It's dead.
RIP Nexus 5 2013-2016
I recommend connecting the phone to a windows computer and look in device manage to see if any new devices appear. If you see something like USB BULK, it's bricked but may be fixable.

I am having the same problem. I noticed that something appeared named QHSUSB_BULK. But how to fix it. Please help. I will be very thankful.
My mistake, if the qhsusb bulk is a hard brick that may be fixable but you can look here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/unbrick-lg-model-download-recovery-t3060184
Other types of brick are fixable: https://forum.xda-developers.com/go...-unbrick-nexus-5-stucked-qualcomm-hs-t3043301
If it happened without you playing around with the bootloader then it is most likely the EMMC that is faulty(fried/dead)

Hello! Last night, my phone died while I was out. When I got home, I plugged it into the wall charger and I noticed the LED didn't come on. I left it charging overnight for about 6 hours and tried to turn it on - no luck. I read on another topic that you needed to charge it to ~2% through USB for it to begin charging on the wall if it's "too" dead, so I left it on my laptop for an hour but again with no luck. I did notice that my laptop couldn't recognize a device though, and since my phone was the only thing plugged in, it means my phone was 'on'. I held the power button and the device disconnected, held the power button again, the unknown device reconnected. So my phone is turning on and off, so I wondered it was my screen. I turned it on, but no sounds worked when I messed with the volume button, so I'm going to rule the screen out. Despite being able to turn 'on', I can't get into recovery and it won't truly turn on.
I'm rooted and unlocked, running a version of PA, though I haven't updated it in some months and haven't downloaded anything other than a picture or two to my phone recently, so I don't think I've bricked it or anything.
I've never used ADB or fastboot or anything like that, so if there's a solution through that I'd be happy to try it out. If there's anything I forgot to mention, please tell me!
Thanks in advance for any help I can get.
This has happened to some people. It seems like going completely dead can somehow corrupt something in the firmware in rare cases.
Open Device Manager and plug in your phone, then see what pops up. If you see QHUSB_DLOAD, your phone has bricked, but it may be fixable. Check into the Unbricking Evita thread and see if the guys there can help.
Failing that, get a warranty exchange.
Try different button combinations (hold power, or hboot combination) while the phone is plugged into the wall charger. At least one person I was trying to help, got his phone to power on this way, when nothing else seemed to work.
Sounds like you're phone is in qdl mode. i second trying the unbricking thread.
Hi guys,
My phone ran out of juice today. When I got home, I connected it to the charger, got about 2 mins of use from it (while it was charging), then suddenly the screen went black (back-lit soft keys stayed illuminated) and the phone started vibrating (softly).
Then eventually it just switched off completely.
Now it seems not be charging at all. The LED charge light isn't coming on. And every now and then while charged, the phone starts that vibrating softly thing. Leaving it connected to the charger for over 1 hour, it starts getting really hot!
Any ideas or am I screwed??
Thanks,
TD
The same happened to me, and the phone war really dead.
If you plug it to the pc via usb cable do you have a qualcomm usb download-mode peripheral? If yes, I really fear that it's gone... At least that was my case.
Sent it to RMA, and they changed my "logic board" (guess that's the soc)...
Edit: in my case, it didn't run out of juice just before, but the same is identical...
Ah that doesn't sound too reassuring lol.
I'll connect it to pc later today and check.
I figured it could be the charging port itself that is damaged and not allowing it to charge to properly?
If its out of manufacturer warranty, how much would it cost to fix, if at all?
thanks,
Nick

If it gets hot I would assume its consuming power or the battery is effed up. Are you able to access hboot or Have you tried to see if adb recognizes your device?
echó en Android
This sounds familiar but if I remember right it happened to me after flashing a bad kernel. It got stuck while booting and wouldn't respond to anything. I don't know how but I managed to resurrect it with a random combo of holding power and volume keys and plugging the cable in and out. After a while it booted into bootloader and I was relieved.

Take out the battery for a few seconds and put it back; then while holding Volume UP (+) press the Power Button.
See what happens...

Nothing. Happens it don't light up or power on at all. It is not reconized on computer either. It's hard bricked.
Make sure the Battery is charging...
How can I make sure the battery is charging when no lights come on at all? All I do know is I had it plugged in for a while yesterday and it got really warm. But no lights whatsoever. The screen doesn't light up at all neither does the led.
??????
There are no notification lights on the D720, but when you plug it in with a charger, you should see a battery bar on the display.
Other than that, you are probably right about hard-brick.
I, luckily, never had a "brick" on the Nexus S, so someone else with experience may wanna chime in. But Google and YouTube are your friends.
Sorry...

Please help me, i have the same problem
been awhile since any action here. saved mine with JIG method once but this time it won't work ??!(why) , in search of a solution again! -> hardbrick #2 on this device!
You guys can try a USB Jig. If that does not help, I think JTAG is what you need.
Jesus... just to revive this thread (and this concept of hard bricking), I think I just accidentally bricked mine as well.
Here's exactly what I did:
One moment, it was working spectacularly - fully stock, but unlocked. I had just listed it on eBay, too.
So I ran a factory reset on it (from the Settings menu), also "erase USB storage".
Then, after it shut down for the reboot, I pulled the battery.
...
That was it. Now it doesn't turn on for anything whatsoever. No device detected on USB when plugged into PC. Remove, replace battery, hold VolUp+Power, nothing. Plug into power adapter, nothing. Nothing at all.
But the back does get lukewarm after a minute or so, as if it's alive in the head but frozen, unable to start the bootloader.
WTF? I also have 2 more of these Nexus S 4G's, and both of them seem to have Flash storage chips that exhibit the same behavior when their chips are placed in (this) working motherboard. They can't boot. When I try to "hot-flash" it by booting the bootloader then swapping the Flash chips, they can't flash anything (this is probably to be expected). So, if I can get my ONCE-WORKING phone back to life, there's a good chance I can get another working as well (one just has a cracked glass, otherwise working mainboard & peripherals).
It's old, yes, but it's a damn shame to E-waste these things for a stupid software problem like this!
It's a long history.
One day, my Moto G stop charging. He charge until 1%, then turn itself on, and when it was on, it wasn't charging. I thought that was a OS/software problem, but nothing was sloving. I send to warranty and there they send me back saying that a piece was oxidated and was my fault, so they can't help me. When the cellphone arrive back, it was charging normaly. I really doesn't understand. But my PC wasn't showing the smartphone when plugged in the USB port. I started to use AirDroid.
I have a little struggle to update to Android 4.4.2 but I did it. The smartphone was really weird, but I let it go. Now I have the most annoying problem. It keep turning off by itself. I don't know if is software/OS, hardware, some app, something I'm doing wrong, but it's driving me crazy.
Please guys, help =[
P.S.: Sorry my bad english.
I had same issue where it turned off on its own and wouldn't charge. I plug cable to wall charger and held power button for 1 minute nothing happened so I kept pressing power button repeatedly until it vibrated and started charging.

So, it's charging normally now, but it keeps turning off itself. Another annoying problems is that it turn itself on when I connect it in the USB port on my PC, but not when I plug on wall charger.
Sorry for the double post, but I'm don't know what to do anymore! Please, someone help me! Any ideas!
Try this
Plug it in
Hold power button for 2-3 mins
Leave it charging for an hour then unplug
Hold power button for 30 seconds it should vibrate and boot

I guess you missing the point: I CAN charge and I CAN turn it on. The problem is that the cellphone keeps turning itself off at random. Random time, in random activites.

Hi are you able to connect the phone to a PC? If so I would transfer important data and then do a factory reset to see if that solves your issue sounds more like a software problem to me.
Already did a Factory Reset (the one in Configuration, the one the Fastboot just normally boot the device) and the problem persist.
So no one can help me? =[

does the phone fades purple then goes crazy then shuts down for a while then turns back on?
It did it when I did something different, trying to turning on or recovery, I don't really remember. I remember that I freaked out, because the screen was black, without changing, than I did a reset (Power + Volume Up) and then it reseted.
You already try charging with wall charger? Maybe your PC don't have enough power to recharge this phone
I was able to charge the phone, Anyway, the device stopped to turning off alone. By itself. I didn't do anything different.
I'm so confused.
Something is shorting out inside, probably due to the said oxidation, which will most likely result in such behavior.
If you know how to do it, just open the phone, take the pcb out and clean it well with a dry contract cleaner and a hard toothbrush to remove any oxidation and possible residue.
Later I was thinking that could be it. So if anything goes wrong, I'll do it or ask to someone with a little more experience to do for me.
Thanks.

Some Moto G's do turn themselves ON when you plug in a charger, I have 2 and both do it - you connect the phone when it is turned OFF and then it turns itself on! Sometimes if I plug in the charger and turn OFF the phone quickly it stays off.
It's a bug / feature / quirk but it's unfortunately normal so you can discount that as being a problem related to your other problem.

I'm having this exact problem too. The phone is less than a month old. Twice this week its happened. Phone was close to fully charged on going to bed, I still checked some emails while it was plugged in.. the charging symbol was also on, so I know it was charging ok when I put it down... then in the morning, wake up, phone is off, but the battery display is showing 100% (The big one shown on screen when it is turned off)
Potentially if I was only using my phone as an alarm, I'd have not woken up. I always use a backup, but now this Moto G worries me!
Seems a few people are having this issue!
I just got this very neatly used 32GB Nexus 5 and on arrival yesterday afternoon it worked well except for the reboot problem the seller indicated. I flashed stock all over and rooted and installed ElementalX kernel for tap to wake and everything was going well, until last night when it just up and died on me. I thought maybe the battery was drained and I plugged it on the charger. It wasn't charging so I left it overnight. On waking up the phone is still dead. Doesn't charge, doesn't boot, nothing. I've opened it up, disassembled it to check all the parts, and everything looks fine. I also tested the battery by touching the tip of my tongue to the connector and I got the normal tingy feeling indicating the battery still has juice in it. I also checked the two LDIs and they are all still white; no water damage. I'm just at my wit's end now and considering getting another motherboard if that would fix it, but I just want to ask if there is any hope through any kind of fix before I commit to getting a new motherboard.
It might be that ?

Thanks for your response but my phone is not even booting up at all. It's just dead. Not booting, not charging, nothing. Thanks again.
IF you press power and the volume buttons and connect it to computer, did you have in device manager something?
If it was something like QHSUSB ... you can try that (it use and LG debuging software who reflash the nexus all at stock like in the factory) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...-unbrick-nexus-5-stucked-qualcomm-hs-t3043301
If not it was possible that the EMMC is dead
I hope i have help you

I tried that but nothing comes up in Device Manager at all. The computer does not detect the phone in any way at all too. I think the motherboard is dead. I ordered another working Nexus 5 with a broken screen on ebay to use and swap out the motherboard.
Thanks for your replies. I appreciate it.
