I'm making a different thread since I wanted more people to see this.
My problem is not something that has an impact in the phone usage but just curious and maybe others have it and didn't notice it since now.
I have AL10 device with L29 firmware.
I recently flashed the B180 rom. I noticed from phone info others put on threads that the B180 kernel is dated March 29th, while mine is March 1st (I would guess that this is B162 kernel???).
I know for a fact that @tsiglas (who owns L29 device though) has 180 firm with the newer kernel.
I searched the update.app from 180 version with the extractor but didn't find a file referring to kernel.
Could it be that because I flashed the rom from TWRP and not stock recovery, I am having this minor but curious problem?
Also I am not sure if someone can extract their kernel from the device and make it flashable...
Thank you all for your help.
curious, actually... im on AL10 model with L29 B162 firmware and my kernel is dated jan 26th, huh....

So yours isn't either from the 162 version probably. What's up with that? Weird...
Same with me, also running a AL10 with L29 firmware, and the kernel has not changed either.
how about flashing the latest al10 firmware b172 and checking if kernel and baseband version has been updated? then, if thats the case, crossflash to latest l29 version b180 and check again.

Are you sure you're not look at the security patch date?
I own an Al10 and I can confirm it's kernel version which is dated March 29 (security patch level March 01) I went from B172 to B180 and it's definitely not flashing through TWRP that makes your kernel not showing March 29. I always flash through TWRP.
If phone is stable,y worry about version numbers lol

Kernel changes usually are minimal after the initial release. Hence it's doesn't do any remarkable effects on day to day use.
Software changes affect us the most. Every oem has their.own optimization which keep getting better with every next version released
Rest is history.
Xda flasholics need no reason to flash

Well said I'll probably flash it so that people know what is going on
Sorry for the second post in a row but I figured out why the kernel is not the same at all devices:
The kernel is dependent on the insecureboot (obviously only on AL10 devices) I had 168 version until today when I flashed the 172 ver which @ajsmsg78 gave the other day and the kernel now is March 26th from March 4th which was until yesterday!!! The only "problem" now is that when I boot the device it says that supersu needs to be updated. I do update it through TWRP but then it displays it again Not very important.
im experiencing the same thing here: updated kernel successfully but supersu seems to have some issue with that...
i also noticed that the baseband version was unfortunately not updated. im guessing that updating to the latest AL10 rom would be best before crossflashing to an L29 rom... also, ill need to find out if theres any difference between flashing through twrp or dload method via huawei erecovery.

My baseband is updated but I have the 180 rom now. So probably the baseband is updated with rom updates and the kernel updates with insecure boot updates...
great, that solves the mystery completely then
Try to.keep basebands or.modem of same region to get better networks coverage.
I used to flash differently in.earlier devices for best networks

That is a little difficult since the kernel will always be of AL10 model while our baseband will be of L29 model so it will never be at the same version...

I read that but let me get this straight. You can brick it for restarting the bootloader and not the phone? Or is there a problem changing bootloader versions from MM to N?
Sent from my XT1635-02 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Well, what I did was on the latest (April) nougat version. Tried to factory reset and relock bootloader, which didn't work. So I reloaded the last downloadable factory unsigned rom, and after it all installed it restarted and didn't come back on. Only the led flash.. So now.. Here I am.. Waiting for the damn blankflash from the April release or maybe even the 7.1.1 blankflash to surface. ?
Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
I hard bricked my Moto X2 last year which led me to buy the MZP, and I'm still waiting for the [email protected] blank flash.... Lenovo will never "release" them I'm afraid.
Damn. That sucks. Now I'm afraid of flashing full factory images. I just flashed the April security patch and then upgraded to 7.1.1 through sideload. I guess I'll just make a backup and not try to downgrade using full images.
Sent from my XT1635-02 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Factory resetting is safe as long as you don't flash (downgrade) gpt and bootloader. I learned that the hard way. I always skip those commands which are usually the first two.
Let me tell you my issues and how i solved them.
I was on stock and had updated to April's patch. Then I moved to LOS. After some weeks I wnet back to stock 7.0, which comes with January's patch if I am not mistaken.
After flashing it, I could get to the system normally, but kept getting a "bad key" message on boot and always boot first to booloader, than I had to press "Start" to go to system.
Well, when I tried to sideload 7.1.1 I couldn't. It kept failing on the verification step. What I did (and it worked) was to flash the stock ROM again, but direclty with April's patch. Here:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=961840155545567726
Then, after that I could sideload 7.1.1 and it is everything ok now. The only thing is the "bad key" warning on boot, but it ends up booting direclty to system as it should.
Hope it helps.

It's not the same issue, but thanks anyway.
What if I downgraded from N + January to Marshmallow, then OTA'd to N + February, then the March patch afterwards? I haven't gotten the April patch yet. Will I be okay to install the OTA once it hits my carrier? I don't plan on downgrading, but I'm wondering if I'll be bricked just by installing the April update alone. From what I've read it only happens when downgrading after having the April patch installed, but I just want to be sure.
If your have an updated bootloader and down grade and the receive the ota or flash firmware you will end up hard bricked phone.
The only safe way to downgrade is bye having a unlocked bootloader and flash TWRP flashable zips.
Never mess with bootloader's on Moto devices cause eventually you'll end up bricked

I'm having an issue with my FRD-L14!
I encountered a problem a couple weeks ago when my phone died of low battery. Once I charged it and turned it back on, all of a suddenly all of my apps were unresponsive. And when I say all of the apps, I mean ALL of the apps. I began receiving notifications of the apps that weren't responding and it was asking me to wait or close app. I tried both and had no outcome. I restarted the phone a few times thinking maybe it was a bad boot.. Nothing. Finally, I did a factory reset and everything began working fine.. Until I decided to turn my phone off again (This was the last time my phone had been turned completely off since the factory reset) and the issue arose again. All of my apps are not responsive. Sometimes I cannot even get into settings. I also do not receive any calls/texts during this time either.
I am NOT rooted and I do not have an unlocked bootloader. Completely stock.
Please Help!

Nougat.. Everything I have is stock and updated to the latest firmware.
Okay, in that case i would have made a rollback to marshmallow first, then flashing the full marshmallow firmware (latest avaible on honor site) and finally update again to nougat with OTA.
I think it's the best thing you can do

UPDATE!
After a rollback and OTA update back to Nougat using Proxy Firmware Finder, everything is working fine.
The only thing I've noticed is that my build number is "NRD90M test-keys". I'm not sure if this will affect any future OTA updates or not. It was very difficult to find a full update package for the FRD-L14 version. The model number still reflects FRD-L14 though.
Side note: I think the entire cause of the problem was I did the trick from the link below. It worked and I had been using it for a long time. In the comments of that thread, I've noticed others having the issue after reboot as well... Must be a Huawei thing.

Looked at Firmware Finder but unsure if this will work with an un-rooted Mate?
Also, the reviews of the App seem rather negative and so I'm wary of doing this and then bricking the phone or running into problems.
Are there any other ways to get the Oreo update?
MHA-L29 (C432) here, fully stock. Got tired of waiting for the Oreo OTA so used Firmware Finder a couple of weeks ago. Running 8.0.0.366 now. Check some YT tutorials and do it, you'll be fine.
I prefer to update system software via OTA other than via any 3rd-party ways.

I'm kind of the same way. I use to root, flash, and modify all the time, but as Android has matured over the years,

Likewise. Just remember sometimes for reasons only known to Huawei your IMEI might never end up getting approved and you'll be stuck running an unpatched outdated firmware version. Firmware Finder uses some DNS/proxying trickery to get around that, it doesn't tamper with your ROM/device in any way.
I got all OTAs before Oreo. By the end of March I had enough with waiting and successfully used FF to jump to 8.0.0.366. I would advise you to do the same if nothing has come through yet even if just for those security patches.
I got my phone through the 3 network. There hasn't been an update since November. I'm getting the impression they've just stopped updating this phone sadly.
I used firmware finder for the first time and found it easy and straightforward. Used the proxy method. I'm now on Oreo with march security update. Phone is quicker and battery life is better.
Was a bit skeptical about firmware finder myself but I'm happy with it after giving it go. Would prefer OTA but it's far too slow.

Personally I gave up on waiting and flashed the unofficial frimware from FF. I'm more than happy with stock Oreo, it's smooth and battery life is amazing (you can tweak each application with more settings than in Nougat). Right now I'll stay on stock but I know I have custom ROM if I get tired of it which is also rly nice

I'm more than happy with stock Oreo, it's smooth and battery life is amazing (you can tweak each application with more settings than in Nougat). Right now I'll stay on stock but I know I have custom ROM if I get tired of it which is also rly nice

I thought I would get the official updates so I never got the free unlock bootloader code. This sucks since I paid cash for this at Best Buy
I'm on Oreo B560 for the L14. Can I relock the bootloader using fastboot so that I can use Google pay or will this brick my phone? I don't really use root apps. Other than that Oreo works great.

Yes need to wait, I hope this will be fixed.
Yesterday I was planning to post:
I find it still hard to understand all the updates from Oppo.
I had CPH2025VF_11_A.26 with 5 may security
then i went downgrade CPH2025VF_11_A.23 with june patch
Now i miss some features like filming with wide angle and smart power save...
any idea if i can undo the damage?

But I guess here I have my answer. I'm new to oppo and as far is I can see there are more frequent updates so far than when I had samsung.
Just wondering why though, must be a bug inside the module that checks whether there's a newer version or just poor administration on their side?

I emailed Oppo Service and they told me that I have to send it to a oppo service they will update it for me, I ask them if they just send me the software version so I can do it by myself, I know how to do it.
I will wait for an answer.

No way I'm sending it away because of there faulty rollback files, all we need is for them to update there website with the latest version, I don't no if they'll ever update it because the UK version on there website is still on may
I did rollback and got OTA July but I'm in Australia so maybe different
I didn't install Android 11, so haven't rolled back but I've not had any updates past the May update when I bought the phone on release

I haven't installed Android 11 though, so I haven't installed any rollback files either. I got 2 OTA updates right out of the box on launch day and that's all I've ever had.

Type in on Google, coloros/roms.
And select india or some country that has June update, or you can try using a VPN to Italy and get the July update, but vpns don't do nothing for me
Let me no if the VPN to Italy works for you

Gotcha, thanks. Don't want to mess with downloading OTAs from different regions as I use my phone for work so don't want it to be messed up.
But yeah, VPNs don't work for me either [emoji17]

Yeah I did, I thought the OTA came late, only two days ago, but it came. I am now on A.29 not that that seams to mean anything with oppo but it included the July sec patch

I'm on a.25 as well and nothing for me, some people who didn't install the beta still can't get updates maybe we just have to wait longer than others, I don't no why they just can't roll it out to everyone at the same time as we use the same phones
