Is there anyway to disable this wasted screen real estate when you open settings?
I'd rather have the classic look.
I really don't need to be told I'm in settings after I just clicked the 'settings' icon to get into it
The Samsung email app does something similar too, it's pretty annoying

Just slide it up. Not really sure you can actually disable it. It is kind of the norm on a lot of screens (i.e. email and messages).

Aside from rooting and romming you are stuck with it. Also the design choice wasn't so much about telling you where you already know you are but providing reachability with one hand when entering some apps and settings.
Slide it up, and it should remeber this each time you open it back up.

You do realize that sliding up does reduce the space to a minimum right?
same spacers at SMS app
its the 2022 stupid design, bro
@joancolmenares you don't say!
My question was about removing it because I don't like having to do the extra slide up and in case you forgot, this is a developer forum.
Anyway, Scotsman actually said something interesting. My settings screen position isn't being remembered. This is probably because I've put background memory restrictions on apps for battery savings. I will look into that

Sorry, I just double checked on mine, and it doesn't remember it. I swear it did, at least on my Note 20 Ultra.
Or maybe I'm just going crazy

I like the concept. I like that you are able to quickly get an overview of messages, calendar, calls and you can adjust was you like it. It would be better if it had facebook, twitter intergration as part of all the other info panels also.
The only issue here I see is that the whole notion of android is the widgets...which I like. I'll keep it on for awhile to test it out. Maybe it will grow on me.
It's basically windows mobile homescreen.
I agree with archboy, great concept, but still missing some customization features. The ability to move an item from the top half to the bottom half is needed. This would be great if it could also be used as a fullscreen widget, so that I could still use the rest of my screens.
I wish this was a lock screen.
IMO, this information oriented approach instead of the action/application oriented approach is much better in terms of productivity.
The only drawback of this application? I cannot access to some widgets/actions and I do really want to be able to do things like enable wireless, 3g, change brightness... without the pain of going through the setup menus.
A good solution to this problem would be a light weight home screen app which could be launched from slide screen and load the the 4 or 5 widgets I need. I've tried aHomeMini but it forcecloses, any suggestions?
@iVisionX01: yeah, having it as a lock screen is also great but, again, I won't need the full featured home app.

2nd that
Tried it for a couple of hours, but missing customizability and getting settings too far out of reach made me uninstall quickly.
I wish it was a widget!
Try QuickDesk or PowerStrip with this, working great for me, very pleasing to the eye..
wow i cant believe i missed this home screen
should be perfect with QuickDesk and PowerStrip
i dont get it??? Whats it suppose to do??
It's a shame FroYo won't let you change default launcher programatically any more (you have to do it through the settings). I would love to have had Tasker set this is default when I was at work, then LauncherPro the rest of the time
I havn't found a browser that I like 100%. I like Dolphin but I want something a little more clean/simple. Thats why, yesterday, I thought of making my own in photoshop (for now).
Let me know what you think.

So, that would be the main page. The three dots next to the Google logo would be a drop down menu for switching search engines and including others like Wikipedia, Wolfram-Alpha, Yahoo, ect. The icons at the bottom are from left to right: Home, Tabs (like when you do a home screen view on Sense/Launcher Pro/ADW/Go Launcher), Back/Front (Can be used on websites or tabs), Bookmarsk, Options.
The whole thing would also go into full screen mode and the top and bottom navigation bars would be brought up using the menu button (optional).
Again, very simple. At the bottom you have your main operations. Sort by (most viewed, alphabetical, ect.), Edit bookmark names/urls, and batch delete.
This is options menu. Options are seperated into three categories, Display, User and Misc.
I just realized that I forgot the enable/disable toggles (duh).
Anyway, this is pretty much my dream browser more or less. Im still working on some other things in photoshop.
Let me know what you guys think.
By the way, I got most of the icons from here...
http://yankoa.deviantart.com/art/Windows-Phone-7-Icons-166077852
I guess I would have to make my own if I actually developed this.
It's nice but i hate apps that doesn't use the native style of Android...why does everyone think that he needs to create an own UI?
Looks clean. I'd give it a try.
Unintentionally sent from my Nexus One using xda premium.
I'd definitely use it

Not sure what you mean by that. If I used the native style of Android wouldn't it be just like the stock browser? Therefore, it would be pointless in me making one?
Im by no means a professional UI designer so im probably misunderstanding what you are saying.
I do agree with you about apps that Android doesn't already have stock though.

Lol, yah. Im in love with how the Metro UI looks. Pretty much why im so excited about ICS.
I love my nexus 5 but UIs that require me to touch the top left of the screen are hard to reach. Is there any way to apply a per app hack where the top bar can be stretched or maybe lowered? I appreciate I won't be using all of the screen but it will be worth it for a few specific instances e.g. gmail and hangouts.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying your problem is. Everything should be adjustable per your preferences by default. Maybe you can elaborate in more detail.
Had this issue with my Samsung note 2... One of the reasons I bought the nexus 5 is it fits my hands and my thumb can reach the entire screen. This doesn't answer your question but it was my solution to this problem.

Your picture actually did a great job of explaining what you meant to say. I understand now.
Silly question/statement, but do you know that pressing the "Back" arrow in most cases such as that should take your back to where you were. Most often, that specific option like you displayed, that you can't reach, can be activated the same way by hitting the back button.
There are however, plenty of apps and situations where you need to hit an option in the top left corner and the back button will NOT do this action. I have big hands and have gotten used to being able to tap something on any section of my screen.
You could try installing a mod/app to enable custom gestures in which you can swipe a gesture towards the right and set it to that function. (ex: gesture enabled when you swipe from the center of the right towards the middle, it activates a "back" option.
You can try installing "GMD Gesture Control" for this.
Just a suggestion?
Thanks for your reply! I didn't realise the back button could cater for some of these scenarios. I also didn't realise I could swipe from the left for a lot of these apps. This caters for most of the scenarios so I'm happy now, thanks!
Grabbing anywhere on the left edge of the screen and sliding right does the same as pressing the icon up high. Same goes go for play store.
good day.

None of my color codes are showing in month view.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
The new monthly view is simply retarded beyond anything imaginable. I hope the guys get their act together asap and fix this mess.

They're not supposed to. It shows you what day you're on. It will show you what day have appointments. That's all
That doesn't make sense, nor does it follow the desktop version which shows all colors. Why would I not want a quick glance to know exactly what I have going in each day in calendar view nose

It completely follows the desktop version
Top-left. It bolds the days with appointments and not the ones that haven't. It shows no colours.
Now there is another month view that can't fit in the app that shows more than colours and text but the whole appointments. That's not an overview though, like the app
What's a view nose?
A typo I never corrected. At one point my Google calender showed the color. So I'm not sure why 5.0 is acting dumb

Not in this view. You can do a maximum of 5 days using the menu in the top right corner. This monthly overview is just that. An overview of free days vs days with appointments.
Maybe the tablet version is more comprehensive? There are also other apps you can use.

The functionality got broken in the "upgrade" -- the only things we can do are wait for Google to fix it or switch to another calendar app.
My girlfriend's calender shows color fine, but I specifically remember a point where mine didn't, but somehow I fixed it. So maybe there is a easy way to fix this.
My t-mobile velvet 5g screen goes to muli-colors when I'm on a call. anyone know of some setting that may cause this?
thank you!
Maybe a screen shot?

Wtf? It looks like a wallpaper...
Maybe something to do with wallpapers or themes? Any wallpaper apps loaded?
Try in safe mode.
no wallpaper apps. I'll try setting a different theme, but I'm sure it's the default theme.
I'll google safe mode and try that. thank you for your help. I thought someone might recognize this as a setting.
I found the setting that was causing the problem. searching "screensaver" in settings found a selection for screensaver when docked or charging. I changed it to "none".
thanks for your reply!

Yay! Lol, Samsung's are notorious for their hidden settings. Sometimes in plain sight but others required a double tap on unmarked menu items
edit: I'm aware it's an LG. Koreans are sort of krazy in general... look at their graffiti
