[ROM][Android][Stock] Alcatel One Touch Fierce XL 5054 - Miscellaneous Android Development

Instead of being split in different posts in a really large and broad topic about this phone, I decided to create a new topic to share the stock roms I recently uploaded.
They have been untouched: they all are large exe files (~1 gb) which unpack and automatically launch the flashing software.
I have no more information about these files: everything written here is all I have. They come from a trusted source.
In the previous topic, at least 2 persons reported successes unbricking their phone with these files.
If these files save your phone, don't forget to thank this post. You can also donate using this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/donatetome.php?u=269273

Brilliant!!
Great to see another thread created. I was thinking of asking someone to do this and make this one the dev section and link to the other thread for general discussion.
EDIT: Are you going to explain certain things like "With SML"? It could help some .

Excellent, hooray

I would love to tell you Unfortunately, it's an information I don't have
I was thinking about SiMLock but I don't think a ROM can alter the SIM lock status of a phone. It may be related to SIM lock anyway...
I was also thinking of Qualcomm Snapdragon Math Libraries...
I will probably upload a Windows Mobile 10 FFU file soon.

SML might be a reference to Standard ML, a functional programming language that excels at pattern matching.

You can do that yourself using the "emmcdl.exe" program and the corresponding Firehose flasher (for your phone, it should be "prog_emmc_firehose_8909_lite.mbn"). You also need ROM files: rawprogram0.xml, patch0.xml and all the needed MBN files.

Maybe related to this - I have activated the "Developer Mode" on mine (multiple tapping on "About Phone") and I saw an option that is new to me: "Enable OEM unlock - Allow the boot loader to be unlocked". It was OFF by default, I turned it on.
Also on rooted phones the "System Updates" won't work anymore: "It was detected that your device has ROOT access. Upgrade is disabled". Hmmm... "Hide my Root"?

Tried and it stops at 2% and after a while I get this prompt?
COM0->PC[2] Search Disk over time! Please check the handset or driver! (Error code = 40011)
How do I know I have the correct driver for this tool to work? Have in mind that I have messed around with qualcomm drivers on this win8 laptop...
Any chance for some details/instructions so we all get there smoothly
Thanks!

We've been through this basics early in the original thread and nooo, to enable OEM unlock does NOT help us to unlock the bootloader
And if you have faith in MetroPCS regarding a System Update, then you just unroot in the Kingroot app...

The drivers are part of the program. In the "Option" menu, there is an "Install & Uninstall Driver" option.
If you launch the program and if you don't close it, the drivers files are also present in a "usb_driver" subfolder of the folder where the program extracted itself (look at your "C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming" folder).
You may want to use the "Device Manager" to uninstall all the drivers related to Qualcomm. You can also view hidden devices by checking "show hidden devices" under the "View" menu.
In the other thread, few people reported successes so they maybe able to tell you how they did that.

Wish it was a universal standard to include an "uninstall all conflicting drivers" when installing a new driver. Been there so many times, puuh
Here we go again
Thanks for quick response

Ok, I'm now 99.99% sure the "SML" mention refers to SIM lock. The "file" mention in the folder name is also related to the unlock/lock phone: it actually refers to the MBN file of the security partition. Unfortunately, I don't know what "change"/"unchange" mean.
Indeed, on this phone, there is a small security partition (~700kb) which contains the SIM lock status. Unlock software like SigmaKey use this partition to unlock the phone.
Can you check the before/after status of the SIM lock after you flash one of these ROMs?

What Mode Do You Put Your Phone In For This To Work?

Here we go, it worked at last
I used USB-Deview to see everything that happened when connecting my phone to the laptop. A good software to delete unwanted drivers. I had to restart my laptop AND my phone. Restart my phone might be the wrong words though, but when you have the Alcatel Upgrade software open and connect the phone and start the process, the phone switch from turned off (and charging) to qualcomm hs-usb qdloader 9008 mode (which you already mentioned) and to get out of this mode on the softbricked phone, you have to get into the built in recovery and from there, turn off the phone for a fresh start again. I had to do this a couple of times before it worked.
And now I'm not afraid to experiment again, wiiipppiiihoooaaah
Thanks a lot TristanLeBoss

If you refer to flashing the system, you leave the phone turned off, and if your computer is free from conflicting USB drivers, it will work (sooner or later)

I am so glad this phone is out of its shell, thank you guys.
Just a quick question. Will the flash tool put the phone in stock?
I haven't looked on this forum for weeks. Because I thought this phone was a goner but thank you TristanLeBoss ???

So it looks like the T-Mobile variant is same specs. Can you help me convert my 5054N to Win10? I can offer a $10 donate, thanks!

<br>
I was able to use the stock unlock app on the phone to perform a sim unlock. I'm now using the Metro phone on my Tmobile plan.
was looking online for TWRP or CWM for this device and found the previous thread.
Let me know if you need any help, I'm down for testing.
I got this device for free from a friend, because his dad couldn't remember his gmail account, and did a factory reset.
He got stuck on the google FRP setup wizard.
I was able to use the keyboard swipe gesture (from swipe key, to the "s" when you have a word highlighted) to search for metroweb and open a browser. from there it was easy to install "quick shortcut maker" and enter the settings. I went to the manage app settings and cleared the data for settings, then I went to the backup account section and added my gmail as a backup account. Rebooted the phone and now I'm here looking for Custom recovery lol..
I'm not scared of a brick. I've had this phone for two weeks as a brick in FRP mode.
I thought I would share how I got past FRP mode.

[Q] HTC Wildfire A3333 HARDLOCKED

I am a 65 year old android phone nooby I do not have a clue how these things work, I got the Wildfire A3333 off my son who purchased it secondhand off e-bay. It was completely locked up, but I purchased an unlock code that did not work? So went on you tube and found out how to reset it by clearing it? I put in a new sim card and I connected to the internet ok but when I tried to phone to set up the SIM it would not connect, nor will it send messages, it has a phone number in there that does not belong to it? because when I phoned it instead of ringing, a bloke answered?? Is there a way to get pass this hardlock or is it useless for phoning /messaging, everything else works internet, camera etc.

clear storage is just about the sdcard as far as i know. Other way is to factory reset in the android settings under "storage" or "security"
Just in case that will not help we can think about further steps to reset the phone. If its a used phone i CLEARLY recommend to reset or better reflash it bacause you cant if the last owner installed any malicious software on the phone.

I followed your instructions and did a factory reset, but it is still the same? except now there is no red triangle when I try to phone 150 to register the SIM card, I still can not access the call forwarding/call barring settings? And to be honest I do not have a clue what reflash means?
Thanks for help anyway:good:

Reflash means to reinstall the operating system (Android) on the phone. Compared to install windows on a home computer. It needs some more experience flashing a firmware but i can assisst you.
The point is that it seems as someone modified the phone on his own or the phone is from a different region/country. Just to be clear. Why did you buy a locked phone?
To know how to act pls do as followed:
Turn off phone. Go into "BOOTLOADER" by pressing "Vol down + Power" for some seconds. It will show some info. Please take a photo and upload it. then go to section "SIMLOCK" and take a photo too.
With this informations i can easiest tell you if its modified and how to get rid of the lock.

I did not buy it, it was given to me by my youngest son, he has learning difficulties and I do not think he knew what he was buying? And I think he tried accessing it until it completely locked up? It has been in a drawer for two years and came to light when he recently moved house, he also took out the SD card and misplaced it.
I hope I have done this right

Please download this --> HTC Wildfire unbranded RUU
and HTC USB drivers
you will also need a working usb cable and of course your computer
BTW it was good to have a micro sd card (Not necessary)
---------- Post added at 07:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:38 PM ----------
Install the driver and Make sure HTC sync (in case you installed it before) is closed. Start the phone into bootloader and select "fastboot" while connected to your computer. It should show up "fastboot usb" then you can run the RUU ( the big file you downloaded ) it will flash the stock firmware on your phone. Keep in mind that all personal data will be cleared during the flash process. If it runs successfully you should not face trouble anymore. If issues remain just tell me. Its important that the firmware update is NOT INTERRUPTED in any way, as it could make the device temporarily unusable. This should work fine for you, but of course its in YOUR RESPONCE what happens to the phone. So just go on, if you're sure how to act.

I can not get my computer to run the HTC Driver programme? I think a virus programme or firewall is stopping it opening?
It's NO VIRUS for sure. You can cut internet connection and deactivate antivirus to solve it and still be safe. After installing you can reactivate AV.
To proceed:
You are running a windows computer? Have installed any syncing software e.g. Samsung KIES, HTC Sync, Blackberry Chimera? If yes, uninstall it pls.
I ask bacause i NEVER had issues with installing teh HTC driver. Does it show up any error message?

I think its English? but I just want to be sure about the driver install please I think I will be able to do the flash, do I just click on the HTC Driver link and plug my phone in? I am a complete novice at this :good: I did not try last night because my battery went low and I did not want to interupt the install? fully charged now,:good: Thank you
First Download BOTH files please. That means to save them to your computer.
Run the HTCdriver4.2.exe as it provides the needed drivers. It will tell you that drivers have been installed successfully when finished.
Then you can boot the phone to "bootloader" and select "Fastboot" connect it to your computer and it will show "fastboot USB". Keep the phone connected like that.
Run the RUU_Buzz_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.22.405.1_Radio_13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10_release_160191_signed.exe
It is self explaing BUT to be safe: Check the box "I read and understand it" - press next - Check "steps done" and press next.
NOW the programm will start flashing the firmware (Operating System + some other needed files).
Once finished the programm will tell you "successfull ...!
You should be able to boot Android and everything should be resetted and set back to stock.
Then you can try if you still face any issues with the simcard.

Help, I can't get past the WIFI screen and I can't flash a new rom on this phone

Hello guys,
I need your assistance with this issue. I got this Boost Mobile LG LS770/Stylo phone from eBay and when I wiped/restored it to clean everything from the other person, the phone still wants me to enter the information from the previous person before I can use it. Of course that is not an option. I tried.
Also, since I am unable to get to the Android OS, I cannot put it in debug mode either. So I tried a few things to no avail. This is what I have done so far:
Put the phone in ADB mode via recovery - Done, but I am unable to sideload anything. I get this error.. "* cannot read 'sideload' *"
Put the phone in download mode "Fireware Update" - Done, and I can see my port as COM3, but when I run the next step, I get a message that says... "Hello, my name is LAF....." and nothing happens.
I tried using the LG one click root tool, but that requires the phone to be in USB debug mode and like I said before, I am unable to even get to the welcome screen in android. I can't get past wifi setup in reality, I can't even skip it.
I have been at this all day today. Can you please help me out? I really appreciate any help you can provide.
Thanks

Thank you for the suggestion , but this method does not work. I have already tried this and after the tool went through all the steps, it still asks for the previous account. I have found on some other forums that LG patched this flaw a few months ago and it is no longer possible to bypass FRP Factory Reset Protection. I guess I have a rock until someone can figure out how to bypass this "Feature", which in my opinion should be illegal because it forces people to buy devices from carriers only and you can no longer sell your phone online to anyone, as you cannot give them the account.

It didn't work for me either... the last security patch disabled user from the settings menu. I did find a way after many hours of work.
Basically once I got to settings I clicked unknown sources and then enabled USB debugging and oem unlock. After that I flashed twrp and then a rooted system image. After that I used http://androiding.how/bypass-google-account-verification-on-lg-g4-g3-and-others and it worked

I honestly don't remember. I'll try to figure it out and get back to you. I think it was through the keyboard. I returned the phone already so I do t have it on front of me.
Look for anything with terms of service. Once you're on the internet you can download the settings app that everyone uses on the internet.

Web trust me i went crazy with this for 3 days. My friend gave me his Stylo from work to unlock and i had this same issue. Flashed back to 5.1.1e,i,j, using kdz files and all the exploits that these guys are using have been shut down. If your on MM forget it. The only thing that worked for me was that tool i linked in the other thread. I hope your wrong on the virus part, ill check my laptop, but your the first person to mention that. Either way i flashed back to 5.1.1 from MM, used the tool, rebooted and it worked i signed in with his gmail.

I understand and I apologize if I sounded like I was shutting your advise down. That was not my intention. I was just stating what my virus tools detected and my experience. Regardless, I decided to ignore the virus warning and let the tool run and do what the steps on the word document stated. It went through all the steps without issues and I got the same matching screen as in the tutorial document. However, after I reboot, I still get the same screen that reads, login with a google account previously associated with this device.
Now, the one piece I'm not sure I understand from your message above is the part about flashing to 5.1.1 from MM using kdz files. How can you flash the phone when you cannot get into the settings to enable usb debug mode? I have tried everything. I even downloaded a rom file image that I placed on an Micro SD card and tried running it from recovery to no avail.
Maybe you are correct and I am just missing a step. Would you mind expanding on the flashing 5.1.1 from MM part? Maybe what steps and files you had to use?
Also, I'm not sure I understand this portion of your message. You signed in with who's gmail?

is there a software older than 5.1.1 that can be flashed to the device?
You can use touch assistant to get in to settings and then disable all google aps, works for me on lg stylo 6.0, PaulieP he is the person that found this method

RCA Voyager rct6873w42 rooting help

I was wondering does anyone know of a working way to apply root to this device. I have tried kingo root, king root, iroot, one click root, and impactor. Everyone of them fails when trying to apply the root. i thought maybe i could attempt to unlock the bootloader on the deivce cause that might be what is causing them to fail. I booted into recovery and then clicked reboot into bootloader and the device just boots normal so i am unable to get into the bootloader to even attempt to unlock it. I'm at a roadblock with this device. If anyone can help me get root on this device i would be grateful.
Well I believe that you have enable bootloader unlock in developer tools before you can unlock the bootloader
i enabled oem unlock in developer options what now

When you reboot into fastboot mode a blank screen is correct... you can use the fastboot commands from the connected PC
at this point.
I have got this far however I have had no luck thus far in unlocking the bootloader, this is not an indication that it cant be done
just that I do not know the proper command in fastboot, most of my work on Tablets has been on the Allwinner SOC's and I
almost never had to use Fastboot in modding those since the bootloader is not locked on those SOC's for the most part.
RCA has very little useful info on their site nor even a Firmware download available... I would love to get ahold of a firmware for this Tablet in order to make modding it easier, failing that if I can manage to root it I should be able to pull the partitions and create a useable firmware mod... If you have any more luck with this please share whatever info you get and I will do the same.
Thanks

I tried the oem unlock command and it does not work, returns command fail...
The Viking uses the MT8127 SOC which would tend to have a different Firmware.. since that is a chinese SOC I expect the unlock to be
a bit easier typically i have found that on Tablets they often do not even lock the bootloader... the Sofia 3gr or Atom X3 is in the tab we have I have been looking into similar devices... so far I have not got much reading done on these... I will have a look at any info I can locate on here regarding the Viking .. but I have already read about some of the other Model # / versions of the Voyager on here and ours is not the same. The ones I have read up on so far do not seem to have a major problem rooting. This one is a bit of a pain as I cant use adb in root mode which when possible makes rooting much easier...
The link to the Paid site you posted seems to be dead...
I have tried SRSRoot which also does not work... actually i have attempted using Kingoroot, iroot, rootgenius, framaroot, towelroot, tunesgo
and OneClickRoot none have any success at all... they do indicate varying degrees of progress but in the end the most that any has accomplished is to push their app to the tab.
I will keep trying and looking... perhaps I will locate a firmware for these out there so i can examine the partitions and their contents more
closely...
Thanks

No I have still not got root access, I have unlocked the tablet and am exploring ways to load a recovery image from fastboot without flashing it. I have also inquired with RCA about getting a copy of the Firmware and I continue to search google etc. for the firmware. Once I have the firmware I am confident that I can root the Tablet fairly quickly.

fastboot flashing unlock while pressing vol + button on tab... if you simply enter the command while watching the screen you can see the display flash a message calling for input... if you press no buttons it auto enters a no answer... it goes by really fast so the only way I have been able to catch it is by pressing the + vol button then enter the fastboot flashing unlock
that does the trick.

I usually just go into adb shell, then do reboot fastboot.
The Tab will reboot with an apparent blank screen, if you look closely you will note that there is a faint backlight. Once in this mode your PC will have a new device in device manager, if it is unrecognized device you can manually assign a device driver. I have the intel drivers installed as well as the google drivers. Woth the intel drivers you can do an Update driver select Browse my computer for driver software, then Let me pick from a List of device drivers on my computer, then scroll down to the Intel Android Device in the list and select either the Intel Android Bootloader device or the Android Bootloader Device, Both seem to work fine.... If you do not install the intel drivers then you should be able to select the USB devices option then select theADB Device. This also seems to work fine...
When in fastboot mode you will havea blank screen however when you enter certain fastboot commands there will be a very brief flash of information/input needed on the screen, it seems the ui in this mode is inhibited in some way.
Also worth noting on this model almost all the commands previously done using oem [command] are now done with flashing [command].
I have now located a firmware for this device and am downloading it. The file is on baidu so is going to take some time to get but once I have it I should be able to do something with the bootloader to allow rooting by most of the conventional apps... as well as make my own rooted version of the firmware and likely get started modding it...
Well the first one I found is a bust... the files contained in the .zip are not in a format that is directly usable or they are corrupted. It appears to contain files from an MTK scatter and has MTK info in the text based config files.. so either someone pulled these using the MTK tool incorrectly or they labeled the file incorrectly as rct6873w42 firmwares... or this could be something I am not aware of...
either way these are taking some time... baidu is slow...
Well it seems that all the ones I have found and downloaded so far have turned out to be mislabeled firmwares for other models of the RCA devices. I will keep pulling them in hopes of finding one that works but meanwhile I will look into some other avenues as well.
So far I'm with you guys up to unlocking the bootloader. Have we made any progress with locating rootable firmware? I've rooted a phone before but never a tablet let alone such a pain in the neck tablet.
I have run
fastboot flashing unlock
and got all that squared away, is there anything else to do at this point? Is it safe to continue to use it in it's current state? You guys are awesome by the way I couldn't find anything anywhere else online for this model. Y'all are making history!

Tested method to repair bricked Honor 6

Some time ago I bought a Honor 6 bricked by a firmware upgrade.
I done some reading, I asked friends but I couldn't fix it. I opened a topic here and many people tried to help me. Nothing worked... I contacted some experienced people from this, and a Romanian forum, but no success. I was trying to fix it for 2 months now.
Eventually, I came across a solution made by DC-Unlocker Team.
I bought some credits to be able to run the solution and with a few mouse clicks my phone was repaired. Now it works perfectly. I do have some questions to ask about several issues in Honor 6, but let me describe how I fixed my phone with this solution.
I would like to underline that I am in no way related to the DC-unlocker Team.
The software can repair most of the Honor firmware problems:
Bricked phones, bootloop, stuck in fastboot mode
It can write full firmware update.app in fastboot mode
Can flash phones with locked bootloader or FRP. (No need to get the bootloader unlock code)
The whole procedure is detailed here, but let me describe the steps which I took. I also attach few screenshots of the process.
1. Make sure, that you install Huawei Hisuite (for drivers), or Universal ADB driver.
2 Enter fastboot mode on the phone and connect it to your computer. Remove the SD card if there is one installed in the phone.
3. Check if computer detects the phone is fastboot mode, run fastboot devices command
4. The firmware repair process will need 15 credits (which will cost 15 euro). You can buy the credits here
Credits are deducted immediately, but you can flash the same phone any time you want for 72 hours.
5. After you buy the credits, download the software client here
Supported models and features here
6. Start the program. It will ask your credentials for the DC-unlocker server. You receive those credentials when you buy the first time credits.
7. In the DC Phoenix software, select fastboot mode, select "App files" tab.
8. Carefully chose the update.app for recovery. Be careful, not to flash a different hardware variant (in a H60-L12 flash only H60-L12 firmware and so on). Not doing so will probably break your phone forever. The program does not check compatibility, nor the phone in this mode.
9. Open the update app by clicking right end of the line "Update file".
10 Click "Update". Program will unpack the update.app and will start to flash all the chosen img packs.
Here I got really scared, because first write was unscuccessful, I got this message: "PTABLE partition UPDATE ... FAILED
I thought that I threw away my money. But program managed really well: "Activating Backdoor: DONE"
After this step, everything went well: "Writing device finished OK"
11. Power cycle your phone. It should start normally.
12. On the dc-unlocker site they say: "Then you need to repeat flashing, but now in upgrade mode". I did not ran this step. I made a full factory reset and started OTA upgrades. Phone is now version: EMUI4.0.1_H-60-L12_6.11.1.
It has Android 6, EMUI 4.0.1.
At one moment I thought that is better to go back to a previous version and flashed an older tested firmware, it worked without any problems..
Although my experience is limited to this phone only, I recommend this solution. Please feel free to ask, I will try to answer any questions.
So the software deactivates itself after 72h?

Hi
The recovery process starts only after validated by the server.
Validation occurs when you have enough credits on your account, or if you already paid for that phone not more than 72 hours ago.

No, there are no refunds, but if you have a phone with only firmware error and you chose the right firmware, there are big chances that the program will recover your phone.
But if security damaged, you will need factory file.
method 2 can help in 99% cases, but only if there 100% compatible file.
They have only H60-L04 factory file.
Repairing by this method, will erase phone security data (simlock, IMEI and other numbers)
You will lose all numbers!, IMEI will be 0000000000000000
You can repair missing numbers with third party software, like HCU client
You can use DC-unlocker credits on HCU client, software will require 8 credits for repair service.
Thanks. When there's no other solution it might be handy.

It seems that you did not understand me.
If you read this topic you will learn that in some cases, flashing back the 4 img's will not help.
In some cases you cannot access 3 button recovery or TWRP (although you flashed it correctly), to be able to do a complete flash write.
This was the case when this program (which you call a scam!) proved a life-saver.
I am very happy that I could restore my phone because I like it very much.

Yep, the SW works OK ..
First it extracts the IMG files from the UPDATE.APP - same as Huawei Update Extractor. Then it flashes all IMG files (+-) using fastboot - but here is the catch.. it uses an undocumented feature of fastboot:
fastboot.exe oem backdoor get
And then generates the necessary unlock file/sequence which it then feeds to the phone using:
fastboot.exe flash slock XXX_Unlockcode.bin
So indeed it does work - I've used it, you can go between EMUI3.1 and 4.0/0.1 no problem - if we knew how to generate the unlock file for the "backdoor" - we would be all set However we don't and the generated file changes with every "oem backdoor get" request..
But 15EUR seems almost reasonable for this (I'd prefer 10EUR hehe) - otherwise, we would need to use parted and dd the necessary partitions which is more dangerous and we don't have a large enough community of users to dump the necessary partitions..

I will think about this issue, but a quick idea is: you could try a full firmware update from SD card with the 3 button method and a factory restore after.
Happy to hear that buddy... I threw away a honor 6 about two months ago, was stuck in fastboot for more than a month, if had it, I am sure, this would have fixed it.:crying:
Another Honor 6 saved with this method, this time a H60-L02
I guess you really threw away your money, because you can extract the update.app with huaweiupdateextractor( free ) and flash the cust.img system.img boot.img and recovery.img with adb and fastboot. But if you had the “Command not allowed error“ when you try to flash, even your software wouldnt have helped you, because it basically does the same as i explained above.

No data using unlocked AT&T Samsung S7- HELP

My apologies if this has been dealt with elsewhere, if so please just point me where to go...
Last week we switched to T-Mobile from AT&T. I had AT&T unlock all 4 of our phones. That was done successfully.
So my wife starts using her S7 and she can make calls and text just fine, but she calls from work saying she has no data. Hmm. So I call tech support. They have me change Access Point info several times, but still no luck. Tech guy "escalates" things to "Engineering" but we haven't heard boo from them.
I was tinkering with the phone and recall Airplane mode can sometimes kickstart data issues, sure enough, if I turn Airplane Mode on, then off, I get full 4G LTE signal and we can surf. But the minute I reboot the phone, we lose data connection until I do the airplane trick.
Note that all of our other phones have no issues like this, and yes, tech says all phones show having full access to data.
So has anyone had this issue and successfully fixed it? If so how? It's driving us crazy.
Thanks in advance.

Ok it's actually easier to give you instructions on the main thread but first I need you to make sure you have access to a computer unless you are actually using xda so assuming you are near your computer when you have time back up your wife's phone with smart switch, here is a download link http://www.samsung.com/us/assets/Smart_Switch_pc_setup.exe
Matter of fact I got a call from T-Mobile telling me to try to "flash the software" and use the Smart Switch to back things up. I downloaded the Smart Switch for PC but when I tried to open it, it wouldn't install, gave me some weird error message.
So once I get the phone backed up, can you point me to how to flash the T-Mobile software? I'm crossing my fingers this is fairly easy since I'm not much of a tech when it comes to deeper smartphone tweaking (ROM's this and that lol).
Thanks for your help folks. I just want a smooth running phone vs. giving T-Mobile $30 more a month for an identical phone.

So am I downloading both those files above to my PC, or to the phone? At what point to do I put phone into Download mode??
I guess the big question, what are the odds that this bricks her phone?

The bootloader is locked so you can only brick your phone if you unplug it while it is flashing also you may have to use a modified Odin program so if you need it let me know
So to confirm the steps:
First backup my phone using Samsungs software via my PC then..
Download the two files you posted earlier TO MY PC.
Open Odin and get the folders situated..
Plug in the phone to the PC and set it to Download mode
Let it do it's thing..once done I should have the full T-Mobile software and no more AT&T junk?
Sound correct..if not, please fill in any missing steps.
Much appreciated.

Thanks, so how would I know if I need a modified Odin program??
How do I make sure I have the correct drivers? Assuming I need those loaded to the PC(?) BEFORE I start all this process?

Use this link to download drivers http://developer.samsung.com/common/download/check.do?actId=698
So have you done this same thing to an AT&T S7 with full success? Just wondering. My wife won't let me hear the end of it if I brick this phone. LOL
