G930F and Squaretrade - will they insure it? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

I'm looking to purchase the international G930F on Amazon. I know those models don't have a U.S. warranty available for them. I've seen mixed messages in various comment sections talking about how Squaretrade will still cover it. Does anybody have any experience with Squaretrade and these types of devices? Do you think they'll cover it?
TIA

I have a G930FD and was wondering the same thing. Here's what I found out today, after four hours of phone calls:
- T-Mobile will insure it (through Ausurion) with a $175 deductible. If you attempt to buy insurance more than 14 days after you buy the phone, you have to wait 60 days to file a claim. However, your coverage will start immediately.
- Square Trade will not cover any carrier-unlocked phones.
- Samsung Protection Plus will cover your phone *if and only if they can validate the IMEI*. I'm stuck in an endless loop of them trying to validate mine. The IMEI is valid, but they can't match it to a model number in their system.
- Samsung Repair Services has the same issue as Protection Plus.
If anyone has any information to the contrary or knows how to get warranty or repairs done by Samsung for the G930F or G930FD, PLEASE do share!

Squaretrade warranties, seeking feedback

Who has or have directly known anyone that has purchased a third-party insurance/warranty from squaretrade? I ask because I read good things about their warranties but can not find "real" (actual people on this board or elsewhere) who can give testimony for either good or bad.
I purchased a Sprint branded Touch Pro (using it on Verizon) from ebay, and it came in immaculate condition and fully functional as the seller stated. At the time, I thought the squaretrade warranty offered by the seller on ebay was a scam, but for $48 I figured it was cheap insurance. I know sometimes parts fail and as luck has it, the USB charge/sync port failed. I am in no way blaming the seller and am not going to try to scam my money back from them. Verizon will not touch it as it is not a device they sell technically and Sprint won't touch it either as I do not have a line of service with them.
HTC will not warranty it for free as I am not the original purchaser, and offer repairs at an estimated cost at or above what I paid for the device off ebay.
I filed a claim with squaretrade as my warranty states I am entitled to, and they promptly approved my claim and emailed me a pre-paid UPS return shipping label and claim they will have it repaired "usually within five days of receiving the device". I boxed it up, filled out the simple form they required and shipped it off.
Now this being my first time using this company and their service, up to this point I am pleased with them. Their customer service seems to be on par with Asurion and other types of services I have used in the past. I will be more than happy to update this thread when I receive my device back in working order and give a rating here.
Thanks for reading this rather long post, and I ask anyone who has dealt with them in the past to chime in with any feedback, good or bad regarding Squaretrade and their services.
Have you received the phone back yet? If so/if not - remember to update us on this!
I was wondering if you got the phone back from squareTrade yet.
I would like to use them but like you would like to know that there are real people out there who are satisfied with them.

[Q] Warranty/Insurance Plans for Used Phones

I have searched extensively about options to place a warranty plan for a used phone, but can't seem to find much. I just bought a LG G2 from Swappa for my wife and although it was at a good price ($260) from a reputable seller, I'd like some type of protection. Although the phone is reported as in "almost mint" conditions, I guess I'll never know how it was treated before.
I usually use SquareTrade for warranties. But so far, I've called them and confirmed that only used items purchased in Ebay are covered by them. This pretty much takes them out the table for Swappa purchases. Had to dig through several layers of pages in their website to find that in writing, even after their customer support claimed it wasn't there to be begin with.
The only other company I've seen offer a warranty without needing a new purchase is GoCare for $69/1-year or $129/2-years. Their terms state: "Regardless of whether your device is new or used, as long as it is 100% functional with no prior problems, issues or damage, you may purchase coverage if available for Your device." They have a good BBB rating and...apparently, they cover rooted phones too.
Amex also covers purchases up-to 10K for 1 year after manufacturer warranty for free. Unfortunately, it doesn't cover accidental damage, which is more likely to happen on a mobile than manufacturer defects.
Any suggestions, other options I didn't consider? What are you guys using for used phones purchases?
Some background info: My wife and I are original unlimited-data Verizon customers. We've taken good care of a couple of old Droid Bionics and never had to upgrade until now, when her speaker started crapping out. Mine is still good, rooted with frozen bloat-ware, it's still doing decently. I'm not about to pay $30/month more to Verizon for the cheapest shared-data bracket we fit into. Screw them.

[Q] eBay Buyer Protection Experiences?

I recently bought a phone off of eBay and found that it is financed and the seller won’t be paying off the phone. This is going to be blocked and unusable on my carrier’s network. I have opened a case with eBay and they will likely side with me as the seller misinformed me on the status of the device.
Does anyone have experience returning devices through eBay’s buyer protection policy? Is there any chance that I will return the device to the seller after eBay has sided with me, only to have the seller not send me my money back? Or does eBay automatically send the money back?
If there’s any chance with me ending up phone-less and money-less, I’d rather play it safe and sell it on CL at a loss to someone who could use it for parts or unlock it for another carrier.
Thanks

Warranty Voided DO NOT buy a Gear S2 Online (or any other Samsung product)

I purchased my Gear S2 online from Best Buy. The screen failed during the warranty period. I called Samsung, they refuse to honor the warranty because the receipt from Best Buy does not have the serial number of the watch on it. I'm willing to bet that most of you don't have the serial number of your watch printed on the receipt. It's almost impossible for online retailers to record this, as they all use picn-n-pack fulfillment centers.
I will NEVER purchase another Samsung product again.

Surely your first point of call would be to go back to Best Buy and explain your situation?

Of course I tried that.
Calls to Best Buy = 5 (Time spent on phone = 3.5 hours)
Calls to Samsung = 7 (Time spent on phone = 6.25 hours)
Trips to Best Buy = 2
Trips to Samsung store = 2
Days spent dealing with issue 21
Final resolution, Best Buy replaced the watch and gave me a gift certificate for the trouble.
That's not the point. The point is that I'm willing to bet there are tens of thousands Gear S2 purchases that the serial # is not recorded for. Most electronics retailers only record the serial # or IMEI number on cellular transactions. The non 3G gear S2 does not have an IMEI number.
Samsung is beyond pathetic, their support staff are stuck inside a system of call centers with no access to other departments, no email, no ability to call a customer back. I was getting close to the end of my warranty so it was very obvious what they were trying to do. Make the customer go away until the warranty expired so they didn't have to honor it.
Best Buy is one of the largest retailers of Samsung products in North America (probably the world). Serial numbers are used in global manufacturing to trace production and distribution. There's no way in hell that Samsung doesn't know that the watch was sold to Best Buy. They must have logistics records linking that serial number batch to Best Buy. At the very least, they must know the watch was sold in North America and should be covered under standard warranty terms.
Furthermore, I have the original box, shipping documents, and receipts from my online purchase. It would only take a moment for someone at Samsung to look at the paperwork and then notice that I added the device to my Samsung account on the same day the watch was received. I'm sure the Gear App uploaded a ton of device and personal information to Samsung's server when I created the account and continued to use it.
Plain and simple... Samsung knows I bought the device from a reputable store in the US and they refuse to honor the warranty.

Samsung Customer service is absolute crap I agree! It's a real shame as their products are outstanding so totally let down by the non existent support (don't get me started with my Note 7 recall experience!). As much as I hate Apple they do at least (AFAIK) appear to care for their customers.
Consumer law here in the UK is probably better than the US, as I had my Gear S repaired under warranty and they didn't even need to see a receipt!
Anyhow, I am glad to hear you got it sorted.

I can't believe they are able to get away with this in the U.S. If Best Buy hadn't taken care of me, I was willing to go full lawyer on them. Samsung has a lot of problems with their service and support. They make good ****, but they just don't understand how to offer a full package or "ecosystem" as Apple likes to call it.
That is wierd, I got a refund from Samsung on an S2 with a receipt that did not have a serial number on it.

Can Samsung Replace a Galaxy S7 Battery Out of Warranty (For a Cost)?

Hi,
I'm thinking of buying a used Galaxy S7. I'm concerned about how long the battery was used, etc., and was wondering if I could send the phone to Samsung in the United States to have the battery replaced. Presumably, it will be out of warranty. Questions:
1. Can Samsung replace the battery? If so, how do I find out the cost and the procedure to do this?
2. What if I got a Canadian-based S7 (the SM-G930W8)? Can I still send it to Samsung here in the US to have the battery replaced?
3. Is there a way to find places authorized by Samsung to do the replacement? I don't want some place that will do a bad job or use an already used battery.
Thanks. I greatly appreciate your time!

Yeah, but the only problem is that I'm interested in getting one of the Canadian models because it has an unlockable bootloader, has an Exynos processor, and more Canadian and American band support (according to frequencycheck.com). I can get the battery replaced in Toronto, but it's more expensive than doing it in the US. One place in New Jersey charges $45 for everything. I contacted that store and they told me they don't accept mail-ins from me. I'd have to get the service request approved by Samsung and they send me a box and a shipping label to send the phone in NJ. I could, however, do a walk-in with that store. It makes no sense.
I contacted Samsung and they gave me a link to look up service center locations. So I put in my zip code and 0 results came up. 0 results nearby. That's because my zip code is outside a certain range. It won't even give me the nearest one, even though obviously service centers exist in the US. You have to type other zip codes. It's so stupid. And they probably won't even approve of a battery replacement in the US because of my Canadian model phone. I'll have to wait until the next time I'm in Toronto. All S7's are more or less the same, same battery tech, etc. What difference is there?
Hey I asked the official Samsung store back in July about replacing my phone battery, they said because it's out of warranty it would cost me like 180 + tax. I didn't find it to be worth it. But a few weeks ago, I went to this shop in Square One Missisauga, Mobile Klinik, they charged me 100+ tax to get the phone battery replaced with the original glue so the phone is still IP-68 certified water resistant. You can try and see if you have such Samsung certified shops nearby, or try this place in Toronto the next time you're here. They have another shop in Vaughan mills as well.
Good Luck! ?

Thanks. Do you know if these places use genuine Samsung, brand new never used batteries? Where do they get their batteries from? Are they an authorized Samsung center? How do I know if I can trust them?

Yup they are authorised Samsung repair center. They said it was an OEM battery. They give a receipt as well and a 1 year warranty on the battery. So if any problems arise due to the battery, I can go to them and they will fix it.
Dont you think its funny that people come on here to ask question while 1 email or call to the samsung support would have given awnsers to all of them under few minutes? no samsung wont replace the battery for free under warranty and replacement here in euro is around 60 to 80 euro.s

Yes, I contacted Samsung customer support as well. However, I like getting information from actual customers because sometimes these companies will give inaccurate information.
Also, I never asked if Samsung will replace the battery for free under warranty. If you read the title of my thread, it says "Out of Warranty (For a Cost)". Don't you think it's funny that people come on here to criticize a thread without first reading the title?
