Force Auto Rotate on Android 6.0 / CM13 - Android General

Hey guys,
Been running Cyanogenmod 13 on my Galaxy Note 2 which has been brilliant, but I have run into an interesting issue. Since I use this Note 2 in the car, it lives in a cradle which sits the phone horizontally. Unfortunately there are some apps which will not rotate to landscape, which obviously gives an awkward experience when driving.
I have Xposed installed on my device, and I have tried Xposed Additions and GravityBox and neither of these apps will allow me to force auto rotation, although they have the option to do so. This did work previously in Android 5.1.1. Xposed is working fine though, so that's not the problem.
If anyone has any ideas on how to achieve what I'm after, please let me know.
Update: Just as I thought I'd post this thread,I just found an app that works perfectly. It's also free. Called Rotation Control, link here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.crape.rotationcontrol&hl=en
Consider it solved I suppose, I'll leave this thread up for anyone else who runs into this issue.

[Q] [KatKiss] screen wont rotate

just flashed latest KatKiss rom, its very fast, but I cannot seem to get thescreen to rotate. I have auto-rotation turned on, tried on and off, but no luck. Any ideas?
Welcome to the forum!
are you docked? If so, it wont rotate. You must be undocked and it should work just fine. If not, perhaps your accelerometer is broken. Use CPU-Z from the Play Store to look at the feedback from your accelerometers.
Sorry I was away for a while... No not docked...
I ended up installing an App from the store... Acreen Rotation Control and setting it to Auto and now everything works fine. Not sure why I had to do that, but it's working and that is good enough for me.
Thanks.

I'm having the same issue. I "solved" as you did, but it kind you sucks in my opinion. I'm using 4.3 build 020.
I'd suggest uninstalling the app and then getting a logcat (see the how to report link in the KatKiss thread) and send that to Tim to see what is preventing rotation.
Only 2 users out of probably 5k+ users have reported this issue.
for me some apps are just "sideways apps". what can you do? I just use rotation locker for that portrait mode. not sure what else to do. :sly:
Yeah, but mine has been rock solid since flashing and using the Screen Rotation Control app.
mmm...

Got similar behaviour.
Using KatKiss 4.4.2 #23 -- it can rotate the screen, but when I try to lock it in the desired position (using the "quick tile") the tile briefly flashes and the screen gets on landscape mode again.
I see it's not related to the tile, since the same happens if I get to the rotation settings on Android's "Configurations". Tried using a program from Google Play to set it (sorry, can't remember its name) and it didn't work either.
Hoping @timduru may take a look at this...

Thanks, but that's exactly the one I tried -- didn't work unfortunately.
Well, just tried latest version, KK 4.4.2_r2 #024, still no luck.
So here are the three asked logfiles.
Steps to reproduce the problem:
Autorotation is enabled, and I'm using the tablet in landscape mode. Turned it right (ie, counter-clockwise), worked as it should (screen rotated).
Then I opened the "tiles menu" (the one in the right upper corner, below the clock) and pressed the rotation tile.
It briefly changes to the "locked” icon, but turns again to the "normal" one and puts the tablet again in landscape mode!
Interesting enough, the menu remains opened but the icon is seen as the "locked" one.
By the way -- tested undocked.
Many thanks @timduru -- apart that it's an outstanding ROM. Hope to hear you soon. :good:
Update: auto-rotation working as expected on KatKiss 4.4.2 version #026, no additional software needed -- many thanks @timduru!
Hi,
I recently updated my TF101 to KatKiss 6.0.18. Since then, have the same problem with screen not rotating. Tried installing several applications that should rotate, but this does not solve the problem.
Tried also the "dropping the tablet" trick recommended by some on Google, but this also without any success. With the Check Sensor app, values remain to 0. Everything was fine beforehand with KK 4.4.
Any hint ?
Thanks

[Completed] Screen rotate off

Hy Guys!
I have a problem with my vodafone smart 2 phone. My device is running CM7-B2. The gyrosensor just stops working at random time and doesn't work again until I install the original ROM (and then I install CyanogenMod again). After that my phone works perfectly sometimes for month but now for some hours and without any sign the screen doesn't rotate again. Nothing else breaks only the gyrosensor.
Do you have any idea what may be the problem?
Thank for your help!!
If the sensor works fine on Stock firmware then the CM Kernel is lacking correct drivers. You may want to contact the developer of the Rom or post in that thread. You could also try another Rom such a Albert96 Rom
You can Try Protractor or Bubble Level app to calibrate the Sensor. If either app has a limited success, you may have a hardware issue.
As my colleague suggested, you may also try *#0*# on your dialer and then use the Sensor test to see if everything is operating correctly.

Compass issues after upgrading to Lollipop

Hey guys,
New smartphone user here. I've had Nexus 5 for a few months now.
Lollipop is really well made and the new visuals are great. Everything seems to be working well so far, except for my compass. It does not work either in my Compass app or in Google Maps. I've seen a few threads where people lost some of their sensors, so I downloaded Sensor Box to see what it would find.
The magnetic sensor works properly, but there isn't a "compass" sensor in it. Are they different or is the compass position determined using the magnetic sensor? The GPS Essentials compass does work, but it feels very slow and it's all over the place.
Additionally, when I start my Compass app, it does not activate Location like GPS Essentials would, although, it fetches my current address properly on top of the compass itself. (see attachment)
Could it be just that the compass works in a different way in Lollipop and apps have to be updated for it? I'm completely lost. Any help would be appreciated, guys.
Cheers,
I am experiencing the same issue.
I'm also having this issue, only app I did get it to work with was Compass 360. But I really only would need it for Google Maps, so this is still very annoying.
Did anyone come up with a solution, or at least an explanation yet?
Or does anyone know where to file a bug report about such an issue?
Are you sure the APIs just didn't change with Lollipop? If one app works and not another, it may not be a Lollipop bug.
Kompass is dead on for me, no issues whatsoever. Try moving the phone in a horizontal figure 8 to calibrate the kompass and watch for electrical/magnetic interferences.

[Completed] Auto rotation and gestures won't work

I am completely baffled by this issue. The accelerometer seems to be working fine. CPUZ shows that all axis work properly. Additionally, I tried playing SpeedX 3D and it is also working fine. However, when I rotate the screen or use a gesture to start up the camera app, nothing happens. Any suggestions?
For what is worth I have Moto X Play running rooted Marshmallow with squid's kernel.
Thanks in advance!

LG g3 cat.6 accelerometer and gyro not working

Hi
My phone was working perfectly until yesterday, I downloaded some apps and then Uninstall them but then I started noticing the rotation wasn't working then I put on auto still not working. Then installed some sensors test and cpu z but all showing not supported or don't even have accelerometer and gyro, not working or stuck is another thing but not competible or don't even have made me think it's a soft problem, that's why did full reset but same results. Put it on safe mode same results. Also when I open maps now only show round dot. So Idk it's software or hardware that's why came to ask you guys
Don't have an answer to the problem. Just letting you know you posted in the wrong forum (see pinned post). You might get more eyes on your issue in the Q&A/Help section.
