use screen tuner or whatever its called and lower the blue

Havent seen the blue tint but i also have the infuse and when i turn up the brightness to full my skyrocket is still no where near as bright as my infuse.

Might just be your phone.
Mine is normal and has not tint to it.
Thanks guys I'm going to swap it out this week

I see it, I've seen a lot and they all have it..

My Skyrocket also has a bluish tint, most noticeable when viewing from an angle. I didn't notice it at first, but it became very apparent when I compared it to my old Atrix 4G. I've seen videos on Youtube where they also mention the blue tint when compared to the previous Galaxy S2.

Read the whole thread. Basically you have 3 options:
Stock: Dark grays are color correct, medium grays are off and whites are WAY off.
Calibrate the whites: Whites are correct, medium grays aren't too bad, Dark grays are way red.
Calibrate the mid grays: Dark grays are a bit off, Medium grays are right on, whites are a touch blue, not too bad.

[Q] Screen pinkness (is mine normal?)

Hi all,
Picked up my One S on Monday and, so far, in almost every way it's my "perfect" phone - great feel, weight, crazy slick... just lovely.
However (and why is there ALWAYS an Achilles heel?), I'm really not happy about the screen. Ok, it's pentile, but so was my Desire (AMOLED one) and I never had a single problem with that. It's just this one seems so, well, pink! Not just in white balance, but there seems to be too much red everywhere - e.g. text on grey in Tweetdeck has crazy amounts of red fringing (especially noticeable on the yellow too), and the over saturated colours are almost too much (though not much more than my Desire, to be honest).
(Quick comparison of the screen temps attached)
I mean, seriously, that's not normal, right?
Am I the only person who seems to notice red / pink outlines on everything, am I the only person bothered by it, or am I just unlucky with this phone?
I went to Carphone to swap it, but they wouldn't because their manager was out and because I traded down from the X on Monday (flickering screen nightmare), so I had a play on their display model and I convinced myself the screen on that one was better! But, I'd love a second opinion!
Cheers!
Oh that's really pink! Will check mine when it finishes the first round charging.
I would say this isn't normal. On amoled Displays white areas appear a bit blueish or grey. But this red/pink looks unnormal
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
no, this doesn't look normal. But the thin red and green outlines are caused by the pentile-matrix, this is normal.
Just download Screen Adjuster and increase blue and green values a bit and your red screen will be gone
That's a v. useful app! It's definitely taken the edge off (green & blue at +5), but I'll still pursue a replacement as the contrast has taken a bit of a hit now.
(I'm such a perfectionist!)

Well, when I say "see" I meant on their own One S rather than on my screenshot.
I sometimes notice it being a bit pink when the brightness is set low, have you tired using auto brightness or putting it a bit higher?

Hmm. Other than at 100% brightness, it still seems pinkish. I finally get to persuade CPW to give me a replacement tomorrow...
That's looking odd definitely. Let us know if the replacement is better.
I haven't noticed any issue on mine

mine screen is definitely on the warm side of things (meaning the whites are yellow'ish). seeing how One X has a yellow tint issue (different screen manufacturers involved it seems) and you're playing a screen lottery i wonder if One S is the same. slightly warmer screens is not an issue per se but a strong yellow tint definitely effects the overall brightness and sharpness. i would love to compare different units in store to see if One S with cooler screens actually exist.
the pink tint is a straight up defect, however.

This probably won't help you. It won't hurt I guess, but this is something that can be worked out with a software solution. The SGS had something called Voodoo Colors, and I'm assuming that at some point that'll make it to the One S, as it's an AMOLED device as well. The colors changing on low brightness is one of the characteristics of an AMOLED screen.
As a poster above recommended, install that tool and set adjust the values for now. In due time, this'll be worked out. HTC just didnt do a great job with their color profile.

My screen doesn't brighten enough

My wife's nexus 5 (red) is only a week or two old but her phone is noticeably brighter. Whites are whiter but mine dims darker. If you put them next to each other hers looks incredibly bright at max and mine looks like it is about 90% brightness.
I know its not such a big deal but will this be a problem down the road ? Should I wait a while and see if it gets worse ? I hope its not just from use.
Forgot to mention mine is a white 16gb and hers is a red 16 GB. Mine is a month and half old.

You sure it isn't the color temperature or is this literally her is brighter. It sounds like you got a yellow screen while her isn't. RMA immediately.

Yea that's what I'm thinking. The yellowy screens appear dimmer in pictures

Color Mode? New Feature

So I have no idea how no one has noticed or mentioned about this feature in the new Moto X Pure Edition but it has a new feature under display settings called "Color Mode" where you can now choose between "normal" and "vibrant" screen colors.
Since they moved this year from AMOLED to TFT LCD this year I guess they wanted to give us an option to choose from
Here is the phone
Do you see a big difference between the two? Which do you prefer? My pure was delivered this morning but I'm away and won't get it till Monday ?

It comes on Vibrant as default. At first, when I changed it to normal, it looked a little flat, but after a while I could live with it. But I left it on vibrant anyways, coming from saturated amoled screens in the past, I'm pretty much used to it.

Normal looks a little flat and less attractive than the vibrant setting in my opinion
Vibrant uses more battery I believe.

He has the black/dark trim
So I will say after switching between modes for the past couple days, on and off. Vibrant mode is definitely the better color mode. With normal the colors seem more washed out and whiter, while vibrant makes the colors darker and less white, while at the same time making the whites whiter(if that makes sense)

Depends on what your definition of better is. The normal mode provides more accurate colors than vibrant mode, nearly matching my 2015 MacBook Pro. Most people are just used to oversaturated screens, especially those coming from AMOLED screens, so they will probably prefer the vibrant mode. I'm just glad Motorola gave us the option because everyone has their own preference between accurate and sexy and this way we can all be happy.
This is true, I will agree with you there
I prefer more accurate color reproduction within the limits of the display technology. My eyes hurt when dealing with high contrast screens. But superficially, "vibrant" will seem better, just like how people will gravitate towards the TVs in a store with the higher contrast and brighter colors even if it's just a setting. Having had a couple TVs professionally calibrated in the past, I'm not into artificially adding more color than exists normally. Vibrant probably crushes blacks too.
Saturated just has more punch and seems more contrasty. I refer color accuracy. The blacks are probably blacker on normal mode, just the whites don't get as bright so the blacks lose their depth. Speaking from experience in general, and not having moto x in hand experience.

I was surprised to see it at first and was tempted to exchange. But it doesn't bother me tbh. Has to be in very particular conditions and most the time I don't notice.
But I'm glad it's not a screen issue ?
