Hi all,
I'm running the Mate 7 unrooted and with the latest marshmallow update. And I'm trying to change the standard message app to contacts+. After doing so, everything seems fine, but my phone keeps changing back to the stock message-app, without any notice. I have even disabled all my stock app's permissions.
I have no idea why or how this happens. Does anyone else have this problem? And did you manage to fix it?
Have you set Contacts+ as default messaging app in the app management settings?

Yep, I did that, and when I open contacts+ it often lets me know that the standard message app is now set as default, and if I want to change that. And then I do that as well.

Does anyone know of any fix for this? If Windows users had to set their default browser every time Microsoft put out an update to Internet Explorer, they'd have killed Bill Gates by now. Once a default is set I never again want to be asked what to use no matter if I updated the app in question, the other apps I could have chosen but obviously didn't for a reason, or I install or update some app that suddenly gains that capability.
It can't be that hard to set default flags and to prevent any apps from clearing them by merely being installed or updated.
Has anyone else had this gripe? I can't believe I'm alone. Is there any workarounds? PDroid? Some app? Anything?
No apps that I know of that will keep the default. they hold their setting until the app updates. I just click the button to make it a default again. You can turn off auto update if you have that turned on and then you will not have a problem.

But it is a problem. U very often need the latest versions of things to work properly like Skype which is a great example cuz updating that screws up the default calling, messaging, and I think video playback too. Then there are stupid ones like bit tornado which wants to be the default for every download link. It's just ridiculous! Imagine having to turn off Windows Update or anti-virus updates just so u don't have to re-specify all your damned defaults! It's ludicrous!
Well I would rather just click it then having to endure the alternative of the froyo days or even worse the iPhone.

Having an annoyance with one app that auto toggle WiFi off and on, Everytime it wants to do its think I seem to get some annoying Huawei pop up asking if I should allow with no option to remember the choice. Granted full permissions for the app under settings-permissions but it continues. Honestly, don't need Huawei's app bothering me about permissions, Android let's me control that just fine. Anyone know how to disable this?

Hi,
I think you should disable wifi+ to remove the auto-toggle (settings->WiFi->Wi-Fi+->off)
is there a way to disable default messaging app?
in my AL00 I used Textra as my default messaging app but at random times the system itself makes the base messaging app default causing me to manually have to go into settings an select textra as my default sms app every time this happens.
Anyone experiencing same behavior?
I don't think you can at least without root. I just got my Mate 9 a couple days ago and I've been using Google's Android Messenger for that time period and it hasn't changed back to the stock app.

Under Settings > Apps > Settings
Look at the default app settings and change the Messaging setting.

But OP, to somewhat answer your question, no. I installed Textra when I first got my phone back in January, and it's never reset the default back to the stock app.

Hi there
I have a question for the international users of the Magic 2. I have not yet owned a Honor device but had several Huawei Mate devices in the past. The ones which I had from China always had the issue with delayed/not syncing notifications, for example Whatsapp etc. It only got better with the international firmware on it.
Does the Magic 2 also have this issue, seeing it only comes with Chinese Firmware?
Thanks very much!
I have the HM2 and I haven't experienced any issues with notifications, using Whatsapp, Telegram or whatever.

I have had a different experience unfortunately. Some apps only seem to sync and receive new notifications when I open them.
I've tried adding the problematic apps to "unrestricted data access" (despite it saying this should not effect notifications) to no avail.
Hope someone else has a solution!

That's exactly what I was afraid of, I also know this from my previous Huawei Mates.. well I have placed the order now already for it.. so I guess I will have to see.
Go to settings->apps->apps->WhatsApp(for example)->power usage details->app launch.
Change to manual and enable all. I think you can then switch it back to automatic.

These problems usually originate with power consumption settings and launch settings, if you let it run in the background and launch itself, it should work perfectly.
In any way I use Whatsapp regularly and it seems working fine with the default settings I had when installed.

And this
Most people that are having issues with notifications are totally unaware of the the aggressive battery saver on Huawei devices. You need to manually allow apps to run in the background and not be killed by the battery saver. Unfortunately the settings are but hidden and some time there are more than one option to were to do so.

This works, thanks for the replies! :good:
Hello good folks, I noticed that 3rd party apps like Chomp SMS are not able to see either of the SIM cards to send out messages. Is there anything I need to do as i don't like the default Mi SMS app. Thanks for your anticipated suggestions/help.
I'm using google Messages. No problem (even chat features working)
(Its so good that I delete it my stock one)

Did you unlock bootloader to do it
To do what ? Delete app ? No I debloat it via adb
Try changing the permissions for the app, often it's set to Return blank messages or deny, set to always allow. That worked for me with the Google Messages app.

Thanks for responding. I set all the permissions and it still doesn't work.
Is the app set as the default app for messaging?
Try toggling the "Get device info" permission under the messaging app.
I had forgotten how annoying the CN version is. I use the Google Clock app for the alarm. It went off this morning but with no permission to appear on my lock screen, so couldn't turn it off. Chances are it'll reset in a few days and happen again.

I did and it still wouldn't send any texts nor see my existing texts in the oem sms app.
My partner is using xiaomi 12s ultra and yeah, we had issue with Google messages, but after reviewing the permissions, setting the app as default and activating "chat features"... Now it works as a charm.
Next: Gmail doesn't send push notifications... So reviewing the permissions for the app again, setting as default... Bla Bla Bla...
Apparently we have to do this for most of the apps one by one.
It's not a deal breaker thou.
I love this phone
