Managed to get the latest TWRP on my ATT A9. But when I boot into TWRP, it asks for a password. Every password I've put in, it denies. And if I cancel, it puts me into TWRP but it shows that I have 0 data on my phone. Can anyone help me understand what's going on? Thanks!
Hi
Before installing the supersu.zip, make check and Wipe only Data (In Advanced Wipe).

Yes, that's all before installing the supersu.zip, delete only Data on the part of advanced wipe

Hello,
I am flashing a custom rom and using TWRP for the first time. When restoring, there are 3 checkboxes (system, data, and boot)
What do the boot and system options mean?
Kernel aka boot.img
Keep it checked. Otherwise, you may have an incompatible kernel for your ROM and will get bootloops.

Thanks. So when i install a new rom, i only need to check boot and data?
Because at first, i checked all 3 and i ended up where i started (without the new rom installed).

The restore and backup options have nothing to do with flashing a new rom. When flashing a new rom wipe, system, data cache, and dalvik. Then flash the rom

Also make sure to backup your EFS folder in TWRP and store it on your PC. Better safe then sorry
Not sure what the EFS folder is, but thanks. So i ran into another problem. I lost my root access (not sure how). So i would have to reroot now and i bet that EFS folder is gone. I still have my Nandroid backup from before.
Thanks

You can root with TWRP itself or flash superSU.zip 1.94 (http://download.chainfire.eu/396/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.94.zip) in recovery. Your EFS folder isn`t gone.

Whenever I do a backup or a restore, I check data, system, and boot.
When installing a new ROM, Wipe System, Data, Cache, and Dalvik. Then flash.
Search the forum for nexus 5 efs backup. Its always a good idea.

So i downloaded the superSU.zip 1.94 file and attempted to flash in TWRP in recovery. The menu options are not the same since i've lost root access. It takes me to the advanced menu with ADB Sideload, Terminal Command, etc. So how do i flash superSU from here? Help please!

Hi,
i searched many threads here on xda to find a solution, but nothing works. I tried different recovery versions of twrp, cwm(philz) and the official cyanogenmod version.
I tried to flash it with sideload.
I think the problem is only with Lollipop ROM, cm-bacon-XNPH38R.zip he was able to flash.
I added a screenshot where the error happens.
I hope you guys can help me, please tell me if you need any more information?
And sorry for my bad english. ^^
Thanks in advance!

It looks like you're not wiping fully (system, data, cache, dalvik cache) before flashing.
Are you using multirom? That error is common if the updater-script file isn't multirom compatible

You definitely wiped system and data? Did you check the md5 of the ROM zip after downloading it?

I only wiped dalvik, system and cache. You really think wipe data makes a difference?
The MD5 is correct.
This is so annoying... :/

Why did you say you'd done a full wipe when you hadn't? It's incorrect information like that that makes troubleshooting difficult. [emoji52]
Yes, wiping data makes a huge difference. Of course it does, you're leaving incompatible data behind, even if the flash succeeded you'd have bugs galore. You're supposed to do a full wipe (system, data, cache, dalvik cache) when you flash a new ROM.

Flashing is failing complete and i thought wiping data makes no difference in the flash progress. When the flash progress finishes i wanted to do a full wipe of data. If i wipe data, does it delete the content on the simulated sdcard(internal storage) too or only the app data?

No it doesn't touch your personal data, only app data and settings. Still doesn't answer why you said you'd wiped data when you hadn't.

I'm gonna go with @timmaaa on this one too with the new info you added. The hint to me is right in the screenshot. It can't flash over incompatible data.
You're not trying to flash f2fs ROM on ext4 are you? Or vice versa? What ROM are you trying to flash?

I'm in a similar boat, I've tried a full complete wipe via Advance Wipe > Dalvik Cache, System, Data, Cache but same deal when attempting to install the zip file.

Hi guys. I was having this problem. I was at TWRP v2.8.0. My device was rooted and I used the goomanager app to update my twrp and after install the latest version(2.8.5) I solve my problem and now I have the CM12S installed.

Either flash the latest TWRP zip file I believe its upto 2.8.6.0, or simply download the TWRP manager app from the play store and install it that way. Once installed just boot into Recovery and flash CM12s
Use clockwork work mod unofficial v6.0.4.8. Working.or else use liquid smooth nightly

Hey buddy Factory Reset is not necessary, but it is recommended. If you do it then the phone will be much faster (won't experience lag). Also wipe Cache so that you boot into a fresh ROM and avoid any issues.
Don't forget to make a backup first!

No problem. Wiping cache just after OTA supposedly helps the new software that has been installed.
I've never done it in any of my phones, not with the moto g. I also haven't faced any lag and I never factory reset or wiped my cache after OTA. But your results may vary. Better safe than sorry my friend. Good luck!

Dude just boot to twrp -> Wipe -> format Phone -> type yes -> DONE! Now reboot twrp again and flash magisk. Ano it should boot fine. It's because of Samsung's DM-Verity and force encrypt.
PS: Formatting phone will delete all ur data on the phone including files on internal storage like pictures, downloads, etc. So keep a backup.
I just want to do a factory reset and I have TWRP installed with magisk. When I wipe data it just reboots to TWRP. Do I also need to reflash magisk? Or what am I doing wrong?
