I'm pretty sure bootloader is locked up pretty tight, so rooting it will be like rooting AT&T note 4 no root as of yet.

I too will be eagerly waiting for root. I can live without changing ROMs/kernels but until I got the Edge I never really knew how much I needed root for everyday things.

Yes, Please I am also looking for a root to the AT&T Note Edge N915A.
Also I hear the new OS lollipop is coming to the Note 4 & edge around the first of 2015.

I'm looking for a root for the AT&T note edge as well.

+1 hell I'll throw down some money to the person/persons that get us root.

It may be worth pledging for root (just note that it has to work for ATT note edge in your comment) in this thread. I assume if it worked for the note 4 it will work for us
It says Verizon in the title but the thread is for both ATT and Verizon variants.
(If there is an ATT specific thread for bounty please link it)

I'm willing to put in $100 towards getting this rooted.
.I bought mine as an AT&T and not even knew it it said T Mobile in the ad it takes my tmobile Sims but its the AT&T version so its locked up I guess but hasn't it been unlocked to put T Mobile on it that's what I don't understand. anyways I still have my note 3 and its rude if I love it I use everyday I spent $800 on the edge and I want it rooted bad I'll put $100 towards getting it rooted if we can figure out a way

Does anybody know how to get a pledge going let's get up let's going for the AT&T note edge please I need root I can't grow without roots

I'm really suprised that no one has made a root for this version of the note edge.

They already have root for the note 4 and edge for AT&T and Verizon. It's supposed to be released soon. Go look in the note 4 thread

SM-N915A Android is Upgrading
Sorry to change the subject, im all for root as well. Just need some advice. At&t variant seems to be the only one without any support for the firmware, Im going through hell trying to get mine out of a boot loop! It says android is upgrading, optimizing apps, and only goes to 102 sometimes. it says 267 apps and shuts off at 30, 40 50 and 102 is the closest it got. It keeps re booting and staying in the same cycle. Ive searched high and low through every site and forum for a fix. The down side is I am not a At&t account holder so they wont help with any support. I bought it off of craigslist to use it with straight talk and it worked great for about a month and then this update for lollipop and now stuck!!! Can anyone advise?

where is an official rom
where is an officil rom of sm-n915a and how can i unlock the wifi to see others wifi but at t?

I was pointed in the direction of a Samsung rep at Best Buy but haven't had time to try it yet. It was suggested to go and ask if I could
Have a copy of the firmware for a "friend who is having problems with lollipop and wants to downgrade" or some other bs excuse. If someone could get a hold of it, it would help everyone!

Just be thankful, ATT and VZW are all in the same boat. One thing that can be troublesome for us on ATT though is we don't have any stock firmware images I'm aware of.

No S5 Root yet -- Frustration

Heyy ya'll, I am so frustrated!! I have bought the Verizon S5 with hopes to get it unlocked soon, but nothing is there!! This is so frustrating -- I signed up with verizon and pay $150/month for 6 gigz with all else unlimited, but the root is one thing that I was looking for. It is frustrating because I probably should've gotten myself a Sprint/Tmobile that was unrooted before even release and it is cheaper!! Ugh!!! By the time unlock happens, a new S series will come out!
Thanks for listening to me! I feel better

You bought a phone without root to begin with. I understand your frustrated but if you wanted a phone with root you should of done homework beforehand. if you wanted the S5 specifically with root, then you probably should switch carriers.
I'm not trying to be rude, its just this post really has no meaning. Your frustrations are just like many, but there is no reason to just start a post on it. Be like a lot of people and be patient. if its going to be rooted one day it will, if you really do not want to wait go an by a phone that is already rooted and not one hoping to eventually be rooted/unlocked because the fact it is just may not happen.
Should of got a developer edition phone...

Don't take the advice of buying an M8...know 3 people that have it and my S5 still unrooted is better than theirs with ANY rom...just wait we will get there. The camera alone and battery life alone us worth it.

Yet there are others who have switched and love the M8. Each person is different and should make a decision they feel right with. Many folk are happy with the S5, even without root. For others the lack of root is a deal breaker.
I personally love my M8 as much as I did my S3. I didn't go for the S5 because of Knox and the locked bootloader. That's me though and I would not deign to denigrate anyone simply because their priorities are different than my own.

Looking to switch to this phone

I hope this is the right place for this post and if not I apologize in advance. I currently have a Verizon Galaxy S4 which is my first smart phone so going in, I didn't know much about rooting and flashing and other modifications so as I began tinkering, I was very unhappy to find my bootloader had been locked. I've had this phone a while and being unable to flash AOSP roms and the like is really starting to get annoying so I have been browsing Swappa and considering a new phone. I very much do like the M8 and it seems to be my best option for a decent upgrade without breaking the bank. I was wondering if all versions of the Verizon M8 are completely unlock-able or if there are things I should look for when buying this phone. Are there any software updates that have locked the bootloader down to the point that there is no unlock solution? Is there anything specific I should avoid when looking to purchase this phone? On a similar note, should putting my sim from my S4 into this phone just work or will I need to go through Verizon and get the device approved? Thank you in advance for any replies and I apologize again if this is the wrong place to post this.
The Sunshine unlock is available for $25 for all devices running Android 4.4.3 or below. Sunshine hasn't been updated to support Android 4.4.4 yet. If you want to S-OFF, unlock your bootloader, and root the device you will need a phone running either Android 4.4.2 or Android 4.4.3. The Galaxy S4 uses a micro SIM and the M8 uses a nano SIM. You can try cutting your current SIM down, but the best option is to get a new SIM.
That's honestly what I was wondering as well, and it's something good to know once I make the switch from a Note 2 to the m8.
I switched from a Galaxy S5 and my mistake was not doing enough research I ended up getting a M8 on 4.4.4 and now I'm stock again with a locked bootloader for now, you're definitely gonna want to make sure that you get a phone on 4.4.3 or lower

I dont know about OP, but I know for me I am okay with not having an unlocked bootloader. The droid turbo has way too many problems, the nexus 6 has its share of problems and hasn't been announced for Verizon yet, and Touchwhiz is way too laggy and buggy for me to even consider it after having the Note 2 for two years.
Coming from flashing everything posted on XDA to my Galaxy S3 I was pretty happy with Sense 6. It's a bit of its own spin but is honestly pretty bearable. Battery life is perfect (with heavy use near a days use easy), fast and takes wonderful pictures. I miss the ability to swap out batteries but it's really not too much of an issue with this phone. Front facing speakers are wonderful and seem pretty obvious with BoomSound suprisingly not a gimmick
My only real complaint is the stock emojis HTC throws at you, but that's pretty minimal.

The issue is AT&T says we will buy it if you lock it to us so we can keep our customers and make it more of a chore to leave our company. Samsung says ok because we want the sales and that's why it's done... Samsung can care less once they sell you the phone what you do with it and they already built ways to know what you did to the phone for warranty returns. (So they can deny the claims that are caused by you not listening.)
If you want to get mad at anyone get mad at AT&T just like verizon they play every trick in the book.
That's why if you buy a phone full price you always go international version

I have heard of that happening from people that buy online but I don't know much about them I believe someone in one of the threads (that was an at&t or samsung source) said they were at&t branded internationals (meaning they were to be sold through at&t for corporate or maybe coverage outside the US?, though I don't know much more because I only stay up to date on the US versions
If you just bought it you might want to check your buying source (example amazon will give you a new phone if you buy the international that's meant to be used with several carriers), if you have owned it for awhile then you're in the same boat as the rest of us.
I don't think the bootloader will ever be unlocked unless..
A law requires them too...
Someone finally finds a exploit (which because less likely as more people switch to newer phones)
They have a security leak like Sony where the key is discovered.

Or at the very least stop the store worker from updating it when you first activate it. When I bought mine she took it out of the box, turned it on and immediately accepted the update notification and installed it after it downloaded when she put the screen protector on..
@Apoplectic1
You should have made her give you different one. I do not and will not allow a store clerk to setup or mess with a phone I'm buying. :good:

I would have had I known that AT&T locked their bootloaders. This is the first phone that I have owned that had one, and until I tried to mess around with it I had no idea that one could lock a bootloader.
Sadly, I won't be able to get the Lollipop update unless I want my phone locked down forever because I am one of the few people that is still on the MDL firmware which can use the LOKI bootloader bypass to boot custom ROMs.

I think all root discussion is going on in the Note 4 Developers ONLY section...it is probably fair to assume any root method found for the Note 4 and S5 would work for the S6. But still no major progress. As in the past a root method will probably come out of nowhere from a developer that rarely posts.

Then perhaps trying a less secure Verizon phone if you do not have T-Mo coverage, like HTC. I think the M9 still cannot be rooted or S-OFF but the M8 can.

This is correct. Verizon s6 will be much like the Note 4, it will never see root. Sad, but true.
And still no word on a developer edition :/
We may be hoping for another futex/towelroot type of kernel level exploit that can leverage root for multiple devices. They don't come along every day but they do come along on occasion. I'd be surprised if there's a targeted root exploit for Samsung devices but I'd be thrilled to be wrong on that.
As for the bootloader...I'll be planning on never. Somebody (or a team of somebody's) might get it, but I won't blame them when they sell it for far more coin than they'll make from some partially paid bounties.
The Note 4 and S6 have different SoCs so its not the same at all. Besides these differences, alas there will be no bootloader unlock.
my 2 cents
On a general basis, i think the galaxy s devices are a little more popular than the note series, and the s6 is proving to be more popular than the s5. So hopefully with a larger following will come increased chances of root....hopefully
I will say this though, the S6 has been the first device I've owned that i didn't want to root right out of the box. Root at this point would just be nice to have for a little more control over the device.
Verizon root
I would pay 500 bucks to a dev that could root this phone, to bad I dont know any personally.:crying:

Yes, the Verizon Note 5 has band 2 enabled by default. If you would like to check which bands your phone is connecting to, I highly recommend the app "LTE Discovery" from the play store. The creators have done a great job of making it work well.

Nope, you're SOL. Besides, you're in the wrong thread. Bad way to increase your comment count.

My bad man, I'll do more reading and get more familiar with the rules. Sorry about this. I'm very noobish.

No problem! If you have any questions there are lots of people who would love to help. Unfortunately this forum has been dead-ish for the past month or so. What with one guy refusing to release the root exploit he "found" and others just trying to do a little customization that's currently beyond the control of the device, there's not much going on here. If you would like to get into rooting and romming I would suggest looking at phones that aren't locked to a carrier (like the unlocked HTC 10 although I didn't like it much or a Moto). Can't beat the Note 5 though!

That's what I had before the Note 5. It was decent to start out but was beyond painful to use in the end. The 32-bit snapdragon and 3GB ram really limit how long you can keep it on before it starts to get really sluggish. I will say though I miss the feel of my N6. It was just a nice shape and the stereo front-facing speakers were fantastic. Dangit now you've got me wanting one again as a backup phone >_<

Lol if I buy one it will make my 4th N6. I would love to have something other than a nexus 6. It limits me on what I can get because I'm on Verizon and that sucks. I could get the International s8+ and use it on AT&T I guess but I really don't wanna have to cancel my service with Verizon. If I can't root and BL unlock then I don't want it. It also makes it kinda hard for me to switch carriers because I have my wife and son on my plan. Hopfully I can figure something out within the next couple weeks..

Yeah if you're looking for something that you can unlock and root, we're talking s7 and newer. I wouldn't recommend the s7 just because the snapdragon 820/821 performance really isn't up to par with the Exynos in the Note 5. That leaves the S8/Note8. I think you'd have to look for one that came from Samsung or from a carrier that doesn't bootloader-lock their phones. I know Verizon does and I think AT&T does but I'm not sure. Exynos devices are going to be hit or miss, but imo are far superior (speed- and heat-wise).

It should be illegal for carriers to lock down a phone! I have another issue as most people. My budget is tight, about 200 bucks is my limit. Right now I'm using the Xiaomi Mi Mix 128gb and 4 gigs of ram. I had a lot of people tell me that the mix wouldn't work on Verizon in the US. I haven't had any issues using the mix. I get 4g everywhere I go. I like my mix but development isn't all that great, let's just say it could be a whole lot better. I have only had this device for about 6 months I like it but I want another phone, lol. I guess I could sale my MI mix and put that money with what I already have and buy a international note 8 or s8+ but then I'd have to switch carriers and I really don't wanna have to do that if I don't have to.

I realize this, man. I was having a dialog with someone. If you would scroll up a few pages and read you would see that I was already advised I was in the wrong thread. After being told by @blockofDynamite that this wasn't a good way to increase my word count, I agreed. We then had a few discussions and I went on my way.....
