Phone won't turn ON or Charge. - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there , i came to you because i think my phone done a short circuit, it was ON and pluged in an inactive USB port on my PC which i've plugged internaly just after.
Then i noticed that the low battery LED on the OnePlus doesn't blink anymore. First of all i thought about a complete discharge. But no charging LED. I've plugged the phone on the power adapter : No LED. This is when i started to freak out.
I've took appart the phone, removed the battery, mesured the voltage : 3.77 Volts. The battery is normaly 4.35 Volts.
Is it a big gap even if there is always a tolerance ?
Is my battery is dead ? Or something shorten the motherboard ?
I don't want to buy a new battery if this won't solve the issue, and i have no schematics to do a continious testing with my multimeter on the motherboard..
Any help is welcommed. Thanks.

I think you were too quick to take phone apart, you should have been keep the phone connected to charger for atleast 6 hours before taking it apart ..

Connect your OPO to Wall Charger, Charge it for about 10min or so. Press n Hold Power Button for at least 1min.
If nothing fancy happened to your phone than it should boot from dead. If not than think further.
BTW When you connect it to your pc, how's your pc recognize your device as?
Any QHSUSB_BULK 9006 Or 9008 error? If not than Its not Bricked yet. Just try to charge for 10min and check.

Do you have OnePlus drivers installed? Or Have you installed them previously?
There's no way Phone could go dead without any prior sign. I mean there must have been something happened to it before it gone dead brick!
What was last state when you saw it working beforeot went blank?

Of course my drivers are installed.... but the phone don't do anything when plugged, no charging LED, no reaction when i push the power button
Before he goes "dead" he has low battery.

Charging LED will only lit up while device is ON. If device was completely functional before it died, than I'm assuming it as Battery issues.
Did it ever got warm or hot near battery area? Since you've already took it apart to check voltages,so you know it better which area I'm talking about.
Most likely it could be Battery. If not anything major.

Okay so i got the phone to boot up. plugged it into usb : Phone don't got recognized. battery charging logo in status bar
Plugged to power adapter : Battery charging logo on status bar.
I noticed that the charge is incredibly slow. then i goes in parameters -> battery to check battery mode and stuff.
underneth the graph it says : 2% Not charging. But i got the logo on the status bar... ?
So here is a recap of the issues i got : Battery not charging, and discharging fast.
Not recognized by USB
No rear faced camera and flashlight.

If your device booted up, Can you post some screenshots of it? I just need to see whether a Port got damaged or something else.
BTW Which ROM you're ON? Have you ROOTED your OnePlus One in the past? Or Its Still Stock?

hi, how did you get it to boot up? are you running the device directly from USB power? or is it running on battery?

Hold volume up, nothing else and connect it to your PC. After that check device manager and find "QHSUSB_Bulk. If you can find that one, send me a PM.

Check to see if the computer will recognize it.

plug it into a wall charger, the one that came with it, or better yet one that is more powerful and let it sit for a while then try to hold the volume buttons to get to fastboot or recovery where you can let it sit and charge fully before flashing anything. If it will not charge off the wall you will have to use the Macgyver method that involves splicing a cable to charge the battery directly. It is really quite easy to do, so don't worry. Essentially you just need to get power to the phone so you can flash then charge the battery. take a usb cable (make sure it is not your only micro usb for the phone, any old usb cable will work but you will need a normal one too) and cut the end off. strip the red and black wires a few millimeters and get those to contact between the battery + and - (red to + black to -)and the terminals on the phone with the battery in and plug that into your computer. MAKE SURE YOU ONLY TOUCH TO THE CORRECT TERMINALS OR YOU WILL LIKELY FRY YOUR PHONE AND/OR BATTERY. get into fastboot, plug in a normal usb cable leaving the direct to battery one, and flash as fast as possible, the 5 volts is a bit much to charge the battery with and could damage it if left for a long time. once you are up and running again remove the macgyver cable and charge it up normally. I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF THIS HURTS YOUR PHONE.!!!!

You can try buying a charger for the battery on ebay that can charge it out of the phone. If you have a multimeter test the battery voltage and see if it is at or above the listed voltage (3.7 i think), that will tell you if it is charged or not.

You need to micguyver the battery to charge. I had the same problem.go down to AT&T and swap a battery out to see if it works?

Take the battery out and plug it into the charger, then insert the battery while still on the charger. You should see the battery icon come up on the screen, power up holding the volume up and down buttons and it should boot into the menu giving you the fastboot option, choose fastboot then flash using RSD

You may also have a bad USB cable. They do have a lifespan, as with anything else (I've gone through 2 or so in 10 months) especially if used/plugged in and out from your phone to USB to charger more than an average user may.
Also, if you're battery is very low and is on the verge of a shutoff, your laptop's USB might not be adequate to give enough voltage/mA to the battery to charge it -and more so if it actually does shut off. The charging time depends on the charging current. Wall charger is around 850-1000ma, USB is usually around 500ma (for some older PC laptops, it could be as low as 200ma) That said, charging from a wall outlet power source will be (or should be) faster than vis USB to PC charging. The MB865's battery capacity is generally around 1735mA, so 1735÷1000= 1.73 hours to full charge from full discharge.

dunno if this will help, there was this one time when I was playing scramble and suddenly the phone switched off and just wouldnt turn back on. Tried charging it and a white notification light was turned on continuosly without any of the general charging screen notificatn (battery indicator)
What helped me was tht I removed the batt, set it back, charged it for an hour or so, turned off the charger and tried to turn it back again, luckily it worked out for me. See it it helps.
Couple things: one as apex said, charge with the stock charger if possible. If you only have a PC, DO NOT use a front USB slot. As they are lower power slots than the rear ones.

[Q] Nexus 5 -- Blinking red light?

Hello,
So I was playing around flashing roms from here last night, and I was able to load up a rom that I liked, and get it configured to my liking. I noticed while doing that the phone started to get really hot. I didn't think anything of it, and left it on the charger and went to bed. This morning I woke up and the phone has a blinking red light. I did some Googling and it said that it was a completely drained battery. So I put it back on the charger and now the phone was able to boot back up, it says charging, but it is just at 0% and it doesn't seem to go anywhere from there (plugged in via computer) any ideas?

I put it on the wall charger and left it set for a few minutes, and then it showed up at 7% so I'm really relieved I didn't brick my phone. I just don't get why it didnt charge last night, I know I plugged it in...

Yeah that's strange behavior. My dad was playing a game on his N7 which was hooked up to his PC when it suddenly died.
Scared the hell out of him, turned out it hadn't been charging through USB for some reason, or maybe not enough.
Weird about last night. Maybe it wasn't plugged in completely. Have you tried the same socket? Maybe it's dead.

The computer charges android devices really slowly. When you're playing a game, it will drain faster than it charges, especially if you charge it by a PC/Mac and not a main power source

Is the led still blinking after 1.5 hours on the charger? Maybe try a more powerful charger? Different USB cable?

Just had the same problem after not charging the phone for 10 months (broke while I was travelling). Just got it working after I ordered and installed a screen replacement from Alibaba. Needed to try 3 different USB Cables.
Maybe just a different USB cable would have solved the problem?
Charging via a computer is the last thing to do. The output is so low.
Hi guys,
I'm having the same problem. My phone has been charging for about twelve hours now and it still won't turn on. I tried using different outlets, but not a different charger since I only have one (original one) and my friends phone did charge with that charger. I also tried pressing the power- and volume button at the same time, but still nothing. Everytime I take my phone out of the charger and plug it in again, the red light starts blinking for a while but then it dies off and nothing happens anymore. Does anyone have anymore tips?
Thanks
Sounds like the battery needs to be replaced or you need a more powerful charger.
i've got this problem except anytime a charging cable is connected, the phone powers on and off continually as if the power button is stuck. tried swapping batteries with a spare n5 i have with a cracked screen and bad IMEI (lousy ebay purchase), made no difference. same thing occurs even with battery disconnected. there's no way to boot into recovery. the red LED blinks when the phone powers off momentarily. tried various cables to charge, multiple locations. any ideas?
Saved me!!
Saved my nexus 5, i love this phone and don't want to lose it even after three years passed way!

Does your pc detect anything when you plug usb cable ?
Yes, it detects, but then disconnects, can it be a problem in the battery?
Chances are you have received a refurbished device or defective battery.
Try and find another Mi4 user for trial of the battery or let's see you need to contact the vendor soon.

Charge via wall adapter. Leave it for some time.
PS: When your battery reaches 9-10%, it is advisable to charge it back to 100%.

I just got this issue 10min ago. Havn't depleted the battery on the phone for a very long time, my guess is that it hasn't calibrated the battery in a while or something like that. Will keep it in the fast charger during the night and then i'll reply here.
EDIT: Normally the red LED is constantly on when the battery is low and it's in the charger, now it's flashing which makes it look a bit more scary.
EDIT2: Works fine now after a night of charging
Charger could be not pushing enough voltage to charge battery. Try another one to see if it remedies the issue.
I do have the same problem with my Mi4. I wanted to start the update in the Updater app (to Android 6 version of Xiaomi.eu) and suddenly it turned off (at 100% battery). When I connect my phone with my computer it is recognized and all the partitions are mounted. And with all I mean all. There are about 7 partitions mounted (Linux and Windows) and they keep being mounted until I disconnect the phone. I let my Mi4 on the wall charger for 24 hours (2A Samsung one which charges all my other devices without any problems) but I still have the blinking red light after connecting it to the charger. Any other things I can do to get it running again?
EDIT: I can't see the phone in fastboot or adb and when I keep the power button pressed for about 10s it seems to disconnect and instantly reconnect the phone.

I solved this problem on my own. Even though the phone doesn't show up on the fastboot devices list you can use the Mi Flash Tool to flash the fastboot update (http://xiaomiadvices.com/miui-7-flash-fastboot-rom-on-xiaomi-phones-using-mi-flash-tool/). The drivers installed with the Mi Flash Tool for the Windows 10 Mobile Release (http://en.miui.com/thread-189369-1-1.html) recognize all the partitions as one device and show it with a cryptical name in the flash list.
Hi ! I fully charged the phone and after it shuted down. It doesn't starts. PC doesn't see it. When I'm plugin the wire just half way into the phone the red light stays on for a few seconds and than nothing at all. Can anyone help me?

Phone only charges in recovery mode

I have a moto g6 I used a while ago. I upgraded my phone when it stopped charging. I thought it was the USB-C port, and moved on to a new phone.
I just took the old phone out again and booted into recovery mode this morning. I plugged it in and it charged (in recovery mode). It trickle (slow) charged for most of the day. I then booted the phone up about 2 hours ago and it was mostly charged.
I tried plugging the charger back in, and again..... no charging.
I booted back into recovery mode and alas. Charges. Albeit slowly.
It only charges when it's booted in recovery mode. Any thoughts?
<bump>
⌐(ಠ۾ಠ)¬
Does it charge when powered off?
Nope. When it's powered off, it will start powering up as soon as I plug it in. If the battery is full, it just boots up the phone when I plug it in. If the battery is dead, it will show the boot logo, battery 0%, and restart. On loop.
It only charges/detects there is a charger plugged in when booted into recovery mode.

You mean when it's been completely powered off ie shutdown it boots up by itself up when you plug in the charger?
Completely power off the phone and try the charger.
Sorry, just tested again and I'm wrong, slightly.
When I plug it in while turned off, it will show the lightning icon, then a battery percentage, then restart. It never boots up by itself when plugging it in.

Are you commanding it to restart ie hitting the power button?
If not it's either a firmware failure or more likely a hardware failure.
Self-restarts. Without any action on my part. It just shows the current battery % and then boot loops.
I had the USB port tested at one of those 'fix your phone' places (when the problem first occurred) and they said the USB port is fine and it's something else causing the problem.
I just find it super strange that in recovery mode, it will actually charge. I had given up on this device and I'm using a new phone now, but the fact that it charges in recovery makes me want to get this thing back up as a spare.
I spent a LOT of time on google for this and I have not found any useful information or ideas.

Are you commanding it to restart ie hitting the power button?
If not it's either a firmware failure or more likely a hardware failure.

Try a factory reset if stock.
Reflash firmware to known stable version.
Hopefully that will fix it but don't count on it.
If that doesn't get it than it's a mobo failure or less likely an issue with a connector.
Depending how it's laid out it could be a failure in a subassembly rather than mobo.
Sorry...
Epic necro, but wanted to reply to say I have the exact same issue with a Oneplus 5T right now. But I think I can add one note: I installed AccuBattery and that shows that the phone *does* charge when connected under Android (even though the charging icon doesn't show), but very slowly; it's charging at 500mA, which I believe is the base USB spec max for power transfer.
In typical use it's entirely possible you consume more power than that, so the battery percentage would still drop and the phone wouldn't appear to be charging. I suspect it's actually doing the same in recovery mode, but recovery mode uses much less power - so 500mA is actually enough to trickle-charge it - and does show the + sign to indicate charging.
I haven't found any fix yet either I do suspect blackhawk is right and it must be a hardware issue. I'm gonna take it to some repair places and see if I can avoid a big replacement bill.
Is the battery good? Or is SOT short?
Could be a failed battery.
Any swelling is a failure.
Erratic fast charging is a symptom of a battery failure.
Li's can fail at any time in their life cycle.
Typically in a heavily used device they last 1-2 years. When they reach 80% of their original capacity they have reach the end of their service life, are degraded and should be replaced. A degraded Li is more likely to fail.
An easy fix if so.
Nope, already replaced the battery not long ago. It was indeed the port: took it in for repair and the guy said the trace connecting the port to the motherboard was basically gone, probably wear/damage over time (this phone is five years old and has been dropped a few times). He fixed that and it's back to charging like a champ and connecting to PCs fine again. So, if OP is still trying to fix their G6, might want to try a different repair shop...
Actually its a software bug. Factory reset ur device from recovery mode may problem will be solve.

Ono, is my device bricked? ...helpp

So I was playing league of legends the battery drained the phone shut down, and didn't charge, maybe it is a hardware problem but when I plug it in the charger the notification light blinks red 3times or when I press any button, sometime when I try to boot into recovery or the system the leeco logo comes(eg: leeco recovery) and nothing, black screen.

Happened with me too.. that too few times, I'll suggest you to put phone on charge for sometime then unplug your phone and try starting it.. if it doesn't boot, try changing charging cable. And try again it might just the cable who's the culprit, phone shows red light of death when it's deep discharged.

some sgs3(Samsung galaxy s 3 )has same sudden death bug,
so theres no fix other than buying a new phone?
This happened with me few days ago. I was panicking. I cleaned out the charging port carefully and it started charging again
This happened ~2 years ago as well and I had to change some hardware from a repair shop. This phone really sucks. I'm getting a new device
