Can't get podcasts working with native music app - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've had my unlocked Sony Xperia Z5 for about a month now, and I'm quite happy with it. I decided to root it after I found out the bootloader was unlockable, and that was mostly just so I could run a handful of apps that need it like f.lux or AdAway. I was able to root without my phone having to factory reset or anything, too; I didn't have to sign in with my Google account or anything again. I've also had zero problems with the supposed DRM on the phone, and the audio features all seem to work just fine. I am running Marshmallow with otherwise no problems as well.
However, one thing continues to elude me, and I've yet to find a single answer to it for several weeks. When I use the Music app, I can bring out the sidebar and scroll down to a setting that says "Podcast". I originally tried it out a few months ago on an Xperia C4 at a local store on display, and I was able to search up podcasts I normally listen to. When I got my hands on my Z5, I wanted to use that feature and add some podcasts in there. That way, I could have the music app handle podcasts instead of me having to use a separate app.
Now here's where my problem comes in. Whenever I open up the podcast option, the same thing always happens. Every single time. I'll click "Podcast" on the sidebar in the Music app, I'll see the "No items" screen telling me to tap the Plus icon on the top-right corner to add a podcast, I tap the Plus icon, and I'm immediately greeted with "No network connection. Make sure your device is connected to a network." Clicking retry does nothing. It's like the app just doesn't seem to think I'm ever connected when my connection works fine on just about any other app on my phone.
I've yet to find a solution on my own. Searching online turns up nothing, as if the problem is only happening to me or is too obscure. I've tried so many fixes on my own. Tried clearing the data on the Music app, tried clearing the data and following with a reboot, tried connecting to different networks, tried toggling my WiFi and LTE, tried just about everything I can think of. I'm stumped.
I have no idea what I'm doing wrong at this point. I'm on rooted Marshmallow with an E6603 model Xperia Z5. Any suggestions on what to do from here, or am I stuck with a broken feature on the Music app? Granted I could live without this feature, but I would very much like to consolidate my podcasts and music into a single app.

Unfortunately, the podcasts won't work properly without root too. I just went back to test this, the issue that made me stop using it is still there: while scrolling the podcasts list by category, the list of items would occasionally skip very fast 2 or 3 pages below or above. I'm using podcasts in GPM now. That, too is a bit underdeveloped right now, hopefully Google will improve on it.

I have the same problem with "No network connection" on my Sony Z5 compact on Marshmallow 6.0.1 but it was the same on 6.0 and 5.1.1 so I assume it's Sony's music app fault. Anyone found a solution yet?

Try the app - "Genus beat" for music as well as podcasts

I find the native music player and podcast rather bad to be honest. I much prefer third party app combinations such as Onyx and Pocketcasts

Napster and Slacker Radio Streaming Issues

Hello fellow posters,
I am having a very strange problem that shows its ugly head with Napster and Slacker Radio. The song will play for exactly 12 seconds and then stop. The song will then resume again several seconds later. The rest of the song plays fine from that point forward. I find it strange that it happens on both apps at the same exact time (12 seconds). MOG doesn't seem to have this issue.
I have a 4G signal with at least 3 bars when the issue happens. The problem doesn't occur is streaming from WIFI.
Is anybody else having problems with these apps with their G2X?
Thanks for your time,
Lance
I have the same problem. I was running the gingerbread leak thought it was that. So I'm back on stock same problem.

Napster and Slacker Radio
Does anybody have ideas on how to resolve the issue (song stops playing after seconds almost every time. The song then starts playing again after several seconds).
Is it a phone issue since it happens on both Slacker Radio and Napster? Any setting changes that can be done?
Thanks,
Lance
I haven't tried napster, but for slacker, try version 2.1.191. I loaded it with titanium backup. The last couple versions suck, and apparently not just on our phones/roms. The market comments are BAD. lol...
Not sure how to locate it if you don't have a backup. I'll see about getting the apk somewhere.. It was free on the market, so I can't see how it would be "piracy"...
I have the same problem with Slacker, so it's unusable on my G2x. If this isn't fixed sometime soon, I'll be canceling my paid Slacker account.
slacker updated again today. so far so good streaming over 3g
I had to turn on High quality mode in the settings menu, then the song would cache all the way in 3g. If it's in normal quality, they song doesn't cache all the way and will occasionally skip. Wifi works normally.
I've also disabled the local stream manger in slacker as well. Not sure if that has done anything
I tried again with the latest version and disabling the "local media server" option. Already had high quality enabled.
It actually plays music now. Thanks for the tip. Now if we could get music apps not to stutter when the cpu gets used... Sigh. A dual core should NEVER stutter music when multitasking.
Yes it what the "local Media server" not "local stream manager" . Sorry about that; I didn't have my phone on me.
Glad you're working. Not even sure what that feature does.
i deleted slacker. the damn app wants to run for so many actions. check it out using an app like autostarts. it starts running for a ton of different actions, things that don't even make sense.
winamp is almost as bad,but tolerable.

I disabled Local Media Server too (never noticed that option before), and it seems to be working properly for me too. Thanks everyone!
I have Napster and I have the SAME EXACT problem. The only way I got around it was to download the playlists so it wouldn't skip. It's extremely annoying. I've already informed LG about the issue a month or so ago. Its only on Napster tho. Not Rhapsody or Pandora.

This apparently just showed up with the last update (yesterday or today) and fixed my streaming issues in slacker too (only had time for a quick test though)

[Q] Music Stuttering In Every Player I Try

I have a Galaxy S3 i747 running AOKP 4.2.2. I've tried Google Play Music, Omich Player, Android Music Player, and PowerAmp. Whenever I do anything on my phone while listening to music, it skips for a second or two. By this I mean locking or unlocking it, opening an app, and sometimes doing something within an app. Its really obnoxious and is seriously ruining my enjoyment of this phone. My ROM has an overclock function, so I tried forcing the processor to go to 1.6gHz at all times, but that didn't fix it. It also has an SD card read ahead function, but even setting that as high as 4000kb had no effect. This happens whether there's zero or a dozen apps in the background. Sometimes clearing the apps cache and force closing it followed by restarting the phone helps. Also, sometimes switching to another music player whip fix it for a while before that one starts skipping too.
Is there any solution to this? I've seen other people with this problem but they either never resolve it or the solution that works for them doesn't work for me.
Perhaps
If you have AntiVirus on your mobile phone. Possible that some programs are not compatible

Nope, no antivirus
I know this sounds crazy but try using headphones with a built-in microphone. I'm almost positive that is how I fixed this issue on an older phone that had the same issue.

Music stops playing

Hi there!
I received a new Xperia E3.
Yesterday I was listen to some music with the Walkman app and with my Sony headphones ( sony.pt/electronics/auscultadores-banda-cabeca/mdr-zx300 ), when suddenly it stops playing the music for a short period of time (like 10 seconds). But I know that the music doesn't pause because when the music back, it doesn't back where it stops playing.
For exemple, imagine the music stops playing at 2:34, and it doesn't come back during 10 seconds. When it come back, instead of come back at 2:34, it come back at 2:44...
I don't if you can understand my problem, but it is really annoying.
PLEASE HELP ME!

did you update the google play services? try uninstalling its updates.
If the problem persist: disable smart connect.
If you have enabled STAMINA MODE remember to add WALKMAN to "Apps activate in standby"
I have a similar problem, but with a D2203 and with Google Play Music - the music stops for 10-15 seconds and returns where it stopped playing.
Tried many combinations in the power management menu, tried disabling smart connect, tried playing music only from the internal memory/streaming, tried flashing another firmware, tried clearing the data of Google play music, tried changing the SD card. Nothing works. And to top it all I have an unlockable bootloader so I'm the mercy of the Sony update schedule.
Any ideas?

try uninstalling google play updates
Tried uninstalling Google PLay services updates. So far so good, no more interruptions - though once i got one loong interruption, so long that i unplugged the headphones and plug them back in to get the sound back.
The annoying thing now is that I get error messages that some google apps want a newer version of google play services - i had to install an app that automatically dismisses those

I have latest google play services and still not have this problem.
It is happening due to unknown issues.

Well, I guess I spoke too soon. I got another interruption. But at least now they are less frequent with the downgraded Google Play Services.

I have this problem when i got this phone new after some updates it solved. But while copying files/installing apps i have this problem. So the cause of problem is due to slow sdcard read speed. Try rooting and boosting sdcard speed.

Update your Walkman app via OTA using the Update center app (around 14 Mb). Latest walkman version is material design based (8.5.A.2.10)

I'm starting to love my phone again
Hello Everyone!
I have same problem....
----
My specs:
Model: D2203
SD card: Samsung 32gb Class 10
Android 4.4.2 Build 18.4.c.2.12 (Ota Upgraded)
200-150 Mb free Internal storage.
Most applicaton transferred to sd card.
Phone is not encrypted.
Walkman 8.5.a.3.2 (Ota Upgraded)
-----
Clear Audio is turned on.
I using Trow at home.
My notebok has a bluetooth (Lenonvo Z50-70).
-I never restart/shutdown my phone. Stable enough to withstand for 30 (or more) days.
-STANIMA is not a factor (in my case).
-Around April, I upgraded my phone.
-And my Walkman.
-Never had a problem before update.
-A week later i experienced a problem.
----
If i use trow:
The music is not silenced instead become dashed for a short time.
And try to connect again!
Especially when switching between tasks. I think when te device run out of memory.
I hope we get closer to solve the problem. An sorry for my bad english.

Anyway to fix Bluetooth issues?

This issue only started for me about a month ago and has gotten progressively worse.
Every time I open Google apps that could be used to stream music (play music, YouTube), I get a message saying that Bluetooth has stopped.
It happens whether I'm actually connected to a Bluetooth device or not and I can't find a way to prevent it. It never used to happen while using power amp either.
Is there anything that can be done?
Edit: It happens any time I play music now
Edit 2: The problem seems to be related to an update of the play music app. I uninstalled the update and only have the base version of the app now and everything is working fine.
Try going into apps in sttings if ure rooted use a diffrent app manager and clear the cache and data on bluetooth

Random Media Pauses.

If I open galaxy apps, it tends to pause my music player after a few seconds, sometimes it does it even if im just at the home screen with apps closed. Youtube will also pause randomly. I have axtually disabled bixby, turned off ALL notifications, allowed background data for youtube and samsung music player, and disabled optimisation for them.
Heres the weird thing. When I had poweramp, it didnt do it so long as I had "pause for long audio cues" disabled. And now I downloaded sound assistant and allowed samsung music player to play over any audio and then it doesnt pause. I cant seen to figure this out.
The root of the problem seems to be samsungs audio focus not working properly, but that aside, I cant find what service or app is triggering some invisible and silent audio cue. Any ideas?
I experienced something similar to this while I was traveling. I had the phone bluetoothed to the car. The only things that I had running (that I remember) were Google Play Music, Google Maps (with GPS enabled, of course), and the Weatherbug app since it was storming while I was driving.
The music app would randomly pause and I didn't know why. I haven't experienced it again since then (a couple weeks ago) but I haven't needed google maps since then, and honestly haven't been driving with all those apps open simultaneously since then. I can try it again tomorrow actually, as I have to drive about an hour out of town for a work assignment. I can report it back if you like.
This won't necessarily narrow it down since we may have totally different apps on our phones that may be causing it.

I tried to replicate the problem (even opening a lot more apps on my phone simultaneously) and couldn't get it to do it. I guess that's good for me. I know there have been updates to several of the apps I mentioned since I experienced that problem, though, too. Don't know what to tell you. I remember in the past sometimes deleting all of my bluetooth connections and then reconnecting sometimes helped. But who knows...
I'm traveling again today and next week so we'll see again. If I experience again I'll let you know.
