Creating digital magazines for Android - Android Apps and Games

Hello,
First let me say that I am not a developer/scripter. I teach graphic design and would like my students to be able to create a digital magazine. As a graphic designer with no programming experience whatsoever, I thought one of you might know how I can take all the pages we've created (each as a separate image in Photoshop) and cluster all the pages of the project together so that the end user can swipe through each page of the magazine. Perhaps it's simpler that what I'm thinking, but I haven't done this before. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Multiple choice quizzes and maker for WM6/Desktop

Hey community
I'm Pete and although I've been registered for quite some time now this is my first post so: Hello everyone!
I've been searching my butt off in order to find a multiple choice quiz application for WM6. I've looked at a bunch of stuff and dug around in sourceforge too but no luck. As I use a lot of freeware apps I'm perfectly happy with on my PPC I wouldn't mind at all to use another one. But if there's a feature rich commercial version I wouldn't mind paying either.
So: I'm looking for a software which would allow me to take (multiple choice) quizzes. The possibility to make quizzes on my own (preferably on the desktop PC) is a must. Embedded pictures/sounds would be a big plus.
Does anyone know of such an application?
Have you looked at MondoPondo?
Am not sure if you can author your own quizzes but it may be possible...
Hey rjcb23
I've never heard of MondoPondo before and just had a look at it. As far as I can tell quizzes aren't editable which they should be. Besides, according to the faq it seems to be a complete multi player game and I intend to play alone to kill time when I'm on a train, plane etc.
Nevertheless, thanks a lot for the reply.
Anyone have any other ideas?

Creating Live Wallpapers

I was wondering if anyone on here has tried making a live wallpaper. What kind of programming knowledge is needed to do this? Java, graphic design, etc? I would like to try and make my own wallpaper.
Thanks
p.s. If anyone has sucessfully created one could you hit me up on gchat? thanks
mike.gorman87 at gmail dot com
you should check out the thread (Live Wallpapers)
Hope this helps, can't wait to see what cool wallpaper you come up with.
You basically need some Java/Android and some graphics programming experience. See here for more info: http://developer.android.com/reference/android/service/wallpaper/package-summary.html
(I haven't made or started making a live wallpaper, but just found that by searching the reference section of developer.android.com)
this is a lost cause. I can't even get the sdk to run on my computer. Something about java. Idk.
You have to implement a wallpaper engine class, which is what is going to draw whatever you want to draw and a wrap it in a wallpaper service. For the engine you will want to manipulate a surface object to which can draw with the provided api or just manipulate pixel by pixel.
you should try to have a look at googles sdk install howto. It's a good idea to develop with eclipse, it's free, integrated and will make your life easier once your project takes on a bit of complexity.

Resizing and relocating images/text (similar to powerpoint), on android

Hey all i'm a budding programmer under the tutelage of a more experienced programmer and we're kinda at odds
Basically i thought of a concept of developing an application that allows users to create presentations, and on the back end allowing the user to resize and relocate the images/text on screen so that they can freely design each page of their presentation. now it's not entirely like powerpoint, i know powerpoint can do a whole lot more, but this feature alone is where my mentor and i disagree.
My mentor tells me it is an incredibly difficult feat to do on Android and would take months just to implement a feature that allows users to relocate and rescale images and text (jsut to clarify, i mean in powerpoint for example when you insert an image you can drag the image to make it bigger or smaller, and also drag it anywhere on the screen)
I'm currently using a virtual android emulator to tinker with the interface and learn the ropes, but i'm wondering if maybe i'm getting too ahead myself in thinking that this feature could be implemented, and isn't as difficult as my mentor is making it out to be
Any feedback would be reallyy appreciated.
bump!! any advice?
bump, bump bump it up!

[discussion] THINK DIFFERENTLY

Hello everyone and thank you for your attention in the meantime!
We already notice that I am using Google Translate to communicate a bit 'better with you ... unfortunately my English is bad ...
With this question I would ask some of your impressions about the development of new ROM for Android.
I unfortunately delivery a bit 'at a disadvantage because I'm not a developer but just a noob playing with phones and test the different solutions that you offer through your releases.
Indeed, from this point of view I can say that I have tried almost all the main ROM and hybrid versions with kernel taken here and there.
But I've always noticed that the experiences of use, graphically speaking (UI), always remain similar, because the part of louncher is never developed, but the aim is to create a very user interface customization through changes color and background or placement of the elements.
For me it is not easy to explain, because I know that the topic is vast and Android is famous for it to be customizable, but my question is this: why do not you propose something really different and complete? A new ROM and can express a different concept of "personalization" ..
I think to some Louncher, type Listener (which I'm using now and I must say I really like it despite some bugs), or Splay (as a concept that I liked very much!), Or other similar but are not always reflected among users .. .
You may think that they are not customizable as it is for example Paranoid ROM that allows you to change many aspects of the UI are different ... but .. I do not know how to explain it .. try to focus on each other and to give news!
So I would suggest to you that you created ROM and the main team: why do not you join to create something new that is stable, fast and creative?
You have very capable graphics, you are the masters of code, so why not go beyond what is android now and try to find the best that each of you has to offer to create something extraordinary?
I'm sure each of you has at least once thought, "how I wish that notifications appear in a different way" (as the team made it through Holo Paranoid ..!).
So .. create something .. UbuntuPhone style but also beyond .. looking for a concept to follow .. for example the samsung has developed its own theme focusing it on the nature .. but then: why not develop a UI based on a tree ? Or on a leaf! Do you understand?
I know it's a giant work but you are the best community of developers for mobile phones and I am sure that if you join forces, you can do a job never seen before ... because you can have a continuous feedback with millions of Android users who can help you in your work on ideas, tips, feedback, etc.!
What do you think?
Thank you for your attention!
I will to try to give to you (how much "to" :silly an idea about my theard:
so I will image the UI like an Infograph or a white pepper. And image in this space something as an virtual ambient thet will be familiar to "costumers" (sorry for the word but I don't know which one to use) and it's can be something of real live, like a desk with paper, pens and so on, that each one of them rappresents a category of apps. For exemple, the calculator rappresents the calculator'app!
So, if you like to change subject you can image a small city as "desktop" of the phone where the apps are graphites on the wall and ther's a person that walks in differents ways for change the differents views!
Or you can image the apps like "animals" that they grow older if the app will not use for a long time! (image the game "poo") and you can have all this animals in different fences divided into different category...
I can go on for years to give some ideas...but the concept is: create a new way of UI!
Something of different that can change the way of we use the phone! A new way that make older the other louncher! A new way that allow the developers to create differents wolrds!.. And integrate each of this ecosystem with utilities like weather (the weather can change in the "desktop" if change in real life...or can change the time with sun and moon! and so on..)!
Or you can think about a something of more easier, like a real infograph where the apps are in a white space and the user can choose the way to connect them and he can move in this space with different effect or with different way (like drag the screen or using some arrows that indicate the ways to move)...
So...something of new! The only problem can be define a commons libraries that allow to create this UI.
I think about HTML 5 and it's ability to be flexible...I know that java is more complicated but maybe can be a way to streamline the code!
Let me know what do you think about and if it can be possible, on your opinion! :highfive:

[APP][4.0+] memosaic: A Neat Note Taking App

Hi everyone,
Thank you in advance for taking the time to check out our new Android app: memosaic.
We built "memosaic" with the goal of making it easier for users not only to note down their thoughts and ideas on their mobile, but to make it also easier to re-arrange those memos in a visual structure that can add logical relations among content of the memos, or simply a visual layout for clean and organized memo.
While the above scenario is the idea behind the app, we think the current implementation is simple enough to allow much more creative ways of using it.
Since the early days after releasing to Google Play, most of downloads have been from Japan, but we believe the concept is universal,
and we would love to get feedback from as many of you as possible. Hopefully some would share the same enthusiasm for the app as we do.
App Features:
1. Can take notes by typing texts, importing photos from gallery, or directly from camera app
2. Allow to arrange the pieces of memo in a visual tree structure with constant spacing for better overall visibility.
3. Can copy/cut/paste or swap memo pieces, we call sheets, to re-arrange the content of the note.
Download link:
Could not post link, so please search for "memosaic" on Google Play.
package name is co.memosaic.mg. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Feedback is most welcome.
Hi everyone,
Big thanks to those who already checked memosaic out.
Your honest feedback and function requests are the most welcome.
Thank you for the time.
Sincerly,
Team memosaic
I really like the concept of this, being aesthetically pleasing is a huge plus as well.
The one thing i'm picky about is the ability to get data out, do you have any export possibilities planned? preferably in some way that is readable by other software (whether it be on a computer or android)? maybe html or xml?
I really don't like using an app for a long period of time, then finding out it has turned into abandonware and there is absolutely no way of exporting it in a human-readable format aside from yanking whatever database it uses internally and trying to reverse engineer a way to export it.

Yes, yes! Exporting data out is definitely a key feature that we are taking a little time to get it right. HTML is the format we are targeting for, so stay tuned.

We have a few ideas on how to backup/share memosaic notes, and we will try to make it as smooth as possible. With you +1 request we will work even harder on this.
Thank you again
Team memosaic
Thanks for the reply! I'm excited to see it progress, the functionality has grown on me ten-fold since I started tinkering around with it, the grid system is ingenious
