[Completed] SoftBrick and Clone image/rom revival - XDA Assist

Can i back up the rom image of one of my devices and use that to revive a soft-bricked device of the same model?
If so what software should i learn about and use?

Hello,
We wouldn't recommend doing that.
Please follow a working known way to fix your soft bricked device.
May I please know the make and model of your device?

My device is an LG. Model "l21g". The name is "Destiny", by Tracfone for Walmart's Straight Talk service. Running 5.0.1
Be aware though it can be difficult to google the model name. Below are a list of variants the device can be referred to:
- LGL21G
- LG L21G
-LG LGL21G
Yeah it can get kinda annoying. But since my device is clearly not a flagship type, and is merely less than generic, there aren't many people out there publishing fixes for it. How could would i be able to bring my soft-bricked device of the identical model, to work again. It will still bring up the LG logo screen and just stay stuck there. I've been searching for months now and have not found a known working way of fixing it. Especially since it's just another cheap android. The crafted design of the device heavily resembles the design of the G3, where on forums like these [http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/lg-g4-stuck-bootloop-t3268734], i've seen g3's and g4's have a natural booting dysfucntion due to an assumed LG's own lack of quality in hardware design. Of course though, different model will have different methods. I cannot find any other place on the internet offering firmware downloads for my device, except here [http://bbs.gaodi.net/Firmware-669539-1-1.html]. And you can see that i've tried reaching out to them as well. But with literary not responses. Not even from that site's support team, with regard to how their point system works to reveal download links to the zip files. Chances are its another shizzy site filled with malware.
So if you have any idea on how to help me. I'd be happy to try almost anything.

[Q] Please help with OS update for Aspera RT3 tablet

I am hoping that is the right place to post this thread.
Two weeks ago I have bought an Aspera RT3 tablet to run Yamaha diagnostic applications. Unfortunately one of them will not run on a Android version 4.2 or less. The version installed on my tablet is 4.1.2 .
I have tried to update it but without any success and the manufacturer apparently doesn't have newer version of ROM for it. All I know is the RT3 runs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 (MSM8625Q) chipset.
As it is, the tablet is completely useless to me so I would be very grateful if someone could find a solution to my problem. I am happy to pay for the service of course.
Thanks in advance.
Ever get anywhere on this? We have some aspera devices that I would like to root also... Tempting to just grab SuperSU and flash in recovery but not sure what end results would be...

Not a bit. I still have the tablet but can not use it. The manufacturer sys that they "looking for a solution" but it looks more and more like a dead end. I would be very grateful if someone could still help with this.

Wow, you actually had contact from Aspera? Well done. They have been pretty ****ty for me to be honest. We have an ongoing software problem, I have sent them a huge load of logcats etc, they have not done a single thing to help and now just seem to screen my emails to them. Really surprising that a small company can survive without offering decent support. Thought that was how the pipped the big guys, by providing individual customer service to their small user base.
I am trying to get a refund on the devices as I am sicking of the issues we are having and without their help they will continue to occur.

I want to learn more.

Hi everyone.
Me and the wife have Samsung phones and what I usually do is buy a sim free phones a lot cheaper from different countries which usually comes without the extras like Wi-Fi calling ECT, but what I usually do is flash network stock firmware which gives us what we need.
My problem is that I only know how to flash firmware on Samsung phones and windows phones (which we don't use anymore). Even though samsung are doing well and making very good phones these days I don't want to be stuck buying Samsung just because I don't know how to flash stock on other Android devices. I would like to try a pixel, HTC, Essential phone and ect but I want to be able to buy it cheaper and be able to flash stock firmware.
Samsung seems to have a massive advantage with companies like Sammobile and Odin but I wouldn't know where to start with the other Android devices.
So finally my question (if you put your answer to match the right number be easier to understand)
1. Where do you get stock firmware for other devices (if there different places for each manufacture then please tell me all the place and who covers who)
2. Are there different Odin types of software for each phone company.
3. How do I do it and how hard is it compared to using Odin.
I know there is lots of video and other threads with this type of information but I find posting a new question makes it very personal to my situation and I know the info I get will help my better than reading someone elses thread and working out how their advice given applies to me. At the same time, I will try and make this thread as universal as I can so we can maybe help others in similar situations.
Thanks guys I hope I can learn

Flash G930F Oreo onto G930L?

I have a South Korean G930L (LG U+ Carrier). I don't expect it's official oreo update to come out for another 1-2 months at least.
So i intend to flash the UK Oreo rom onto my phone via ODIN. Will i be fine or will there be issues?
This is the ROM i intend to flash: https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s7/SM-G930F/BTU/download/G930FXXU2ERE8/219215/
Umm, yes there would be problems, wrong model S7.... kinda obvious lol

Actually I've done this kind of thing a lot in the past, so i know it works. It's just that with time some things change, so i have to confirm before i proceed.
Both the S7 G930F & G930L are the same phone. S7. Both have the same chipset (Exynos) & specs. There's really no reason for it to be incompatible.
Heck, there are even tutorials online that guide you how to upgrade any Exynos S7 to Oreo using the UK firmware. So it's a confirmed thing.
The more you know.

Matters not if they have the same hardware, but go ahead, flash yourself a brick if you know more than most
I`ll give you a tip that will either save you from further embarrassment, or a very expensive brick, "Bootloader"
If they were identical, why would there be different firmware for different models?
If you had even Googled your question first you would have found older threads on XDA and different forums giving you the same answer as I have

You're speaking based on theory. I'm speaking based on facts.
In the past, I've converted numerous Sony Xperia Japanese variant phones into their International versions with ZERO issues. All it takes it knowledge, intelligence and guts to take risks.
So i guess I'll stick with my guts & brains instead of listening to someone who is spreading false information based on theories.
Mods may close this thread. This forum is as useless as ever. Adios!

Umm, I am speaking from experience and facts, you are speaking from something you wish was true, and maybe a dodgy article somewhere on the net that would likely brick your phone
But as I say, go ahead, flash F firmware to your L device, then come back here and show us the result, but don't ask for help unbricking it

Oppo A73 or F5 Youth Root?

Hello Xda People,
So I recently joined xda cause I need help, I recently bought a OPPO A73 in Australia (I live here), but I found out that in some other countries (Mostly Asian countries) it is also known as OPPO F5 Youth. Now, I've had this phone for around 5 months now and putting it straight out there, the software is Sh*t, I have had multiple hick ups and performance drops, it is a joke. I tried looking all over the internet for software updates for this specific phone but sadly there is non and this is the same story with rooting the phone, there is completely nothing about this A73. I have come here to find out if anyone has any idea how to root this phone or at least change the software to stock android (Although that might seem impossible as I don't now what the bootloader is) or even lineage (They do have OPPO as a brand they support but without a model ID its hard to tell if my phone model is supported). If there is way please let me know cause colour OS 3.2 is just slow and utterly disgusting to operate on. If you do need any information about my phone (CPU info, model number, hardware etc) please let me know and I'll post it upon request.
Thanks
Rainer
Same issue here in NZ.
Your model ID will probably be CPH1725 for the A73. To check go to Settings, About Phone.
I've been looking around and there seems to be ways to root but the TWRP recovery has to be ported (which has a few bugs and risks itself), can't seem to find a believable confirmation this method has worked either for the AU/NZ models.

Until on today 10/09/2022, we don't have any methods to get root access for CPH1725. The device is quite ok but if I cannot get access for it, it is quite useless.

Are there any phones actually worth rooting anymore?

Due to a little frustration I decided to create a whole thread for this.
I suck at computers and I have no idea what I am doing so I ended up bricking my device lmao.
In theory, the thought of rooting your device, and installing a custom OS sounds great! (Like communism) but when put in practice never really works out. The reason for that (I think) is because there are so many different versions, models, and brands. I end up spending all my time trying to refine my search to the right software and versions, and then when I do, I am stuck with some stupid site like (every damn rom site) with a 20kb/s download rate, and a page full of ads! Why? Because they are storing like 2 billion different 2GB roms. In my opinion paying for faster download speed from these websites is ridiculous. I don't even know why they offer (you would have to be stupid(like me)).
(tl;dr: Android SUCKS)
So, now to my actual question...
With the release of the Librem 5 phone, there really is not going to be a point to rooting phones anymore, because google with already be decimated from it... But that comes out in April/May and I still need a phone in the meantime.
So.. Are there any cheap phones ($500+/-), that are not a pain in the ass to root? And one that the developers actually care about to actively develop. All I wan't is a phone I can install stock android with root, and that can be installed without google or gapps. Also I live in Canada, which is another reason why it's a pain in the ass to find a decent phone because all our carriers deadbolt their firmware, and bootloaders like their storing the coordinates to some secret location with a pot of gold.

Get something that is not a Samsung, not carrier branded(an international model) and is factory unlocked or can be unlocked.
I suggest you just do some searching to find some devices that you are interested in, then write down the model number of each device and then do some Google searches using those model numbers one at a time to see if a known rooting method exists for each model, then do some Google searching to see if TWRP exists for each model number, then do some searches to see if there are ROMs available for each model number.
We can't predict the future and say which devices will have a rooting method, we can only point you to devices that have already had a known rooting method discovered for that model, you can find that information yourself by doing the Google searches listed below.
To find root methods for the devices:
"Root for (specific device model number here)"
That should find root method for the device in question.
To find TWRP or custom recovery for the devices:
"TWRP for (specific device model number here)"
Or
"Custom recovery for (specific device model number here)"
That should find TWRP or custom recovery if it exists for the device in question.
To find custom ROMs for the devices:
"Custom ROMs for (specific device model number here)"
That should find ROMs if they exist for the device in question.
You might want to consider getting an international device directly from the manufacturer that is factory unlocked or can be unlocked(also known as SIM/carrier unlocked) instead of getting a carrier branded/sold device. Factory direct doesn't come with bloatware and unlocked/unlockable means it should be able to be activated on your carrier network.
Also, make sure the device has a factory unlocked bootloader(this is not the same thing as SIM/carrier unlocked) or can at least be unlocked using a known and verified unlock method. The unlocked bootloader is required if you want to flash custom recovery or custom ROMs.
If you just want to use the stock firmware and modify it to remove the Google stuff, unlocked bootloader won't be required for that. But, if you are going to just modify the stock software already on the device, I will advise you to make sure that the stock firmware for that device is available for download and then download a copy of it just in case you mess something up in the process of removing Google and its components, then you can just flash the firmware on the device to fix it(if you don't screw it up too bad, that is).
I would really recommend that you choose a device that has:
1) an unlocked/unlockable bootloader so that you can flash TWRP on the device
2) has an available downloadable stock firmware so that you can repair the device, if needed
3) has a TWRP recovery available so it can be installed on the device and then used to create a backup of your unmodified stock ROM, then you can modify the device and if you screw something up, you can use TWRP to restore the backup that you create, this will return the device to working condition.

Droidriven pretty much covered it extremely well.
With regards to rooting:
It often can raise the stress levels beyond normal. Set aside time and take each step slowly and deliberately. Some guides can be much worse than others.
PS. Your idea of a cheap phone is at least 3x the cost of my idea of a cheap phone
The Asus Zenfone 6 just released bootloader unlock and kernel source so there should be a fairly healthy dev community when its released in the US.
The librem 5 ?? I dunno , on my list for sure . but hardware specs soundsmeh for the price . And will we be able to install ubuntu software like clementine music play ? jeez if so that would make up for the lack hardware.
looks like 2019 q3 is going to be an exciting time. I want the zenfone 6 but I dunno..... that librem 5 ubuntu phone is going to need to be checked out once rc is released .
