Verizon GS3 "World", "GSM", or ???

The GS3 Verizon is a CDMA device. Supposedly it has GSM compatible radios too. It's supposed to be able to work on GSM networks after a software update coming soon. Does this thing have a sim card slot? I don't see how it would work on GSM networks without it. Does anyone know how this works?
I'm hoping to use it on Verizon in USA, but on Telcel while in Mexico BUT with my Telcel sim. I realize my hopes are slim but if there's a sim card slot maybe it's possible???

It has a SIM card slot for the LTE. Unsure about compatibility though.

Actually, I have an old Verizon Motorola Z6c World Phone here that I bought in 2008. It has a Verizon sim card inside.
Z6c Specs say:
2G Network GSM 900 / 1800
3G Network CDMA 1xEVDO (800 / 1900 MHz)
Anyway, there's no LTE involved on the Z6c back then. SO apparently the GS3 will need the sim on non CDMA networks. I just wonder if the software experts here can make it possible to use the sim only at certain times and at the same time unlock the phone.
A lot to ask but will be a huge feature if done.

I said earlier that I wasn't sure about compatibility, but I'm starting to believe that this is not possible, as the Verizon version lacks the proper GSM/HSPA+ radios. There's a model comparison chart that you can expand on the Wikipedia page. Software probably won't be able to pull the miracle you're asking for. Sorry

The SCH-i535 did recieve GSM certification for bands 850 and 1900. No HSPA+ though.

Yeah, I don't think the current specs out on the GS3 are totally complete. If the phone is admittedly needing a software update to allow the GSM roaming then they can't just put those bands in the specs with no caveats.

[Q] Verizon Razr Maxx HD LTE in Canada?

Hi Guys,
So I got a new Razr HD from Verizon, and took it to Canada where I live. I travel a lot from the USA to Canada. The phone specs seem to indicate that it has all the bands necessary to support all the GSM and LTE bands as well as CDMA when in the states. I was able to easily get 3G/H+ service from Rogers in Canada by simply changing the Network Mode to GSM/UMTS instead of Global and then adding an APN for Rogers. However, I cannot get LTE service. The LTE choice seems to be bundled with CDMA LTE/CDMA but I don't think that matters, I think its just a radio choice. However, when selecting this, I get an error from the phone saying "No LTE networks could be found" and Do I want to switch to GSM?
This is sad because the phone would be excellent on LTE. Does anyone know how to get a Verizon branded phone to run on Rogers LTE?
If you have any ideas let me know, I will test them.

Short answer, you can't. Different LTE bands. Rogers is 4 and 17, Verizon is 1, 3, 5, 13, 25. No overlap, and no-one currently makes LTE hardware that supports ALL LTE bands.

Just wanted to add to this... I tested my Samsung Galaxy S3, a generic version that I got from Amazon, works on AT&T in the USA on LTE and in ROGERS in Canada. Too bad the Verizon Droid does not support a similar global LTE band. Or does AT&T and Rogers simply have the same LTE bands???

Yes, AT&T and Rogers have maintained the same bands since they were partnered maybe 10 years ago. Fido is owned by Rogers, so it also uses the same, from GSM up to LTE.
Neither AT&T or Verizon use "global" LTE bands, because there aren't any. Almost every country/provider uses different bands. There's some crossover, but with LTE, buy a phone for the market you are in, because you probably couldn't afford the roaming rates abroad anyway.

Hey guys, I think I have a related question.. maybe you guys can help
I live in Toronto and Rogers is my wireless carrier. From my understanding, Rogers operates on band 4 (1700 / 2100 mhz) as well as 2600 Mhz.
I am thinking of gettnig the new DROID MAXX from Verizon. I have tried asking the Verizon / Motorola reps about whether the LTE would work in Canada but wasn't able to get a firm answer.
From the Motorola website, however, as well as from gsmarena.com, it looks like the DROID MAXX will have access to not only LTE 700mhz, but also at 1700 and 2100 mhz.
What are the chances that this phone will work on Rogers LTE?
Really hoping it could work out... let me know if you guys have any ideas..

Unlocking the GSM Variant?

Hey there, fellow comrades!
I am planning to buy the Moto G from Cricket to use it on T-Mobile. I googled for hours, but could only find information to unlock the slick phone by buying unlock codes. I was wondering if there was any way to do this for... free? There are solutions around for most flagship phones, but are there any tools of similar nature for the Moto G?
Any tips would be helpful! Thanks!

Why not just buy an unlocked one can't cost that much more and its illegal to unlock a phone without carriers consent

Many things you see one XDA is technically and strictly "illegal," that doesn't make it illegal to spread the knowledge. As I said before, there are plethora of threads on XDA that show how to unlock other phones, so XDA is not strictly enforcing it.

Maybe you are not seeing that outside the us its legal but still costs a deal...I am being helpful I told you there is no way currently either by paying the fee or the requirements of the Carrier itself for unlocking.... What illegal things are you referring to anyway

Why not just buy the US GSM Moto G from Motorola? Motorola allows you to unlock it. Just go to here

it has a list of all Motorola phones that can be unlocked. You can also buy the Google Edition Moto G for the same price and that one is easy as pie to unlock.
You mean bootloader unlock correct? To flash ROMs
If you mean carrier unlock then there is only one US Variant of the GSM Moto G and it works on all US GSM carriers no problem.

He said he wants to use it on T-Mobile. All he has to do is buy the GSM Variant from Motorola. It works on all GSM carriers. Check the GSM Bands. There is only one GSM Moto G. T-Mobile's SIM will work fine no issues. No need to carrier unlock and Motorola allows bootloader unlocking (voiding the warrenty though). I'd go Google Play Edition though. Same price.
Or buy the new LTE version. $20 more but allows has a Micro SD Card slot.
Only the CDMA versions are carrier branded. That's why you can't buy the CDMA Moto G from Motorola's website.

You're going to have to ask the Cricket representative if the phone you are buying is a GSM or CDMA? The new Cricket is GSM but they still have their CDMA network running for the next year for their old subscribers. If it's CDMA then it will not work on T-Mobile and there is no way to carrier unlock it since the CDMA version doesn't have any GSM antennas inside.
Actually you can carrier unlock CDMA versions. Take Boost Mobile's to Verizon since Verizon's can't be bootloader unlocked but Boost's can.

Best LG G Pro 2 (model) for T-Mobile LTE

I brought back a Pro 2 F350L from Korea because it was listed in swappa as the Att device unlocked. I took it to T-Mobile put in a sim card which automatically chose the appropriate apns. I only get 3g no lte. I have scoured the web and these forums but cant find the info that tells me wether i got the wrong device for Tmo bands. I need help either configuring the correct bands or correct radio to flash or if this device won't or can't get lte on Tmo network. I am more than happy to reward the parties or person who helps me figure out this problem. If i have the wrong phone then so be it i will get the other model (that gets tmo lte) and unload this F350L. Thanks for any and all help.

So seeing the bands I posted would the phone work for ATT? Thats a huge question because it (350L) is posted on Swappa a a ATT phone? At least I can unload it there, LOL.

wiseguyy, I believe the phone must have band 2 and/or 4 for it to utilize TMO's LTE service. From what I've read, band 1 is used only for roaming. Read the entire thread you quoted above.

Can we unlock the 3G and 4G bands of Moto G 2015?

Hi,
I brought a Moto G from India, before coming the US for doing my masters.
The thing is here it does not pick up 3G or 4G bands. It just works on EDGE.
I wanted to ask if i can use the QPST method to unlock the bands? because I can see no information on it in the forums(for this phone). I am especially confused since it says nothing about dual sim phones and this is the dual sim variant of moto G
It would be great if someone would guide me how i could unlock the bands on my phone.

I'm almost a 100% sure this wont work but try installing a USA stock rom and a USA stock kernel. But I think the problem is with Sim card though.

I am a little confused here... Your Indian model phone should get 3G in the US, but not LTE (I hate it when people say "4G", technically speaking even LTE isn't 4G but that is for another thread), in fact, assuming you have the correct SIM and APN settings, your model should get HSPA+ speeds. LTE is out though... let me explain
3G (HSPA/HSPA+) in the US is 850Mhz and 1900Mhz, in India it is 800Mhz and 1800Mhz, the Moto G supports all 4 of these bands, so it should work in the US just fine.
In the US, several bands are used for LTE such as 2, 4, 5, 12, 13, 17, 25, 26, and 41 (granted some bands are very limited or carrier specific), but in India LTE use is exclusively Band 40 by both Aircel and Airtel, and the LTE setup in the Moto G is specific for those countries and does not inter-operate.
So, long story short, with a GSM US carrier SIM and correct APN setup, you should get 3G HSPA+ data connections with no issues on your Indian Moto G, which is probably good enough for most uses and can exceed 8mbps down speeds in many areas.

Hey thanks for the reply man.
I think even HSPA or HSPA+ might not work for me on this phone. I am using a T Mobile family plan here, and comparing th bands given on the website:
"4G (HSPA+)

It seems that the uplink is unsupported by my phone and so the phone is unable to use the HSPA/HSPA+ bands. I think the only way to use it is to unlock the 1700 MHz band on my phone.
(BTW Tmobile quotes HSPA+ as 4G and thats hilarious lol)

Most us carriers say HSPA+ is 4G...
Tmobile is great in many regards, except if you have an international phone like the Moto G and they do not have the correct bands implemented in your area, which it appears they do not... Honestly, consider moving to AT&T Wireless or an AT&T based MVNO like Cricket, Straight Talk AT&T, or Go Phone, it might cost a little more but you could get HSPA+ with no issues. 850Mhz is AT&T's primary HSPA/HSPA+ frequency, and 1900Mhz is added to congested areas, but this varies by area... before going all in I suggest trying a SIM from a buddy or go the AT&T (corporate) store and ask to test a SIM just to be sure. But regardless you should get UMTS/GSM speeds on AT&T, which is way better than Edge, averaging anywhere from 500kbps-2mbps.
If TMo is essential or you can't change for whatever reason or live without HSPA+/LTE, consider getting a Blu phone or Moto E locally, they are relatively inexpensive (under $150) and are not amazing but will probably do the job.

Cool Alright. I actually had a chance to join AT & T family plan but didn't join it because T-mobile was giving more data :facepalm:
Ill see if i can switch to an AT & T network.

so far i know these are hardware specs and cannot be unlocked or changed.i mean to say moto g 2015 has different variants based upon hardware specs of their band support

If you started using att with your xt1550 ..how is it? Do you get 3g or lte?

I didn't start using it. Currently stuck with a group plan.. But I tried using a friends sim card.. 3g does work well with at n t.

I am currently having the samw problem, i bought a moto g which lte and 3g bands do not work in argentina. I tried the qpst method, but i got stuck in step 12 of the guide. If someone could make it work and explain how they did it, it would be awesome.

Same here...I am trying qpst also but rf.nv manager keeps getting an error for me. Maybe we can work together on this. I also can't figure out the hidden menu..unless its *#*#4636#*#*

Hey , I'm from argentina too and have the same problem. Could someone fix it? (hablemos en castellano)

The same problem with rf.nv manager. It always stops when I want to setting the COM. I edited some things of the program... Didn't work.
