Why is my tablet suddenly so slow. - Asus Transformer TF700

I know this is an old tablet but it is running so slow that I can't figure out why. I'm talking so slow that it takes 10 seconds at least to go to the home screen. I'm sure Asus has sunsetted this but it worked great and now is nearly unusable. I did install zombi mid and it helped but it is still incredibly slow. Do I just throw it away? It did everything I wanted to use it for.

Did you ever do a full format of data?
I don't mean a wipe, I mean formatting.

Hrm, no. I will try that next. Thank you

If you're running any recent TWRP version formatting takes 1 hour plus and will erase all your data. Don't interrupt it!
Reinstall the rom and your apps and you will be amazed what difference it makes.

My Transformer is unusable after 3.2 update :(

I got the update and it went smooth, but I noticed my wifi was connecting and the keyboard was very unresponsive, so I went into setting and I got force closes - one after another, for everything... launcher, Wifi settings, the settings app, any app I launch and everything is so slow . Right now I'm looking at another launcher force close and I can't do anything without it causing more epic crashes
Thanks ASUS, but this sucks.
P.S. WTF with the new cursor!!!!
mine works fine.

Great. This update screwed me so bad that it won't even let me copy my sdcard data to an external drive so I can wipe this this clean and start over... I really need that data off the device!!
An adapter for the sd card is cheap. Just remove it and plug it into adapter and adapter into a pc or Mac

And do what? It's not allowing me to copy files and is force closing every few seconds ...
Have you powered down and then powered back on? Everything was crashing on mine, but once I turned it completely off and restarted it's been fine. Give it a try.
Mines working fine. Make sure you cold boot after the update.
Sucks man. Mine works great

I think the idea is to put the card into a PC and get the files that way. In this scenario, what the TF is doing is irrelevant.

I actually don't mind the new cursor, since it's only for the trackpad (that I can't be terribly precise with anyways). And, the effects are kind of cool.
The normal cursor remains with an external mouse, where it's really needed.

Except the round cursor will make remote desktop use very difficult (I use remote desktop 5+ hours a day) and using an external mouse defeats the purpose of keeping things compact or lap-usable.
ASUS should not be messing with core functions like that. Even the trackpad scroll direction is messed up.
i had the same problem . just do the factory reset it will fix everything.

I'm trying I found out that I can get away with copying one directory at a time, so I can save my data, but it will take a while. Factory reset when that's done.
Nice, having to do a factory reset after FOTA with all the work of reinstalling apps. This is something that should not happen!
Well this is major poo poo. A factory reset didn't help much. My tablet feels like it's running on 100mhz... The stock browser took over a minute to load! Installing apps takes over 30 seconds when it should be more like 5. I tap on something and nothing happens... And then I get a force close...
Thank god for this iPad....
I love the performance changes they've done in 3.2, the desktop and widgets rendering optimizations are really noticeable.
I don't use the trackpad very much, but i don't think that making the reversal change without any configurable setting to turn it back to its previous behaviour was a good idea.
I hope they release a minor update to fix all known issues in this version, especially for that annoying "8 dance" bug in applications that don't actually use the compass constantly, like Samurai 2. I love Sky Maps but with this constant compass interference bug its really unusable.
my 3.2
Mines ok, except that friggin compass calibration during samurai 2 turned gps and location services off and it still does it, dungeon defenders is fine though so i dunno.
just a thought
Do you have an app killer? Do you have too many apps running? It is amazing how much stuff is running in the back ground if you don't force close stuff periodically. Hope you get it sorted.
I belive I found the problem. I noticed that the process "android.process.media" was clocking 100% cup for DAYS and I came across a few others who had this issue with their phones. There was an "app" that I needed to clear the cache and data from and a short time after the android.process.media process began to run normally.
Now, I don't get those force closes or slowdowns... who knows what the heck that was all about, but I hope it never happens again!

Atrix 2 - Official ICS - running very very slow these days - Help!

Hello Guys!
I own an Atrix 2 and am currently on Official ICS. My phone was working fine all along.
Recently I've noticed that the phone runs extremely slow many times. I have to power off & on many times a day to keep it functioning properly.
It is mostly sluggish these days and I don't understand why. I tried uninstalling recently installed apps but, nothing seems to be helping.
This is my first Android phone and am lost!
Any help would be appreciated.
Thx.

IF you think you phone is giving poor performance on official ICS then why don't you try custom roms . Read/Research on MIUI and I think you will get best performance. BUT READ TILL YOU UNDERSTAND EVERY ABOUT COUSTOM ROMS.

Hi,
What you are saying may be correct however, the same phone was performing superbly on Official ICS for around 6 months. It's been a few weeks that the phone has become sluggish.
I need to find out the root cause for this and rectify that.

You could try wipe cache...
Turn off the phone and then press and hold at the same time: the Power button, Vol up and Down Key until the bootloader screen comes up
Volume down to recovery and than hit Volume up to select
When the Android with the the Red Triangle appears push the vol up and down button together
Scroll to clear cache partition and push the power button
Wait for it to clear and than choose reboot once complete by pushing the power button.
It might be some rogue app.. Try uninstalling any app you installed recently.. Worst case, backup all apps and data, try a factory reset.. After that, restore only the apps you really need.. One by one when you get time and find out what was causing the problem..

Try downloading a Cache Cleaner like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.cache.cleaner. You could also make a titanium backup of all your apps and do a factory reset.
You might also try and do a FXZ and start over. It seems odd, sometimes that fixes all of the little oddities that pop up including slowness that shows up out of nowhere.
I faced the same problem a month ago. Opening Messages, Settings, EVEN PICKING CALLS, took 7-15 secs.
Turned out it was Android OS/ the Kernel. Whenever the WiFi status changed and some other reasons, the Android OS seemed to take 100% CPU usage for about 1-3 min. Also sometimes I had other processes such as kworker2, kworker3 and others. It took me many apps such as Watchdog, Systempanel, etc to find it out.
Even still I got tired and did a Factory Reset, Rooted it and installed Another ROM. Now its Working fine.
My suggestion would be a Factory Reset (Dont forget Backup if you need to). :good:
Tried the clear Cache Thing as well as uninstalled most of the apps which I never use. Phone started functioning good for some time.
But, now again the same thing.
Thinking about FXZ now. What is FXZ and how do you do it?
Factory reset I can consider but, does it really help?
I notice that the sluggishness starts when WIFI is on and the phone is connected to my home WIFI.

Go to your wireless settings and "Forget" the home wifi connection. Reboot your router and phone, then sign back in to your WIFI.
If you are thinking about FXZ, then you might as well try the FDR first.
Start here and read and read again:

If you decide to go the FXZ route, please ask and confirm which firmware to use with your Atrix2. Many BRICKED their phones flashing the WRONG FXZ!

Ok, thanks :good:
slow atrix2 - email trash folder
I was having the same issue - tried wiping the cache (both via the system and with various cache wiping apps). Eventually I would get a slow atrix2 again. I noticed that the trash folder for my pop3 email accounts did not clean itself up, so I did a select all and deleted the messages from the trash folder. This was thousands of trash emails. Three days later and my atrix2 is still snappy. I'm hopeful that this was the issue.

I swiped right past it when I was looking. My RAM is nowhere near that. System 442 MB, Apps 635 RAM, Free 779MB
Day two here. Not an Issue. I clean wiped.
Did you dirty flash? If yes, reflash and do a clean.
Did you reinstall apps using googles back up? If yes, wipe and when resetting up do not use this service.
Did you just clean wipe because that usually fixes stuff? If not. You may want to try it.

Weird... My system is only take about 200 MB
This problem happen also with last dev preview. Of course i have done a full wipe to install lollipop final.
I'm only using have the ram. No issues here. You may have an app not optimized for lollipop.
i know this may not be the optimal solution but FB apps? just run a day without them and then see if the problem still persists.
Only 67mb here....
Normal for me here too been running for almost 24 hours.

[Q] Android L really slow and laggy after turning on device encryption

Does anyone else have this problem also? Is there a fix or would a full wipe and clean install resolve it? I would prefer to keep full disk encryption on, but not if it slows my phone down so much. It seems as though the phone takes 2-3 seconds to respond to every key press.

I have the exact same experience on my Nexus 5 - wiping it to check if it's because of encryption. It's unusable with encryption and I think Lolliflop is by itself already too heavy for the Nexus 5 which is apparent in the dialer animation actions and button response times even without encryption.
<rant> Screw you Google for not doing better testing and half-baked crap. </rant>

Constant freeze up

Dealing with a constant freeze up about every ten minutes that lasts up to 30 seconds at a time. It seems to happen with apps that connect to the internet. I am running MM. Even when I was running LP it would do this just not as much. I've tried closing background apps and that doesn't help. It also seems to only happen on WiFi. Any suggestions?

yeah. I can relate to the SD card issue... plug your SD card into your PC, backup any files, and do a full format. not a quick format. I recommend formatting with DISKPART in windows terminal if you know how. that's the only way I know its been fully formatted. BUT only do it this way if you completely know what you're doing. I don't want any issues blamed on me. USE DISKPART AT YOUR OWN RISK
