SuperSU - There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. - General Questions and Answers

Hi
I use a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (exynos) which I recently updated to Marshmallow (6.0.1). The update was a success through Odin and after that I was able to root and install TWRP 2.8.7 did a back up and later upgraded to TWRP 3.0.1-0 which at this point is only accessible through home, volume + and power button and not Quick boot as I was previously able to.
1. Somehow I lost root access and can't figure if out if I should revert back to TWRP 2.8.7 IS THAT THE PROBLEM?
2. Should I re-root manually (don't even know what this means as I can only assume using Odin)?
I've tried to uninstall SuperSU AND and reinstall as some forums had suggested to no avail.
I realized this problem when I didn't get prompts to grant access to certain apps and when I opened the actual SU app I got the message ,
'' There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!
If you just upgraded to Android 5.0, you need to manually re-root- consult the relevant forums for your device!"
I have researched and read all types of related solutions but none that talks abut this particular issue... Am I alone out there, please assist as I'm about to wipe the entire phone and stick to basic android, which will see me die of boredom.

I have same problem as well. Tried unintalling and reinstalling SuperSU but the problem still the same. I even flash the AutoCFroot, but still no luck.
Please help

Hi @rxk since I was impatient for responses I figured I had no option but to redo the process from scratch... so I wipe the cache and did a factory reset.
Reinstall the official marshmallow 6.0.1
Used CF-Auto-Root-tre3g-tre3gxx-smn910h for root access
Installed TWRP 2.8.7 instead of the I previously had 3.0.1
I just restored my backup everything was working fine for about 20 mins and we're back to square one. Depressed.

Download another super su version.zip and flash it through recovery.some su versions I used had this problem

Thanks I installed BETA-SuperSU-v2.72-20160510112018 and it worked perfectly for me.

Glad it worked for you

I also get the error above and need to update Super SU. When I go to recovery I have 3 options to install. Through ADB, External storage or Cashe.
How to proceed? The recovery is not TWRP but Android recovery. Thank you

The problem is with su version .pls try another version su version. Download another su version.zip and flash it through recovery

[email protected] solution worked for me... I tried a few other versions of the su and found one that worked well. I wonder what happend to his/her "thanks" button thou.

When I go to recovery I have 3 options to install. Through ADB, External storage or Cashe.
I don't know which option to follow.

I dont think that there is samsung stock 6.0 SU release... if you need root access then revert back to 5.0... or you can flash a custom ROM

I'm running an eRobot 6.0.1 custom rom, installed BETA-SuperSU-v2.72-20160510112018 and it worked perfectly for me.

Just start from square one .download a another version SuperSU.zip file and flash it in recovery
Just forget about the other 3 options

@gizomot ikr lol

I'm sorry, I don't understand what to do.

Just download a super su.zip file say betasupersu2.52 .zip .now head on to recovery click install and install the 2.52.zip
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-CJc5WWY-robUtYQ0dscDJqS00/view?usp=drivesdk .
Is there a option install from zip in your android recovery then go ahead and install the above file if not try twrp or cwm

i have the same problem just like you.
i have a nexus 5 and lately l've flashed nougat Aosp 7.0
and it's running fine, afyer that i flashed supersu.zip and regained root access, then installed busybox which asked me to disble an option that has to do with scanning supersu.
i confirmed yes,my phone rebooted, and then i figured out that i lost root cuz Supersu says ''Su binaries aren't installed and supersu can't install them.
i tried reflashing several versions of supersu via recovery(twrp) including v2.76, v2.77 ,and v2.78
it says succesful.
but when i reboot,no supersu in app drawer,an eeven if i install it from play store, the pop-up window saying no su binary is installed is still there.
please heeeelp help Sos ? ?

[Completed] [Q] King root assist

I have used kingroot to root my phone, as i was trying to change the super user to SuperSU, i deleted kinguser, it removed my root, Now when running kingroot it acts as though i am already rooted, how can i fix this?
This is the first root i have used that worked because i have a Mediatek phone. Please help Orion pro x500a 4.4.2 android
I think i may still have bootloader.... http://prntscr.com/5rha93
I have SuperSu as a system app, but no binary. It fails every time
I think i could flash a custom recovery the flash supersu, but would that have the binary?
If i could do this what program would i use?
I dont even know
Anyone?

Can you boot to system at all? Since you have prerooted there might be enough vulnerability left to use cydiaimpactor to try getting root again, it attacks the android master key exploit and one other abd will not harm your device if the nethod doesn't work. Have you tried flashing superuser or superSU by ADB to your device, if you can get a recovery installed then you are rooted, if you can get to recovery mode then you can flash a ROM you can also flash a ROM through ADB but you've got to be sure you're rooted before you can do ADB.

I can boot to system, i can use android normally, i have supersu but no binary, it is a system app, it stayed through a factory reset. I have a bootloader of some sort. I posted a image of it, i can try to get a clearer one if needed. As i said it is a mediatek phone, what program would i use to flash? Couldnt i just flash supersu? Instead of whole rom, i will flash rom if there is a supported one.
N_psycho_PD_uh? said:
If you already have CWM or other custom recovery then yes you can flash a superuser or superSU zip through recovery. Did you try the cydiaimpactor for pc to see if you could get root binaries to act correctly, if it fails it won't damage anything. this program puts the su binaries into system so you can download superuser and install from playstore, cydiaimpactor is supposed to work on most android devices.

SUPERSU link for OPO COS 13 ( 6.0.1) ? help

Hello Friends,
I have tried to root my OPO running on cos 13 through TWRP. Unfortunately the rooting failed and the phone failed to start, It hangs in "cyanogen mod ready " boot animation screen. some how I have managed to flash the phone to stock OS and again updated it to COS 13.
Now I would like to root the phone , Please someone provide me the right SUPERSU link !
so that I can use it through TWRP.
P.S: The bootloader is already Unlocked.
Thanks in advance :good:
I'm dealing with the same problem, and I've had to flash the system partition back to 5.1.1 and then upgrade to 6.0.1 3 times. Each time I try installing different versions of SuperSU It hangs. Apparently you aren't supposed to install it, and enable root from the developer options, but I don't have any such option.

You need to flash the beta sytemless SU, downloads are at the bottom of this post. Latest is BETA-SuperSU-v2.67-20160121175247.zip - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64161125&postcount=3
Ok, so I found a Beta version of SuperSU 2.7.1, and it seems to have worked. It was a different install process, saying it detected a "systemless root" or something, and it needed to patch the boot image. After that I appear to have root access again..
https://download.chainfire.eu/932/SuperSU/BETA-SuperSU-v2.71-20160331103524.zip
Edit: Whoops, guess I should have refreshed the page before posting.. What you said is correct Ken.
Thank you

You already have an existing thread on this problem, and were told what needs to be done and where to go to get that information and additional assistance... Why are you not using the resources that were given to you previously? There is no magic fix, something was done incorrectly or you are using the incorrect files.
The answer and all support you will need are in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/2015-moto-g/general/guide-how-to-root-moto-g-2015-model-t3448572

So you fastboot flashed the ROM and verified it booted successfully (an initial boot is essential prior to rooting, it sets up the RAM disk and other boot image things the first time), rebooted, flashed TWRP (3.0+) and backed up, did the echo command and flashed SuperSU 2.78 SR1 and it still failed?
Flash the 2.62-3 beta of SuperSU https://download.chainfire.eu/751/SuperSU/ it forces systemless install regardless of detected options. You can update normally in the Play Store, then update the binary in the app.
One of those two methods will work, if it doesn't then you have something more going on then meets the eye or there is a piece of information you are not giving us. This is a tested and working process on every single known Moto G 2015 variant.
BTW, clearing cache and dalvik is not required when rooting, you are just increasing the time it takes to boot for no reason.

K1 Nougat Stock rooted solution

It seems I've found a simple way to upgrade to Nougat 7.0 on K1 from rooted MM.
1) Reboot into TWRP
2) Flash stock full OTA 7.0
3) Flash Magisk 11.1 zip (it'll install root MagiskSU)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
4) Reboot system
5) Optional - install Magisk Manager from Google Play (or the link above) to customize Magisk and root settings (e.g. I like default Grant, not Prompt, and no notifications)
anyone try it ? i Will do it now and let you all know
thanks for the post !

works perfect after losing root and recovery boot image, I just do all the steps and install TWPR and (super user )
NO (super su from chain fire) because for some reason does not work with super su for me.
Install magisk apk too to check for future updates
now sixaxis and GG
thanks for all !!
how to install twrp?
Saw some strange battery behaviour (not charging above 58% or something) and decided to do a clean install, and happy to report it works all the way with TWRP and SuperSU, no issues noticed.
But you do lose your data.
1) Get developer image zip 1.5.0 and flash it, it's easy.
Effectively all you need to do once in fastboot is:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash staging blob
2) reboot, connect to Wi-Fi, check for update, let it download 7.0, restart, let it update to 7.0, reboot into Nougat
3) turn on Developer options; turn on USB debugging in them
4) turn off, boot up to fastboot, flash recovery (fastboot flash recovery twrp.img), reboot into recovery
5) Advanced, enable sideload, start, flash supersu (adb sideload SuperSU-v2.79-201612051815.zip), reboot system
6) The end. Clean Nougat 7.0, TWRP recovery, SuperSU 2.79 - all good.

So how's the tablet now? No random problems? Thanks
I have gotten slightly lost with instructions (yes, in those five points) so my way was on rooted device with 1.3 update and TWRP installed:
1) download OTA and start installation (tablet rebooted into TWRP and installed OTA)
2) reboot
3) find out TWRP is gone
4) reinstall latest TWRP according to instructions on TWRP page
5) download and flash magisk 11.1
7) install magisk manager
No problems so far except HDMI that won't let me output 1920x1200 which I brag about at another thread. 1080p is fine.

People who are having problems:
Full wipe system, data, art & cache.
Flash 5.0 zip from OT (ignore errors)
Flash Opengapps ARM 7.0 PICO

Hi im on rooted N right now. Can I just flash this MagiskSU to change my SU without reformating my k1? thanks

Lost root access after installing Magisk! Cannot install SU!

Earlier today i noticed i could not play super mario run because the game checks for root access. After trying it and failing, i decided to install magisk to cover up root. Booted in to TWRP Recovery and flashed magisk and rebooted. When prompted to install SU i accidently hit do not install and now the SU app keeps telling me to install SU. I tried updating the app and it tells me Su binary occupied. If i uninstall it it tells me that i need to update the binary then fails when i try it. Already tried flashing the update of SU through recovery and nothing. Tried removing all root access and it will not get removed. Even tried to root all over again through odin and still having the same issue. All root access apps tell me im not rooted. Anything i can try without getting rid of my apps and data? Only thing im thinking will be to fully unroot and install stock rom and wipe all data.
Im on a galaxy s5 from sprint, running stock deodexed rom 5.0 lollipop.

Its been a while since I used Magisk. But at that time, PHH superuser had to be used?? Not sure if that is still the case though. Sorry I could not be more help
Yes it does need to be used and it was already installed. But after rebooting the app was not in my app drawer and i had a notification to install SU through play store. But when i go to play store it says it is installed and needs an update. After updating it tells me su binary occupied and takes me to a page to help fix it but i already tried flashing superuser zip file through recovery and nothing changes
Similar Problem
Have you fixed it already because I am havibf the same problem here. I am usibg Samsung J7 Core
You can do what you said you would do (reinstall stock ROM) and then you can try again. Looks like thats the only thing you can do, unless you can somehow remove the root binary and the app using something like ES File Explorer (but again, it requires root) or you can try another root provider.
