Device compatibility: second post
Why would I want to use this?
The typical use case is:
1. You use a video player app.
2. You only want to enjoy the sound/music.
3. Thus, you want the display to be off to save battery or because the brightness annoys you.
However, most players stop the playback when the screen is turned off.
An often used workaround are apps which set the backlight brightness to a very low (but still visible) value and/or put an additional dark layer on the screen. On typical LCD displays both methods keep the backlight on. Thus, it will still emit light and use battery power.
This app turns off the screen backlight completely without switching off the screen.
Features:
* Notification to quickly switch off screen backlight
* Single or double tap to deactivate
* Option to automatically activate when screen turns off
* Configurable activation delay
* Configurable overlay color and transparency
* Timeout
* Floating activation button (optional, enabled via additional notification)
* Setting to keep screen on (usually not required)
* Shortcut (allows other apps, e.g., automation tools, to switch off the backlight via this app)
How to turn the backlight on again?
Simply touch the screen.
What about OLED/AMOLED screens?
(Note: There are user reports where the app works on devices with AMOLED displays.)
An exception are OLED/AMOLED screens where the pixels itself emit light. I have no device with such a screen for testing. If you have one and test this app, please report whether it works or not.
It doesn't work!
* If you're using MIUI ROM: Please enable "Show popup window" for this app via the system settings.
* Make sure this app was granted root rights.
* Make sure that no brightness control or similar app interferes with this app.
* Do you know what the purpose of this app is? Please make sure before posting that "it doesn't work".
* Please take a minute to search the thread. If there's already an answer/solution this saves both of us time.
* Nothing helps? Post your device name, Android version, ROM name/version and describe exactly what you did, e.g., how you tried to use the app/what you clicked/etc.

[App] BattMonX (Droid X Battery State Monitor via LED Status)

BattMonX is a utility for the Motorola Droid X (also works for other Motorola Droid-class phones) for turning on a phone's LED indicator light (when the screen is off) to represent the battery's current state (charging, charged, discharging, or low-battery). Version 1.8 now allows a rooted Motorola Droid-class phone to have the LED on while the screen is on. This app was originally written for the Motorola Droid X whose LED indicator was not enabled during charging like many other phones do.
Additionally, for phones like the Droid X with a tri-color LED (red/green/blue), a variety of colors may be selected to differentiate the various battery states (OFF, red, green, blue, yellow, orange, deep sky blue, dark violet, dark green, and dark orange). Version 1.8 includes the color "amber" for those phones that support an amber LED indicator. Also, rooted Motorola Droid-class phones can choose "white" as a color option when used with the "LED is Always ON" experimental (and root-only) feature.
PHONE COMPATIBILITY
This app will not work on all phones. For example, the Samsung Vibrant and Captivate do not have LED indicators. Some phones only have a two-color LED (the HTC Eris and Evo 4G both have a green/amber LED; the Epic 4G supports a red/blue LED) which might allow for partial functionality from this app (especially if rooted). Additionally, its clear from testing that some phone's firmware interferes or does not fully implement the standard Android LED notification functionality identically to the Motorola Droid-class of phones.
Extensive logic has been added in version 1.7 and 1.8 in an attempt to support other phones. Version 1.8 now implements a strategy for dynamically finding a phone's battery state files (specifically the "status" and "capacity" files). Additionally, the LED notification directories are identified to determine their location and which color brightness files are supported by your phone's LED. Please contact me at [email protected] for instructions on how to provide debugging information so I can try to support your phone.
USAGE and NOTES
* Launch the BattMonX app and press the "Start Monitoring Battery Status" button. Monitoring will take place in the background and the app may be safely exited via the BACK or HOME keys.
* While monitoring is active/enabled, the app will check the battery state at a user-selectable polling interval and set the LED state as specified.
* To exit the BattMonX UI but continue monitoring, use the BACK or the HOME key--the app's service logic will continue monitoring the battery state in the background.
* To discontinue monitoring, recall or re-launch the app and press the "Stop Monitoring and Exit" button.
* Version 1.6 and higher now allows BattMonX to work alongside SMS text notifications. After viewing the text message or clearing the notification, BattMonX will resume battery state monitoring at the start of the next polling interval. Version 1.8 of the app implements a new strategy to make the app much more responsive (30 seconds or less) to SMS notifications.
* To have the app automatically monitor the battery state after a reboot, enable the "Set on Boot" option in the second menu page.
* Use the "Display Current Settings" menu item to see app's current state and settings.
* Use of the low-battery indicator is optional. If enabled however, it will take precedence over all other settings (i.e., as long as the current battery percentage full is less than or equal to the low-battery threshold, the low-battery action will be taken and used regardless of the other charging or discharging settings).
* This app does NOT require root; requires minimal permissions; uses very little CPU and system resources. Version 1.8 does include some new experimental features that require root such as the "LED Always On" feature to enable turning the LED on while the screen is on (not available on a stock Droid X).
* If you use a task killer, be sure to exclude the BattMonX app.
* You should also be aware that many phones turn OFF the LED when turning the screen on or off. The app should re-light the LED when/if appropriate at the top of the next polling interval. Additionally, Android will suspend non-system app processing when the screen is turned off. This might cause BattMonX to not be able to update the LED status while the screen is off since it (and all other apps) are not being given CPU cycles for processing. When the screen is turned back on or an SMS text message is received, the app should wake-up and resume updating the LED status as normal.
EXPERIMENTAL FEATURES
Version 1.8 brings some new experimental features to BattMonX:
- An "LED is always ON" (for rooted phones only) to light the LED while the screen is on (normally, at least for the Droid X) the LED is only display while the screen is off. This experimental feature bypasses the notification API and updates the LED notification's brightness files directly. If you use this feature with the set-on-boot option, be sure that you tell the SuperUser app to "remember" the "allow" setting so that the app will resume expected monitoring (otherwise, the app will automatically turn off the "LED is always ON" setting). Also, there is currently no "blink" functionality available when the "LED is always ON" setting is used.
- I have included an LED Color Tester to allow you to test your own phone's LED color display ability. Note: use the menu's "Current Settings" option to display which LED colors your phone supports that the app has auto-identified for you (scroll to the bottom in the "Miscellaneous" section). If your phone is not rooted, you'll have to suspend monitoring first and turn your screen off to see the results of your color test. If your phone is rooted and you've enabled the "LED is always ON" setting, you'll be able to see the results of your color test immediately while the screen is on.
- I've included an option "Locate Battery / LED Files" option to explicitly locate and display the battery state directory, LED notification directory, and supported LED colors. For non-Motorola Droid-class phones, this function is performed automatically after first install (and is not necessary (but harmless) for Motorola Droid-class phones).
PERMISSIONS
- BattMonX monitors for the receipt of SMS message notifications (android.permission.RECEIVE_SMS) for the purpose of stepping-aside when an SMS text arrives so that the SMS notification (i.e., blinking green LED) can be displayed. No actual SMS messages are read--the app only receives the SMS broadcast action.
- The app also receives a notification of when the phone has rebooted (android.permission.RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED) for the purpose of restarting the battery state monitoring automatically after a reboot. You can enable or disable this feature in the menu (Preferences / Settings -> Set On Boot (checked or un-checked)).
- BattMonX uses the android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE to create a temporary file on the /sdcard containing the list of files in the /sys/devices/platform directory structure in order to automatically identify the battery state (status and capacity) and LED notification (<led-color>/brightness) files.

v1.3 just published: now supports set-on-boot feature!
Just a quick thread bump to let everyone know that I've updated the app to version 1.3 that now includes a set-on-boot / run-on-boot option.
Select this option via the menu (menu -> More -> Set on Boot -> select True or False).
Enjoy!
Nice app - will give it a shot
version 1.4 just uploaded to the Market
All,
Just wanted to let everyone know that v1.4 is out and includes the ability to monitor for a low-battery condition.
You can set a percentage threshold at which the LED will be turned on (or not) to a selected color and optionally have it blink.
I've also added five new colors to select from for setting the LED to the various battery states.
Here's the change log:
version 1.4:
* supported optional low-battery status indicator:
- action: none, LED on, LED blink
- threshold: 10%, 20%, 30%, or 40%
- LED color
* supported new LED colors in addition to the original red, green, blue, yellow, and OFF:
- dark orange
- orange
- dark violet
- dark green
- deep sky blue
Cheers!
Thanks! Good app!
v1.6 just uploaded: now works w/SMS text notifications
All,
Just a quick thread-bump to let everyone know about the latest release of the app: version 1.6 now works with SMS text notifications!
So now, you should be able to run the app all of the time and still get notified when a text message comes in.
The timeliness of the seeing the SMS notification is still dependent on the polling interval you are using, but app steps aside when the SMS notification comes in and then resumes when its been acknowledged (by reading the text) or cleared (by the notification pull-down's Clear button).
Please note that the app doesn't actually control the color or blinking status of the SMS text notification, my app just allows it to come in and been seen--so I cannot change its color or behavior (sorry).
I also added the option / ability to make the LEDs blink (or stay on like before) for the charging / discharging / charged state like the functionality I added for the low-battery condition in v1.4.
Anyway, I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday!
Enjoy the app and its recent changes--I very much appreciate everyone's feedback and support!
By the way, I am going to try to move all of the configuration stuff currently in the menus to the "shared preferences" settings (that will look like the Settings configuration menu we all know and love).
I wonder if it's at all possible to notify of a possible wake lock?

Wow! Thanks for melting my brain ... after reading through this (http://source.android.com/porting/power_management.html#androidPowerWakeLocks).
Didn't know too much about wake locks before this (or even afterwards, lol).
Interesting idea...not sure if I could monitor for these (there is no obvious broadcast action event that is sent-out for wake-locks that I could listen for).
Thanks for the suggestion...I'll keep this in mind for the future though.
Sorry, I was thinking if it could notify of low battery then it might be possible to add a feature that would notify high voltage discharge while screen was off. Since roms should under volt while the screen is off. Maybe a feature our something but I may not fully understand it

v1.7 just uploaded to Market (very useful fixes and improvements)
version 1.7 changes include:
- added strategy to auto-recover from Android auto-killing the app's service; should make the app much more stable and without unwanted shutdowns
- replaced multiple menu settings w/standard Settings/Preferences menu item
- dynamically determine battery status directory (I did this to see if the app would work on more phones (with mixed success); should allow for users that don't see that the app was written for the Droid X to at least see if it will work on their phone (does not appear to work on a stock HTC Evo 4G, HTC Droid Eris))
- re-instituted screen lock to portrait mode to prevent orientation change from causing FCs
- fixed integer parsing issue causing some reported crashes (probably just experienced by non-Droid X phones)
- added option for 3 minute polling-interval
- added larger range for low-battery percentage threshold
- fixed issue where LED would not blink when charging
Anyway, if you have any issues, comments, questions, etc., please contact me at [email protected].
Cheers and have a great New Year!
Is it possible to add an option so the app stops monitoring when the battery is fully charged?

Sure...but let me make sure I totally understand... Would you want to stop monitoring and exit or stop lighting the LED when charged? (I'd have to keep monitoring to see that its still charged).
By the way, are you rooted? I've been testing a version this past weekend that will light the LED while the screen is on (only for rooted phones, I'm afraid).
edit: sorry, I do see that you are rooted...cool you are going to like the next version.
I'm also testing a "Suspend" checkbox on the main screen so you can pause the display of the LED and monitoring while its checked. This is kind of a preliminary step towards being able to set a scheduled "turn off LED" time and duration (i.e., for at night when you don't want to see the LED lit).
The next version will also be much more responsive towards things like SMS/text notifications (the app won't always have to wait until the top of the next polling interval to "see" when some events like SMS messages coming in or preferences being changed--this will allow you to have longer polling-intervals without loss of functionality).
Let me know...I'm always looking for new ideas.
Cheers!

v1.8 just published to the Market
All,
I've just published version 1.8 to the Market and updated the first post with information and screenshots... Lots of new features and improvements. Change log for 1.8 includes:
- supported new experimental features:
* ability to keep LED on while the screen is on (root only)
* support white LED color when used with the "LED is Always ON" experimental (root-only) feature/setting
- updated w/better strategy for dynamically locating battery state and LED notification files to TRY to support non-Motorola Droid phones
- added 'Suspend' feature to turn off LED and pause battery status monitoring until resumed (un-checked)
- added strategy to make app more timely/responsive to SMS text notifications and preference/setting changes
- fixed set-on-boot and charging-color preference mis-match and other minor preference/settings issues (this was causing a few folks issues...if you still have an issue, try an un-install and fresh re-install--this will clear-out the saved preferences)
- supported amber LED color in addition to the original red/green/blue LED colors (for phones that support an amber LED color)
Anyway, this version should be much more stable and responsive than the prior versions (although v1.7 was pretty solid, ).
Enjoy, and please visit https://sites.google.com/site/scaryalienware/battmonx for full details and screen shots. Shoot me an email at [email protected] for any issues, comments, questions, etc.
Cheers!
Nice app.
One small problem, running on a Milestone with CM6, every time I try to access the low battery settings, it force closes.
I've sent a crash log (using the report option when it force closes), hope it helps.

Jason,
Thank you very much for both the feedback and the crash report (I'll take a look at it in a sec...).
You are my first Milestone user as far as I know...(cool!).
I don't have any idea what could be up wit the low-battery logic--there's nothing really special w/regard to that.... I'll get back with you as soon as I can.
Cheers!

Jason,
I sent you a PM about the crash report--couldn't find anything that directly referenced my code, so I'm thinking that its related to the nested preference menus. Let me know about exactly what you were setting for the low-battery configuration (or if it was just launching or exiting the low-battery settings that caused the issue). If I have to, I'll move that menu option one level back/up and see if that helps (I can send you a test .apk if you are willing).
Cheers!
Thanks for the quick reply Scary Alien.
I go to preferences, click 'set led colours and action', then scroll to bottom, click 'low battery settings' and it immediately force quits.
I'll PM you me email for the .apk
Thanks

Thanks for your hard work!

Yes this would be great! I can't buy things on Play Store.
I ve used it but sometimes it just picks up the phone while in my pocket lol. Any sale(discount) out for this ?
Galaxy Note manages this situation itself fine:
screen goes off when you pick up the call and put phone to ear, and it goes on when you remove (without hanging the phone) if you need to turn on loudspeaker or something else
accidental call pickup probability on GNote is practicaly zero: you have to swipe to pickup call...
otherwise, I can lock my phone (and turn of display) by pushing power button, easily, if not, screen goes off after specified time
so for this app gives few second benefits on GNote, maybe for other phone its great, but on note I think it is unnecessary (its just my opinion)
I bought the pro version. Nice one. My Device Galaxy N7000. Works as said. One suggestion is when In screen Off optin/prefernces only 'Cover and Hold to Screen OFF' with one second Time out and in all setting Override Power button checked on. Now when the Power/Home button is pressed twice, the Screen shall be on. Very good. My suggestion is if the gap between the two press is more than specified time (say same as selected in Timeout), the First pressing of Power/Home button should be ignored. and similarly if the gap between the second and third press is more than a specified time, the second press shall be ignored, and so on.. ( I could not email to Sailesh/Developer because outlook is not my email client. thanks)
I have the same pro version as well. It works when i put the mobile close to my ear..but when there is another waiting call while am talking to somone in call, it picks up the waiting call automatically and held the first call. Strange, i have tried all the settings..but nothing worked out
am using flip cover for my note, sometimes it picks the calls automatically.

Found bug:
When i turn off screen with wave and when i turn off screen while screen is in lock mode it turns screen again on .. ??
And how do i prevent that the screen turns on in pocket ?
Okay i fixed it with automatically turning on the screen by just waving my hand 3 times and then it worked normal..
Oh and in the pocket the screen off, sometimes when i put it out, it turns on the screen, but thats normal cuz it recognizes something is moving near the sensor)
Awesome !! :- ))

[APP]AMOLED Notification Light "NotifyBuddy"

Original Thread : https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/themes/app-amoled-notification-light-t3943715
So I was annoyed not having an LED notification light on oneplus 6t so I tried to make one of my own.
As OP6T has amoled display whenever a desired notification comes the app brings in a black screen with notification LED looking animation.
Though this is tested on OP6T, it should be working for most Android Oreo and later phones.
To use it:
Install App.
Disable Ambient Display and any battery optimisation for the app.
Give notification access permission.
Select apps you want notifications for, by choosing a color (Only apps you set a color to enables LEDs).
Note: 1. On successfully selecting a color for an app the text in which the App name is written should change to that color
2. Don't enable the LED for the "Phone App" as it will interfere when an incoming call is coming! Will fix this in next build
Thats it.
Note: To turn off the LED and to unlock phone double tap anywhere on the screen.
Also on pressing power button once the LED stops and on pressing it again it will bring you to lock screen.
App now available on Play Store, please rate and share if you liked the app.
Play Store Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xander.android.notifybuddy
Working Video: https://youtu.be/vFKiHS_ZD-k
If the app is not working check whether the Notification Service is running under Developer Option > Running Services, this service is required for the app to work as intended.
If it is not running after various troubleshoot measures, maybe send the logs.
Changelog:
Implemented burn in protection
Fixed proximity sensor bug
Switch enables LED with default color
Added search functionality
Now App list is sorted in alphabetical order
Fixed power button
Added settings for changing time interval and stop timer
Major bug fixes
Added System Apps
Added a switch to turn on/off notification LED

It's available to download via Google Play & XDA Labs, the labs version can not be updated from the play store.
Details:
Volume Control Panel comes in 2 flavours, Free & Pro, the pro version offering a much wider selection of customisation's.
Volume Control Panel Pro is designed to work as a replacement to the system volume control overlay or along side it, with multiple customisation options and all 6 system volume controls instantly available at a click (Call & Cast are only shown when needed) with the extra added bonus of a screen brightness control.

Play Store Link (Pro): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=leedroiddevelopments.volumepanel
XDA Labs: https://labs.xda-developers.com/store/app/leedroiddevelopments.volumepanelads
Notes:
Notification Volume
- If the Notification Panel is enabled and splitting ring & notification is supported by the system, ring & notification are independent, if the notification panel is hidden, both stream's are tied together and follow ring volume.
PLEASE NOTE: Button Mapping apps such as Button Mapper or Bixby Button Re-mapper may interfere if volume button customisation is enabled.
Required Permissions (Feature Linked):
* Accessibility - Detect volume +/- key presses.
* Do Not Disturb Access.
* Notification Listener Access - Detect audio casting.
* Overlay Permissions - Show the panel as a system overlay.
* Usage Access: Detect the presence of excluded applications.
If you would like to contribute to translating the app, please drop me an email and fork my git: https://github.com/LeeDroid-/Volume_Panel_Translations
Despite the generic Android system warning for all accessibility services, The Volume Control Panel Accessibility service does not capture or store any information, it simply listens for volume +/- button presses.

How To Guide [GUIDE] Device Settings Menu | Part IV - S Pen, Advanced Features, Maintenance, Apps

Device Settings Menu Guide, Tips & Discussions
Part 4 - Advanced features, Device maintenance, Apps
If you're new to this series or want to see the index, please read the Introductory Post first.
Advanced features
Link to Windows: ENABLED!! You can text, get notifications, call, see phone photos and in fact run Apps on your phone via your computer! View features here.
Call & text on other devices: You can make calls and text using your Watch, Tab or Speaker and they are routed via your main device. Thus, if you are logged into the same Samsung account on your Watch, you can call using it even if you are not in range of your primary phone and still use the phone mobile plan. For this, your devices need to be connected to the internet. Disable Use Wi-Fi only to use this feature even if your primary phone is on Mobile Data.
Continue apps on other devices: You can copy on one device and paste on the other that is logged into the same Samsung Account. Since this feature is enabled by default, be careful if you are signed it to the same account on your kid's device and do not want to let them see your copied text or pictures. It also supports apps (few for now) that can be synced to other device's recents.
Samsung DeX: Take the powerhouse with you! You can use your phone to get a desktop-like experience on your TV and PC screens. You can use it to make PPTs, manage photos on the device and endless possibilities. Your PC or TV becomes a desktop with your phone as the CPU! It works both wirelessly and by using an HDMI to USB C wire.
Android Auto: Must-have for car owners. My car, for now, does not support Android Auto, so can anyone add something to this?
Quick Share: You can make shareable links to share large files and even use Wi-Fi direct to share with nearby devices. I use the former much to avoid using my GDrive storage while sharing.
Labs: I have enabled both Multi window for all apps (if apps can use the feature, why not?) and Full screen in Split screen view (I will use split-screen rarely and when I do, I want full real estate).
Side key: When you Press and hold the power key, Wake Bixby is set to default and this is why you were struggling to find Power off menu in the beginning. You could still see the power off options in the Quick panel and also do it by pressing side and volume down keys together. Since they have now got rid of the Bixby button, I choose to get used to this since I power off my device rarely. Quick launch camera with Double press is great for the photographer in you. Pay with Samsung Pay is accessible by swiping up from the bottom of the lock-screen too! Open app will require unlock anyways!
Motion and gestures:
Lift to wake: Enabled since I pick it up mostly to see notifications and with fast unlock, it is a breeze to unlock device! Can anyone comment on the battery usage?
Double tap to turn on screen: Enabled. Useful when I just need to check notifications.
Double tap to turn off screen: Enabled. No need to go for physical buttons. If you use launchers like Nova, you can enable this feature in their settings.
Keep screen on while viewing: Would want to keep this ON sometimes (maybe a quick tile?) but sceptical about battery usage!
Alert when phone picked up: If enabled, you can purposely lift the phone (or when you lift to take it) just to check if you missed some call or messages.
Mute with gestures: Mute the annoying calls by just putting your hand above the screen or just turning your phone. The latter becomes a reflex after a few days!
Palm swipe to capture: Might be useful if you don't want to hit buttons. Enabled only because it does not interfere with any other gestures or accidental touches.
One-handed mode: A much-needed feature when you're on-the-go. If you hide the navigation bar, you cannot check 'Button' mode anymore. OHM is also a shortcut in my Edge panel that is easily accessible from one hand.
Bixby Routines: I have used much of Google Home Routines, Alexa, Samsung Routines and Tasker so I need to see about this.
Smart suggestions: You get suggestions with Samsung Keyboard, Widget, Calendar, Reminders and Messages based on the activity you are doing or what you receive from the other side (actually what is visible on your screen).
Screenshots and screen recording:
Show toolbar after capturing: You can scroll capture, crop and draw, add tags and share the screenshot as soon as you take it! Can be disabled when you need to take bulk screenshots since the toolbar will come in between.
Delete after sharing from toolbar: Storage saver! Enabled it since when I share a screenshot, it is mostly for one-time.
Hide status and navigation bars: Switched to Enabled! Yes, I don't want to show them. Disable from here when you want to take screenshots for embedding them into phone screens.
Format: JPG since I mostly share them. Switch to PNG for greater quality when you need to!
Screen recording: Choose if you want to record Sound from the mic while screen recording, set Video quality, set Selfie Video size and choose if you want to show taps and touches (useful when sharing a guide).
Video call effects: Just like Google Meet, you can hide your background and use a clearer voice. Works with Duo only for now.
Game Launcher: Optimizes and enhances your gameplay. You can also hide your games from appearing in the menu while they are categorized by Game Launcher.
Video brightness [Formerly Video Enhancer]: Makes colour vibrant and increases brightness while you are on chosen Video apps. Make sure to disable them for editing apps so that you get idea of the real colours and brightness of the video.
Dual Messenger: You can use two separate accounts for compatible apps (WhatsApp, Facebook) and restrict your contacts for the second ones. Suggested in case you have multiple accounts. You can even Use separate contact list to make your other WhatsApp number refer not to your main contact list. For more James Bond feel, use 'Secure Folder'. Delete all my data in Menu when you want to flush history.
[Discontinued] Finger sensor gestures: Open/close notification panel or launch Samsung Pay using the fingerprint sensor. Make this a habit. Looks cool.
[Discontinued] Device assistance app: Set to Google. Explore settings for the DAA - it was really cool to see Hindi (India) as an option there. Analyzing on-screen text/images is a very useful feature. Read the guide here and here on how to use Google Assistant like a pro.
[Discontinued] Multi window: One of the best features and legacy of Samsung and for Note, it's a must-use one. By default, you can use SSV (Split screen view) by selecting it for the required app in recents. 'Use Recents button' is much faster. 'Pop-up view action' can interfere if you generally drag down the notification panel from near the corners (enabled for me).
[Discontinued] Direct Share: Helps you save an extra tap while sharing something. Ninja guide here.
[Discontinued] Touch sensitivity: In case you use screen protectors or live in Antarctica (gloves), Enabled. Disabled for me.
Advanced features > S Pen
This section is exclusive to the former Note and now the S Ultra series so you should definitely give some time exploring it.
Air actions: Displays the availability of the S Pen and its charging level. Configure Pen button actions for each compatible App and master control. I've tweaked it a little bit to make 'Scroll up/down' for Chrome and 'Single press' to 'Skip' while 'Double press' to 'Play/Pause' for Music. You can always tap 'Reset S Pen' in Menu in case you want to get back the default settings.
S Pen unlock: If enabled, you can unlock your phone with your S Pen in case it was taken out while the device was unlocked. This helps you to stay with your S Pen and get back to work on your device if its screen turns off. In case you've enabled it, please keep an eye on your S Pen.
Screen off memo: Very useful when enabled. Just take the S Pen out while the device is unlocked and start solving math problems, writing notes or just passing your time with the oddly satisfying scratching noise.
Quick create notes: Holding the S Pen button, tap the screen twice and you can start taking a note. Looks cool if nothing, right?
S Pen to text: You can now use your S Pen in input fields and convert your handwriting to text. Even after they are converted, you can use S Pen to modify the text (insert or delete word or space) with marks defined in Learn how to edit with your S Pen.
Air view: Very useful features. Review them. 'Learn about S Pen features' on the bottom or watch this 30-min video.
Show air command icon: I don't like any over-the-screen icons so have disabled it. You can always open the Shortcuts menu by tapping the S Pen button while it's near the screen. I've also set 'Open Air Command' 'when S Pen is removed'.
Warn if S Pen is left behind: Works when the screen is off since if it's on, you probably be using the remote feature.
Sound; Vibration: Enabled since I don't like accidents. 'Oper Air command' in when S Pen is removed also helps in this case.

Battery and device care
Info: Add a home screen or edge panel shortcut to it as it's going to be really useful. Tap 'Optimize Now' once in a while. It includes virus scanning, memory cleaning, storage cleaning and battery optimization. Read below for more on these.
Battery:
Battery Usage: Do review this once in a while in order to identify culprits. 'Refresh' for real-time monitoring. In an ideal case, all of your compatible apps should be set to 'Optimise battery usage'. In case any of them not working fine in the background and you need them to, disable the optimization for the app. You can click an app (after clicking the displayed graphs) and then Limit usage to put it on sleep or deep sleep. This is permanent until you change, right?
Power saving: You get this option in Quick Bar too. It turns off AOD and 5G while limiting CPU to 70% and decreases the brightness by 10%. If you enable Limit apps and Home screen, you will get a dark theme with only a few selected apps. Do this when you are very low on battery and need it to pick up calls only.
Background usage limits: Enable Put unused apps to sleep so that your device regularly puts apps to sleep. Review the Sleeping apps and Deep sleeping apps if you are not getting notifications from an app. You can also manually add apps here for those you know you only use rarely and don't need notifications or background usage. For apps you never want to kill, put them in Never sleeping apps. Many apps would tell you to put them in here. Unless it is necessary, try them without putting them here.
Wireless power sharing: Enable it only when needed. You can skip taking the charger of your watch and charge it from your device! This is called Reverse Wireless Charging.
More battery settings:
Adaptive battery: How is it different from Put unused apps to sleep?
Processing speed: Default is optimised and should be good enough. You can turn your phone into a beast with High and Maximum modes.
Show battery percentage: Using only a simple battery icon will always confuse you about the real juice left. Enable it!
Show charging information: If enabled, this will show Charging information even when AOD is off. I like it.
Fast charging: It is for 15W adapters. Disabled by default and this is the reason you are not seeing Fast Charging text while using an older but Fast charger. You can keep it disabled if you charge overnight from a 15W charger.
Super fast charging: It is for 25W or 45W chargers.
Fast wireless charging: For wireless charging which is already slow, so enabled!
Protect battery: For usual days, you can keep this enabled. Limits your battery to charge up to 85% only which is very good for you battery health
Storage: Love to see 512 GB here but only when it's the denominator. User Data is also categorized so you can review and remove files of different types. 'Storage settings' summarizes device storage and you can tap the items to get to respective apps or apps settings. You also get to see the Large files and empty the Recycle bin of Gallery and Messages.
Memory:
Tap 'Clean Now' to clear your RAM. Likewise, for battery, these apps may appear here again. However, you might not need to clear your RAM anytime on Android.
Excluded apps: These apps never go out of RAM.
RAM Plus: SWAP finally! Since you cannot decrease it further from 2 GB, why not use 8 GB then! You will get a total RAM of 20 GB (with 12 GB RAM model)!! Restart required.
Device Security: The virus scanning is powered by McAfee. Since it's disabled by default, enabling it never hurts.
Software update is here.
Diagnostics checks your sensors, touch screen, ports and more. This should be the first thing to do when you face any issues or want to make a report on the phone to send.
Menu > Automation:
Auto optimize daily: Enabled at 10 PM because Sleep tracking apps are working in the night. You can choose to close apps to free memory if you need everything clean.
Auto restart at set times: Enable if you are obsessed about that restart feeling! I won't do it because it would clear all the notifications that I would have missed.
Adaptive power saving: Enabled, let us see how it works. Any experience?
Auto scan for malware: Why not?
Apps
All of your apps settings including Usage, Battery, Storage (Clear Data/Cache), Uninstalling and Force stopping, Notifications settings, Permissions, Defaults and Version/App details in store. I use 'Sort by size' with 'Show system apps' to occasionally review the apps taking the most storage. Change your 'Default apps', 'App permissions' and 'Special access' in the Menu. You can set 'set default apps automatically' as well. In 'Set as default', I've disabled 'Open links in app' even if they're not installed since I get annoyed when I have not installed an app because I want to browse on Chrome only (reduce usage of separate apps whenever possible). Read about 'Instant Apps' here (you can use these even without installing them). In case you mess up with the defaults and notifications, tap 'Reset app preferences'.
