I just got my Galaxy S7 4 days ago and i notice that is getting hot when i am using it normally for lot of time like 1 hour strait.. If i use games it's gets warm almost cool so no problem there but in normal use like i start web browsing, looking on youtube, making calls or reading on Google Now it gets hot. I am not talking hot like unable to touch it but almost there. Like, a little bit hotter and i need to stop touching it. And while it does not burn my skin is really uncomfortable to use it like that. So are the S7 you guys have do the same? I come from iPhone and that does not get hot on normal use so i don't know if this is normal or not but since i saw the new S7 cooling system i supposed that should not be happening.

Web browsing can use a lot resource so the phone might get hot. Also cooling system in s7 work by transfer the heat away from chipset to outside that make phone hot to touch but make chipset cooler.

I undestand but also just using it to open and close apps get it warm. I use some apps not games and it gets warm then i get a call or make a call and i have to put it in my cheek warm almost hot and is very bad feeling but if you say it is ok then is just me.

My SD820 has never made my phone hot to the touch threw my symmetry case though I can't deny the SD810 was a failure. I thoroughly enjoyed my s6e+ with exynos and wouldn't mind having it in my s7e but I don't feel in any way hindered by having the sd over the exynos.
The 820 gets hot. Really hot. I was shocked at the amount of heat produced by this phone.
Unfortunately neither the exynos variant does run cool. It goes preety warm if you're just browsing with chrome... Yes, it depends how heavy the pages are (eg javascript etc).. But in general i find the phone to get pretty warm.
A screenshot (from aida64 thermal section) after about 1h of using the phone, mostly browning, some music, a little youtube, whatsapp, twitter.

I'm also facing a similar heating issue. My phone heats up to 57°C just by opening the camera app and taking a few pics. In fact I turned off Wifi/BT/GPS just to make sure. Is this normal? What is the temperature range
yes Last night i use chrome for the first time,only a few webseits then phone get hot,but never get this happen when i use stock browser.

My battery temp goes up to 40c just using Chrome sometimes. Is this really normal ? I have exynos in my phone.
I used debloater pc app to block a ton of useless bloatware on my phone yesterday and my phone is staying cool now. it used to get crazy hot too but now it runs cool. maybe give that a try.

I'm not sure how to export a full list of what I disabled. it was over a 100 packages though. I'll play with it tomorrow to see if I can get the list because typing all that out is gonna take a long time. also, 40c is not that hot. I had my phone get over 90c before many times. sometimes it still gets pretty hot but not nearly as often anymore. like I can have Google apps running with location on for over half hour with my display on in my car and it would be ok, where before it would get pretty damn hot.

Damn! That's pretty hot.. Well, maby there is no fault in or phones. I'll guess 40c is pretty normal when using apps like Chrome.
I got a SD820(Verizon) variant and I have the same problem.
I've done some analysis about the heating, like watching CPU temperature.
What annoys me is that I think it is acceptable when you playing a heavy game, but when you're just configuring or browsing the web it keep warms.
When I lock it or charge, there is no problem at all. Samsung may have f*ck*d up in a software level, because the overheating isn't always related to heavy tasks.
There are times that I'm playing and It keeps cool, so I really think It's not about the hardware itself.
In attach i'm showing it right after unlock screen. I'm in a 24 degrees Celsius ambient.
I hope Samsung solve it in Android Oreo version
My s7 was getting extremely hot while using Maps, switched to here maps and have seen a significant improvement.

Just received my One S yesterday and after about 10 Mins of use it felt a little hot on the backside. And this is without any type case on it, so I then unlocked bootloader and rooted and lowered the CPU Speed but it still feels kinda hot after very little use. Has anybody else felt this........

How hot you are talking about? Did you play any heavy game or something?
You can install some battery app to see what the temperature it goes so people could compare yours with theirs.

The only point at which it got a bit too hot for my comfort was sitting in my lap with GPS and google navigation running for about 20 minutes screen at full brightness. Picked it up and was a tad bit toasty.
Other than that, gaming, video streaming etc no heat issues outside what i consider normal for this type of device.
I had some weird heat issues the first couple of days when I got my phone, then I started using an app killer, didn't help... so I stopped using it, and the heat isn't as bad as it was before. It's due to heavy cpu/gpu usage from hd games or just installed apps that don't have any cache data, or high visual load ones in general.

No Gaming just browsing and normal things like texting and google +.
Dont get me wrong it runs fine with no reboots or freezing, just felt a bit weird when it got hot posting to google+ other than that it runs like a champ

My N5 comes nowhere near as hot as my N4, only slightly warm. And that is while playing Ingress and streaming music at the same time, something that would make my N4 choke

Mine's so f'n hot I can't stand it :good:
Warm across the top half and it seems I only need to have the screen active to cause it.
As I've said elsewhere, web browsing, email reading....nothing that should be stressful makes that top half of my phone notably warm (front and back)

Just played Carmagedon, top half isn't getting any hotter but there's surely no way that web browsing should cause the same heat levels that a game does......

when i ran benchmark software(separate cpu and gpu apps), I only noticed the top half getting slightly warm. only on the back side
I noticed this afternoon that my phone was getting really hot in my pants. I pulled it out to check and it appears that the phone had shut off. I had to turn it back on, apparently something wonky happened.
Don't judge me....
I was playing Tiny Death Star for 2.5 hours (burnt %40 of my battery). I am extremely happy with that. I'm assuming I could easily get to 5hours screen on time. I did notice that the top half was getting warm (read:not hot). I came from using a HTC One X and it is definitely running a lot cooler than that phone.
Judging by the massive heat sink I have on my quad core processor in my computer (it weighs 500g), I think the phone is doing alright only get warm and not melting through your fingers.
Top portion heats a lot in my nexus 5. It all started after using fault 3.5 mm jack.
My n5 gets warm, but no where near as burning hot as my n4 did. But a lot of that has to do with plastic/glass. I've actually read that the snapdragon 800 on average runs hotter then the snapdragon of the n4. It's all about the materials.

Nexus 5 Heating
I have been using ma new N5 for the last one month and I realized that the device is getting heated up while browsing on 3G network and also playing HD games too.
Following are the few solution I am preferring:
1. Avoid stressing too much the Nexus 5 to prevent overheating injuries. Take a break sometimes.
2. Remove any casing whenever you are playing HD games(High Graphical) to let heat flows out.
3. It is recommended not play games while the phone is being charged unless your room is very cool.
Phones are getting silly thin and super power full = heat

Avoid using the Chrome browser as it tends to make the CPU run at high frequency and heat up the phone. Its a known issue for users but Google has done it deliberately to make the chrome run smooth.
Gets hot while playing certain games
i have tried a lot of games(asphalt 8, badland, dead trigger 2 etc) my phone generally has no major heating issues but two games plants vs zombies 2 and injustice really heats up the back of the nexus 5 to the point of unbearable. Also PvZ 2 drains the battery really quickly. Is anyone of you having the same issues? though anything else like videos or webbrowsing does not heat up the phone just makes it warm but such few games are causing lot of problems.
I can easily reach 100 F (or higher) just using dolphin browser. I haven't owned that many android phones, but that seems a little excessive. I would understand that temperature for a game, but not just for some web browsing...

Hey guys, Im new to XDA but i have a quick question for all nexus 5 owners. Okay i was just wondering if anyone else's Nexus 5 gets hot. I remember my nexus 4 would get so hot i couldn't touch it. I haven't had that kind of heat from my nexus 5, but it is there and i do notice it. It gets hot near the camera on the back, and it gets hot on the front at the top of the screen. I have a CPU temp monitor running on my device to check if my device is running to warm. I found it averages/hovers around 50 degrees celsius. When i open chrome and do some light browsing it goes up to 60 degrees. So my question is.. Is anyone else noticing their phone gets hot? And does anyone have a cpu temp monitor running and could you let me know how hot your phone is running at?

Mine gets hot after a fair amount of time of gaming. Nothing terribly uncomfortable, but noticeable nonetheless.

Yeah mine is warm after just 5 minutes of normal usage non-gaming situations. Not hot but warm. Its starts to get hot to the touch after 15 minutes of heavy usage (ie. Browsing, gaming, etc) . I don't know if this is worth calling Google about and having them replace it, or is everyone's phone like this and I just need to get used to it?
I gotta stop reading on this forum the more more I read about this phone its make me not want it does all the things my Galaxy Nexus does. too not while browsing the internet. Low speaker volume. No flash. Questionable battery life. Might go iPhone...smh
Chrome is the problem. Its resource heavy for no ****ing reason.
I've been using chrome and my phone doesn't work hard at all with the same amount of browsing and tabs I always have open.
So its not the phone. You can expect it to get warm when doing CPU intensive stuff. Gaming would be it. But not hot.

Okay i think it might be chrome as well. When playing temple run, my device only got to 58 celsius. But when browsing on chrome my device went up to 68 celsius. So now I'm thinking its just chrome?

As the other person stated - Chrome is a resource hog and definitely is part of it. Fully utilizing Google Now with the voice search activated (*okay Google*) can definitely do it. Try Chrome Beta, it's much better.
Does it get too hot to the point it won't charge? That what pisses me off most about my g-nex

i think its normal for the 'warm' touch at the back, it doesn't get quite as hot as the nexus4 becuase of the glass backing
i use tempMonitor app, i get around 47c cpu temp when its warm

my cpu is anywhere between 0C and 89C, depending what im doing with the phone. its normal to get hot, especially when doing something taxing. itll get hot, but itll cool down fast when the work is done. thats how its supposed to work. anyone complaining that device cpu temp is hot at 65C just doesnt know any better.

Lol well thats why I was asking and looking through the forums on XDA because I've never experienced a hot phone before. Im coming from the moto x which never got above 40C. That phone wasn't a snapdragon 800 though. I just wanted opinions of if it was just my phone or if everyones phone was like this. And if not should i send it in for replacement.

what i see in this statement is pure ignorance. human body temperature is 37C, youre telling me that your cpu NEVER goes more than 1-2C over human body temp, even while gaming? do you live in the antarctic?
your only saving grace will be if you meant battery temperature, not cpu temperature. 39-40C would be normal then.
It's very easy to get wrong temperature readings from sensors btw. Trying to find a good app that reads them properly is not.
Parts of the phone warm up quickly but luckily the bottom bezel area does not.
Just got a brand new Nexus 5, the newer batches with the speaker hole a lil bigger, and on stock rom and kernel it seemed to run a wee bit hot doing nothing, or very minimal tasks like going through main settings...
Is this normal? I can understand any phone getting hotter with a heavy load like some video games, but not while doing almost nothing... My ancient old LG Motion 4G is stone cold, even with heavy tasking, and I know that's not a fair comparison, but I wonder...
Will try a custom Kernel, and see if some settings help...

its normal.
your old LG wasnt a 2.3ghz quad core either. depending on what the temps are around you, and what tasks you are doing with the phone, its normal for it to be anywhere from 30C-70C. even if you are playing cpu intensive games, it can be normal for your device to hit 80-85C. at 100C, itll automatically shut down to cool off.
Personally I think the n5 stays pretty cools, mine sits around 40c with normal usage and even with gaming ita around 60c.

If it's just a little hot, it's probably normal. Mine doesn't seem to get hot under normal usage, though I suppose even if it did I wouldn't notice because I have it in a TPU case all the time. How hot it get probably varies from chip to chip, as no two CPUs are 100% identical. If it starts throttling under normal usage, then I would be concerned.

Wherever I see in the forums people only talk about the value in green box and they think that device is relatively cooler even under heavy load. But gotta say man the device heats up worse than my G4 even in minor load when referring to the values in the red box as you said. I wanna know is there something up with my device alone. What does you CPU Temp. reading after about 15 mins of heavy game session like with 'NFS No Limits' in your device in AIDA64? PLease post a screenshot

My phone gets hot, 75 Celsius when updating several apps, or right after an OTA.
I think this is normal, as I changed the first phone ( display issue ) and both reached the same temperatures in similar situations.

Oh! Thanks for the reply. This is the first time using glass/metal phone, maybe that's why I'm very sensitive to this problem. Is that a S7(flat)? Never had seen anything above 60C.
Yes, simple s7, not edge.
One time got very hot in my pocket, for no apparent reason.
But in battery stats I noticed that Google services percentages increased from 6 to 16, in about 20 minutes. This happens also on g4, about once or twice a week. It lasts from 10 minutes to a half hour, or I restart the phone and no more issues for a while.
It's hard to catch the s7 above 70 Celsius, I guess the cooling system does it's job really fast. We need an app to monitor and record temperature changes in the background. The only one I know about is CPU temp, but is not showing real CPU temperatures, it's fake.

But when updating is done temperatures are very fast dropping to 30-40 degrees. I think it's normal for this kind of device, made from glass and metal. Would be greatful for more observations from you guys. Cheers.

Yeah, Most app in the place store aren't able to read the actual temperature from the S7. Maximum I've seen with those are 38C in ~20 min session of gaming. As I said haven't seen S7 anywhere near 70C but near 61C in AIDA64 but after ~20 min session of gaming. It does take about 5 mins to completely cool down. Don't know it's normal. Is it!?

As you can see from all the below linked videos, the temperature never crosses 40C in any testing under heavy load. But how can we get 60C, 70C and all. They are even saying device isn't much hot. How is that even posssible?

I have no idea what and how they tested, the fact is that mine got very hot a few times. I only check temps when I feel the phone hot, and that was only when updating some apps, right after the OTA restart.
The temps from a gun are going to be lower than the core sensor reading. Always.
Is this gun any good for external testing ? I almost bought it

Seems like a local item. May not give you accurate readings but it's up to you. If you want a good one try Amazon.

But in battery stats I noticed that Google services percentages increased from 6 to 16, in about 20 minutes. This happens also on g4, about once or twice a week. It lasts from 10 minutes to a half hour, or I restart the phone and no more issues for a while.
It's hard to catch the s7 above 70 Celsius, I guess the cooling system does it's job really fast. We need an app to monitor and record temperature changes in the background. The only one I know about is CPU temp, but is not showing real CPU temperatures, it's fake.

Here are something based on my recent tests and findings,
The problem is when the device is under heavy load(NFS No Limits game). therm_zoneX values goes upto 61C, which I don't care if the device is still not much hot to hold in hand but it isn't. Compared to my LG G4 it gets hot soon for the same amount of load based on my tests. And makes me unpleasant of the fact that the I can't enjoy the amazing performance of gaming in this phone not even longer when compared to the HTC & LG phones I had. Even simple tasks like switching between Whatsapp and Tapatalk in the background for almost 5 min made the device unusually warm while there isn't anything else heavy running in the background. All these is considering the fact that my room temperature isn't very hot. What is your opinion?
I think the below attached images(4) will help you understand it better on the temp. variations on various tasks and where do I feel it warm/hot. I strongly believe it's unusual based on my experience in previous 5 years with various devices. Do you observe something similar. Please have a look.
PS: The NFS No Limits temp. readings were similar to someone who posted in the different thread.
Is 34°C on average/light use good?
36-37°C when updating apps and using the phone at the same time
