Last billing cycle I decided to test T-Mobile to see if they will throttle my speed once I reached 5GB. Two days before the billing cycle ended, I passed the 5GB mark and T-Mobile indeed throttled it at exactly 5GB.
When the new billing cycle started I noticed something different.
My constant download speed has always been 2 - 3 Mbps. But when I run I test now my constant download speed is 6 - 7 Mbps.
Somehow the throttling woke up the 4G I guess
Has this happened to anyone else?
(no change on rom, sim card, plan, location, nor way of holding the phone )
Maybe your area has just received the improved 4G network roll out, OKC got that roll out a few weeks ago and I have been seeing 6 or 7Mbps ever since then.
Is anyone going to try this???

Call tmobile and confirm they have your correct IMEI number setup this has been an issue with the G2X and well boost signal strength

My speeds was horrible to begin with I averaged 350kbps on 3g I got throttled lastnight now an getting 45kbps.
And whats crazy is my upload speeds averaged from 800kbps to 1mbps
I'm going to call today

Tmo has two networks they call 4g. One is their 3g network just rebranded and another its legitimately faster. You probably switched networks, there's no indication of when you do so.

I'm on Verizon and I was under the impression that they did not throttle the 4G network, but lately, I have been getting very slow speeds (on the order of 3G speeds) and have been unable to connect to 4G in locations that I usually get four 4G bars.
I have not rooted or modified my phone in any way.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Will I be affected by Network Optimization?
Only a small percent of customers will be affected. To be affected, you must be:
A data customer on an unlimited data plan;
Have a 3G Verizon Wireless device (if you have a 4G LTE device you will not be impacted); and
Among the top 5% of data users in a given month.
So the short answer is: you should not be throttled. I'm at 40GB for my data plan this month. I had problems with my home DSL and it has been out for awhile, so I do everything from my phone. We've had LTE for almost 3 weeks here and I have been able to run speed tests daily that exceed 30Mbps down.
Hmm, then I suppose there's something actually wrong with my connection. Hanks for that.
Any ideas as to how I can resolve these issues? I've been stuck on 3G.

Check your APN settings.
I was having the same issue. I rebooted my phone a few times and that didn’t work. I was literally walking into a Verizon store to have it looked at when I decided to run another speedtest so that I wouldn’t look stupid. It went from usually getting 4mbps down to 35mbps down. I went ahead and took it in and they said nothing was wrong with it. I took it home and since then I’ve been getting 20mbps down consistently. This is weird considering I’d been getting 4mbps down since I got the phone.

Good to know, thanks for this information. I was wondering since I have been doing some tethering. I might be up at 8-10GB in a big month but nowhere near 40GB.
I've consistently managed 20-30 Mbps when I drove to an area with 4G, but recently, it hasn't wanted to go over 3 Mbps. Additionally, quite often the data connection (and occasionally my calls) have been dropping. I'm not sure if it's a phone problem, a tower problem, or what.
I've noticed the same thing. My phone got 18mb/s down when I first got it, now it's only around 5 I think.
Reviving the thread now that 4G LTE unlimited data owners are affected. Show your support and send this guy a quick note. Please do not allow VZW to "throttle" unlimited 4G LTE plan owners. He is on our side. Don't enter a BS email address.

Earlier this week, I went to AT&T to get a new micro sim for my Nexus 5. It works fine on HSPA+. However, I never see it go to LTE. Using the speedtest app, my d/l speeds max out at 2.5Mbps.
I am in an LTE coverage area. I stood right next to a couple of my co-workers with a Moto X and iphone 5. Both of their phones say LTE.
I called 611 (AT&T customer service) to make sure I had LTE coverage. According to their system, both my phone and plan say LTE.
Am I missing anything? Do I need to do anything (play with any settings) to make LTE go on?
Help...
Is it set to LTE and CDMA/GSM?
LTE is selected
Interesting I'm getting mine today and will be using AT&T I'll let you know if I have the same problem
Very weak LTE for me too. I'm a little disappointed in that, but I'm getting 5-8Mbps down with HSPA+
My LTE works fine on AT&T, I've ran some tests and seen 30Mbps
is your account provisioned for LTE?

I'm getting LTE with no problem. I'm getting about 20 down and 12 up. The only so far I don't like is the speaker volume. It may be YouTube, but it's horrible.

mine is correctly provisioned, and i do see LTE, but it's very weak for me where friends with a Moto X and iPhone 5 see full LTE coverage.
My Nexus 4 on T-Mobile would stay on LTE all day, but my Nexus 5 gets off LTE and goes back to HSPA+ when it drops to 2 bars or less. I am very aggravated. I can get it on LTE if I show it that there is LTE around by going to the secret dialer menu and enabling LTE only, but it is like it doesn't want to get on LTE unless it is 4-5 bars.
I need to see how my wife's Nexus 5 operates and I may end up RMAing mine.
I have yet to see my Nexus 5 on LTE (AT&T), i'm coming from an HTC One and that has connected to LTE without issues, not sure what the issue is, if AT&T is blocking it because its an 'unknown device' or what, has anybody discovered anything new on this?

Works great on AT&T's LTE network on the n5, SIM originally from a Lumia 920 also LTE.
No problem here with SIM out of S3. I did notice that he automatically changed my APN's. It only pulled ATT Phone and ATT WAP. Its set to Phone. I am roughly same speed as s3

I'm using a new micro sim since I was previously using a galaxy nexus. I'm thinking that it might be an apn setting issue. If there any way you (or someone else) could list their apn settings? A screenshot would be great.. Thanks in advance.
Works fine for me using the stock APN
I walked in my AT&T store, handed my Nexus 5 still in the box to a tech, she unboxed it, put in a sim booted it up, download SpeedTest app and with a LTE tower right next to the store these were the numbers I got.

exactly the same experience. walked in today with my N5, handed it to the tech, transferred my # (coming from VZW), activated a new sim, put it in and off i went into LTE land. no issues at all
I've had the same issue since I got my Nexus 5 last Monday. Went to store, she put in LTE sim. Mine only show H. That's it just "H". Called at&t several times. They tried different settings on the phone. Suppose to send me another sims card in the mail. Also, said they "escalated" my case to a specialist. I should have it resolved by Nov. 11th.
I just simply pop in my sim from my s4

I have Straight Talk with a T Mobile SIM in my Nexus 5 and I am getting awesome LTE coverage, although my friend has the exact same setup and is only getting H data and not LTE. We are both using the same APN settings, and the only difference that I can think of is that I bought my SIM card more recently. I didn't think that the T Mobile SIMs on Straight Talk supported LTE, but I am definitely getting it and was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same. If you are getting LTE, what are your APN settings?

That's what I thought, but I am definitely on Straight Talk with a T Mobile sim and am getting LTE data. Not just in my area either, since I recently took a trip and had LTE coverage in many major cities.
I can confirm that the new ST T-Mobile SIM cards support LTE. Received my new SIM one week ago and have been enjoying LTE speeds for the past week. Interestingly, the color of the SIM card was hot pink as opposed to the light pink T-Mobile SIM I used to have.

Thanks for this. I tried to contact useless Straight Talk support regarding this question. They didn't seem to understand it, sent me the at&t APN settings, when I called them on it, they sent me the non-smartphone APN settings. They said that yes, t-mobile does support LTE, not just H+ (but I didn't actually trust them to understand the question), however said nothing about needing a new sim card. I have the light pink sim right now.
However I'm still not entirely convinced. Here's a picture on ebay of what I assume is the new hot pink sim:
http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Straight-Talk-Micro-SIM-Card-T-Mobile-Network-/00/s/MTYwMFgxMjAw/z/b7gAAOxy3zNSlQHw/$_57.JPG
You can see clearly on the card that it admits "4g" is HSPA+, not LTE. I'm also suspicious because T-Mobile has a different APN setting for LTE, while Straight Talk does not. Has anyone checked the "Mobile Network Type" in settings to verify that you really truly are getting LTE? Could the hot pink be because it's in micro sim size? The at&t cards have a similar color scheme (light blue for full sized sim, dark blue for micro), and I think offering the Micro Sim size for t-mobile is new, but the internals of the sim may not be.
Can someone post a speedtest speeds result of their "LTE" speeds? My H+ speeds are very fast, so I don't know if there'll be much difference..

Going to order a T-Mobile sim and see if I can get LTE. Hoping i can use straight talk with LTE vs the $60 T-Mobile plan. Tried the $30 T-Mobile plan but need more than 100 minutes and VoIP isn't cutting it

I ordered mine directly from the straight talk website but I think you can order one from Walmart
Just curious if anyone here has been cutoff by straight talk. I read the small print, and you are only unlimited on their web space. So technically they can cut you off if you use too much data.

Its unlimited 2.5gb LTE. Then they throttle you down.. Maybe if you blew threw all your 2.5gb in five minutes by downloading a torrented movie they'd shut you off. All your data in less then a day.

Ok cool. So as long as i order it from straight talk, i should get the LTE card? I need to order two and wanted to make sure before i do it.
Currently have the older card and i'm not getting LTE on TMobile. After reading through this thead, sounds like the newer cards will do it.

Download/install LTE settings app. Run your test and look at the app. You can see this in your settings about phone status as well. What does it say you're connecting at?

This happens in an area with partial Spark.
Mine does same thing because I have 3 towers all equal distance from me. 1 is Spark other 2 are not.
If you travel to another location you probably won't see the issue but in short from talking to some eng. the phone is doing 1 of two things.
A) It see's an LTE signal and as LTE is primary it starts to try to connect to it but before it fully does (thus why you never see LTE icon) it realizes it doesn't support the switched fall back required to allow Spark phones to get calls while on LTE so it kicks you back to 3g. This process continues to repeat :/
B) The phone see's an weak LTE signal, as is primary starts to connect but before it fully does the signal is determined to be to weak and falls back to 3g.
In both cases the phone possibly would never show you the LTE icon as that will only show once fully established and it doing this jumping back and forth causes 3g to go and die where forcing CDMA fixes.
The other downfall to this is it KILLS the battery.
Connecting to WiFi won't help with the battery part either as it still does the jumping around.
Your only option is really force CDMA mode only when in an area like this, for me, this is at home only, or live with it and lower battery life until they upgrade the towers all the way.

Hate to share the news but that won't solve your problem, it actually could make it worse as it's now another signal to bounce between.
4G IS always priority when enabled, so regardless of you having a "tower" inside your home now, that does not provide 4G, so if the phone's seeing one that does which is what's causing the problem your issue will remain the same meaning you're forced to put the phone in CDMA only mode still.
The problem isn't with the 3G tower or 3G signal, the problem is the 4G signal being detected but not yet compatible with SPARK due to missing the circuit fall back feature, which the phone doesn't know until it attempts to connect. In some areas where it's partially setup the phone can connect to 4G and just calls won't work, in other areas it's disabled or doesn't exist and this problem happens.
Your solution will simply need to be put the phone in CDMA only mode when in a troubled area only, or just leave it in that mode and have no 4g until everything is upgraded better, or deal with as is.
