Can't Update to Marshmallow - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I currently have Cyanogen OS version 12.1.1-YOG7DAS2K1. My phone notifies me that there is a new update to Marshmallow. I can download the update, but when I try to install it, nothing happens. I'm taken back to the system updates screen, and it asks me if I want to check for updates. When I check, it says I have the latest version, but I clearly don't.
I'm not a very sophisticated phone user, but a few months ago, I did do something to my phone to recover some texts that I accidentally deleted. I think the software may have rooted my device or something like that. I thought that I reversed everything I did, but I guess maybe I didn't? What are my options without having to delete everything?

Cureently have COS? You running stock?

I did something to recover some deleted texts. It involved downloading a program to my computer and then connecting my phone. I'm not sure if it rooted the phone, but I guess that may be the problem.

Maybe it could've, try flashing factory cos12.1 then flash cos13

[Q] Help: Can't boot to TWRP

Hi guys,
I need your helps. I was currently on TWRP 2.8.0.1, and I was able to access to recovery just fine with bbear's 5.0 rom. then I wanted to update to 2.8.1.0 using the TWRP manager (they said it was the safest) and didn't install busybox as they wanted me to. I proceed with the update and I believed the i got a prompt said that it failed. So I boot to recovery for a good 5 minutes but just stuck on logo. I can still reboot and go back to my rom. How do I fix this?
what if I boot into bootloader and re-push TWRP. should i pushed it with 2.8.0.1 or 2.8.1.0?
Thanks
Just flash TWRP 2.8.1.0 the normal way (fastboot), their app is notorious for screwing up. If you need instructions, check out my guide thread, the link is in my signature.

thanks I will do that when I get home tonight. Believed it or not, i did used your guide to unlock boot loader, flash twrp, and rooted my phone . And TWRP said using their app is safer
Well, TWRP just want you to use their app. In my experience though, using apps like TWRP Manager, ROM Manager, etc to undertake such critical tasks is just asking for trouble. You should be fine once you've flashed it with fastboot.

I'm on 5.0 rom and I don't think I have this option "Update recovery with system updates" to uncheck. I just have to enable USB debugging and flash away correct?

[Q] Some few noob questions about root+ota :D

Hi there, I just got my phone and rooted it. Actually I am with 38R and I was wondering if I can update my CM via OTA as a rooted user.
Or do I need to flash something to get it updated?
And another thing, will I lose my data if I update flashing?
I rly looked at the FAQ but I didn't find something specific as that.
Thank you
You don't need to do anything special to update, just update as you normally would. You'll lose root though so you'll need to flash SuperSU after the update.
What do you mean by the second question? Please be more specific.

Ah ok so after updating via OTA i just need to flash SU from TWRP right?
The second question is about some posts that I read about some ppl downloading zip files to update to 44S in fastboot, but if I can just update using OTA its fine.
Thank you

Yep, take the OTA, then boot into TWRP and flash SuperSU. And yep, you shouldn't need to worry about using the fastboot images.

[Q] Phone reboot to "Welcome to Cynogen" screen

My phone suddenly reboot during WhatsApp. After reboot, Welcome screen appear like 1st time boot after flash new rom. I have to select language and everything. Need to update all default software that come with 11S. But if I reboot again, same thing happen like I explained above. Running on 44S and stock kernel.
Sounds like you have a corrupt data partition. Is your bootloader unlocked?

Yeah that was what I meant. Unfortunately I think you're going to need to wipe though because just installing the update doesn't fix the problem (corrupt data partition). I think you'll need to fully wipe your phone and start fresh. First you should copy any important photos, music, etc from your phone to your PC. Just connect your phone to your PC while you're in TWRP and you should be able to copy your media from the phone using Windows. Once you've done that, go to my guide thread and follow the instructions in section 8 to flash the stock images.

My phone seem to be back to normal. Thank you. Any idea what cause it?
So it booted back up and ask your apps and settings were back to normal? That's really strange. I have no idea why/how that'd happen.

[Q] How to revert back safely ?

There are people who have used fastboot method and hard bricked!
So which ways did you guys use to revert back ?
Flashing CM11s through Normal recovery wil work right !?
And whats new in Oxygen OS ? Firmware? Bootloader?
EDIT :-
FLASHED CM11S ZIP THROUGH TWRP AND THAT WORKS SUPER FINE, NO ISSUES!
Whoever hard-bricked while flashing the stock images was doing something wrong. The stock images are your best option for going back to stock.
