[GROUP] Philippine Galaxy S7 Edge Users (Unlocked / Globe / Smart) - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Guides, News, & Discussion

Philippine users of the Galaxy S7, please post your reviews, comments, problems, accessories, updates, etc. about your S7.

Im glad someone created a group for us users in the Philippines. Im using a unit from Globe. I was happy with everything except the battery life. Im only gwtting as much SOT as my 2 year old Note 3. But after a few tweaks, mostly disabling services, apps, Device Manager, etc. I am optimistic battery usage will improve.
I hope more members can join in.

I'm using an Edge from Globe too and I'm not happy with its battery life after about 3 days.
I factory reset the unit and now getting about a day's worth of battery life with 4 hours SOT. I have Greenify installed (for agressive doze) and disabled a few apps/services via Package Disabler Pro. I'm quite a heavy user and on 4G/LTE about 10 hours a day.

what plan did you get your s7's brothers?? im checking if i can get this or not maybe go for 6p... are you satisfied??

I got mine from Globe. I am a satisfied customer so far.

Probably caused by bad cellular signal. I could get 5-10 hours of screen-on time as I please.

Hello fellow s7 edge users!
I'm currently using a Custom ROM (Superman 1.8.1) and a custom kernel (Super kernel 1.4). So far everything is fluid and fast.
Living in one of the sites where globe activated their 700mhz towers and I can easily reach my data cap.
Anyways I am more active in the local fb community but will check this thread from time to time.

Anyone using nano liquid screen protector for s7 edge?

hello guys,
im a filipino using s7 edge (dual sim + sd card mod) since april and staying overseas.

Hi guys. I bought my edge at the samsung store last june 24 but yesterday I had issues with my screen. It has these gray lines across the screen which get bigger or smaller as you adjust the brightness. I guess I got a defective unit. I'll go there today to have my phone looked at.

i'm using nanofixit liquid screen protector... although i really don't trust it, i don't have anything to lose either... the spigen kiosk recommended it since they don't have a screen protector that would fit the case i purchased from them... odd for spigen to have a screen protector for s7 edge that won't fit their with cases...

i just got my s7 edge 3 weeks ago (after waiting for 3 months from globe business to replenish their stock)... looking to move to a custom rom but i need a working shealth... in my experience with my note 3, there were some roms that break shealth functionality... does it work properly on superman rom?
thanks!

I've got mine a week ago from Smart. So far so good, loving it. My SOT is around 5 ~ 6 hours with my Google account synced and location in high accuracy. Data connection is pretty good also as watching online Stream is a breeze.

Hello!
I'm a new member too, are you talking about the thing like Zagg Screen protector? I'm using that now, i'm trying to see if this sort of protector is better than the tempered glass i use on my note 4. (My note 4 has an otterbox screen protector and body combo, it's like a tank but it's meant for someone as clumsy as i am).
It's barely been 2 days since i bought the protector for the S7 Edge though.

Hi!
I bought mine last June 12 (It was at Abu Dhabi though), my mom bought there too and her unit is slightly defective too, her camera has focusing issues. Does your phone have focusing issues too, or was also bought abroad?

I got mine unlocked, it's a 935-FD , which i think is the same local version anyway. I haven't used it for mobile data because i'm on prepaid, i'm using Sun as a carrier but so far this phone outlasts my note 4 by a good margin with an SOT around 6-7 hours (I don't use mobile data ) vs the barely 4 hours SOT i can pull off the Note 4 , and i just replaced the latter's battery a month ago.

I've left Superman ROMs for now since I want to try other ROMs. I'm now on TekHD's ROM and I'm loving it so far. Its feature-packed and has OTA updates meaning you won't redownload such huge files when flashing. You gotta reflash any custom kernel after OTA updating though or else you're gonna experience bootloop (I'm serious with this, I almost got stuck with a bootlooping phone). Being in the Philippines where downloading huge files is such a pain in the ass on our slow and expensive internet.
My S Health was working on Superman roms but didn't work on 1.8.1, I guess because I've dirty flashed it? I got tried of Full wipe->Going through the welcome setup->Titanium back-up->restore synced SMS and setting from Samsung.

Need Help on my S7 Edge DUOS
I got my S7 EDGE Duos from Smart Philippines. It is of course locked only to Smart Network but I can use Globe Network on the other sim slot. Now I had to flash my phone using ODIN because it was boot looping. I couldn't find SM-G935FD Smart firware in Sammobile and I have read here in forums that I can Flash any SM-G935F firmware safely. So I flashed it and it worked. Now my problem is, both simlot is now locked to Smart Network. If I insert the Globe Network simcard, it will ask for a network unlock code.
Kindly help me or enlighten me please..
Thanks

I'm pretty sure bootloader is locked up pretty tight, so rooting it will be like rooting AT&T note 4 no root as of yet.
I too will be eagerly waiting for root. I can live without changing ROMs/kernels but until I got the Edge I never really knew how much I needed root for everyday things.
Yes, Please I am also looking for a root to the AT&T Note Edge N915A.
Also I hear the new OS lollipop is coming to the Note 4 & edge around the first of 2015.
I'm looking for a root for the AT&T note edge as well.
+1 hell I'll throw down some money to the person/persons that get us root.

It may be worth pledging for root (just note that it has to work for ATT note edge in your comment) in this thread. I assume if it worked for the note 4 it will work for us
It says Verizon in the title but the thread is for both ATT and Verizon variants.
(If there is an ATT specific thread for bounty please link it)

I'm willing to put in $100 towards getting this rooted.
.I bought mine as an AT&T and not even knew it it said T Mobile in the ad it takes my tmobile Sims but its the AT&T version so its locked up I guess but hasn't it been unlocked to put T Mobile on it that's what I don't understand. anyways I still have my note 3 and its rude if I love it I use everyday I spent $800 on the edge and I want it rooted bad I'll put $100 towards getting it rooted if we can figure out a way
Does anybody know how to get a pledge going let's get up let's going for the AT&T note edge please I need root I can't grow without roots
I'm really suprised that no one has made a root for this version of the note edge.
They already have root for the note 4 and edge for AT&T and Verizon. It's supposed to be released soon. Go look in the note 4 thread

SM-N915A Android is Upgrading
Sorry to change the subject, im all for root as well. Just need some advice. At&t variant seems to be the only one without any support for the firmware, Im going through hell trying to get mine out of a boot loop! It says android is upgrading, optimizing apps, and only goes to 102 sometimes. it says 267 apps and shuts off at 30, 40 50 and 102 is the closest it got. It keeps re booting and staying in the same cycle. Ive searched high and low through every site and forum for a fix. The down side is I am not a At&t account holder so they wont help with any support. I bought it off of craigslist to use it with straight talk and it worked great for about a month and then this update for lollipop and now stuck!!! Can anyone advise?
where is an official rom
where is an officil rom of sm-n915a and how can i unlock the wifi to see others wifi but at t?

Have a copy of the firmware for a "friend who is having problems with lollipop and wants to downgrade" or some other bs excuse. If someone could get a hold of it, it would help everyone!

Ability to root new S6?

Howdy, all.
I'm looking at purchasing an S6 and am wondering the likelihood of the Galaxy S6s at the Verizon store already having an OTA update installed that would prevent rooting? I don't know if all the S6s that Verizon gets are all on the same OS version from the factory or if the ROM that gets installed on the phone during manufacturing is updated as the carrier releases new OTAs?
Is the version of the ROM shown on a label on the box?
Thanks much.
If you get it from in the store the chances are pretty high since the update has been out for a little while now.
Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
I bought mine about a week ago and it was still rootable because I am rooted now. Just make sure you don't take the OTA that it wants you to when you get it. Go straight home and root
Yes, the firmware version is written on the box. I suggest taking a look at the box the rep brings out before you actually buy it. Just make sure you or the rep doesn't take any OTA's.
Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
I got mine 2 weeks ago and it was rootable. I specifically told the guy to NOT accept ANY updates at all, just activate the phone and hand it to me. He said "You're going to root it aren't you? Good for you. Plus it's safe you can return it to stock easy." My reply "I cannot confirm or deny any future plans."
I bought mine today. Did not take the OTA update and am currently rooted.
I would imagine that there are quite a lot of devices on the old version.
Do the new shipments contain the isocell or sony sensor?

BTW how do you see if its Sony or isocell, and is their a preference ?
edit: Never mind seen over at another thread that I have an LS sony. Yesterday must of been my lucky day with the S6.

I've had both and they both take great pictures. Some like Sony better and some isocell. From a comparison I saw somewhere on the web I liked the isocell better. The colors popped out a bit to me but honestly you can't go wrong with either.
Watch out though. I got my phone a week ago at the VZ store. Right after the rep activated it, the OTA began installing without any prompting. I powered the phone off immediately to prevent it. I was lucky. I played it super safe and put it into airplane mode until I got home and was ready to root.

Potential Galaxy Note 5 Owner?!

I have a Sony Xperia Z1s and I'm coming up to my 2 year mark and looking to make an upgrade to a new device. I was hoping T-Mobile would carry the Sony Xperia Z5 but it seems they have no plans to carry it or being extremely quiet about it. I'm interested in the Galaxy Note 5 but I'm just concerned about a few things before making my purchase and hoping some Note 5 owners could help.
1. Does the Galaxy Note 5 have poor RAM management issues especially when multitasking after 5 or 6 apps are opened some will close in the background and have to be restarted over?
2. Can the T-Mobile Note 5 Variant be rooted (unlocked bootloader) without any issues?
3. How would you rate the battery life?
4. Should I wait for the holidays for some new promotions?
Well from my take
1. Yes TouchWiz has aggressive ram management, so.app reload happens. But if you are comfortable with rooting and playing with script, there is a tweak that was given how to fix the aggressive ram management or make it better I should say.
2 . Yes it can be rooted I believe the bootloader can be unlocked. Of course Knox will be tripped voiding you warranty.
3. I say it's great for me, average about 5-6hrs of screen on time. It varies from person to person.
4. That's a personal choice you will have to make. Holiday seasons do come with some.Great deals but who knows what will be this year's deals.
Sent from my White Note 5 Monster
1. The ram preformance is great. It rarely lags and is very fast. App reloads do happen. I tested out Instagram, Playstore, Messages, Phone, Facebook, and a couple more. I left them running for a bit while I played a game and went back to the exact same spot.
2. Root is very simple. It's pretty much 1 click of a button and then waiting 5 minutes.
3. Battery life depends on how often you use it. Im in school and use my phone a good amount. I usually get out at 2:30 with 60ish% and then at the end of the day Im left with aroung 20-30%. That counts watching youtube videos everyday, on snapchat, instagram, playing a couple games, ect. (I do have a stock deodexed rom though)
4. Depends on your budget. T-Mobile has recently came out with some great promotions lately and who knows if they will with the note 5 anytime soon.

So only when you unlock bootlader tripping knox will void the warranty not from just rooting?
From my understanding yes
Sent from my SM-N920T using Tapatalk
If you follow the guides on here as to get root, you will trip knox. I'm not sure about the bootloader, but if you install a custom recovery it's tripped. Basically in order to flash anything, except Samsung ROMs using Odin, you'll trip it. I wonder if there even is a root-injected stock kernel that could flash in Odin? I don't think there is.
But, the Note5 is a beast stock. I had the Z1s, and the Z2. Besides just being older, I'm really a fan of the Note5. I don't think you'd miss your rooted Z1s at all with a new Note in your hands.
Just get one. Best phone out there.

Ok thats alittle disappointing was looking forward to being able to root it and not void the warranty on a $700 smartphone. Yeah I played with one in the T-Mobile store its definitely a top notch phone I'm definitely going to get it once the Holiday's come around.

I'm dying to get it, I can't wait!!!
So once you trip Knox it is irreversible? I would like to keep my warranty for as long as possible just in case something goes wrong with the phone. If its irreversible then I might have to wait a few months before rooting it just to be safe.
I'm looking at buying this phone for my wife's Christmas present. To my understanding it ships with an unlocked bootloader. ... My main concern is using it on straight talk.

For what it's worth, I've never heard of T-Mobile checking knox for a warranty exchange. I've exchanged with knox tripped myself as well as upgraded through jump with no issues. That's not to say you'll have the same experience though. As for app reloads, I notice it less on the note 5 than I did on my S6 edge.
I always send my phones in a soft bricked state on purpose. Never had an issue.

Am I crazy? S5 vs S7

Hi all! I am on the putrid Viaero network. We use factory unlocked phones on a GSM network. I had an AT&T S5 and it works great. Viaero forced me to purchase a new phone to keep my unlimited Internet, so I went with a S7 (28.00/month for 20 Mos ) and at first it was cool, a lot like my S5, seamless swap. After 2 days though it seemed the battery life is pretty bad, and it has horrible signal. Even my husbands Google P6 blows it away in both categories.
Is there any hope for this thing, or would I be messing up just using the S5 and taking the S7 back?
I'm comfortable rooting and tripping knox- Viareos warranty policy is crap so if I keel it its pretty much mine. Thanks!

If you are happy with the S5 then I see no reason in keeping the S7.
Kinda what I'm thinking. I read the reviews comparing the S5 and S7 from March this year and they were raving about how much more advanced the S7 is and how much better battery life and I'm not seeing it. I guess I will have to make payments on something to keep my plan, so I can get a refurbished S5 for half the price and have a spare.

If only that were the only issue. Last night I couldn't get it to download a small app, switched to the S5 and it had good service and worked fine.
Somehow on our network, if I use a phone they sell me they seem to be able to slow my data, if I use a phone I unlock myself there are no limits.
Unless....if I were to unlock so to say, root and mod the S7, maybe they won't have control of it?
I have never paid more than 200.00 for a phone and I know the price of this thing is probably whats scaring me the most. If a $200 phone doesn't work well, oh well. But a $600 one is another story. And the warranty department with this carrier charges $50 just to look at it and if they deem it not their fault I have to pay the $50 to get my phone back.

I will browse the S7 threads and see if theres a custom ROM that helps this. Guess it won't be the first time I blew 600.00 (in small installments lol) on an experiment. If it works I can probably buy all the S7's Viaero has sold around here and fix them and make my money back- no one has any luck with them!
Thanks for getting back right away.

I think that all ROM's are for the exynos version, could be wrong tho. Why don't you get the nexus 6p since you find it better?
Travis excellent idea! I went back to the store and got the 6p for 180.00 and got to keep my plan.
I scanned the developer section for the s7 and they just got root, I'm thinking it'll be a bit before any roms get up and running. No telling if that would even help.
Thanks for the input!

I hate that you guys fell this way. I think this is maybe the best phone I've ever had. I've been running Android 11 for a couple days and I must say it vastly improved this phone. It fixed a lot of problems I was having and I couldn't be happier. It sucks because we have one of the only phones that can make Oneplus, Samsung and Apple fanboys jealous... IMO....

Nono, it really is amazing phone but my problem is with my updates and allot of others, people can't update at all even with a vpn, and the customer service agent helpful at all, if it wasn't for people posting new updates I'd be stuck on may security

Oh okay, I thought we were losing a member. I don't know why the updates are so iffy. Some regions are like clockwork and some regions aren't getting anything. Yes, the customer service is garbage.

If the updates wore as consistent as other regions it would be my perfect phone! Without a doubt.
But I'm going to wait to December when we get the android 11 update, and hope I get it

Sucks you guys have to wait so long to get it. It's truly awesome...
Love the phone, I really do but for updates this phone sucks big time. Came from a pixel and samsung phone.. their updates are so much faster. Even for a samsung phone.
I hope the update for android 11 is a good one because I'm thinking to switch back to a pixel phone.
Let me get this straight? You want to sell your phone because you haven't had an update in the last couple of months ? Clearly you've never been a Samsung user I'm loving the phone, coming from a Samsung galaxy note 9. I now have a Snapdragon , decent base storage , and that dual battery / 30 minute fast charge is perfect for heavy usage, paired with decent battery life, +5 hour SOT over 24 hours consistently with all the bells and whistles switched on.

I got an update every month with my S10 plus , so yeah I so know, before the S10 updates wore crap, region settings gone no updates themes don't work fonts don't work breeno services don't work heytap cloud doesn't work, I spent 1100 pounds on this phone I expect top notch for paying that amount, because your not having these problems it's not effecting you so you can't really comment on this..... Have you looked on the updates thread about all the other problems?...

you guys living in EU should read this to understand :
"As a side note, due to limitations of the GDPR, European users will not have access to the beta version of the software. Even if you have an eligible device, you’ll need to wait until the stable rollout of Color OS 11 before you’ll be able to install it. Users outside of Europe will be able to try the open beta if they wish."

But Oppo swear they will release stable version before end of 2020.
Luckily im using Fx2P asia version . I have to say COS11 is really nice update and this device is stunning

Try change VPN to VN ? which version are you in ?
I think oppo should be quicker with the updates inc security patches.
I remember reading this was one area they were looking to improve on.
I can't wait for colorOS11 but December is quite far away, hope the western market it get it much sooner.
