[Completed] Marshmallow 6.0.1 & Moving Apps to other storage -Possible? How? - XDA Assist

I have a rooted XT912V Verizon Motorola Razr-Maxx (original).
This phone has safestrap 2.75. Recently updated to CM13. It has pico gapps and a core set of the typical Google apps we all LIKE vs the ones we dont
Anyways....
Developers mode is enabled. I am able to go into memory and storage (or APPS), and can move a few of the apps, but not many. The phone only has 2GB main storage, and every app downloaded from the store INSISTS on installing on this 2GB space. Its very irritating. The phone also has 8GB of internal storage space, non removable.
With that said, I have a few questions.
1.) Why can't I format the internal fixed 8GB as proprietary internal storage vs portable? There seems to be NO WAY to do this. (rather preposterous).
2.) Why do only some apps have the option to be moved and others dont? Is it a "System App" setting which disallows this? Can it be overwritten?
3.) Given the issues, why cant I change the memory space the phone uses for RAM to at least the built in 8GB? Can I partition the XD card (removable) and set it as part internal part portable?
Shame on Google for getting so sloppy with their software. Things like disk management and storage space, log file backups, and clean up should come and the first feature after providing an OS. Granted I am using CM, but I digress - its no better on stock on any of my other devices.
Thanks for any help you can provide. I googled, and searched on threads here. I'm really not looking to be pointed to a thread for an app that requires busybox and other hoops to be jumped through. I'm looking for information on why it is like this, is it being fixed, or is "fixing" it to make it MORE like this. Can I do this manually via adb? I'm not a linux novice but I have a lot to learn about Android and loading more apps on the phone from what I've read so far is unclear if it will work and continue to work. Some people have said in threads they move it manually after each app they load. I don't mind that, but I want to understand what makes an app declare itself as NON movable.
Thank you

[Q] S-OFF on p3110 possible?

I am not sure if this post is placed right. If not I hope that Moderator can move it to the right place...
I have just rooted my Galaxy Tab 2 7" (P3110 - Android 4.0.4) as I wanted to be able to use my external memory card for apps and not for music, films and photos only. I must say that I got a little bit dissapointed when I failed to get link2sd to work and started to google for som epossible solutions.
The most reasonable one I could come up with us that my tab2 have S-ON?
Is it possible to see it that's the case?
If so that it has S-ON, is there any way to make it S-OFF?
I am kind of new to Android and don't really know what to look for or if it's even possible on the p3110 to use the external memory card for apps. The interlan memory of 8gb, shared with the system, is kind of low (only 4gb left) and I can't even install apps like TomTom, various games etc on a clean system with the amout of memory I have available.
I have Googled and didn't find much of info regarding S-ON/OFF on the Galaxy Tab 2.
S-Off/S-On is only on HTC devices and not applicable to Samsung devices. As for using external memory for app storage rather than internal, you would need a changed kernel to swap them, or a start-up script that will switch where the two devices are mounted.

Ok. That explains why I couldn't find any help by googeling.
So one need either a kernel that swaps the mem card or a start-up script...? I will search for those options, unless you already know where to find suiteful info regarding this?
Is this also the only way to get link2sd to work with the p3110? ...maybe I am asking too much now but I recently bought my first Android device since an old phone with some 2.x version where I could move to mem card as I wanted, rooted it and really don't know where to go from here

this seems to be exactly what you're looking for but I don't know how to actually do it. Configuring permissions is not something I know to do. Would be great if someone comes up with app to do this.

[Q] What have you done as for limited storage space?

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Gt-8013, 16gb white. So I've had my note since the end of September and have not really used it much till recently. Downloading large games/apps and coming to realize that I can't move ANYTHING to the SD card what a shame. Now before people just comment and say why didn't you buy a 32gb I thought that I could move the apps to the SD card and managing storage wouldn't be a problem. How wrong was I. So my first thread and I'm asking what have you guys done to solve this annoying problem no matter how easy or hard the method was.Yes, I've searched the threads and I've read a lot of options but I just feel like none of them are Noob friendly.
TIL : What was the easiest method for you to move apps to your SD card?

Check my thread (one on my signature). Haven't been able to get it working for every android device yet, but it works great for anything with data/media, which includes the note 10.1 Essentially my script makes all apps (and apps only) get installed straight in the external SD. One warning: the process is more advanced than just flashing something in recovery, though not too advanced that You won't be able to do if you follow instructions.
Personally I use directory bind, this requires root. Directory bind will allow you to specify exactly which folders you want to redirect to sd. I currently redirect all my game data to sd, leave plenty of room on internal storage.
The other bonus, since my game data is on sd if I have to wipe I won't have to download all those gigs of data again.
Sent from my GT-N8000 using XDA Premium HD app
I dont know why more developers dont give you the option to store large data on the external card. Bards Tale came out and initially stored all data internal (3-4Gb), couple of updates later and it gives you the option to store externally so more developers need to cotton on to this and sort their apps out !
i use zedomax's apps2sd script to swap storage

Will do so, I take it that i have to be rooted for me to apply your script. (sorry for the noob question)
Also, like to thank everyone for help/answers. I wouldn't be able to do half the stuff with out this community. :good:

[Completed] [Q] Sprout Cubby Android 4.4.2

I purchased a sprout cubby for my 3year old for Christmas im having an issue with the sd card... it seems the onboard drive was partitioned making the the second partition an internal sdcard my issue is this that partition is only 6gb of space and after only installing a handful of apps there is no space left for anything else.. id like to be able to move to apps to my 16gb external sdcard is there a way to do this eith by possibly dismounting the second partition or so other way I would prefer not to have to root the device at all as it will only be my 3 year olds tablet... this is the perfect device for her but I hate the lake of space...
please help!!!
Hi,
Unfortunately some of these tablets are a bit deceiving. They are advertised to have a specific amount of memory. However that does not take into account the amount of memory allocated towards system. But to only have 6 g off the bat seems a bit odd. There should be at least 10.
Now I also was unable to find anything relevant to your question for that device. It's not a common tablet for people who tinker. You can post your question here if you wish. However I truly do not think there is or will be a confirmed rooting method for this device.
Good luck!

[Completed] Request for help with Android tablet storage partitioning.

Hello,
I am a new Android use, but I have some knowledge and experience with computers (wintel platform mainly).
The Android tablet that I own was given to me as a present, at the beginning of this year (I did not choose it). It's technical characteristics can be seen in the pictures contained in the attached zip file.
My problem is the following: the partitioning of its built-in storage (which I think is 16GB), for reasons unknown to me, is such that the "internal storage" of 1GB (almost) very quickly becomes full from the installed apps that soon these apps cannot even be updated. Most of them cannot be moved to what is referred to as "USB storage" or to the external SD storage.
I would be grateful if somebody would tell me how to re-install the system with e;ither one partition (whatever remains of the 16GB after the OS and other system s/w is installed) or, if the presence of an "internal storage" partition and a "USB storage" partition is "obligatory", then I would like the "USB storage" to be the smaller one (the minimum "required"). Any "data" (music, videos, photos) I will put in the external SD storage.
If the solution that will be proposed requires the installation of a ROM different from the one supplied by the OEM of the tablet, which in turn will mean that I loose whatevet warranty I have, that's OK with me.
Thank you to anybody who will take the time to read this and offer a suggestion for the solution of my problem.
George (geokats56)
Hi, thank you for using XDA Assist. Android uses many different partitions to operate properly. You really don't want to be messing with them. Unless you really, really, really know what you're doing you will brick your device and make it inoperable. You also won't gain much in usable space. So, while 16 gigs isn't that big, I'd learn to live with it.

Hi jd1639,
Thank you for taking the time to read my post and respond.
Actually, I am not complaining for the 16GB, which is probably adequate for the purposes that I intend to use the tablet for. I am complaining about the fact that the manufacturer saw fit to allow only 1GB (of the 16, minus the approx. 3 that the "system" consumes) for the partition where everything seems to want to work in, mainly the applications that are downloaded from Google Play store. After a very little while, this partition becomes full, to the point where the already installed apps can't update themselves, when the OS finds out there is an update available and "prompts" the user to proceed with the update.
I most ecrtainly don't want to brick the tablet, and because I am not an experienced Android user (as I already mentioned in my original post) I am asking for guidance.
Best regards,
George (geokats56)
I really don't recommend you mess with the partitions. But see this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2234515. Read it very carefully and make sure you understand what you're doing first. If you have any doubts ask in that thread. The guide is for a specific device. Your partitions will be different. See this also, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2450045 also this, http://www.xda-developers.com/uapm-partition-management/
Thanks!
Thanks again jd1639, for taking the time to send me the info.
Best regards,
George (geokats56)

disable android 11 APP_DATA_DIRECTORY_ISOLATION system wide (breaks app2sd linking)

yes, (dead brained) android developers again broken the file-system access....
as lot of users that have an old device, I use app2sd app to move my app to sdcard (because adoptable storage is a sh..t, that don´t even care about partitioning a sdcard to still allow to use it to store data that I want to access from a pc when the phone has problems... again, theses "clever" google engineer didn't even asked themselves why user created app2sd like app... why they chosen to use dedicated partition and still allow to have a shareable storage... ) , my sdcard speed is fast enough to not see any difference between internal storage and sd card stored app, and I worry more about emmc aging than a few ms....
BUT, seems that the APP_DATA_DIRECTORY_ISOLATION feature prevent moving the data to sdcard, I use lineageos, in developper settings there is override per application compatibility, when I uncheck APP_DATA_DIRECTORY_ISOLATION in this for a particular app linked to sdcard, this solve the issue, and a sd card stored app can be used...
however, this settings isn't persistent... so on next reboot I have to do it again for every app linked to sdcard....
and you know what? it was reported to android dev, that replied... to buy a new phone!!! because emmc storage is much more faster.... I begin to really get upset at android, they took a nice system (linux) and made it s....t, and more, how many cpu power is lost by android checks (since it can be desactivated on the fly per app... this isn't something that rely on kernel....)
so my question, is it possible to have this option set to off by default on boot? how?
thanks
