I have a 701 with stock ROM, unrooted and unmodified. I am using Contact+ as default phone and sms app.
Contacts+ is set stable as default phone app, but the phone resets to use it's standard sms app once in a while, and always after reboot
Is there anything that can be done to set default sms app permanently?
I found the solution
I installed separatelly the app "Messages plus" which is basically the same app, then set this one to default. Made it protected and now the problem is gone

check your signal strength make sure its not going in and out
power off your phone and leave it off for about 30 seconds
turn it back on and test sending a sms to yourself with the area code still
if no luck then continue on to
if the app is giving your the force close you could go into the menu/settings/applications/manage applications and find both or all of your downloaded messaging apps and the stock message app and clear data and force stop all of them. Hit the home key after and then try sending to yourself again.
if this does not work then i would suggest you resetting your phone and starting over.... or make sure that no blocking features have been added to your account if you are on one with someone other than just yo.
So I flashed Cyanogen Mod and I hated it. Unfortunately I forgot to do a backup of my stock rooted rom. So i flashed a clean install of the latest stock rooted rom. Now gmail notifications are driving me nuts. I remember that you were able to disable them before by simply going into settings within the Gmail app. Now this option is gone. I feel like such a noob.
I might as well through this question out as well. How on earth can I set handcent as my default texting app? Again, before flashing the new rom, this was also in the settings menu for the app but now I can't seem to find it and whenever I get a text I get two notifications. One from the stock texting app and another from handcent.
With hancent installed you have to disable notifications in the stock messaging app.

Symptoms:
Receive a MMS picture message and the picture does not show (though it initially downloads the image). Under the stock messaging app, there is nothing. Under the Handscent app, it says "unable to display content" when there is no text. If there is text it shows the text conversation. I can however, under Handscent go into the menu/more/save mms and see the image there. I can send MMS picture messages just fine.
Setup:
CM9 Nightlies
I have tried wiping and resetting all the app cache, phone cache, etc. I have played around with the APN settings. Yes, for those that yell about searching the forums; I have been working on this for several days and nothing in the lists have resolved my problem.
Any thoughts on this issue?
Do you have the stock messaging app frozen or disabled? I had a similar issue and resolved it by unfreezing/"thawing" in TB and enabling, then just turning off notifications in the stock app settings so it doesn't duplicate the notification since you're using a different SMS/MMS app.

Thanks! I froze then defrosted the default app and now it works. I have spent way too many hours trying more complicated solutions. Thanks again!
Does this apply if i'm using only the stock app too?

It should. My understanding is that by freeze/defrost, you reset the application locks or something to that effect. It doesn't hurt to try it and see how it works.
Hey all....have a weird issue here. I use GoSms as my messaging app. I have added it as a shortcut to the lock screen. When I have a new text come in and I get into the app from my lock screen, the keyboard doesn't want to work. It recognizes I'm typing (buttons press, popups show up) but nothing shows up in the entry field. I need to completely back out of the conversation and get back in again. Then it works fine. It does this regardless of what keyboard I use. The stock messaging app works fine and I don't have this issue. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Try wiping the cache and data for GoSMS
I use Textra opposed to the stock system messaging app. Every time I turn the phone off then back on, it defaults back to the system messaging app. Pain in the a**.
I can't seem to find it to freeze it (using chefs app freezer)
