I have a South Korean G930L (LG U+ Carrier). I don't expect it's official oreo update to come out for another 1-2 months at least.
So i intend to flash the UK Oreo rom onto my phone via ODIN. Will i be fine or will there be issues?
This is the ROM i intend to flash: https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s7/SM-G930F/BTU/download/G930FXXU2ERE8/219215/
Umm, yes there would be problems, wrong model S7.... kinda obvious lol

Actually I've done this kind of thing a lot in the past, so i know it works. It's just that with time some things change, so i have to confirm before i proceed.
Both the S7 G930F & G930L are the same phone. S7. Both have the same chipset (Exynos) & specs. There's really no reason for it to be incompatible.
Heck, there are even tutorials online that guide you how to upgrade any Exynos S7 to Oreo using the UK firmware. So it's a confirmed thing.
The more you know.

Matters not if they have the same hardware, but go ahead, flash yourself a brick if you know more than most
I`ll give you a tip that will either save you from further embarrassment, or a very expensive brick, "Bootloader"
If they were identical, why would there be different firmware for different models?
If you had even Googled your question first you would have found older threads on XDA and different forums giving you the same answer as I have

You're speaking based on theory. I'm speaking based on facts.
In the past, I've converted numerous Sony Xperia Japanese variant phones into their International versions with ZERO issues. All it takes it knowledge, intelligence and guts to take risks.
So i guess I'll stick with my guts & brains instead of listening to someone who is spreading false information based on theories.
Mods may close this thread. This forum is as useless as ever. Adios!

Umm, I am speaking from experience and facts, you are speaking from something you wish was true, and maybe a dodgy article somewhere on the net that would likely brick your phone
But as I say, go ahead, flash F firmware to your L device, then come back here and show us the result, but don't ask for help unbricking it

I have in the last month been looking everywhere for methods of rooting this blasted thing.
Yet again samsung is stopping me accessing regular features, things like accessibility permissions...it's ridiculous.
I am sick of the crap in this new android and I can't find a safe method or odin build anywhere.
At this point I really don't care if I trip knox, though maybe that is ignorance and frustration speaking.
What are the risks?
If anyone has a way of rooting this build number please let me know.
My carrier is UK's O2 network if that makes a difference
Let me know any other info you need.
I have rooted many samsungs before so know the general jist.
But this model seems super hard to deal with so please take me through any safe - ish procedire as a newb.
Pleases and many thanks.

I have the exact build number as you, and I rooted pretty simple.
I just used odin v3.10.6 http://odindownload.com/download/Odin3_v3.10.6.zip (Direct Download)
Then flashed Unikernel onto my phone using Odin (Opening with 'AP' of course) https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347808101
(and obviously don't forget to put your phone in download mode!)
Used this method a million times before and never had any problems, should work fine
Been seeing development arising for the s8 and + Sammy devices and root has been achieved and mods can be applied. The question that keeps rolling through my head is why is the S8 and the SD 835 such a hard one to crack as far as being unlocked for custom recovery, mods, roms, performance tweaking. I'm just curious to why this unlock is unachievable and where and what stops it from happening. To me having TWRP installed is a huge safety net and I'll be honest I miss having it. Maybe someone can enlighten me to why this is such a pain in the arse to achieve.

I know what you mean man! It used to be the other way around I'm up in Canada and we've never had locked bootloaders until this phone came around. It's crying shame that you can't use any other Rom except for what it comes with.
Right I'm sure eventually it'll get unlocked because you have 4 phones that are identical in hardware and the only difference is what the carrier has put in it. Then you have the international version that can be unlocked and they've got development for that version. I'm sure there's way to many smart cookies on here to not happen. They've achieved root and all the other goodies. It'll happen just takes time.

I doubt it ever will be unlocked. The S7 still hasn't been unlocked despite sharing the same hardware across carriers in the US. Damn efuse and secure boot. The other issue is that we wouldn't really have source to do anything and it would be an uphill struggle to get anything substantial.
I talked to Samsung for about an hour about why the bootloader is locked for the US versions of the S7.( I have a SM-G930R4) Most of the time they gave me the run around but I was able to find out that with the Oreo update ,it may be possible to lock/unlock the bootloader. They didn't come right out and say it but that's what it sounded like to me. They were saying something about a "security issue" that is supposed to be fixed in Oreo, and that it's within the realm of possibilities. Let's hope they weren't trying to make me feel better, lol. I haven't had a nice phone since 2013,and I was pretty nonplussed to find out we got shafted. I have been using Samsung phones since the original Google Nexus, and have flashed/rooted/customized every single one of them. Customization is important to a lot of people, and Samsung understands this. Why'd they have to give in this time? ><
Highly unlikely
Samsung talk out of their rears when you contact them, usually just to get you to go away I find
Well that's corporations in general right? Lol. I don't want to get another phone if I don't have to. I rather like this one. I guess we'll find out in the coming weeks ,eh?
I have a screenshot of part of the conversation, but it seems like I can't post the link or embed it. Basically it was them feeding me a line of garbage about none of their USA model phones having unlockable bootloaders, and I corrected them. They also said that it was Qualcomm's fault but I can't see how. Don't they use their own bootloaders?
I guess I could always try to trade my S7 for a S6 lol.
I don't know the details of why they are locked or who's fault it is, but they're right that none of the USA S7s have unlocked bootloaders (Snapdragon Models)
It's the Exynos International S7s that are unlocked (G930F, G930W8)
Samsung will have the bootloader encryption key, so they could have added a feature to unlock it like they did with the Exynos versions, no idea why they haven't
If you want an unlocked S7 I'd sell that one and get the G930F
They didn't say it would never be unlocked. What I got from the exchange was that it may happen during the next OTA,which I assume is Oreo,or a patch of sorts thereafter. The particular lady I was speaking to implied it was Qualcomm's fault, but I find that hard to believe. I brought up the fact that we're being singled out (for whatever reason) and that customization is quite important to a lot of us.She said "Yes I agree,if you buy a phone it should be yours" So hopefully they do the right thing. I can't very well just sell this phone ,however. It holds sentimental value and was a gift from someone very dear to me.So my only option is ,A) Pray Sammie does right by us,or B) wait until someone hacks it(if it's even possible)
Also from what I've been told and what I've read on multiple forums(XDADev included) our phone carriers pressured Samsung to do it,to cut down on people bricking their phones. From my experience it's pretty hard to completely brick a Samsung. As long as you can get into download mode and flash something via Odin or backup from recovery,it's all good.
I'm running oreo. But soon all carriers will now lock bootloaders latest sprint and Verizon starting , to make it it so no one can change carriers
Not to stir up an old thread, but oreo just rolled out for the sm-g930p yesterday and I noticed that there is the option for OEM unlock. Good news for finally unlocking the bootloader?

Gotcha. I didn't have it on here with nougat though, it didn't show up until I got the oreo update. From what I've read around, that's what it was for.

When I talked to Samsung about it they hinted that would be the case. They didn't confirm or deny it directly, but the way they put it sure alluded to something of the sort.
lets pray ))
Yea so anyway still locked and I honestly don't even need root. I'll just use the unlocked firmware and disable bloat. Rooting the s7 seems arbitrary at this point. If I wanted to I would just trade my s7 USA varient for an international varient if I was really that adamant. S7's are pretty cheap now with the s8 and s9 out on the market.
I have an unlocked phone and the only thing unlocked is the carrier or sim, nothing to do with the bootloader unless you all are suggesting that after the full release of Oreo on all the s7 devices that they may rethink locked bootloader. By then I'll probably just get a new phone. I've lost interest in rooting the s7 but that's probably because there's only three ways around it. Rooting Android 6, rooting earlier versions of Android 7 or getting the xynos s7. I love Oreo more than root on this phone.
I have a Fold 2 from China, which makes it a game breaker in that it locks the Samsung apps store to China's, including related Samsung gear (like the gear S3 watch or buds), which means I have NO access to any actual useful English apps.
This would solve a world of problems for me.

You should be able to BUT make sure the model numbers are the same and that the bootloader is unlocked before flashing a ROM (SoC version MUST match or its bricksville). This will also require a CSC change.
This may also require rooting your phone which will nullify any warranties...
I'd make sure you have read up how to do this and REALLY understand the dangers as this can brick your device.
Also have a a stock ROM on hand to flash back if/when things go sideways.
I tend to find the Chinese region locked variants of phones, though a little cheaper to buy, are NOT worth the effort and risk due to the reason you want to reflash. Warranties are also non-existent due to postage and time constraints.
Again, this could be a major drain of time and effort, not to mention hair pulling, to find yourself back at square one or worse.

Appreciate the honest reply - hell I just appreciate the reply at all, pretty much thought it'd be ignored. What you said makes sense, from all the reading I've done, just TRYING to find an answer to this question, considering info on flashing to other ROMS is pretty much non-existent, it seemed a risk. You all but confirmed this, and I will most definitely take your advice and just give up the venture. Better having a working phone locked to Chinese apps (arg!) than a bricked phone... barely, ha.
Thanks again for the answers mate, truly appreciated.
I downloaded the original software and Troys rom in the SDcard. I made sure they are the right ones for my model, SM-N986U1.
I downloaded Odin to my desktop. I have also rooted twice before. But rooting seems a lot more complicated. I've read several rooting threads and it's confusing. It was hard before, but straight forward.
Please could someone walk me through the process? Or point me to a reliable paid service.

People have rooted the Note 20 and there are ROMs available. Please explain. Did I buy the wrong version of the Note 20?
There is a Snapdragon version and an Exynos version. This dichotomy has been around for a long time for Samsung phones. However, despite being unable to root consider yourself lucky as the Snapdragon has significantly better performance/battery efficiency than the Exynos variant.

There's no easy answer to your question. As others have mentioned if your device came with a recent version of Android then reverting back to the previous bootloader (Ver 1) from the current updated one is next to impossible. I don't believe the paid services folks have been able to get around that either.
Now the Exynos version is a bit more flexible in this regard if you're able to get the right model but here's the conundrum- Since you a have a U1 device which is the U.S unlocked version I'm assuming you're located Stateside. This makes it really difficult to find an Exynos version which supports U.S bands and if you do you'll have to deal with lack of carrier aggregation and various other headaches. You could potentially look for a Honk Kong or another Asian Snapdragon variant but you'll circle right back to where you started from with the same bootloader issues you're currently facing. Dig through the various threads and ask questions there if you still want to pursue it further.
Sorry bud. Not the answers you were hoping for but I hope this helps!
