OMG this freakin PDA is driving me nuts as a phone. Anyone get really bad performance when using speakerphone or bluetooth to another party who is also on speakerphone? The best way I can describe this is it sounds like I'm talking on an old half-duplex speakerphone, that cuts the speaker when the mic is active. For example, if I make a sound on my end like scrunch a piece of paper or drop a pen the audio in the headset "dims" out and then back for a good half second, enough to make the call unintelligible sometimes when I'm in the car or driving. This happens especially if the person on the other end is on speaker.
One thing I noticed: this does not happen as much with the stock plug-in headset. Only speakerphone and most especially bluetooth. Speakerphone has other problems too, like a real nasty high-pitched audio loop that makes the person on the other end cringe (again, other person on speakerphone when this happens).
I've had this with the person on the other end using a Sprint speakerphone and a regular land line speakerphone, so it's not their phone.
I've looked around for quite a while, have the phone for over a month, and have seen some other fixes for audio that don't seem to relate to this issue, but:
does ANYONE else have this problem?
(Stock ROM 1.03.651.3 with radio 1.03.15F USA Sprint)

Does anyone else feel that sound quality is somewhat choppy during phone calls? I get full bars of 4G, yet sound quality seems to be a bit off.
It is not as clear as the G2x I came from or the MT4G before that.
I have the same issue
I have this same issue... the speaker and the microphone on this device are pretty bad... I hope it's something that can be fixed with a software update, or a rom. This is my second Sensation and it's the same problem but it seems to be worst on the second one. If people talk too loud it will crackle, and then people are telling me that my volume is too low when I'm speaking, and i have the volume turned all the way up
Yep I have the same problem. And sometimes when using the speakerphone the sound is soooooooo low

Many calls I receive the other user sounds like they have their volume cranked up beyond reason. And it is not he case.
Similar problem here. People who call me cannot hear me very well, the sound is a little bit choppy.
Is anyone else experiencing a tinny sounding earpiece when on calls at a moderate to high volume? It sounds like the earpiece is rattling or vibrating, but I don't really notice it too much on music. The other phones on my T-Mobile plan (Note 4 and an S5) don't have this issue at all.

i also have this rattling noise, I wonder if it is related to the phone speaker ?
this happened to me on various calls to. It doesn't seem to effect music output or anything else though. Also it doesn't happen on all my calls & I've noticed it more on VoWiFi Hasnt bothered me enough as its not consistent and I use somewhere around 50-100 mins a month Haha TXT PLS.
When you call granny, does she keep saying "Huh?! Wut?!" or does the conversation flow pretty well? Rate this thread to express how you feel about the Huawei Nexus 6P's call quality. A higher rating indicates that calls are clear and crisp, and that regardless of background noise, you can hear the other party clearly (and with ample volume) and they can hear you.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Call quality is just fine. However I have a bug where if I start a call on speaker then switch to handset, the mic is muted. Gah!
When you hang up while you were on speaker, do you still here that annoying peep !!!!!!

Call quality is excellent but on T-mobile, I randomly lose LTE data and only get it back by rebooting the phone. Not cool.
2 Verizon phones here, many callers complaining of the call sounding "muffled" on their end....have found other reports online of the same issue. Pretty good on my end, but apparently not so great on the receiving end.
Google Fi and have had no issues with call quality. Though today I had issues with my proximity sensor not detecting right during a call.
Did the conference call to compare nexus 6 with the 6p. Definitely muffled sound. The other party always complain. So returning this unit, getting another one tomorrow. On t-mobile network.
On Verizon, i get a noticable buzz as my contact is talking and my volume is Medium high or above. on headset. Has anyone else experienced this?
Sounds like mixed results so far. For those that say it's muffled, what are you comparing the call quality to?

With HD calls on T-Mobile I hear static behind every sound. Besides that everything is fine and calls sound great

Mine almost sounds like the speaker is blown out during calls but not when music is played or anything. Also, if I connect Bluetooth during calls or a device other than the phone speaker, the static goes away :-/
I'm getting a very clean call quality on Google Fi. It's much louder on both ends compared to my old 2013 Moto X on Verizon.
As with previous Nexii, the proximity sensor doesn't work properly. Sometimes when ending a call, I take the phone away from my face and notice the notification shade pulled down, because the proximity sensor didn't activate and turn the screen off soon enough.
Also slightly muffled on most calls for verizon.. Only time it's not may be when it's on HD calling with someone who has it..

I posted a fix for this over on reddit. Apparently what is happening is the noise cancellation is interpreting your voice as noise and is attempting to cancel it resulting in a muffled sound. Turning off in call noise cancellation seems to solve the problem. To do this you need to edit your build.prop. The easiest way is to download a build.prop editor. Open it up, locate persist.audio.fluence.voicecall, and change it to false. Save and reboot. Should solve the muffled sounding voice problem.

Thanks, I know that's the fix....it just blows that root is required (I could easily do it to mine but my wife has no desire to let me root hers). After experimenting, the easiest "fix" I've found is to just make sure the bottom speaker is more in line with your mouth and that you don't let the phone "slouch" more vertically (resulting in the bottom speaker being closer to your shoulder).
I am on T-mobile in the US... I was getting comments like speak up.. Sound like you are in a tunnel.. It turns out that covering the noise cancelling mic on the back with your shoulder or a pillow etc causes a problem..
It seems like you have to have root to turn off that feature.
But most of the time calls are clear...
I'm switching from my Nexus 6 and so far my reception is better, and my wife says that she can hear me much better than on my old phone. I am using project Fi

If you use Bluetooth or actually hold your phone, then you will be fine. It seems that the problems appear when you try to use the phone without hands by placing it on your shoulder and covering the rear noise cancelling mic.

Hello,
I have the problem with sound from ear speaker. It is way to loud during call, so everyone around me can hear me. Even on the lowest volume, it may be heard around the phone, even though it is quiet when phone is on the ear. It is as if speakerphone is on during call.
Is this phone made like this, or my is broken? I have tried some fixes, but no luck. This is huge bother for me, so I'm considering to return it.
Does any one else have this problem. Previously I had HTC 10, and the sound during call was perfect.
