PC fails to install drivers, wont connect to phone - Samsung Infuse 4G

I guess there were posts like this already, but none of the solutions have worked for me. Plug phone into PC, PC says drivers failed to install etc etc. I have already tried a million diff cables, tried diff PCs, tried on PC and on MAC, tried all of my USB ports, downloaded, installed/uninstalled kies/kies mini, used usbdeview to delete anything with Samsung or Android, turned USB debugging ON/OFF, and tried booting PC in safe mode. I just finished replacing my cracked screen so I figured I'd try tackling this issue. I'm not super savvy with this kinda stuff I just followed a root tutorial to root my phone after I got it. I've scoured the net trying to figure out what's wrong with my phone and I cant seem to find a fix that works with my phone. Let me know what other info I should provide. TY.
Model: SGH-I997
Firmware: 2.2.1

I tried to include some screen shots of my phone's stats for more info, but I'm not allowed to post any links.

Hi,
If I recall correctly, this worked for me:
> Android Development and Hacking > Android Software and Hacking General [Developers Only] > [TOOL] [WINDOWS] ADB, Fastboot and Drivers - 15 seconds ADB Installer v1.4.3
That should help you with ADB at the very least, with Kies (Mini) completely removed. However, if you want Download Mode drivers, you will need to find the Samsung drivers for the i997 (as they are not packaged with Kies, nor do I recall Kies being necessary).
Hope this helps.

Infuse drivrrs
I had the same issue. Samsung started the "you have an old phone", and that made me think--use an old computer. Using mini Kies on an XP computer I had no problems connecting. Windows 10 however I never got anything to work--even setting compatibility modes.

What have I done?: Not bricked but phone can't be recognized any longer

I was trying to install Cyanogen 7 and my first step was a one-click return to stock that seemed to complete fine.
When I rebooted I go into Android 3e recovery. Each time I boot the recovery message says:
Update media. please wait
update media. finished
#manual mode#
--Applying Multi-CSC...
Installing Multi-CSC
Install default apk-files. please wait
Install default apk-files. finished
The phone is no longer recognized by windows even though I've tried several different versions of the Samsung drivers. (also tried different USB ports, different cables and different computers per my search results in here)
I can get into Download mode but the device is not recognized so its not recognized by any of the ODIN utilities to repair or restore...
Any idea what is going on - or more importantly what can I do to recover this thing?
Help?
Thanks!
First of all, I would try Heimdall One-Click instead of Odin. It's more reliable, and uses better drivers. Will it not reboot into Froyo? And which one-click package did you use?
I used the Heimdall One-Click and it seemed to complete okay. Trouble started when I rebooted. I can't seem to redo it because the the One click utilities don't recognize the phone as connected.
I always get the Windows message "USB Device is not recognized" and when I go into my Device Manager the phone is listed as an "Unknown Device"
I would strongly advise against flashing back to froyo or eclair as the bootloaders are out dated.. As.for.your phone not being recognized it could be a number of issues from anywhere to ypur pc.needs a reboot to your usb cable is bad. I once had the same issue and i reinstalled the samsung drivers a few times with no reults. Believe it or not what fixed my problem was a fresh install of kies (a program i never use)

I installed Keis, rebooted and it did in fact recognize and re-install the drivers. I then tried the heimdall 1-click and it failed on the attemped handshaking with Loke step. Now I am back to not being able to recognize the USB device again.!
ugh!

Heimdall uses completely different drivers

Yes it installed the heimdall drivers successfully when I tried to run the on-click. Then it timed out. I now appear to be back to an unrecognized device again. Installing Keis, Samnsung drivers etc trying to get it to recognize the phone again. It easily goes into download mode.
Anyone got any ideas how I can get this thing breathing again?
Try rebooting the computer. Use a USB port in the back of the computer. Try a different cable. Open Odin before connecting phone to computer.

Tried all of this - still no love. Every once in a while it will search and install Samsung drivers but then it disconnects almost instantly.
I also fumbled through getting a Ubuntu up to try it in Linux but the download mode isn't found in linux either.
Running out of options here. Wondering if I've pooched this phone.

Its not broken permanently, I promise.
Well slap my a$$ and call me Judy!
After 1 million attempts (cords, ports. pcs, windows, linux) I finally managed to get back into my phone. I literally must have had this phone in and out of download mode several hundred times in the last 24 hours. One of my attempts finally worked in Ubuntu! Not sure why really - but I am okay with that at this point.
Thanks for all you help!

<smack> good job Judy.

[Q] Root Problems

I am coming from the Galaxy S Vibrant and so far I am not impressed by the whole rooting process for the Skyrocket. I have tried on 3 different windows computers and every time it says it is unable to recognize device. I installed the drivers but I don't believe they were installed correctly. When I click root in super one click, the application stops responding.
I made sure to select debugging and when I connect the phone to the computer nothing prompts me on the phone. Is there something I am missing in order to get the Skyrocket recognized by Windows?

You need to be patient. the program stopped responding for nearly 5 minutes for me before it started going again and my PC is lightning fast.
Try installing Samsung kies. Should give you all the drivers you need.
If your computer doesn't recognize the phone at all then you most likely dont have the drivers installed correctly or a USB hub driver issue in which case no USB devices would work. Like I said, try installing kies. Once you can get the PC to recognize the phone as a storage device, you should be good to run the root program.

I tried Kies already and it didn't help. I can connect my Vibrant with no problem to my computer as well.

Can you connect other USB devices to your computer? USB drives etc

i had somewhat the same problem , I rooted my old vibrant first incase i screwed something up , no big loss , it went smooth as butter , then I hooked the SR up and it took forever , 3 try I unplugged alot of my other usb devices , restarted the pc and tried , it hung for a few minutes and I left it alone , it eventually worked the last time. I also have a pretty solid pc , running win7 64bit , unplugging alot of my usb devices seemed to be the thing that really helped.
hope that helps ya

rooting this device is easier then posting that on the forum =)
1) If you are still 2.3.5 (and didn't do the OTA upgrade) -> use doomlord's script (DooMLoRD_v3_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su) or newer if there is one:
-if you did do the OTA upgrade - search the forum for another way to root.
2) install KIES (if its installed, continue to 3)
3) extract the DooMLoRD_v3_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su.zip to anywhere (maybe c:\doom )
4) open a command prompt (run as administrator if your not running windows XP)
5) goto c:\doom\files\
6) type "adb devices"
- if it finds your device - just run the script , it will root your phone
- if it does NOT find your device, troubleshot kies (uninstall it, reboot, reinstall, disable anti virus/firewall, etc etc) because if it can't find the device then the problem is someplace on your computer.
good luck!

[Q] Droid charge usb issues Please help!

Hi everyone, first, this is my first post, new to the forums, at least as a registered user. I have a problem with my phone. I know most of you are wondering why I have not just read the other posts on the forums, but I have. I have attempted every solution to the problem posted previously.
Background: Phone: Samsung charge.
I was being impatient and did not want to wait for the gingerbread update form Verizon. I flashed the leaked gingerbread 2.3.4 onto my phone using odin. Everything went great. I was able to use my phone with no problems except shortened battery life, but nothing major. About a month ago the battery life was impossible to maintain and there were some software bugs, like clicks during calls, startup taking forever, around 2 minutes on average!, and random restarts that never happened before. I decided to look up some fixes and found that verizon and samsung had released GB 2.3.6 for the charge. I got excited and decided I wanted to get that, but I could not via OTA. I read some forum posts and they mentioned attempting a factory reset on the phone then trying OTA update. I went ahead with factory reset and everything went fine. My startup time is around 25 seconds now and no random clicks or gliches, but still not on 2.3.6, which was the whole point. I then decided to just flash the stock 2.3.6 rom to the phone.
Problem: When I plug my phone in to multiple computers it will charge but not connect to the computer. This means on my Mac it does not show as an external drive, which it has in the past. On my windows 7 machine it says that drivers were installed but could not be used (I can get the exact quote if needed.) I attempted to go into device manager and solve problem that way but it shows my phone as "unknown device". I have tried to enter download mode when hooked up to windows computers and no connection is found.
Possible solutions attempted and their outcomes:
1. As stated, I attempted the method shown in a thread on droid forums for installing the samsung drivers. I have attempted multiple times to install the drivers on my windows machine and the device remains "unknown".
2. I have attempted multiple cables on multiple computers, both mac and windows 7. No change.
3. I have installed adb and attempted to locate devices using adb devices command on mac. No devices found.
4. I have attempted all methods with both usb debugging checked and unchecked.
5. I have tried every possible usb port I have.
Ideas/questions I have had that I have no idea are possible or how to fix!
Would a factory reset take away the ability to connect to a computer from my phone. So, is there a piece of software in the build I have that controls the connection between the computer and the phone, an identifier of sorts, which is now missing, now that I have reset the leaked ROM.
Is there a way to flash a new ROM without connecting to a computer, via the sd card, and what is that? I have read some things in other posts but am too much of a n00b to understand most of them when using sdcards.
ANY help will be greatly appreciated. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!! I have been at this for at least 6 hours, sifting through forums, searching google, attempting fixes that others have stated worked for them, only to fail every time. Thank you all.
i've had a few issues with this on my Droid Pro. with windows connection a connection assistant came up with some options that I was able to get it to work as a drive.
Getting it to work with adb is another issue alone. The phone needs to be in "debug" mode. I would search for a tutorial on this because you need to edit files on the computer.
for example on my windows I needed to edit one set of files, while on my linux I had to edit another set of things.
I leave my phone in debug mode because i use it for my android app dev on both computers. try that and see if it shows up on your mac.

[Q] Am I beyond unlock now?

I have tried to root my infuse several times now. The forums here were a help but I'm at a dead end. Is there a way to download the windows drivers and install them 'by hand' rather than go through Kies? I have tried that multiple times on 2 different computers and I have had no luck getting my phone recognized. (At this point I would be insanely happy if I could just get files to my phone via USB).
I feel like I have tried everything that has been posted about troubleshooting and rooting to no avail... is there any more? A different tack I could take?
Thanks
Samsung Infuse Stock 2.2.1
Tried SuperOneclick - hangs
ADB - hangs
Windows - doesn't recognize
Kies - phone not supported
Mini Kies - installs drivers but windows still craps out
Tried every USB port on 2 computers
Tried Odin - The very first time I used it Odin saw my phone and every time after that I get nothing.
I found a different USB cable and tried it and it worked! This is amazing. Thanks guys!!!
Have you tried a different USB cable?

If a different USB cable doesn't work, you can try Heimdall. I think it comes with drivers. Or you can download the drivers from Samung.
If the USB cable thing doesn't work you could always install Linux ( I recommend Ubuntu if you've never used Linux before) on a small partition, then the drivers would not be necessary. Install JRE and flash one of the rooted, custom kernel, rom packages via heimdall.

Oneclick Unbrick Driver problem Fix

Hello
I used oneclick unbrick a few times ( Thank's to Adam Outler & Benjamin Dobell) as my phone soft bricked as i was flashing it.
there's a known issue (a clash between) the oneclick zadig drivers and the samsung phone drivers.
basically when you use onclick unbrick odin can't find the phone, you have to restart the pc and or reinstall the samsung phone drivers because odin dosen't find the phone after unbricking.
Ive found a work around for that.
(I'm Running Windows 7)
Once you have used oneclick unbrick, go to your control panel, then device manager.
Once in device manager scroll down to Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
Look for NEC PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller (B1)
Uninstall it, then click actions at the top of the device manager box.
Now click scan for hardware changes, this should reinstall all the drivers back in again, and the phone should be found in Odin without restarting or reinstalling any drivers.
This method uninstalled a few other things (i tether my phone) but all the drivers reinstalled again and there was no other issues once i had clicked scan for hardware changes.
Saved me a lot of trouble shutting down and restarting and reinstalling drivers etc
Have a try and tell me if it works for you too
Mod Note: If this is posted in the wrong section please move it
Thank's
