Welcome fellow Canadians!
Seeing as the Galaxy Note 3 is going to be released in Canada very shortly (October 4th), I figured we should get some discussion going on where you're buying, and any speculations to price points.
I just got off of a chat with Telus, regarding an email I had received, offering $50 off a device when you sign a contract, OR, stay month-to-month. So you can save a bit of money for those who are purchasing the phone outright, or even signing up for a new contract. You need to call a special sales line: 1-877-279-3900
Also, while she couldn't officially confirm, the rep did tell me that she would strongly suggest I go to a corporate store on Friday.. Obviously this is just in case there are shipping delays (doubtful) but I think that it's quite safe to say that it's coming out on Friday!
Currently, Wind Mobile is the only carrier to officially announce their pricing, but I think that it would be safe to say that the other carriers will be in line (roughly) with Wind.
- WIND 40: $449
- WIND 30: $549
- WIND 33: $549
- WIND 20: $649
- Outright: $749
I was also able to "confirm" with the rep, that the price point for Telus would probably fall around $799, so that isn't too far off of Wind's pricing.
Discuss anything related to the Canadian launch of the Note 3!
All I really want to know is if the bootloader will be locked like the US variants or did we escape it again like with the S4?
I will be getting mine outright from rogers.

I wonder how we'll be able to tell. I'm still on an S2 until Friday, but I don't think we ever had problems with the bootloader.

I just checked out Mobilesyrup's review of the Galaxy S2X and it had an unlocked bootloader. If the S4 had an unlocked one as well, I'd be very hopeful that the Note 3 is unlocked as well, only time will tell! 4 more days..

Good thing we only have 4 days left to wait!
On another note, how would one find out if the bootloader is unlocked or locked?
EDIT: Telus seems to have added the Note 3 as "Coming Soon" http://beta.telus.com/wireless/devices/samsung-galaxy-note-3/

Which International Model Works Best In Canada N900 or N9005?
Hi Guys
As the title states, which model works best in Canada specifically on Bell, the N900 or N9005 model? Also will I get full LTE with the N9005 model? I've tried researching them and keep finding different answers. Sorry if this topic has been covered prior. Just sold my Xperia Z Ultra C6833 to jump over to the N3. Or should I wait for the Canadian release on Bell which I believe is this Friday Oct.4th?
Thanks Again

Im having the same problem myself. Wondering which models will work on Rogers with LTE? Its difficult to understand the band and frequency numbers. I have never had to research a phone like this before I bought it. Some of the numbers match and some dont, does that mean it'll work? Or does it have to have every number matching?
But ya, my question is the same, will an unlocked N9005 LTE work on Rogers?
You can't quote me on this, but if you're looking for LTE, then the only version hat works would be the Qualcomm N9005. I believe the N9000 is the octa core 3G international version.

Hey AllGamer, nice to see you back from the Galaxy S2 days
I found the Wind Mobile pricing from Mobilesyrup: http://mobilesyrup.com/2013/09/28/w...laxy-note-3-on-october-4th-heres-the-pricing/
Bell also announced their pricing today as well, off contract: $799.95 (http://mobilesyrup.com/2013/10/01/bell-samsung-galaxy-note-3-to-cost-799-95-outright/). Which is right around the pricing that the CSR told me yesterday.
Does anyone know for sure, 100%, if the T-Mobile version of the Note 3 will work on Wind? Normally this is the case, but I ask because the T-Mobile version is the snapdragon model whereas Wind is going to be carrying the Exynos model.
I really want the dev support, and from what i gather, dev support is going to be none-existent for the Exynos version? Or is this maybe not going to be as accurate as it is/was for the S4? Or am i wrong about the S4 here too? I just remember reading and hearing that samsung doesn't release source code for the kernel etc for the Exynos chips - which i don't understand fully because I did read a few posts about how samsung had released the source for the Note 3 (or maybe it was the Note 10.1 2014) with the Exynos chip...
can anyone shed light on these issues for me?
Specifically, four questions:
1. T-Mobile Snapdragon phone on Wind Mobile? (Or any other snapdragon phones on Wind?)
2. How does the dev support look like it will be for the Exynos version that Wind Mobile is going to be selling?
3. Does the source code that samsung released for the Exynos model of either the note 3 or note 10.1 2014 mean that they are releasing more source code than they used to for their Exynos chips? Or was this stuff all released for other chips too?
4. Do you guys know if there will be a way to purchase the Note 3 outright from wind if you are not going to be on a new contract? I'm on wind already and i want to keep my existing plan because it's a better deal than any plan they have had since they offered this one, but i obviously want to buy this phone friday... i know with the S3 i had to activate a new plan, but of course then i just threw out the new sim card - worry here is that one wind guy told me that for the first month they may not even allow outright purchases only purchases on the wind tab, in which case i couldn't just throw out the sim card and use my old one could i?

$750 outright, $249 on 2yr contract.
I imported my N900 as soon as I could
I'm on Bell, everything is perfect. I have LTE coverage in my area but I can live without, no lte mean better battery and that what I need.
I did the same thing in the past for my Galaxy S4, I imported the Octa core too.
Been playing with it for almost a week now, awesome device!

Hi guys. I'm planning on buying an sch-i535 which I know is a US Verizon exclusive phone. my question is, can I use it with GSM (SIM) generic European bands?
and does CyanogenMod support it on GSM. are there any restrictions of using it on GSM, like being able to only use 2G mobile data. or can I tune it to be just like a normal S3. I like this model only because it has 2GB of RAM. And I'm trying to mainly use it with CM12.1 as I hate Samsung's stock ROM.
Please guys reply quickly as I'm talking to the seller now and I want to confirm. thank you

A few things to consider before buying this variant would be if the bootloader is indeed unlocked. If not you will not be able to run CM on a locked bootloader.
I've used my old S3 on a GSM carrier here in the states with no issues however it needed a CDMA sim card to work properly. I know you can choose which network you want to use and there may even be an option for a specific type of mobile data used, sorry I haven't been on the stock rom verizon uses in quite a long time. Personally I would look for an unlocked phone. This may be SIM unlocked via the factory but I've seen a lot of people use it internationally and have tons of issues with it

Yes. there seem to be tons of issues with this model, I already have an I9300 and an Xperia Z2 which is an astonishing phone, I only like Samsung because of the strong developers contribution and development support in general as I'm a super used, besides, I like the small form factor of the S3 and it's pocket-friendly size and weight. I'm not gonna consider this i535 due to all the hassle it's gonna leave me with . Thank you very much, I'll try to look for an I9305 or even an S4

I'd like to propose a bounty thread for a fully functioning Android 6.x ROM that fully supports Project Fi. I myself own a Nexus 6, a Moto X Pure and use Project Fi as my primary carrier. While I really don't care that my phone doesn't switch to Sprint right now, because in my area Sprint isn't even competitive, I'd still like it to function properly when it needs to. Besides, I'm sure others who prefer Sprint in their area or travel a lot would appreciate it!
That being said, I have a Nexus 6 and the ability to supply any information/dumps/etc. And potentially a willingness to donate it to a reputable dev who has a Moto X Pure but needs the 6 for sake of development.
I will also donate $100 towards the bounty. I'm sure if there's a promising ROM, more Fi users would be willing to jump to a Moto X rather than one of the new Nexus phones and support the ROM development. With 10,000 members in the Fi Google+ community, and tons of anxiety among them, this is a pot of gold to a developer looking for a project!
Bounty promised thus far:
AtLemacks - $100 (possible device)
CJ-Wylde - $100
Charlatan01 - $100
I have a Moto X Pure and would love to switch to Project Fi, but just didn't care for the Nexus choices of devices. I would too donate $100 if this is something possibly within reach.
Fi is only good IF you use little data i really dont get the hype.
As of this moment on Verizon i pay about 35-37$ and have 30gb (+2/3mo) to share with 5 lines, even tho i want to switch to T-Mobile. Fi is not a good deal for most people.

OK, but this isn't about whether or not it's a good option for you or everyone, this is about opening the device options for the 10,000+ who do want to use it.

I'd have to politely disagree. It's all software based, and the 5x has the same 808 SoC. You don't even have to be on a Fi build on Fi to activate an N6. It's all run by software, of course the recommend their build, but I had no problems all summer running the M preview.
It's been proven, the Moto X Pure supports it hardware-wise. It has support for dual connection and supports all US cell bands. In terms of software, it's very early to request an android 6.0 build, as 5.1 hasn't even been worked out fully for this device, and cyanogenmod hasn't even begun nightlies for 6.0. I love the enthusiasm and will gladly throw on a $10 donation if someone can make this happen, but I think waiting for the CM13 source to get updated to a "stable" nightly is the best way to make it "full featured" and maintain stability.

IF you use every bit of data they give you. I get 5GB/unlimited/unlimited for $45, and I have used 4+GB before, but on average I use 2GBish. So Fi would be way better, as I would get money back for not using that data.

Yea in my opinion it's only good if you use really small amounts of data for it being google they should have offered something better.

It's software based as far as we know, but part of that is you need support in the radio (baseband). It's not just taking code from AOSP that's not been compiled into moto roms (althought i'm sure that's part of it), you need to have a RIL that supports those extra commands.
There was a former Project Fi engineer that said on twitter that there are hardware reasons the Nexus phones can use Fi. Sorry though, I can't find the twitter posts...
The only hardware would be radio chip that have all bands for us carriers because the chip would need to be able to switch between CDMA and gsm without issue. The moto x has that and we know it does because this phone can be used on all carriers. At least that is what I took from it when I read about it... Though I can't recall exact article.
The Nexus 5X uses a snapdragon 808 like our Moto X Pure so therefore it should use the same radio. Theoretically the 5X radio should be interchangeable with the X, so long as the RIL and telephony apks are ported as well. Also the 5X runs marshmallow and we haven't received it yet, so any chances of trying anything won't happen until we get marshmallow. The twitter posts by the Google engineer said it'll never work because Nexus devices are whitelisted for Sprint while our Moto X isn't (unless you can get it whitelisted)

I'm not a wiz on the whole subject but I'll tell you this, I moved from an AT&T note 4 and AT&T service to t-mobile service with the s7 edge. The note 4 till this day, hasn't gotten the marshmallow update while almost all carriers have released it including tmobile. Also the bootloader is locked and also no root. I said to myself I was going to give samsung another chance on tmobile. If nothing happens, then we know where the future of future samsung products go as far as rooting.

For the update.. samsung did a bad job of keeping their products up to date. The mobile carrier cannot make their own marshmallow update for note 4, if samsung doesnt make it in the 1st place. I think they want ppl to buy their new products.. And as far rooting... i think is really hard now since they work with blackberry to make KNOX better...
Long story real short.
-Military member, moving to England for a few years
-Need new phone
-Like to tinker. Have rooted/rom'ed/messed with phones in the past (moderate to advanced user)
-Needs to be GSM to work (Currently have AT&T). Would like to use it as I return to USA as well for vacation.
-Prefer unlocked/non-region locked as well as tinker friendly and durable. Id like the bootloader unlocked and read the U still has the locked bootloader.
-Not tied to any carrier... I will have to use the networks and sim cards in Europe.
Looked at:
Galaxy S7 930U. If I get the Euro version (930F), I am reading some stuff about having to use it for 5 minutes in its region before it unlocks.
Nexus 6P looks interesting for faster software updates but the thing is freaking huge. I like one handed operation.
I usually Root mainly just to get full file explorer features and to get wifi-tethering for travel. Tethering is a MUST have for me. Looks like the S7 tethers out of the box for free? or am I wrong? Does the Nexus 6P do the same? I would imagine it is easier since its not tied to a carrier.
I am losing interest in Rom'ing and looking for more stability and just the few features I need. Any ideas? Open to any suggestions. I am leaving soon so I need to make a decision soon. Worse case, I go to best buy and pick up the 930U S7.
Thanks in advance. I wish I had more time before I go to read up on this but It is kind of spur of the moment I am deciding to upgrade.
