Like the title says can you play with just having the APK or is it like tegra that you have to download chainfire etc.

Yes, since all Snapdragon devices can use the same games, it's just a matter of the market permitting you to actually get the game. If it shows the game in the market for you then you can use it. The Tegra ver would need the chain fire Nvidia plugin is that's what you want.
Has anybody managed to make the Sony apps available for other tablets yet. I'd be very keen to use the ps3 apps on my motorola xoom.
What apps are you talking about? Ihave a tablet s and have yet to see any PS3 app!
the Sony website talks of an app to connect to a ps3 and to a sixaxis controller to play ps 3 games on the tablet....

I managed to load up Batman Arkham City on my Xperia Play but couldn't use any controls when playing as the Xperia Play gamepad doesn't do anything.
I'm sure that if we all sent OnLive an email asking for xperia play gamepad support they might consider adding this feature. Then we will be able to play games like batman and saints row on our phones

How do you activate Xperia Play controls when you're already in a game? Also how do you activate them at all. In the menu the only thing that works is directions and "back".
