Every call I receive is international - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Every number that calls me, the international code applied is the first couple digits of the number.
Example, 518-555-5555
Becomes +51 85 55555
Which is Mexico.
If I add the number to a contact, it's ignored due to area code being recognized incorrectly.
I'm on stock, Sprint phone, network unlocked with Cricket

Change default area code for when dialing out?

Is this possible without actually changing my area code, I just moved to the other coast and get annoyed by having to dial an area code every time I dial a local number, but for the past few years I've had the same phone number and don't want to change and lose all my old contacts... And yes I'm aware I can change it in the text menu but I'm talking about phone calls only, not texts.. Thanks..
I just add area codes to the phone numbers of all my contacts if you call local it don't matter if you add area code so that works for me

Wrong Outgoing SMS Number

Hey guys,
I just added two lines to my T-mo family plan and got these phones for free (had to pay tax). I am currently using an unlocked Galaxy Nexus and when receiving texts from either new line, the thread shows that a number I do not recognize (with a Michigan area code, 313, when we live in San Diego), while the message texts shows the correct phone number (619 area codes).
I've looked thru the message settings and there is no option for "Outgoing SMS Number" and it is NOT a 15digit SIM #. It is a callable phone number, as i called the number and my brother answered the phone...
Thanks in advance for help/suggestions

[Q] International Texting problems

So my dad has the galaxy s4 and is having problems sending text messages internationally. So hes texting another countries number, which sends out. he has the correct outgoing number such as 011-598-**-***-*** but when he gets the text back it changes to 98-**-***-*** and when he respawns it gets a error so how would i fix the issue with the number removing the outgoing verification numbers when he receives a text.

The number 011-598-**-***-*** your dad used is usually for land-line telephone calls. The cellphone uses a "+" followed by country code and cellphone number. The numbers "011-5" could be the IDD access codes for your normal land-line telephone. It will work for telephone calls but not for texting.
When texting internationally, the destination (To) number is in the format: +(country code)(cellphone number) less the ( ).
For example if you were to text me (Singapore country code is 65), you would use this format:
+6512345678+ sign is compulsory for cellphones.
65 is the country code
12345678 is the cellphone number
For your dad's case,
Instead of texting to this number:
011-598-**-***-***
Try texting to this number instead:
+98-**-***-***
I believe the 98-**-***-*** is an Iranian cellphone number (see the link below for the Country codes):

Hope this helps

country code causing text messages to fail

HI everyone.
Sorry for the second post in a few days, but this is an annoying issue
I have a verizon galaxy s6, and I am currently living in Belgium, using belgian sim (carrier BASE). I don't think this issue is unique to the country or the carrier.
The problem I am having is that when I receive a text message from a belgian number, the number that shows on my phone has the country code: +32 xx xxx xxxx. I can get text messages like this, but when I try to reply, the message fails. (this has happened on every number ive tried to respond to.) The only way I can get my texts to send is by making the number into a new contact, and removing the +32 country code. The same goes for when i'm trying to call, I have to remove the country code, if I keep it, the call fails. I've tried turning on and off assisted dialing, and I did a factory reset on my phone. Ive tried dialing US numbers and they have also failed, so it's not forcing the +1 country code on my numbers while calling either.
This is a huge pain, because it forces me to make a new contact for every single new number, even if its not a number I need/want to keep, and go in and adjust it manually.
Thanks for the help, it's very appreciated.
I have the same issue in Albania...i belive you ! It's a very a anoying matter , from that moment i have editet all the numbers i frequently call or text..!

Hi, I'm from Argentina and have had the same issue with sms. In my case, I was able to send sms but cannot reply because the messages comes with +54 (My country Code) before the line number. After 2 weeks claiming to the carrier (Personal), the problem was fixed changing the SIM CARD for a new one. I Hope this can be helpful for you.
Regards.

Having Problems with Carrier Switching?

Starting about 8 weeks ago after owning the phone for more than 2 years, I started missing calls and texts that would only show up after a reboot. People also told me that when they called sometimes, there was no connection and no way to leave a voicemail.
People are usually still 7-digit dialing and texting here. I live in New Mexico and most of the the state is 505 since forever, so people here never think of 10 digit dialing unless it's out of state. After about 5 hours with 2 different Fi tech chats and some research and experimentation, I figured out that when my phone was switching to Sprint, it was getting a "shadow" number with a 214 area code, which is Dallas. When on TMO everything works fine but if it switched to Sprint, I would miss a lot of stuff, and with 7 digit dialing be calling Texas, or sometimes getting notice of an invalid number, and sometimes I couldn't connect to the network at all.
From a reddit thread https://www.reddit.com/r/ProjectFi/c...ile_on_sprint/ that has some other interesting info which seems plausible:
"I think it's because of your Sprint Shadow Number; on Fi, Sprint and US Cellular assign an "invisible" internal number to you so that the towers are able to know who you are, as well as routing your calls properly, among other things. When you dial a 7 digit number, the area code of your phone number is appended to the beginning of the number, that's why they work fine when you dial a local number. However the Sprint number is often times not a local number, and the area code usually differs greatly from that of your actual Fi number, so the 7 digit number is now trying to call somewhere else, probably a number that is invalid."
The codes used to monitor and force a switch to a specific carrier might be google-able, though I haven't found them just yet (I got them from the chat) but using an app called Signal Spy or FiSwitch one can easily monitor and force a switch to a specific carrier without having to memorize and enter the codes, though the codes are available through those apps. Also reading the mountain of reviews you'll see how many people are having problems with Fi carrier switching choices.
I turned off my network reporting in the Fi app and have the Signal Spy app running and so far haven't had any switches to Sprint, though I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I don't know why this just started happening and they couldn't or wouldn't explain it. They just told me, from Bangalore or wherever, to just 10 digit dial, but that doesn't help when people frequently 7-digit dial or text me here. It's New Mexico!
What I've been looking for is a code to lock it on a carrier but haven't figured it out yet, though there to be a possibility here on this page which has a pretty exhaustive list of the codes but none of the codes used through my chat with the Fi tech to reveal connected carrier, change to T-Mobile or Sprint, or repair the network are on any of the lists I've seen so far! They are in those previously mentioned apps, though:

After 2 years of flawless, stress-free usage and glad to be away from the gouging and control of the major carriers, my Fi bubble has burst. Anybody else having Fi heartburn?
