No LTE on T-Mobile with S7 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions & Answers

Since purchasing this phone about a month ago, I haven't had LTE. I checked my SIM in my wife's iPhone 6s and it pulled LTE. My t-mobile rep said they know about the issue and quickly set me up for a warranty exchange. Anyone else have this issue? If it's a known issue, why isn't anyone else talking about it?
Can you guys confirm that the S7 has a designated stock LTE icon? Mine always says 4G and Ookla says my download/upload are 7.5 and 12.2 respectfully.
EDIT: latest firmware, no case on device, in Lemoore, CA., no known outages

Everything is good here.. I get "4G LTE" in the top bar...
You said that you put your wife's SIM card in your S7 and you got LTE?

Vise versa actually. My SIM pulled LTE on her iPhone. Her SIM in my S7 only got 4G, just like my SIM does in it.

My s7 also doesn't say LTE, only 4g. Is it suppose to say LTE? I'm in a major metropolitan area and haven't seen LTE. I got 100Mbps though from home.

I have no idea if we're SUPPOSED to have a designated LTE icon. Anyone have a screenie of the illustrious icon on a T-mobile S7?

I haven't seen it but it sounds like it could be an incorrect APN setting. But I would have thought they would have you check that.

We checked the APN and even made another with T-mobiles settings manually inputted. Still nothing. The new phone comes Thursday. I will see if it's the phone, the service, or there really isn't an issue and where I live just sucks.

My Tmobile S7 never says LTE either. It always says 4G. I downloaded the LTE Discovery app from the Play Store and it clearly states that I am connected to the LTE network. It shows the signal strength, channel and tower I'm connected to. Hope that helps.

You guys are joking right? You're using Good Lock which uses the stock Google System UI icons. 4G = LTE
This is a pic of my homescreen, Icon shows 4G but I'm on LTE (Band 4).

No one was joking, and to comment with guns-a-blazing with the goal of offending someone isn't what this place is about. My area is suffering a congestion issue, so my LTE is still spotty. But at least I know that there is a designated LTE icon.

I do not know closest cross streets but putting just Lemoore, CA 93245 in search on the Sensorly website 4G is in surrounding areas but solid coverage is only for 3G. Check on the website and put in your cross streets. Looking on the Root Metrics coverage map shows 4G LTE.

Not really. LTE doesn't fully satisfy the requirements of a 4th generation GPRS. It is getting there, though. @42freelancer, I hope you don't do a warranty exchange over a UI bug. Do some speed tests and real use (Youtube, etc) to see what sort of service you're getting. The stock Samsung firmware for the S6 says 4G, not LTE...

Those are excellent speeds for this phone. You are on HSPA+ for sure, otherwise you'd be getting less than 1-3 Mbps down/0.5-1.0 Mbps up if you were on 3G only.
Also your phone should say "4G" right in the status bar, which is what T-Mobile calls HSPA+.
I didn't mean the lame comment but I knew it would get me results. I do average between 4 and as high as 11 mbps so the speeds reflect hspa+ I just assumed it would say hspa+ not hspa in my settings.

This is the expected behaviour. He was talking about the label for "4G" or HSPA+ in settings. HSPA+ is simply T-Mobile's version of 4G. Which, for what it's worth, isn't technically 4G.
The status bar indicator isn't accurate. Side-by-side, my G2 with Mobile Signal PRO shows 3G while the G2X never moves from 4G. Mobile Signal PRO never registers anything above 3G on the G2X which is weird. I have friends that use it on Samsung and HTC phones and it's always spot-on and it's always been accurate on my G2. I think there's something funky going on with the LG radio software.
its propably not fully optimized for the g2x yet

It works on a friends P990 in the Netherlands so it must be specific to the T-Mobile version of the radio. I e-mailed the dev to find out what's up.

so if your area is only 3G at the moment like mine is it will display 4G but that is not accurate.... im calling tmobile about this and will ask more... plus i wanna know when my area will be getting 4G (prolly never)

Has anyone tried going to Setting > Wireless and Networks > Mobile Networks and changing the network mode to try and get a 3G symbol to show up? I'd try it myself but I get no signal in the house I'm in at the moment (Wi-Fi calling FTW!).
I forced my network to used WCDMA and my icon says 4g. But I checked in About Phone Status and it says I'm on hspa not hspa+. So it appears 4g means maybe 3 or 4g.

Same issue here.
This morning I wake up, and my thunderbolt is stock on 1x. If I switch to 4G, it will do 4g, but back to CDMA only, and stuck on 1x. I have 4G at home, but leave it on 3G because I normally am at work with no 4G coverage.
I flashed the stock mr 2 rom just to confirm and used the official radio just to be safe. No change.
Googled around a bit and here is a fix that worked for me...
Dialer -> ##778# ->Call -> Edit -> 000000 -> modem settings ->Rev A
Switch to enable from eHRPD and then hit back once. Menu->Commit.
Solved for me, but I don't know if it has adverse effects...

This makes your phone use the "old" version of EvDO. Basically what all 3g phones that don't have 4g radios use. If your area doesn't have 4g, doing this change shouldn't effect you at all and might get you 3g if you are stuck in 1x.

You can in 3G with the Thunderbolt. I did it yesterday. I work in 4G but live in 3G, but this feature is what finally made me pick the TB over the Charge.
I started this morning with the 3G/4G toggle on 3G only, to save battery, and around lunch I switched 4G back on and it has been there since... I haven't had issues with 1X. Must be a regional thing.

How old is your SIM card? I've read that outdated cards aren't able to utilize 3/4G & getting a new one from the vendor (T-Mobile, etc.) can fix it.
sometimes 3G signal is too weak so phone automatically switches to EDGE to improve signal. Try go outside where signal is better.
Also check if your APN is set correctly

I had a maxx running 4.4 kitkat using the phone info app and settings tweak on HSPA with WCDMA preferred as the setting. I am in a refarmed area in N.C cant tell any big difference between speed when I had the Iphone 5 on Tmobile LTE and the Maxx with HSPA. Seems just as fast.
Then i broke the screen on the maxx -_- instead of replacing the screen just got a new phone since Im not with verizon and it would have been 345 to replace the screen.
Just got a new one but its running 4.2.2 and am using the same settings with same results. :good:

Can you see if you activate LTE how it functions? Curious to know if this bug was introduced in 4.4

When I first got the phone I thought the same, I actually was under the impression the LTE wouldnt even pick up with my Tmobile sim on 4.2.2 Before I made the settings changes, I had my wifi on, LTE showed active on the status bar, I shut my wifi off, and it reverted to HSPA but did not have any active data, or any active cellular functions. I re activated the wifi, the LTE status came back but still had no cellular functions, the data I did have was obviously coming from my wifi and not cell data. For some reason I though 4.2.2 I didnt have to make any changes and HSPA would work automatically, but I guess not. Im not picky though as long as it works somehow, I am happy.

Maybe a reboot and retry? Do this for me. Turn off wifi and set pref mode to LTE/Gsm/umts. Leave the pref network to auto and try that
Maxx'd out Kit Kat
Gave that a shot with no luck. Was there a specific network mode I was supposed to select in the phone info app? I had in the phone settings LTE/GSM/UMTS and network on auto, i scrolled through a bunch of the selections in the phone info app with no luck, just HSPA and no connection.
Just got me the Dev Edition ordered. Says in stock but shipping may take 7days. Going to use mine on at&t for now
