Tablet won't charge or detect usb, but ODIN works. N8013 - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, need help.
Tablet won't charge, I was only able to turn it on by manually charging the battery to get a little juice to turn it on (took off back cover, hacked up a old usb cable and plugged red to red and black to black).
With the tablet on, USB is not detected on any computer so I can't transfer any files, won't charge via USB, USB 3.0, the stock charger box, or an ipad 5v 2.1a charger box.
However, going into download mode, ODIN detects the tablet and I was able to flash kitkat to test if that would solve anything, and it doesn't. So does that rule out a bad charging port?
I can leave it on the charger for days and it won't do anything. Any tips? Already tried cleaning the port you plug it in.

Bump

Have you tried a different usb cable? original Samsung cable? Also try this trick...open phone dialler then type
*#0808# then make sure its in MTP mode before reboot selected. Good luck dude!

USB Mode

Hi,
So I've been trying to get my NS to connect with my MBP. I'm not having any luck. When I connect the USB to my MBP nothing happens and on the NS I've read there should be a USB mode but it doesn't appear. I know its connecting because the NS does charge, but how do I go about transferring files?
Thanks
Works fine for me on my mbp. Plug in, and turn on USB storage through the pull down notification bar and you should see the drive on your desktop.

I've tried that, but when its connected nothing appears on the notification bar on the NS. I don't even see anything mounted on MBP. I can tell its connected because its charging but I can't connect.
Do you guys think it could be the USB cable itself? It allows for charging but it won't detect the storage device.
Its a possibility. Are you using the supplied USB cable? Ive had problems connecting my ipods before due to faulty USB cables.

I'm using a cable that I have for me LG phone. I bought the phone of Ebay, and never got the USB cable
Most likely USB cable.

Okay so I tried the cable with my old phone, it would only charge. Then I put in the SD card and it went into storage mode and showed up on MBP.
This is not happening with my NS. So I doubt its the cable.
Any other suggestions?
Try using different port on the MBP?
I would still try another USB cable. Not all USB cables are made equal. You would be surprised. Borrow a friends. Otherwise try factory clearing or going back to stock on your device if that applies.

I just bought an OEM cable from Ebay. Hopefully that will work. I also reset the phone, tried erasing USB mount no luck.
This isn't a big deal but I would really like to transfer some music from my iTunes.

My usb connect to pc and charge ._.?

Well if i connect my usb to pc it will say its charging...
So it's broken nad i get new one? Only for connecting to pc?
My pc wont even notic it. So its proberly dead.
Atleast charging works!
The tablet needs 15v to charge. A normal PC USB port only pushes around 4-5v. It will charge very slowly. If your tablet is on when connecting to PC and doesn't get recognised you might need a new sync cable.

I'm not sure what your question is...but:
The Transformer can only charge from a computer USB port when the tablet is powered off. Even then, it will charge very slowly.
If your Transformer is not being recognized when you plug it in via usb AND it's powered on, check to make sure your drivers are installed.
Assuming you are running Windows:
Hit Start
Search for Device Manager
In Device Manager, you should see at the top "Asus Android Devices." That's what mine shows anyways. If you have anything listed under "Other Devices", unplug your Transformer and see if these entries under Other Devices disappear. If anything under Other Devices disappears when you unplug your transformer, that means your driver is not properly installed. If that's the case, download PDAnet on your computer and follow it's installation instructions. When PDAnet finishes installing, it will have installed the correct driver for your transformer.
I don't know what else to say until you can clarify your question.
I have like ... 6 Usb ports in the front
The first 3 says its charging.
and other 3 doenst even show a a charge icon on tablet. Nor it say its connect on pc.
So i need new sync cable. Sucks xD.
Update i isntaled pdanet and it did show me the not reconize tf 101 ( device i mena)
but ican fix that.
Thank
now i can install ubuntu
Well i cant fix XD
Okay, not a problem at all. You said you are running Windows XP right?

uh no its not that its the cable problem that i found at a min ago
The green cable is well loose. Accourding to wikia pedia its Data + and white one is data- so thast why i couldnt connect.
The green cable was by a yellow one and i think that cause to recharge at the pc lol
I have no clue where the gren cable Should been. proberly by white one.
Try a new cable then let us know if it works. I would recommend an authentic asus cable just to make sure its the cable you're having issues with, not the tablet.

nothing to do with tab its just the cable.

Charging is working but usb mtp doesn't work...!

When I connect my n5 using data cable, it only goes into charging mode & doesn't even detect the cable attached.!
Same thing in TWRP recovery mode.:crying:
can this be resolved by replacing the back panel chip which houses the charging port?
Have you tried connecting it with a different cable?

when ur phone is on try swiping down notification bar and change the usb attach mode to MTP from charging or refer to my thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/noob-friendly-instruction-ur-pc-t3345512
Thank you for suggestions guys..
But I think the port may be fried since it heats up like crazy within seconds of plugging to charge though the charging doesn't work.
I am thinking of replacing the port along the flex cable.
Anyone has idea how much it costs Mumbai, India.???
A local shop said 1150/- rupee in my local area...
Yup that's the cost when I asked also! In Pune!

USB Device not recognized / No fast charge

So I've had my S7 for around two months now, and all of a sudden fast charging just stopped working. Thought, oh, must be using the wrong cable (have loads of them micro USB cables floating around)
Now I'm certain I'm using the official Samsung fast charge plug and cable that came with the phone, and still no fast charge. When I try to plug into my Windows 10 Desktop or Laptop I have a message that says the device can't be recognized
Phone has already been rooted and flashed with a custom rom. Didn't think that was the issue as it wouldn't even show the mounted storage in TWRP, or identify the phone in ODIN.
Now I've flashed back to the stock rom that I made a backup of when I had the phone, and I still have the same problem!! Can't access internal / external storage using the supplied USB cable and can't fast charge.
I'm thinking the USB port on the device is just knackard.. but really, I've looked after it so well I fail to see how this could happen, unless it's a common fault.
Might just get a wireless fast charger, but do you guys have anything else I can try before giving up on the USB connectivity?
Cheers
try to connect to a different pc, if same it means your usb connector is faulty
Sounds more like the cable is bad tbh, you won't get fast charge from a PC USB port, only from the Samsung charger
But if the device isn't recognised by the PC, and won't fast charge from the charger, the common thing between them is the cable
Possible it's the phone USB port, but more likely the cable is bad
Afaik certain cables can not fast charge either, so chances are the ones you have lying around that are not the official cable can not support it
Genuine Samsung USB cable is white with the USB port symbol on both ends and the phone end has two small ridges to grip when inserting and removing it, should help identify it
Yep I'm using the official cable and fast charger
I'm trying to fast charge via the fast charger and not USB. Only trying USB to access the internal / external storage.
Tried on my desktop and laptop and both have the same issue where my old HTC m8 connects without any issue.

To fast charge I've tried the original Samsung cable with the fast charge plug.
To connect to the PC I've used x3 different cables that all work with my HTC one m8. With all of them I get device not recognised. Already tried installing Samsung switch and reinstalling drivers which didn't work.

I mean for the HTC, does the Samsung fast charge cable work to connect to the PC?
Does sound possible the phones USB port is faulty if you can't get any connection at all to the PC with multiple cables
Try changing the USB mode in developer options
Networking > Select USB configuration

Yep the genuine Samsung cable works when connecting the htc to the computer.
I've tried enabling USB debugging and switching between charging, MTP, PTP, RNDIS, Audio Source and Midi.. all of them come back with the windows popup

Unfortunately not. Well it's been rooted and flashed so I guess not.
Ordered a wireless fast charger so hopefully that will see me through and WiFi network for file transfers.
I reckon the USB port will need replacing but I'm not really inclined to do that myself.
Just noticed you said you flashed back to stock using a backup you made
Have you tried stock using ODIN and 100% stock files, using CSC to reset?
My dad has a5 2016 with the same issue, and no warranty. I bought flex + connector , replaced it and still nothing. No fast charge ( it takes cca 4hrs to charge it fully ) and no usb connectivity. I gave up on that
@ClowsTyle
Any luck? I seen your recent post in another thread and it sounds like you tried to replace the USB but that didn't work.
I'm having the exact same issue now. Device suddenly stopped fast charging, Windows does not recognize it when plugged into PC. I ordered a new cable to double check and also tried on different computers. I also tried reinstalling drivers, but nothing has worked.
Hi my is doing the same thing no Fast charge and no pc connection, did anybody find out what happen with yours ?
You have to change power ic s535 for s7 edge.
When usb gets moisture power ic will damage.
I have same problem my phone charging 0-100 6hours but ı install notorious kernel and it takes 3 hours it is better than 6 hours
Same Issue
I've had the same issue for the past 3 weeks now and I've tried everything I know...
1. Tested cable and charger with another S7 and they work fine.
2. Factory Reset.
3. Changed the USB port chip.
4. Turned on "Low Battery Dump".
So far, the issue hasn't changed.
was this issue solved?
I´m having same issues whit my galaxy s7 active, I can not fast charge my phone no matter what cable I use, then noticed that evrytime I plug it to any computer it says the devicescan not be recognized, I´m about to buy a new charging port and install it, but I want to make shure this is not a software related issue.
I´ve tried several cables and several laptops/ pc´s
I´ve factory reseted my device and turned on low battery dump, wiped cache partition, and problem still there...
The charger could be faulty/damaged did you try a different charger?
---------- Post added at 06:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:40 PM ----------
Dial *#08# and select the first option (mtp and another option i am on a custom rom that seems to not have the *#0808# setting
I also have the same issue with my phone the phone charges but not recognize and also tried to change settings on phone and nothing? And my other samsung phone works and nothing wrong with USB tried to install smansung drivers on PC and still same issue.
I tried a different USB and nothing works and different ports on my comp.
My ports works with my other samsung phone so not sure why not with the S7?
Is the USB faulty?

otg access to usb and charge tablet at same time

hI everyone in regard to otg using Usb and charging tablet at same time, I have a fusion5 tablet and a usb hub the kind with 3 usb hubs and a power in with a micro usb male plug. and a switch for otg or charge. Ive tried using a potentiometer to find the magic resistor value between pin 4 (the id ) and pin 5 ground of the micro plug.
(thought i had it at one point but not sure) as could play a avi file while charging) However now most of the timee either accesses the usb or charges, I can get it to do both , but stops charging after 8 seconds.
Anybody happen to know if a specific resistance value works for both charging and otg.
I have seen another schematic but havent tried it.
It doesn't sound like the micro usb otg cable to me. I built one without a resistor and mine works just fine. Have a look at your usb settings. Some devices require you select your choice: usb otg or charging.

Thanks How do I look at my usb settings?. I think I may not have the proper resistor setting as will currently provide power to usb and charge at same time for a few seconds then stops charging.. I turn resistance up it will charge , turn it down and will allow access to usb.. i think have to find that magic number inbetween.

Depending on which phone and version of Android you have, the most recent versions of Android have the USB settings under Developers Options.
The USB OTG charging works differently from phone to phone. Sometimes you must plug your charger cable and the USB device you want to connect to into the OTG cable prior to plugging the OTG cable into your phone. This way the phone detects charging and device.

Yes that is what I have been doing . In developer options under Usb default , no charge option there, only file transfer, USB tEThering, MID, PTP ,and o data transfer
I thanks. However i believe the default USB option is charge as thats what it is when i plug in USB to a powered cable.
. As I said jt works for A short time using USB and charging at same time with resistor between 45K and 68k
then either stops charging and continues usb or keeps charging but gives usb errrors or cant access usb but continues charging.
Fusion5 tablet android 9
Update this works fine with unmodified USB hub or charge power and USB on my LG k32 phone but not on the fusion ta blet.
