bad RAM management - Ascend Mate 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all!
My Mate 7 (MT7-L09) has tremendous difficulties with multitasking. It is unable to keep more than 2 apps running, one in the foreground and one in the background. Out of the 2gb RAM available, about 500 to 750 MB are free for app use. But another problem is that those 500-750 MB's are never used and every app that I switch to from the multitasking view has to reload time and time again. Sometimes, my phone is even unable to run a music (streaming) app in the background or when the screen is off.
Does anyone else have this problem and/or know how to improve the situation?
I have a clean install of B522 installed with no root and minimal apps. "Performance" mode is always enabled and I do not have any malicious apps draining my RAM. Using the stock launcher with little costumization.
Thanks in advance!

Greenify--Take control of your background processes

Don't know how many of you saw this, but I installed it last night, and it's awesome.
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/greenify-keeps-your-android-running-smoothly/
Basically, it allows you to stop apps from running in the background without disabling them. You can still run them like normal, but they don't eat up RAM when you're not. It does stop background functions, but many of the apps I see running like this don't do anything for me in the background anyway. YOU determine what runs in the background instead of your apps.
It doesn't work with system apps, these need to be moved to phone storage before Greenify can take control of them.
I've noticed a definite improvement in available memory and multitasking.

You will spend more battery in killing those apps. ram is supposed to be filled up, the only answer to run more apps is to get more ram , not kill running apps.
Did you read the post? It's not a traditional app killer. It prevents them from running in the background at all.
Installed this a few hours ago. Definitely smoother phone, and moderately better multitasking. Been trying to find a way to get rid of pesky Facebook which uses like 25 mb of RAM just to send you push notifications and sync your calendar.
You may need to convert Facebook to a user app first. It can't do anything to system apps. I did it with mine and it's now behaving.

[Q] Ram problem

Hiii
I'm having problem with "deasapearing ram" Every 2-3 days i've to restart phone completly becouse when i check in working apps settings i've like 40-80 free ram. in use is about 780-820 mb. it does not add up to 1gb anyway. So when i have so little ram to use apps are force to close, mx player, some ****ty family guy app even chrome is closing down. apps like app killer are not helping tehy free like about 10-60 mb. anyone noticed something like me, any advice?
I think it is the phone, I have the same problem :/

i did it already through pc companion suite. no help at all.
Maybe root and uninstall bloatware can help you with this situation
this problem probaly because of too many background apps
and one more thing .. linux based OS , ram always been used everytime
you can disable some apps like google maps or integrated apps that u dont use
I have the similar problem with my RAM. As 1st, RAM is always at 70% usage.
How can i disable some applications permanently so they do not run by themselves? I dont want to unninstal them, just disable them, is it possible and if it is can u please tell me how to do it in few short steps.
Second thing, beside other apps i have installed Facebook, WhatsApp and CleanMaster app. Every time i go Settings -> Aplications -> Running Aplications, there are these 3 apps always running. I dont know whats causing them to be opened at all times. I think if i open Facebook (for example) even once, it stays up and running in background even if i remove it from that Dock Menu Tab by sliding it a side.
Is there anything i can do to make this stop, and save some of my RAM free?
Thanks in advance
4.3 is the worst from all versions in terms of memory handling. On top of that it comes very heavy on memory foot-print right after booting up.
After booting up your phone has about 300 - 350 Mb left to work with. Open your Navigation app and your browser, and the memory of your phone is "done". The happy apps reshuffling starts, causing screen lag and app start-up delay.
When a phone app with1 mB in size was considered big, and 5 mB of RAM consumption enormous, than shuffling things around was no prob. Now shuffle a 240 mB Navi app out of the memory, and replace it with that 70 mB home launcher when you are done. Takes the same time and is the same, right? And users have no clue how memory is used, right? And if so many complain about memory handling? But still, Many will tell us "unused RAM is wasted RAM".
What can you do?
- Root your pone and remove all apps you don't need, diligently and consequently
- Greenify user apps, in particular those which you do not need always.
- Rethink if you need to be on Viber, Whatsapp and Skype constanly. If not, greenify.
- Access Facebook from a browser, ditto for other functions and apps where a website is availabe and mostly does the same
- When installing a new app always go for the smaller one that just does what you need to do. Not the one with all the function that you could need, and not the one with more eye candy.
certain apps on android are a no-no. For example, facebook (from what I've heard) and skype use lots of resources and slow down the phone. You should disable or uninstall any app that isn't of use to you. To check the RAM usage of apps and disable them, go to settings -> apps, running will show you current apps, and if you go in all apps you can scroll through them and disable unneeded apps.

Search for an app that lets you manage startup apps on boot. Another way is Greenify, as it unloads apps from memory.
BTW. Cleanmaster is redundant in my eyes.
Thank you very much, this helped a lot.
i've disabled around 15 apps, some sony crap and stuff what i know what it is and i don't use. still the same.

Closing recent apps?

Hi.
Probably a dumb question especially as I should know this after doing a IT course but is closing apps from the recent apps list a badish thing?
WIth windows I'm used to closing apps to free up RAM for other programs but I've recently found out that android doesn't work like this and it's best to keep the apps in the recents list for faster loading etc. While this makes sense and I have obviously noticed that apps will load faster if they're in the recent apps list but does this not have an effect on cpu or battery life?
Just need some clarification as how how android manages it's RAM compared to windows and whether it has a negative effect on performance if you leave apps in the recents list.
Closing recent apps is no problem at all. If you openend an app (e.g. facebook) and you don't want to use it anymore, you can close it easily to free up your ram. Otherwise they keep in your ram. Of course your recent apps load faster this way, if they aren't to many. The more apps run in background, the more runs your phone slower. In that case, Android closes "big" apps automaticly.
When you're using several apps at the same time, you can switch easily through these recent apps.
If you don't use your phone at the moment, you can just close them.
I think you mean something like task killer apps. These aren't really quite good because Android handles this already very well.

hi.
there are five catagories in which i devide the android device into (baaed on ram and battery)
1-- low end device (less than 756 mb ram)
generally have a 1800 mah battery or less with a max of 1.2 ghz dual core processor. in these devices using 3g with two apps in background drains your battery like hell.
recommoded to kill apps in background.
2-- low average end device (756 mb of ram)
generally have a 2300 mah battery with 1.4 ghz quad core processor. in these devices using 3g with two apps in backgtound will give a 6 to 8 hours battery backup. but if apps goes more than two it starts heating and battery brains a lil faster. but to play a hardcore game you still have to close 3g and all apps forcefulley.
3-- mid end devices (1 or 1.5 gb of ram)
generally have a 3000 mah battery with 1.4 to 1.5 ghz quad core processor. in these devices using 3g with two apps in background will give 10 hours of battery backup. open max of 5 apps in backgroung will not effect performance and battery backup much. to play high end games again have to close all apps.
4-- mid high end devices (2 gb of ram)
generally with 4000 mah battery with 2 ghz octa core processor. in these devices using 3g with two apps in background will give a 10 to 12 hours of battery backup. open as many apps in background will not effect battery life and performance much. to play games not more than two apps should run in backgtound.
5-- high end devices (2.5 to 3 gb of ram)
generally with a 5000 to 6000 mah battery with 2.5 ghz octa core processor. in these devices apps in background do not effect battery life or performance. on 3g gives a 1 to 1.5 days battery backup. play games with no lag.
if this helped hit thanks.
exceptions are n all over the world. exception is law of nature.

Greenify.. Look it up
He is not looking for amy app.
He just wants to understand what to do to get more perfrmance or more free ram on any devices.
Just want to understand.

See android too works with processes and everything, you have foreground apps and background apps and what not..
To speed up, check which app has a service which stays alive all the time, then you travel to Settings>>Apps>>Running
Here see the Ram usage stop processes that you feel u dont need at that time. And then enjot
Thank me if i helped ... ?
Good method

680mb ram on android 5.1 enough?

Well im looking at getting a cheap tablet to run music app + browsing at the same time without issue 2-4 tab in browser. Do you think the cheap low end tablet with 1gb ram would run good?
My nexus 5 use like 800-1000mb idle but one samsung tablet i seen the other days was idling at like 400mb.
Well it will be enough if you are running music and browser at the same time but there could be other background apps running which will actually use a lot of RAM without your knowlede. You should stop the unneccessary apps running by
Settings-->Apps-->Running apps. Stop the apps you don't want to be running .But don't stop system apps like launcher.

Will kill task for sure if needed.

RAM MANAGEMENT / High system usage

Is it normal, that system is using so much ram? After restart it shows around 1.5gb ram + little build up app cache. After 2-3 hours it goes up to 5gb of system usage.
Most of system apps preinstalled are disabled or forced to stop. Not using greenify, amplify or xposed. No substratum, kernel tweaks etc.

The real question here is - Is this impacting the performance in any manner? Is there visible lag when using the phone extensively? If yes, then it's a problem. If no, then I wouldn't be concerned because Android has always been notorious with RAM management. Try opening and using a lot of apps and then minimize, then try opening them again and see if they retain the states you last left them in.

I have Pixel 2XL as well and most of the time I have ~2-2,5 GB of RAM usage with apps preloaded. It's plenty fluid and responsive, maybe just a tiny bit slower (if any) than OP6.

Pixel is Google's baby. It'll always be the most optimized Android device. I wouldn't compare those too. But then again if the performance lag is visible then it's a problem, else not.
It's suppose to use up the RAM. Unused RAM is wasted RAM.
I am experiencing the same thing, I went to developer mode and set the background service to none, and installed greenify to force hibernate the services.
I was wondering the same thing, why is it going up to 5 gb ? And to answer someone's question from above, no the device does not slow down ( at least I haven't experienced slow downs ) but I always clean recent apps and I'm never opening more than 4 Max 5 apps
Why wasting time about worrying why system apps run in the background using the ram which is supposed to be used just for this manner. I don't get it. The system runs perfect on the 6 ...
Start using your using device, not developing any problems where none are existing.
Enjoy your devices.
