Can not Crop video - ONLY Stretch - Amlogic S812 Android TVbox and SONY AndroidTV - MX Player

Dear All,
I just bought an Amlogic S812 the Android TV box to replace the old one (Allwiner A31s Android TVbox)
Currently when watching movies with the software MXplayer , it can not Crop the Screen Size to remove black place on top and bottom of screen, it only can use Stretch option to stretch vertically, does not stretch horizontally, so making everything in movies stretch out :crying:
I do not experience this problem on older devices using Allwiner A31s chip.
Pls help me fix this issue
P/S: I face this issue on SONY Bravia 55X9000C Android TV too.
Thank you all.

Anybody??
Same issue with the newest s905x3 chipset, Android 9.0... I don't have all the options in my settings, I can't even place apps on homescreen using Nova Launcher, I can't see the bottom drawer to open all running apps. Do manufacturers modify the Android version they put on these boxes? Is there a way to fix these issues, especially the video player cropping? In my box no player can crop, only stretches vertically, leaving me with an incorrect aspect ratio.

Hi everyone.
This may be a solution.
I get to realise that this thread has a long history and there is no proper answer.
I too had the same problem while using MX player in Android tv. But some video are able to crop view. After many thoughts I get to realise that there are two kind of popular encoding in mkv format.
Videos encoded in H.264 have no problem. But if it is H.265 commonly known as HEVC it will no crop or zoom in.
I currently use H.264 video for maximum use of my tv screen.
Please Google these encoding method for better understanding. There are some interesting comparison between two.
Happy watching

[Q] Videos can be really small

So, for a frame of reference, my last Android device had a screen 5", but 800x480 resolution. The Nexus 5's resolution completely blows it away.
That said, I've noticed something with regard to videos being played using the default video player (I'm not even sure if it has a name). I tried watching some videos from the Engadget App (which, to the best of my knowledge, relies on the default video player to play videos), and to my surprise one of the videos was showing up about the size of a postage stamp. A different video showed up a little larger, but neither scaled up to the full space. I opened both videos up on my old Android and they ran full screen just fine.
My current guess is that the Nexus 5 has a higher screen resolution than the video it's trying to play back and it's playing the video at a 1:1 ratio. Any ideas on what might be able to fix this, or should I sit tight and wait for an update?

[Q] Does Android user interface support 4K UHD resolution?

I'm looking to develop an android app to be used on a 3840x2160 4K/UHD display using an Android miniPC that supposedly supports "4K resolution."
I have a few different Android miniPCs (all Android 4.4) and they all play 4K videos fine. Also, for all of them, the 3840x2160 resolution was selected in the Display settings in HDMI mode . However, when I display a UHD equivalent image using an image viewer, the image looks to be scaled up from a smaller size. When I download apps from the Google Play store that measures the resolution of the device, they all report that the device is displaying at 1080p.
I believe these 4K Android miniPC can decode 4K video, but the user interface is still being displayed at 1080p despite what is selected in the Display settings. There is an article from cnx-software that blames the type of processor for these types of devices not being able to support UHD resolution. (i would provide links, but unable to include them as a new forum user.)
Is it really the processor limiting the device? I find it hard to believe the processor can display 4K video, but unable to support a 4K user interface. So my question is, can Android support a user interface and an app at 3840x2160 resolution? If so what would it take to support it?
Thank you in advance for any insight you can provide.
I have Beelink R28 box and it has the same behavior. It seems that Android doesn't support UHD resolutions and wonder why there are no any information about this.

You can just use pan & zoom functions to achieve the same. BTW, we are adding more controls to zoom function to individually control vertical or horizontal zoom. You may stretch the video as you wish by using the new zoom controls.

Understanding Aspect Ratio (for dummies)

Hello everyone,
I was wondering if someone would be kind enough to show me how to adjust the aspect ratio.
Here are the specifics: I have a Samsung T350 tablet(rooted) and it has built in already the screen mirroring feature. Now, I also have an LG webOS UHDTV (48.5in diagonally). Now, if I send a video file directly to my TV from the tablet (using Quick Connect) aspect ratio adjust automatically. When using either my MX Player Pro or the built in player via screen mirroring (for streaming or simply for better navigation controls) the mirrored result on my TV is small and square looking. I'm certain there is a setting that I can avail myself of. Unfortunately, the Aspect Ratio settings on my TV seem to be disabled temporarily when using Screen Mirroring. I know MX Player has the ability to customize aspect ratio, can i utilize that in some way?? I hope I explained this problem correctly. My apologies if I didnt.

BTW, Regarding the request, we are adding more controls on zoom. With that you can zoom individually with or without locking aspect ratio. So, you can stretch the video as your wish when the horizontal / vertical zooms are unlinked. It will be available on the next version.

We had released those as emergency updates. SO, it doesn't have all the fixes / features we have implemented. MX Player v1.9.0 will bring the feature. Just give us some more time.

Have you tried the custom Zoom function?
It has the options to stretch the video with or without locking the aspect ratio.
yes I have selected and it appears an extra button with x, y + - center a icon i can off on.
And Aspect Ratio custom 10:1, But i can only resize the Video with forced and locked aspect ratio.
I mean it like a pc window that you shrink at the corners. more is not possible.
or It is like paint when you change the size of a picture, Without that to change the aspect ratio.
Same effect. that's why I speak of "forced and locked aspect ratio".

Probably You might have misunderstood the stuffs.
Aspect ratio is basically the ratio of the resolutions in horizontal & vertical directions.
When you stretch the video/Image on one direction, resulting aspect ratio will be different.
If the aspect ratio is locked, if you adjust the one, other other one will be automatically adjusted to preserve the aspect ratio.
Both are possible with MX Player with custom zoom.
If you lock the aspect ratio by using center button, stretching in one direction will automatically stretch on another direction.
If you just disable the center button, you can stretch it on desired direction (horizontal/Vertical).

Oh my God yes you're right, I have tested now on BlueStacks 3.52
I can Manual Strech with this Android Pc Emulator.
In the middle button state bright, I can only automatically stretch on another direction, You say it correct.
But as middle button state dark, I can do nothing. It has to be on the Hardware Player Error ?
And now ?
Nevertheless thanks for the help

Some TV devices don't allow to zoom beyond the fit to screen range.
