Hello,
I'd like to root my Galaxy s7 G930F, and have two questions:
1. What is the simplest way to root? CF-auto-root or installing a ROM that has root included?
2. If I root using cf-auto-root will I still get samsung firmware updates automatically when they are released? If I install a custom rom i guess not, so that's why I'm asking.

You need to root before you can install a different rom. Also see if it the rom works on your phone.

Use this app to flash recovery img file, in case you have difficulties installing cwm or philz: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.mkrtchyan.recoverytools

following this guilde you need custom recovery to root so you can't use root app's without root
Can any one say whether the Canadian 4.4.2 has multi user enabled, if not has any one tried to apply the multi user hack.
Newbie question. If I wanted to temporarily disable the root so that apps which may have an issue with rooted device can continue to work how would this be done. I saw in one forum where someone said they were only able to do this with the 4.2.2 ROM.

I just got prompted when starting KIES for the KitKat update. I have the US version of the Tab 3 10.1 (5210). I assume I can use your root steps to root the US KitKat firmware?
Here's what KIES says:
Current firmware version : PDA:NB2 / CSC:NB2 (XAR)
Latest firmware version : PDA:NH2 / CSC:NH2 (XAR)
Thanks

Use the xposed framework and there is a plugin called rootcloak.
Fix?
I recently did the Samsung update to Android 4.4.2. I've tried multiple times to root my device, but each time, the SuperSu has not functioned properly. The first time it would not update correctly, so I tried a different .zip and the SuperSu in that one would freeze every time I would try to use it. Will this fix the problems I am having?

Yeap! as LegendSmoker is referring, it seems chainfire SuperSU-v2.02 is the only one to survive 4.4.2 anti-root attacks!

The kernel you are referring to does not install Superuser.apk to /system/app nor some superuser files to /system/xbin. So the answer is no...unless the install package installs those files in addition to the kernel, which I did not see listed.
okay, thanks for ur answer!
but can i do this, to get root access?

It looks like it has been rooted, so it should work.
You will need a custom recovery to install it: TWRP or CWM
The [OP] of the thread provides a link to TWRP.
Make sure you do a complete backup of your current ROM using TWRP BEFORE you install the rooted ROM.
I made the error of upgrading to 5.1.1 (S6 on EE) before rooting and now I understand Ping Pong won't work?
So can someone suggest the easiest way to root? I'd rather not trip knox but I will if I need to.
I saw a post about rooting without tripping knox but it lost the fingerprint scanner and I'd rather not lose any functionality.
Thanks!
I have the same question. I don't need samsung pay, but I don't want to broke the fingerprint sensor.

Flashing TWRP through Odin is really easy:
Run Odin
put your phone in d/l mode and connect it
choose the TWRP file to flash
press start
After that, you have got a custom recovery menu from where you can install a clean ROM or a custom kernel.
Literallly, the whole procedure takes just 2 clicks in Odin and 1 Minute.
Make sure you use the latest version of both Odin and TWRP and you're fine; i reinstalled some Samsung apps and features like fingerprint scanner; working flawless.

Does it "trip" KNOX?
Edit: Yep, it does for those wondering.
The way I get root is to flash via Odin, Unikernel then you will have root on your stock rom. If you then want a custom recovery I use Flashify from the playstore to flash twrp recovery, it's so easy and so quick and works on firmware 5.0.2 and the latest 5.1.1
Thanks for the advice all, will this wipe all my data during the process?

No but it will trip knox.
Thanks to all, the ODIN method worked a treat, very easy and quick and didn't lose any of my data.
Coming back to this, I just noticed that this method of root has changed SELinux to permissive. Why is that? I'm not too up on these things but doesn't that mean it is less protected from malware?
I recently bought a galaxy S6 and I feel ready to flash TWRP and start trying out ROMS .However i am seeing numerous threads of people getting bootloops after flashing TWRP on MM.So im asking which is the best TWRP that will enable me to root my device and flash roms. Thanks
yes i want to know to. i have g920f i tryed some tips and i got stuck on twrp always screen freeze on twrp when i try to restart or restart to twrp screen freeze.
I suggest you to use this guide for flashing MM on S6, it's really good! After you're done, use this file to root your phone through Odin.
i am already on MM 6.0.1

I want to install TWRP then flash Chainfire Super SU. But a lot of people are experiencing bootloops after flashing TWRP so I want a method that won't cause bootloops. I have slow Internet and downloading official ROM to solve a soft brick will be quite a hassle
Hi,
I try to figured out for any infomration but without success. Is there some news for having root &TWRP for MM 6.0.1 without loosing warranty and tripping Knox?
Thanks to everyone.
I have Galaxy S6 (920F) with Android Nougat.
I have managed to install TWRP Recovery on my device and it is allowing me to install .zip files. But my phone is Not ROOTED.
So my question is,
If I flash .zip(s) now that are made for my device, will it be installed successfully?
or my device will stuck on bootloop?
Well, if you are flashing some files into directories that don't require root to access, it will work.
But lets say you want to flash ported system app (like message app). It will not work, since it requires flashing into \system and that directory requires root to be accessed and modified. :good:
