Charging is working but usb mtp doesn't work...! - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I connect my n5 using data cable, it only goes into charging mode & doesn't even detect the cable attached.!
Same thing in TWRP recovery mode.:crying:
can this be resolved by replacing the back panel chip which houses the charging port?

Have you tried connecting it with a different cable?

when ur phone is on try swiping down notification bar and change the usb attach mode to MTP from charging or refer to my thread

Thank you for suggestions guys..
But I think the port may be fried since it heats up like crazy within seconds of plugging to charge though the charging doesn't work.
I am thinking of replacing the port along the flex cable.
Anyone has idea how much it costs Mumbai, India.???
A local shop said 1150/- rupee in my local area...

Yup that's the cost when I asked also! In Pune!

Tablet won't charge or detect usb, but ODIN works. N8013

Hey guys, need help.
Tablet won't charge, I was only able to turn it on by manually charging the battery to get a little juice to turn it on (took off back cover, hacked up a old usb cable and plugged red to red and black to black).
With the tablet on, USB is not detected on any computer so I can't transfer any files, won't charge via USB, USB 3.0, the stock charger box, or an ipad 5v 2.1a charger box.
However, going into download mode, ODIN detects the tablet and I was able to flash kitkat to test if that would solve anything, and it doesn't. So does that rule out a bad charging port?
I can leave it on the charger for days and it won't do anything. Any tips? Already tried cleaning the port you plug it in.
Bump
Have you tried a different usb cable? original Samsung cable? Also try this trick...open phone dialler then type
*#0808# then make sure its in MTP mode before reboot selected. Good luck dude!

Help figuring out what's broken with my OnePlus One

Hello everyone,
A couple of weeks ago my USB data connection on my OnePlus One has stopped working.
This means that no connection is even detected on any computer.
This is not a driver issue as the computer doesn't even notice anything has plugged in.
I think it's not a software/ROM issue because the same applies to fastboot mode and recovery mode - no data connection, no "usb plugged in" sound on any computer, no device showing up.
It's also not a cable issue, as the same cable works on other OnePlus One's and I've tried many different known-to-be-working cables.
More facts:
1) When plugging to a computer USB port - the battery icon shows the charging (lightning) symbol for a half a second and disappears and it won't charge. The computer, of course, doesn't see a usb device plugged.
2) When connecting to an AC charger - it charges just fine.
3) I already tried replacing the dock connector and flat cable unit with a new one - did not solve the issue, which means the dock connector is fine.
Any insight on this will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

By dock connector, you mean the USB port? Typically, this issue arises when the pins in the USB port get damaged. I don't know how the rest works out, but if that particular section of pins have to communicate throughout the rest of the motherboard, perhaps the trail responsible for that may have somehow gotten damaged. This is a clueless theory, someone with more electrical/motherboard experience can verify this.
What I do know is that once the micro USB port has been replaced on the phone, the issue should be fixed. It happened to an S3 I still have and I got it replaced by a friend. Sadly, it happened to me at the wrong time since i had wiped the entire OS and internal storage and was relying on my USB OTG cable and a flash drive which contained a rare rom called Sonic Open Kang Project (SOKP).
DO NOTE that this has also been an issue with me on the software side of certain devices. I uave had practically every flagship device out there and have come across a point where this happens on both stock and custom roms. My Optimus G did it on custom roms, and my Nexus 7 2012 occasionally on stock. There were other devices I cannot remember but sometimes factory resets or replacing the rom helps. However, you did state that the result is still the same on fastboot/recovery, so this seems to be more on the hardware side.
I replaced the USB connector (including it's flex cable) entirely. Did not solve the issue.
What else could be wrong?
try again

Try another computer. See if you can get any response from adb.

I tried a lot of different computers and cables. None of them detect a USB connection.
Again, to clarify - they don't even SEE a usb device has been plugged in.
recovery?

You running a custom recovery? If so, see if you can toggle the mtp on/off reboot with each back to recovery. Use the tools to check the filesystem, permissions, etc.
Could pins have damaged?
Well, I did replace the USB connector with a new one, so if pins are damaged it's gotta be on the motherboard side, and I can think of no reason why that would ever happen.
As for recovery, I'm running TWRP and I'm not sure I understand what you meant I should try. Can you elaborate?
Thanks

USB Device not recognized / No fast charge

So I've had my S7 for around two months now, and all of a sudden fast charging just stopped working. Thought, oh, must be using the wrong cable (have loads of them micro USB cables floating around)
Now I'm certain I'm using the official Samsung fast charge plug and cable that came with the phone, and still no fast charge. When I try to plug into my Windows 10 Desktop or Laptop I have a message that says the device can't be recognized
Phone has already been rooted and flashed with a custom rom. Didn't think that was the issue as it wouldn't even show the mounted storage in TWRP, or identify the phone in ODIN.
Now I've flashed back to the stock rom that I made a backup of when I had the phone, and I still have the same problem!! Can't access internal / external storage using the supplied USB cable and can't fast charge.
I'm thinking the USB port on the device is just knackard.. but really, I've looked after it so well I fail to see how this could happen, unless it's a common fault.
Might just get a wireless fast charger, but do you guys have anything else I can try before giving up on the USB connectivity?
Cheers
try to connect to a different pc, if same it means your usb connector is faulty
Sounds more like the cable is bad tbh, you won't get fast charge from a PC USB port, only from the Samsung charger
But if the device isn't recognised by the PC, and won't fast charge from the charger, the common thing between them is the cable
Possible it's the phone USB port, but more likely the cable is bad
Afaik certain cables can not fast charge either, so chances are the ones you have lying around that are not the official cable can not support it
Genuine Samsung USB cable is white with the USB port symbol on both ends and the phone end has two small ridges to grip when inserting and removing it, should help identify it
Yep I'm using the official cable and fast charger
I'm trying to fast charge via the fast charger and not USB. Only trying USB to access the internal / external storage.
Tried on my desktop and laptop and both have the same issue where my old HTC m8 connects without any issue.

To fast charge I've tried the original Samsung cable with the fast charge plug.
To connect to the PC I've used x3 different cables that all work with my HTC one m8. With all of them I get device not recognised. Already tried installing Samsung switch and reinstalling drivers which didn't work.

I mean for the HTC, does the Samsung fast charge cable work to connect to the PC?
Does sound possible the phones USB port is faulty if you can't get any connection at all to the PC with multiple cables
Try changing the USB mode in developer options
Networking > Select USB configuration

Yep the genuine Samsung cable works when connecting the htc to the computer.
I've tried enabling USB debugging and switching between charging, MTP, PTP, RNDIS, Audio Source and Midi.. all of them come back with the windows popup

Unfortunately not. Well it's been rooted and flashed so I guess not.
Ordered a wireless fast charger so hopefully that will see me through and WiFi network for file transfers.
I reckon the USB port will need replacing but I'm not really inclined to do that myself.
Just noticed you said you flashed back to stock using a backup you made
Have you tried stock using ODIN and 100% stock files, using CSC to reset?
My dad has a5 2016 with the same issue, and no warranty. I bought flex + connector , replaced it and still nothing. No fast charge ( it takes cca 4hrs to charge it fully ) and no usb connectivity. I gave up on that
@ClowsTyle
Any luck? I seen your recent post in another thread and it sounds like you tried to replace the USB but that didn't work.
I'm having the exact same issue now. Device suddenly stopped fast charging, Windows does not recognize it when plugged into PC. I ordered a new cable to double check and also tried on different computers. I also tried reinstalling drivers, but nothing has worked.
Hi my is doing the same thing no Fast charge and no pc connection, did anybody find out what happen with yours ?
You have to change power ic s535 for s7 edge.
When usb gets moisture power ic will damage.
I have same problem my phone charging 0-100 6hours but ı install notorious kernel and it takes 3 hours it is better than 6 hours
Same Issue
I've had the same issue for the past 3 weeks now and I've tried everything I know...
1. Tested cable and charger with another S7 and they work fine.
2. Factory Reset.
3. Changed the USB port chip.
4. Turned on "Low Battery Dump".
So far, the issue hasn't changed.
was this issue solved?
I´m having same issues whit my galaxy s7 active, I can not fast charge my phone no matter what cable I use, then noticed that evrytime I plug it to any computer it says the devicescan not be recognized, I´m about to buy a new charging port and install it, but I want to make shure this is not a software related issue.
I´ve tried several cables and several laptops/ pc´s
I´ve factory reseted my device and turned on low battery dump, wiped cache partition, and problem still there...
The charger could be faulty/damaged did you try a different charger?

ok bro, if you try using orignal cable and also not working with you so my be there is a hardware problem in your charger try another one , if not work also so the port of mobile may have problem take it to service center to check it
i think apps running in background might be consuming more power so try it in safemode or maybe the cable is faulty and when u connect to pc u should get option to connect as mtp in notification panel u can try different kernels if still the issue persist then check the microusb port

Galaxy S7 failing to charge wired or respond to usb input on pc

Having a few issues with an s7, charge port has been replaced (twice as I sent one back thinking that was at fault), charges wirelessly ok but not wired, now I need the wired to connect to pc to restore the phone through Odin.
Any clues, starting to wonder if it's the main board at fault, any wireless methods for connecting and using Odin, phone has a tied account and the gmail acount it's tied to is not known hence needing wired connection to use Odin.
Tried many chargers and cables.
Thanks in advance
mmm i am not sure, but my s7 looks like having the same issue.
tryed to use different cables and restore factory settings. did not work.
so the only way is use external sd card
Currently facing the same issue, but i think i messed with my charging port quite a bit. Now, i can only charge my phone using wireless charging, and i can only transfer files using the external SD card. :/
Very Sad,,,,,, I still have not tried sending it in for repair as i fear that it wont be waterproof anymore. Dont want to risk it.

Do you have any idea about how to make root without cable? I have tried all the one click apps
mmm i wonder, may you tried to install supersu or anything like that trough the default recovery mode? and then install twrp with the app?
open the back cover look on the left under the board there is a connector that plugs in from the usb .
it plugs in from bottom up

Yep that plug just near the antenna and home button flex is firmly home.
Then the only thing I can think of , is hardware problem , you need to replace the USB pin.
( Did you try the old needle in the charging pin trick to remove any dirt inside )
Replaced the charge port flexes which include the usb header twice now.
You say you've tried many chargers and cables, but have you tried a new Genuine Samsung USB cable? I've seen many people on XDA having problems with cheap 3rd party cables when Genuine works fine
