Moving the [Status Bar] to Bottom of the Screen - General Questions and Answers

This is a feature which has regressed since the days of CM7, when it was possible to move the status / notification bar to the bottom of the screen. (See attached image.)
This was ergonomically far superior. Try it yourself with your phone turned off -- the anatomy of the hand and range of motion of the thumb make it much easier to swipe up from the bottom, especially when the phone's held with one hand.
Is there any app or xposed module which allows this change on later ROMs? I've searched fruitlessly.
Thanks.

Very funny, but not helpful!

There used to be xposed modules like Phab7, but they only worked up untill kitkat. After that "tablet mode" has been removed from android code. To make such a module, a whole new statusbar and notification screen needs to be designed and coded. I guess there aren't enough people interested in this concept, or at least nobody thinks it's worth their time making such a module.
I wish I was able to make such a module, but sadly I am not.

Would be really nice to have bottom status bar since a lot of flagship phones are around 5.5" to 6+". Such a waste of time and energy having to swipe down from the top or having to go to the home screen to be able to do the gesture half way down the screen. Even though I set long-press home for the notifications shade, it's just not satisfying.

if anyone did managed to pull this off, please share. thank you

[APP] Honey Hide Widget V3.0!(hides system bar)

Version 3.0 has been released! It includes a smaller widget (1×1) that was requested by users as well as the ability to restore the status bar when the screen turns off. The latter feature allows the widget to be used by more devices that do not have hardware keys.
Along with version 3.0 I have also released a donate version. This version is exactly the same as the free version but costs one dollar for those who feel generous!
You can download it on the android market place by clicking Here for free and Here for donate

Any chance for a 1x1 button? My homescreen real estate comes at a premium.
Any chance on a way to bring the bar back through hard buttons? I got stuck in netflix and was unable to get out of the app until I restarted the device. Perhaps 1.pressing up/down volume at the same time 2.have it automatically come back after coming out of standby 3. come back with a push of the center button...

Ill look into it thanks for the recommendations!
There is also a border that auto colors itself. It would be great if it was the same color as the widget, or had no border at all. Thanks. Great widget!
Thank you for this litte widget! Works perfectly on my TPT and I'm no longer pressing any status bar buttons when writing in Quill or Notes Mobile.
The Widget has been updated to V3.0 hope you guys like it! The OP has been updated

[Q] Anyway to make the top left of the screen more accessible?

I love my nexus 5 but UIs that require me to touch the top left of the screen are hard to reach. Is there any way to apply a per app hack where the top bar can be stretched or maybe lowered? I appreciate I won't be using all of the screen but it will be worth it for a few specific instances e.g. gmail and hangouts.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying your problem is. Everything should be adjustable per your preferences by default. Maybe you can elaborate in more detail.
Had this issue with my Samsung note 2... One of the reasons I bought the nexus 5 is it fits my hands and my thumb can reach the entire screen. This doesn't answer your question but it was my solution to this problem.

Your picture actually did a great job of explaining what you meant to say. I understand now.
Silly question/statement, but do you know that pressing the "Back" arrow in most cases such as that should take your back to where you were. Most often, that specific option like you displayed, that you can't reach, can be activated the same way by hitting the back button.
There are however, plenty of apps and situations where you need to hit an option in the top left corner and the back button will NOT do this action. I have big hands and have gotten used to being able to tap something on any section of my screen.
You could try installing a mod/app to enable custom gestures in which you can swipe a gesture towards the right and set it to that function. (ex: gesture enabled when you swipe from the center of the right towards the middle, it activates a "back" option.
You can try installing "GMD Gesture Control" for this.
Just a suggestion?
Thanks for your reply! I didn't realise the back button could cater for some of these scenarios. I also didn't realise I could swipe from the left for a lot of these apps. This caters for most of the scenarios so I'm happy now, thanks!
Grabbing anywhere on the left edge of the screen and sliding right does the same as pressing the icon up high. Same goes go for play store.
good day.

One-handed mode for Nexus5 and other android phones...?

I just recently bought Nexus5. it is my first experience with a 5 inch 16:9 phone and I am a bit frustrated about how difficult it is to do certain things when using the phone with one hand. I am left handed so some things are even more difficult for me than right handed people.
For example:
- pulling down the notifications from the top is very hard.
- reaching for the top right corner is even more difficult for me. Most programs have important buttons in the top right corner.
- right edge is also difficult for me
Galaxy S5 has a one-handed mode and Iphone6 and 6 plus seems to get it too.
- Does there exists an option in Cyanogenmod to shrink the UI to the lower corner in similar manner than in Galaxy S5...? Or is there any other good solutions.
- Does there exist somehow a way to forge a program to put important UI elements to lower edge instead of upper edge
- Does there exist a way to "mirror" the position of UI elements so that they would be more accessible for left handed people..?
Any other solutions for making the phone easier to use with one hand or for left hander are all welcome.
I saw an xposed module for one handed, but I have not used it.
Yeah, there are some Xposed modules that can do one-handed mode. I'm pretty much ambidextrous and have no issue with using my left hand, and my hands are by no means large.
LMT pie has a pointer system for one handed operation if you enable it. There are some apps on Google play store too, don't know what they are like though.
One thing I do to sort this is using nova launcher's gestures.
One swipe down on any of my home screens and it drops the notification shade. One swipe up and it gets me to the quick settings page. It's pretty useful.

It only does the activity window (app) not status bar but loads of ways to trigger status bar drop.

Navigation Bar gestures Problem?

I'm using Samsung Galaxy A7 2018 and I have a problem with the navigation bar, When I hide it and use it with Full screen gestures, I use the keys of the keyboard last row, while pressing the keys at the same time with gestures hints, it does not release up. Other touches at the same time with gestures are similar. Do not know if other people use this phone with the same problem as me? Hope to find some feedback. Thank you! :fingers-crossed:
I hope that I have understand correctly your problem but for me works properly?
I have hide mine permanently and use it with these settings.

As for keyboard I`m using Swiftkey keyboard.
I have also hid my statusbar as I don`t need it for max screen estate with the Immersive app.
I experience the same thing in Samsung Galaxy A7 2018. If i completly hide the navigation bar and use full screen gesture, I experience this bug:
In the last row, when i hit an option or an icon, it holds down without release. For example in youtube landscape i hit the quality otion and it dosen't open i have to hit it twice or three times.
Maybe in the Android 9 Pie update samsung will fix this. It is normal to experience this bug because it's the first phone that has this option.
Also, is it because i use Nova Launcher? I never used stock launchers on phones because they look so ugly.
In Nova i can costumize Icon size, dock size, rename apps in menu and Home screen, change how many rows of icons and etc.
I also use Nova Launcher Prime but I don`t experience any problems.
Also forgot to say that when commenting in youtube the text is under the keyboard at the bottom of the screen.
Navigation key issues
I'm having the same issue.... At first I thought it was the keyboard so I tried several and had the same issue.

Idem, and Instagram this problem
A new update came out 1st February 2019. 397mb. It improved the touchscreen and fixed the hidden navigation bar, no more bugs at the bottom of the screen. But the text under the keyboard is still there. Maybe in android 9 One more month...
I have the problem in Instagram where the text box is hidden behind the keyboard

Question Anyway to disable this OneUI half screen title?

Is there anyway to disable this wasted screen real estate when you open settings?
I'd rather have the classic look.
I really don't need to be told I'm in settings after I just clicked the 'settings' icon to get into it
The Samsung email app does something similar too, it's pretty annoying

Just slide it up. Not really sure you can actually disable it. It is kind of the norm on a lot of screens (i.e. email and messages).

Aside from rooting and romming you are stuck with it. Also the design choice wasn't so much about telling you where you already know you are but providing reachability with one hand when entering some apps and settings.
Slide it up, and it should remeber this each time you open it back up.

You do realize that sliding up does reduce the space to a minimum right?
same spacers at SMS app
its the 2022 stupid design, bro
@joancolmenares you don't say!
My question was about removing it because I don't like having to do the extra slide up and in case you forgot, this is a developer forum.
Anyway, Scotsman actually said something interesting. My settings screen position isn't being remembered. This is probably because I've put background memory restrictions on apps for battery savings. I will look into that

Sorry, I just double checked on mine, and it doesn't remember it. I swear it did, at least on my Note 20 Ultra.
Or maybe I'm just going crazy
