Direct Dial Permissions - Mate 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I've tried nearly 10-12 apps to do this but no one could do it. Just the Launchify app did something that i want.
The problem is when you create a direct dial shortcut to notification drawer/bar it does not do the calling when you tab.
It gives different errors according to the app. One is saying can't find the app the other gives more spesific error ( Attached).
What must i do to change the permissions with root or terminator framework etc? Or why is this happening? Can someone help?
Thanks.

Home Launcher Replacement Issue

Ok.. So here's the issue. I'm using Nova Prime.(This might not matter which launcher you use) And I noticed that if I uninstall Nova and use the stock launcher again, it shows shortcuts of things I have downloaded. Problem is most of these I already uninstalled while using Nova. But they still show on stock launcher. Is there a way to stop the Note from creating a shortcut icon on the home page so this doesn't happen? I really don't want to keep using a different home launcher knowing that in the background it will be creating home page shortcuts on the stock launcher. As I said when this happens they are present even If I uninstall the app while using a different home launcher..
Am curious to see if anyone else can recreate this issue. To do so, install something from the play store while using a different home launcher(Nova would be best since its what i'm using) and make sure to set Nova or whatever you are using to default then uninstall the app and uninstall the launcher. You should now see the app icon shortcut still present on the stock launcher and when you press it it says app not found or something.
Anyway thanks . Keep in mind if you uninstall your preferred launcher you will loose your settings so do it only if you want to. Either way I hope there is a way to stop our tab from creating "desktop shortcuts" in the background of other launchers:silly:
i think u can disable "create shortcut in desktop" in play store's settings

Auto add widgets is the one, if you uncheck it there will be no more shortcuts on homescreen when you download from playstore.

Gmail 5.0 working on the G3 (kinda)

Ok so I got gmail 5.0 to work following these instructions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-gmail-5-0-t2912373/page3
Only issue so far is it leaves userdebugging dialogue on the stock launchers homescreen. So far tested third party launchers working is Apex and Nova, but one would assume the same results with other launchers.
I don't use third party launchers so Im going to revert back until someone smarter than I can maybe figure out how to get it to work nicely. Keep in mind you might need the google exchange extension apk and some possible renaming of some existing apps to get outlook/exchange to work. I found it somewhere the other day but dont remember where.
1)Rename existing Gmail apk to .bak in system/app and data/app(if you have ever updated gmail it will also be stored here)
2)Move PrebuiltGmail to system/app and change permissions rw-r-r
3)Now with a buildprop editor(I use buildprop tweaker
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ksharkapps.buildproptweakerlite ) edit the line ro.build.type=user just a few lines down to =userdebug
(Keep in mind our buildprop is so large you'll need a special editor..)
4)Reboot and clear data in Gmail
Again you'll get the userdebug and numbers persistantly on the stock launcher home screen and app drawer so its up to you how bad you want 5.0 if you don't use third party launchers.

Question : Does Gmail 5 not work without editing buildprop? Because judging from what you have said above, the only reason I can see that user debug appears on your home screen is because you have edited the buildprop and put it there.

Anyone figure this one out yet? I have been scratching my head trying to be able to change mine. I followed some guys instructions on Reddit, but that didn't work for me. Wondering if anyone else had figured it out.

Can you post a screenshot? I'm just curious at this point. There's also access to some settings from the lock screen.
Edit: disregard, it just goes to system settings or Nagar settings.

nope.
The lockscreen wallpaper is kind of annoying, but the persistent "This device is HD capable" notification is driving me out of my mind.

Unfortunately, I didn't (well, at least not for what you're seeing in that screenshot). If you visit plus.google.com in Chrome, it offers to put a link to the site on your home screen. So, that icon just opens the web version of Google+. I did install Google+ earlier today, but because I had to sign it myself to remove the conflicting permissions (it conflicts with the improperly built Gallery app), Google's servers rejected the client. IMO, the only chances we have of getting a working Google+ installed are 1) if the phone is rooted, then we should be able to replace the Gallery app with a non-broken one, or 2) Lenovo needs to fix it. Option 2 might happen by accident if they ever decide to release Android 7.
Looks like you can only change the lock screen wallpaper to a static picture, no live wallpapers unfortunately. On other phones you can.
Also, I can install and use Google+ just fine it seems, perhaps because I installed their latest December update.

My stock launcher somehow become corrupted, every second, I get "Unfortuantely Launcher has stopped working". It was a ***** to get to the Google Play store between saying, "ok" and having the message pop again in 1 second. So I was able to get into Play store and install another Launcher that is near the original Launcher_3. However, it does not have that LockScreen Walpaper mode.
I don't know how to fix and reinstate the original launcher. Even after trashing and reinstalling it, it still doesn't work.
Any insight?

Phone Dialer App

I installed a third party dialing app and want to get rid of the Vivo dialer as it won’t stop acting as the default dialer.
I have used ADB regularly to remove apps so I am familiar with the process. My question is - There are four pre-installed phone apps. Not sure if I should delete all four or just the actual dialer app.
They are:
Phone – com.android.dialer
Phone – com.android.phone
Phone Management – com.android.incallui
Phone Service – com.android.server.telecom
Phone/Messaging Storage – com. Android.providers.telephony
Thanks for any help or insight you can provide.

Deleting only [com.android.dialer] will work well for third-party apps.
it's not working also, DO NOT uninstall com.android.phone
I am adding myself to this thread, as I regularly use Google Dialer on other phones with ROMs more dev-friendly.
I installed the patched apk from Xda but when I receive a call, it's still showing the default Vivo dialer.
I replaced it in the default apps and also applied all the security permissions to app and in security center, but still no success.
Any idea?

Not sure of Chinese version but works fine in international version nex s.
Then try activity launcher method.
Install activity launcher app
Open app select all activities in the drop down at top
Scroll down and navigate to settings in the list
Open settings and check for Default App and click on it
Default app window will be launched.
Now select phone from there and select the dialer u wish to use.

no, at least for me i didn´t use adb for changing the stock phone app.
The activity launcher method didn't work on my Chinese NEX with Android 8 but it works very well after I upgraded to Android 9.
Thanks for the guidance, it works perfectly NEX 3
Download activity launcher from App Store
Search for settings
Look for default apps
Select the new dialer app as default
Done
Note: you have to ensure that all permissions and notifications are activated for the new dialer app
It works for me with my Nex 3
There are multiple apps by the same name as "Activity launcher"
can anyone please tell me which is the correct one?
I want to change default dialer of Vivo Y55
Thanks

Yes at first I didn't realize what you were talking about but now I see that you're talking about the menu of the Play Store correct?
If you notice when you go into your Gmail or your calendar and pull up the menu it's the same way. The best explanation I can give you is either 1 these fonts are hardcoded and cannot be changed or 2 the menus of these apps are server-side. I've also taking a screenshot of me typing this and it too is in a normal font and not the one I have chosen. Look at the URL versus what I have typed.
