LG Phone App = No Favorites? - T-Mobile LG G5 Questions & Answers

Is there a reason that the phone app does not have a favorites tab? It is a real PITA to have to scroll thru an
entire phonebook to make a pone call.

Mine lists my favorites at the top of the contacts tab.
Does yours not?

oh, so that is how it's done. i just figured that there would be a tab for it like on most phones.
Ok, this non-intuitive but it is better then nothing I guess. Thanks for the heads up.

It was strange for me at first also coming from a samsung phone but this seems to be make more sense the more I get used to it.

Speed dial APP for Nexus one?!

I used to use "Speed dial" on my Mytouch and I have tried it. I also tried the native "direct call" shortcut and they are too small to see.
My phone freaked out and went on the fritz. I go a new one today and that whole "back up my apps" thing didn't work.
I HAD an app on the N1 that let me put like a 2x2 widget/icon on the home screen and when you pushed it it said "Call, Message,Email, etc". I cannot for the life of me find this in the Market. any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
P.S. Any cut only makes 1x1 icons as well.
..can´t help you, but I would like to have that too - a nice speed dial app for N1
Bump. Anyone have any ideas?
The easiest way to speed dial, is to create shortcuts on the desktop for specific contact phones - the shortcut will also get the contact's image and name, so it easy to work with.
Then, one click, and it calls the contact, without any extra menus/questions.

Please re-read my post. I am currently using that method, but on the Nexus one the icons are so small because of the resolution of the screen. It makes them very hard to see. I am looking for a 2x2 option instead of the default 1x1. Thank you for your reply!
try NubDial from the market.
i am using that on my N1.
Thanks. Looks cool, but not exactly what I'm after.
I personally love the speeddial function in acontacts, but if you already found what you're looking for then that's good. Still, 2x2 on your homescreen is huge
2 x 2 isn't huge on the Nexus. I think it is the resolution. I had one I was using and my first Nexus one crapped out. I sent it back and Android did not back up all of my apps as had hoped so...no gotta. but still, I haven't found one.
Anyone?
Found an app called "Quickdial". Pretty close to what I wanted. I just wish I could make each contact a link or it operated as a widget. Cool app though.
Old School Speed Dialer
You could also try Old School Speed Dialer. With it, you speed dial by just bringing up the dialer, entering the speed dial shortcut number, then hitting call. Saves on home screen space.

We just released a speed dial widget, Sign. Sign will let you you call or text any of your contacts by simply drawing a gesture (signing) directly from your home screen. It also prevents misdials/incidental calls which are more prevalent with direct dial icons. There's more information here.
Anyways, give it a shot and let us know what you think.
Speed Dial in market from CRinUS makes a larger icon you might be able to see. Kinda blurry if you look at it up close though

2.1 Messaging App Facebook Status on Froyo

Hey all,
I really liked the fact that i could see the facebook status of the person that i was texting at the top of the thread in 2.1. Is there anyway that you could get that same functionality in Froyo?
haha i just noticed its not there! LOL nice catch. Bump to this
i still have it
Would porting the messaging app from 2.1 to 2.2 be the only way we could do this? Would this even be possible? Because i know a lot of people use Handcent but the reason i dont use it is because i like being able to see the persons most recent facebook status at the top of my thread

I hate the new messaging app. So cluttered and messy with pictures for EACH message. Not to mention the gray box for me!

It's a gray box for you because your sim doesn't list your number. If you see your number under Settings -> About -> Status. If it lists your number under My Number you can just add yourself as a contact with a picture and it will show up. Otherwise there are some phones that allow you to add the number. I personally used a simcard-reader/writer for my computer.
Yeah i have seen the messanging app on my freinds phone and i dont really mind the fact that there is a picture for each message, but I would really miss seeing the persons most recent facebook status because I might not necessarily see thier status on my news feed. The lack facebook status on the messanging app is the only reason I havent flashed the froyo test build

I know, but thanks for your help. I had to use an old SE phone to change my SIM number. But seriously this is a really large oversight on Google's part. Like I am suppose to make a contact of myself just so I can have a picture there?? That's ridiculous.
Is also like this. Much prefer the messaging app from cyanogenmod /:

Well my friend tried yesterday to simply uninstall the 2.2 messanging app and to simply install the 2.1 APK using ASTRO and it failed to install. Im not sure if pushing with ADB will work but just trying to simply delete and install definitely didnt work

Change Apps in Home Screen Bottom Dock

On my captivate there are four apps on the bottom of all home screens: Phone, Email, Browser, and Apps.
Any way I can change it? It doesnt seem to be accessible/customizable.
I havent found a way yet either....so doesn't seem possible.

Yep, I figured it out. Follow this:
1. From the Home screen select "Applications"
2. Menu> View Type> Customizable Grid
3. Menu> Edit
You can now slide any App down to the bottom dock. You can even change it back to "Alphabetical Grid" and it will still save the Apps on the dock.
thank you sir!

Is anyone having success with Launcher Pro replacing touchwhiz?
I really prefer launcher pro over touchwiz. Are you asking how to change the buttons on the dock in launcher pro? If so, just hold down one of the little +'s until the menu opens up and go from there.
on a related note, is there a way to remove the different pre-loaded AT&T applications from the phone? there are a number that seem useless given other apps out there that do the same thing but better, but i can´t seem to figure out how to delete them.
keep your finger on the icon you want to move a second longer than normal (if you have your phone on vibrate, it will buzz) then you can move them around the screen as many or as much as you like. You can also drag them into a bin which will appear in the bottom of the screen. This action doesn't delete the app or icon, it just reappears in the apps page. Very easy but took me ages to work it out. So simple. Have fun

[APP] Youlou Address Book (Not My App)

http://androinica.com/2010/11/02/yo...-new-favorite-dialercontacts-app-app-reviews/
Check the market for it. It's all kinds of awesome. Ignore the fact that the market description is in Chinese, it's very cool.
Been using Youlou since upgrading to 2.1 a few weeks ago. I must say it's a really slick address book.
this is way faster then stock froyo address book ...just missing option to create shortcut for direct dialer
looks good. i think i will try this one
How can I use this app as default dialer? I need it because I want to see the counter for missed calls?
I love this app too. The widget shows missed calls BTW the widget is awesome.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
It's frustrating, this app.
It's rad, the UI looks awesome. It pretends to be so functional... But it's so far from it.
No * or # key, really? I get that it's chinese, but come on. How many users have to request it in the comments before you just add the damn things?
I don't want to have to add a widget to homescreen. There isn't room for it. Make the app fully functional without it (aka show missed calls).
Doesn't sync with facebook.
Doesn't thread together contacts (like say if you had a regular phone and a google voice phone already in your contacts... in the default I can just thread the two together, in Youlu I have to delete one and then add the other to the contact manually)
Pictures are sometimes there for my favs, sometimes not. I even re add a picture or change the picture. It sometimes takes the app opening closing like 5 times before it appears, and then it can leave just as easily.
After all that I'm still struggling to remove it from my phone, but being realistic, this thing isn't a dialer. It's just not. It's a cool UI that pretends to be one, while missing a half a dozen key components.
Sometimes I wonder if the stock dialer was something that was actually ****ty, and then the current stock dialer came out with a hip name and was third party, how crazy would people go for that? It has everything.

I have no choice but to completely agree irish22022 it's a very nice looking UI and I enjoyed it quite a lot until I was trying to get in touch with customer service (*611) or check the balance on my phone (#BAL) it's extremely frustrating to be missing these two key digits, almost a showstopper however I keep using it hoping they will eventually add what we need. As far as for only allowing one account that doesn't bother me so much because I have all of my contacts backed up to one Google account which only made sense to me, so that doesn't bother me so much. However the * and # issue really needs to be corrected.

you can open the sms client in the app drawer that appears after installation, go to settings, and disable everything.
It's still ridiculous that they install that on your computer along with the address book. Should definitely be a seperate app.
Just update is now acceptinf # &*
It has been the fastest smart dialer for me-even faster than dialer one. I would still like it if you could search within the call log and/or the contact list as well.

are you at least in the sms client? it looks nothing like the phone book. If it's not in your app drawer, open up the dialer, go to contacts, click on a contact, and click the envelope rather then the dialer (if you don't see the envelope, then go to settings and look for the option to include a text shortcut for your contacts). This defaults to youlu's sms client. From there, hit the menu button, click settings and disable notifications.
You can't uninstall the sms app, but you can silence it so you don't know it's there. And you also can't change the default sms app within youlu phone book, it will always open up their sms app.

stock sensation dialer/contacts - garbage

is it just me or is it complete crap?
to look up a number in contacts requires several screens/button pushes - this is majorly annoying
once a call is connected you have to hit a button to then hit the speaker - why not put that on the connected call screen?
slow
laggy
i came from a n1 with cm7 on it.

dude you must be high if you go in the app drawer there is a contacts icon thats it not seven screens, and if you in the dialer just hit menu at the bottom and theres a peoples icon with all your contacts not seven screens. you obviously dont know how to use the phone lol......also you can turn speaker on before the call even connects wich is also on the connected call screen
Also you can just go to phone and start typing the person's name.
So 326 would bring up all starting with "dan"
If you don't want to call the primary number just tap the contact details icon then tap the other number you want.
It's probably the best dialer I've used, so quick and easy.

Try touch pal dialer from market. It is much better, and free.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.cootek.smartdialer&feature=search_result
It's the best dialer I've ever used, and so is the People app Love it. This is why I love Sense. Dunno what drugs you've taken
Nah, i'm in the same boat as the OP.
the n1 dialer was better, more efficient. The sense dialer has too much to scroll through.
Maybe after I get used to it , it will get better.

You SCROLL through the dialer? Why?
This thread is so funny to me because I use the Sense UI for the dialer alone, it is superior to the AOSP dialer in every way.
Indeed this dialer is a much requested feature in other roms. Haven't used a faster one, and I came from cm7
There's absolutely 0 reason to ever scroll through anything in it

Exactly.. I don't know how much easier it can get than opening the dialer and hitting the first letter or 2 of the persons name you are calling...
Every stock ROM I use I always download TouchPal dialer because of it's sense-like features. I hate having to scroll through the contacts to find the person i'm trying to call with the stock dialer.

Ok say you prefer the people app to the dialer, once it's open, select the search bar at the top and tap out the first few letters of the contact you want, select it from the list and dial from there.
No scrolling.
Or just get used to using the phone dialer as you're meant to. The people app is really meant for managing contacts.

I agree with you. Though for me, it's not the dialer...it's the seemingly random way that the phone will store a saved number...sometimes to the phone, sometimes to the SIM, and sometimes completely hidden and not able to be found until you start manually typing a number into the dialer, at which time it shows you that it *does* know the contact you're trying to reach, it just won't let you find it any other way.
Then there's the joy of syncing, especially with multiple gmail accounts, and having 3-4-5 copies of the SAME CONTACT and having to manually delete them all. I think my monochrome Nokia 3310 had a better contact interface.
