Hi everyone,
I'm about to buy this phone from china, and it comes with two versions
-TDD mobile version
-FDD telekom/unicom version
Now, I know that the suitable one for europe is the FDD, but the TDD is a lot cheaper, and aliexpress vendors are also selleing it cheaper and saying that with flashing a new ROM you will get the FDD bands (only in one SIM, for me it's enough).
Can anyone here confirm it?
Many thanks.
That sounds like the Mi4 not the Mi4C. The 4C is capable of FDD and TDD, there are no different versions.

it's the Mi4c, in fact here is an example of a aliexpress vendor with two versions of the Mi4c (both 2/16 GB)
http://es.aliexpress.com/store/product/Original-Xiaomi-Mi4c-Mi-4c-4G-FDD-LTE-Mobile-Phone-Snapdragon808-Hexa-Core-5-0-inch/900031_32547896903.html?storeId=900031&aff_platform=aaf&sk=IYbMNznYJ:&cpt=1462555534080&aff_trace_key=4b5006033c6649c580c30b5e0492b08c-1462555534080-02056-IYbMNznYJ
I confirm when flashed no difference, buy cheapest.

Thanks, any special way to flash the ROM, or any ROM in particular?
Well.. It seems really odd to me.
I've never heared of an TDD version of it, and I am quite sure, they only made one with FDD/TDD.. but of course, it could be, that I missed something.
Also the fact, that they have a "special" rom doesn't sound good to me...
And since you are going to flash a new one, you would lose the WCDMA capability. (In the case of the strange TDD unlocked one)
Regarding the Rom, I am using miuipro.ru, because I want a german rom, and I'm happy with it.
Xiaomi.eu is really good as well, and sMiui should be also good.
So I would suggest one of those three. Depending on your desired language, and root etc. All three are multilingual, if I'm not mistaken.
For flashing, you probably need to unlock the bootloader, for flashing TWRP. There should be a tutorial on xda.

I bought mine on fasttech during a 20% rabatte period - There where two models with different model numbers showned on the genuine box if i remind well it was given at TDD and FDD/TDD and it was claimed to have same 4G frequency after flashing. So i bought the cheapest and when received update with official chinaDev 5.10.8 (a downgrade in fact) don't remmind exactly why, after that and perhaps in consequence i reboot in mi recovery and flashed TWRP and after begun to flash unofficial roms. Actually i use a lighted sMiu (more options removed) 6.4.28, i dind't find any issue for my use on it so i will let stuck on that for a while, i never find any limitation so i think there is no, only one model materially exist for me. My Mi4c Prime works great and i love it.

Did you succeed? It will save me 11 USD if I order the TD-LTE version over the FDD-LTE and flash it to support FDD-LTE subsequently. Living in Europe, so need FDD-LTE. I can use 1800, 2600 (and the 800 mhz, but that seems unlikely from XDA posts).
So, can you give an update here - did you in fact enable FDD-LTE on a TD-LTE version by flashing?
Cheers!

I just noticed the sticker on the back of mine says TD-LTE.
I'm also in Europe, using bands 3/7 and it works fine. I've been using it for about a week and a half and LTE reception seems to be on par with my N5 and 2nd gen Moto X

I just ordered my black Mi4 today and will hopefully switch from my z1c in a few days. Are there other users within europe to share knowledge with? Since 3g and 4g networks differ from the network bands used in the USA, it might be a good idea to get connected.
Of course, i'm still interested in sharing knowhow with everyone else of you too when it comes to non-network-related issues.

interesting. Didn't know that. But it seems like a trustworthy reseller anyways, as i read tons of positive remarks about them. But let's just see when (and how) my device arrives.

great! As France and Germany use the same frequency bands, everything should be fine then. I read a few complains about bad/no reception, but it seems like this wouldn't be a general problem after all.
No problem of reception at all. I get even better signal than my old S4 Mini, and better sound quality too.

FDD LTE Band 20
The international version of the Mi4 is available today.
But there is no official support for FDD LTE 800 MHz (Band 20)
Maybe it comes out next year or we can get with a firmware update ?
FDD-LTE model is not available yet, you have to wait.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-4/general/unlocking-basebands-mi4-t2879685
Nobody has reported success in unlocking bands on different model, likely hardware issue/impossible.

I do not think that this will happen with the MI4, just more in a new model like "MI5". In Germany you can use this Band 20 with t-mobile in some areas. You can not fix this problem with an simple software update, its more linked to the hardware conditions. But you can put me right
so i got my Mi4 yesterday. 2G/3G seem to work perfectly fine.
The only thing i'm still not quite sure about is localization. I currently use .12.12 dev-Edition. Seems like giving root-Access right out of MIUI is not available in stable editions. But sadly, the localized versions (in my case: german ) seem to lack behind. Not a big deal as i'm perfectly fine using english terms in my OS, but i wonder if there is any way to tell 3rd party apps (facebook etc.) that they should use foreign languages. Any ideas?
[edit] woohoo! This one did the trick: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.evanhe.locale
All 3rd party apps, that have any localization built in, now show up in german language

Being that Europe has the similar bands as the U.S. will it work in the States?
Anyone happens to have both the AL00 and AL29 for comparison? I am curious whether the display uses for the US version of mate 9 is different compares to the Chinses version.
The display panels are the same, no difference.
Sent from my MHA-L29 using XDA Labs
MHA-AL29 has more LTE support, such as B4 (1700/2100 AWS 1). I'd make sure you got the one with LTE band support for your carrier.

AL00 Variant Info
L29 Variant Info
You'll notice that the:
AL00 model supports the following LTE bands: B1, B3, B7, B38, B39, B40, B41
L29 model supports the following LTE bands: B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B7, B8, B9, B12, B17, B18, B19, B20, B26, B28, B29, B38, B39, B40, B41
Here is an XDA Article linking to pdadb echoing the same information about the AL00.
Depending on your US Carrier you may get LTE with the AL00 model. For instance, AT&T runs LTE on B7 which the AL00 model supports. However, I see no matching bands for T-Mobile's LTE bands with the AL00.
YMMV, but the phones are different

No, they're not different. Those specs are wrong.
Here are the official specs from Huawei China's site.

Google works on the Chinese version if you install the add-on, yes, but the ideal thing to do is rebrand it to an international variant, so that things like google location, google by long-pressing home key, etc work.
I wanted the 128GB version, so I bought a Chinese version, and rebranded to European version.

@duraaraa Would you mind please helping me.... I have the Chinese variant mate 9 with l29 firmware in the US. But I haven't had the success you've had. My mate 9 doesn't seem to be supporting the same bands as the l29 variant (b2, b4, b5 or b17) as I'm unable to get any 4g/LTE on at&t. All I've been able to connect to is hspa. I don't know what to do. Not having good speeds is horrible and has been really taking away from an otherwise good experience with this phone. Thanks in advance.

Maybe your sim card is the problem, maybe your settings are the problem.
I heard of someone who needed to change their sim card to get LTE on AT&T. I suggest going to an AT&T store and asking for help.

I thought the same and just did that today. Needless to say, they had no clue. According to them, everything was set up correctly at the first store I went to to get the phone activated.... They told me today that the APN for 4g LTE is "att nxtgenphone" but my phone gets no service upon choosing it. It only works when selecting "att phone", which is hspa. I'm truly at a loss.
Do you know what sim that person had to change to? I got my sim from the at&t store last week.

Hey everyone,
the new Zenfone 6 is amazing, besides the FlipCamera it has nearly everything (big battery, microSD, 3,5 mm headphone,...).
Just one thing irritates me: there are three Versions A, B and C, as one can see here under "Network Standard"
https://www.asus.com/Phone/ZenFone-6-ZS630KL/Tech-Specs/
So can someone tell me what that means? Like if I get the European version A (with Band 20), will I than for instance not be able to use it in the USA for telephone / SMS?! Or just not LTE / can I still use it like on UMTS? No LTE at all or just not certain carriers?
Hope someone can make it clear to me, thanks in advance
You'll be able to use it anywhere, it's just there's slightly less band coverage, so some networks in some countries would be nixed.
See Kimovil.com for network compatibility.
Gearbest currently have the 6GB / 64GB Version C (most bands) for €495.
It means you'll have to be sure to verify you get the version with the bands needed for your particular carrier. You have to be very careful and verify before buying as it seems with the ZenFone 5Z, for example, sellers don't always properly clarify which version they're selling.
You need to find out which of the main bands your phone carrier uses then match them up to one of the versions. I use AT&T prepaid, so for for example I need a phone with coverage for bands 2,4,5,8, and 17 if I recall correctly.
If some bands aren't covered you won't have LTE in that area, as not all areas you're in are using the same network frequency bands. Therefore coverage can get worse when you travel with a phone without full band support.
Checked out the bands available on the Asus site you linked (thank you very much BTW) and it seems they are missing bands 66(extension of band 4) & 71 (600mhz frequency) so it seems like it may work okay on TMobile.
What do you guys think if those two bands are missing? Will it be detrimental to daily use or not really? Currently on an OG Pixel and this Asus offering is looking like a future purchase!!

Yes, as long at the other bands are supported (which they should be) it will drop to 3G/4G or whatever. That's why people using some Chinese phones for example in the USA can use everything but LTE.
You might
need to check however about VoLTE, I think. I don't have T-Mobile but you should read more about that as I've seen it mentioned in XDA & other places.

I only see the A version there. Where did you find the C version?
This device just hit my radar... looks like we might have an upgrade winner!
For Tmobile US, C model is the way to go. The two highest bands that are missing with this device would get you better signal indoors / less interference, but I am not sure how far along that tech even is.

By highest bands do you mean 66 and 71? The only phones that use band 71 at the moment are Samsung s8 Active and LG V30. I currently have an OG Pixel and it does not use 66 or 71 and I get great coverage in the East coast even when going north into the mountains.

Yep, those are the two. Those two are still relatively new, and general Tmo coverage continues to improve here in Colorado.
I imagine that once the phone is sold on the asus.com website that particular variant will support all the main carriers LTE bands. I would be surprised if there were any major issues with that otherwise what's the point of even selling it in the USA?

Yes, for example in the case of the 5Z I just ordered (to get me by since I desperately need a phone with a better camera & no OLED to cause eye strain) the bands listed for phones at the Asus USA online store cover AT&T properly and to the best of my knowledge T-Mobile as well.
I figured out that they don't list phones there that aren't USA network compatible. I still check, regardless, just to feel 100% sure but that's what I found.
It's the 3rd party sellers you really need to be careful about and always verify.
The OnePlus 7 pro has bands 66 and 71.
This probably would have been my first choice until I noticed the different versions. With more and more manufacturers choosing to release single, global bands phones, I really don't understand why Asus insist on continuing to release regional versions of their phones.
Back in the days when everyone made regional models, I had the Padfone Infinity 2 and it was a great phone (until a late OTA release have it the new ZenUI, which was promptly removed). After reading that the latest ZenUI 6 has been slimmed down to an almost stock Android experience, I thought it might once again be similar to what Asus provided before ZenUI came along and that I can now once again consider Asus phones. Wrong!
I spend time in both Europe and Asia and there is no version that covers both areas major LTE bands. So Asus will have to remain on the list of phones to ignore.

I'm in the same position. The C version covers everything I need except for Band 20 which is a necessity throughout Europe. The A version has Bamd 20 but won't work on US LTE. They did the same thing with the Zenfone 2 and inexplicably mixed up the bands regionally. I'll stick with my NexS for now but keep an eye on this phone in case the Limited edition they usually release solves the problem.

I don't want the OP7. This isn't the OP7 forum.
I'm looking for a new budget phone and this one seems perfect, but will it be available internationally? If yes, how long will it take?
See Y're from Netherlands, since some important LTE bands for Europe are missing (Band 20), we need a global version made for us.

There actually is a global version, but I don't know how long it would take to actually get outside of India..

Hi there, hoping someone can help with an answer;
I'm considering buying a Chinese market version of either the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro or Mi 10 Ultra but just wanted to make sure that I'll continue to get decent 4G coverage (and hopefully even 5G coverage) on Vodafone UK.
I realise the CN version of the phone doesn't support or have band 20 which from what I've googled so far is 800Mhz.
I have no idea how phone signal actually works, so with this missing band, will I still get full coverage from the remaining bands the phone does support; B1, B3 and B7?
Does it mean that with 75% of the bands, I'll only get 75% coverage? Do certain phone masts only broadcast in B20, meaning I'd get zero 4G signal if the masts my phone uses fall into that scenario?
I'm a complete Layman with all this stuff (as I'm sure you can probably tell from the above ) so was hoping someone could help me out before I commit to spending a load of money on a phone that wont work here in the UK.
Thank you.

I don't know how Vodafone compares to Three here in the uk, but I've owned quite a few Xiaomi phones , and haven't really noticed any difference in ones that have B20 or not.

Thank you for the reply,
So some of the Xiaomi phones you've had have been Chinese import ones?
And there was no difference in 4g performance Vs global Xiaomi phones? (Just asking coz global versions do have band 20 - 800Mhz)
Thanks.

Yes, but I'm on Three and it might be location dependent too, but I've never had a problem getting 4g on phones with no band 20.
Check what bands Vodafone use compared to Three.
You can buy a global Mi10 Pro with band 20, though the non pro seems easier to get hold of.

That's great, I'll double check the differences in bands used between Three and Vodafone.
Finding a global Mi 10 Pro has been impossible so far, but fingers crossed......
Thanks very much again, really appreciate it.
