All my apps keep getting randomly deleted without my permission! - General Questions and Answers

I went to go play some games on my phone today. One of the games, when I launched it, gave an error that said "App isn't installed". I noticed that the game's home screen icon had been replaced by a grayscale version of itself, possibly something that Nova Launcher was doing. Then I noticed half my other games had the same problem - all greyscale icons, all "not installed". I have also noticed every couple of weeks or so that a "hole" will appear in my home screen icons - there used to be an icon there, but there isn't anymore, and I install so many apps that I can't remember what it was. I also notice that my "Free space" widget will randomly jump up by a GB or two. "Huh, I thought I only had 3GB remaining, now I have 4GB? What the heck?"
Remnants of the apps still remain in the obb/data folders, but the apps themselves are disappearing, and I don't know why. I do not, and have never, installed any apps on an external SD card, I wouldn't even know how. What on earth could cause my system to actually take an installed app, delete almost all its data, without ever asking me or telling me? What kind of system logger could I install to figure out why this is happening?
Example: Ski Safari AT, second row 5 across, has been deleted and had its icon turn grey. When I tap it, it says "App isn't available":

this is really interesting..
let us know if ever you can see what the cause is if ever no one can determine here

Same thing happens to me, Nvidia Shield.
The cause is Android is hopeless.

What???? Really? ??
I can't believe this. Shocking
May be there is a virus or someone is making you fool by messing your mobile up.
Please make a factory reset but before that try to figure out what is going on?
Do you know how to make log file?
Google it.
Upload that log file here and devs will help you.

Force Close Issue After Moving Apps To SD Card

I'm not rooted and in the five months I've had the 4G Slide I've never had any force close issues.
This week I moved all the apps that could be moved from the phone to the SD card, and ever since I've had constant force close issues, either of the apps themselves or the genius button or the whole system. Generally it happens every time the phone is rebooted but can also happen at any random point. It will methodically go through each app alphabetically with the same 'force close' message and asking me if i'd like to report it to HTC.
I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this issue and was also wondering if there would a logical explanation as to why transferring the apps to the SD card might make the phone unstable.
well rule #1 that i've learned is that never move any app that has a widget or any kind of notifications. even if you're not using the app's widget or notifications. it just seems to mess stuff up.
and then this one i found out on my own: moving stuff to the sd card is exactly when problems start haha. it sucks. probably the biggest problem with android as an operating system. i don't know why they even give us the option, because it almost always causes trouble.
BUT if you stick to only moving games (and games that have no kind of notification systems... so don't do words with friends, for example), then you should be good.

[Q] LG MyTouch Q CM9 freezing problems

First of all, thanks to chui101 and all the other people here who put in the effort to get CyanogenMod to run on this phone. However, I'm having a bit of a problem with my phone slowing down severely and becoming unresponsive, usually at the lock screen. The specific issue is that the lock screen will be on screen, but not respond to button presses, or respond very slowly, and then it will do the "old CRT television turning off" effect much much slower than it's supposed to (think close to a minute), go blank for a while, the lock screen comes back up, another very slow screen turn off effect, and the whole process keeps repeating until I get tired of it and pull the battery to reboot the phone. This issue happens to me with both the 2012-11-21 and 2012-11-25 nightlies. To me, the behavior sort of seems like an out of memory issue, maybe some program is leaking memory or something.
Things that cause the freezing issue:
Power button presses too close together
2 cases of a call coming in while the phone is locked and playing music in Apollo
Things I've tried thus far:
Switch launcher from Trebuchet to NovaLauncher
Set Background Process Limit from "Standard Limit" to "At most 3 processes"
Set "Force GPU rendering"
Remove SD card
Out of those, pulling the SD card is the only one that seemed to help. The SD card I had installed was a 16GB SanDisk Class 2 card with ~3.7 GB of music along with less than 10MB of small text files, ring tones in .wav format, pictures, etc.
I put the 2GB card that originally came in the phone back in, this card currently has nothing but the text files and ringtones and a few pictures.
Is anyone else getting hit with this problem? What can I do to help? I don't know much about android ROM development, but I can handle collecting a LogCat from a case where the problem I'm describing is happening and know a reasonable amount about general Linux stuff, just not Android internals.
Thanks!
I used to own an LG Mytouch Q, the only reason I'm even remotely interested in this thread.
However, you should definitely post in that specific thread, as it's basically the only group of Mytouch owners and they should give you lots more help
Sent from my DROID2 using xda premium
I would, but I just joined here so I can't post in the dev forums. I'm hoping someone there will see this post.
Update
With the smaller SD card without all the music files installed, I'm getting less of the freezing problem, although I am not certain whether this is due to the music files not being there, or me not using the phone to play music. I guess the next part of this experiment is to go back to the card with the music files on it but not play any of them. I did grab a LogCat from one of the cases where the phone is 'freezing' and see a bunch of "Application Not Responding" messages, and the CPU usage stats that follow these messages indicate that most of the CPU time is being used by 'iowait,' for instance "100% TOTAL: 0.3% user + 6.9% kernel + 92% iowait". I've read some threads relating to other phones indicating that this could be some process poking around somewhere in storage. I'm thinking that running top from adb shell next time the phone ends up in this state might give some clue as to what's eating the CPU.
Also, I've hit the issue with email message bodies showing up blank that others on this phone, and on CM9 on the non-keyboard LG Mytouch (E739) have experienced.
Hope I'm not spamming with yet another status update, but I tried disabling live wallpapers (going instead to no wallpaper/black screen) last night, and I haven't had any of the freezing problems today. I'll try adding the music files back and see if the problems return then.
* Update 11/29/2012
I put the 16GB card with ~4GB of music back in the phone, used it all day at work for listening to music/checking email/some web browsing without any crashes. (Still with live wallpaper disabled) So, I'm starting to think live wallpapers are causing my problem.

[Q] Rooted TF700T randomly taking screenshots.

(Posted here because I can't post in the developer forum yet. Longtime lurker; first time poster )
I Rooted CleanRom Inheritance 3.4.6-10.4.4.25/US ODEX and about an hour after I got a screen pop-up asking me what prog I wanted to use. I had no idea what was going on in the background to require it. I kept randomly getting them and got pissed so I selected a file manager. Sure enough, there were pics of whatever I had on the screen.
Any ideas what would be causing this?
While it isn't critical it sure is annoying.
Yep I have searched the thread to no avail. Did I miss it?
**Critical info**
I have disabled the "recently used" long press function in the ASUS Customized setting area. I can use the pwr/down vol to take one.
There is nothing on the top of my tablet to cause it by inadvertently pressing the buttons.
It happens randomly regardless of what I am doing and regardless of whether or not I am docked (I have the ASUS OEM dock).
Thanks all,
Lndcrsn
Have you by chance installed any rogue apps? Making intermittent screenshots is a known feature of malware hoping to catch your login details for websites and bank accounts and so on. I'm definitely not saying this is what is going on on your 700, but it might just be the case. Standing in your shoes, I'd wipe completely clean and start over. I do that for my Flashing OCD every once in a while anyway.
Hmm..
It would appear that Lookout had some sort of virus. I DL'd it from Google Play and it immediately popped the "choose application" screen with this:
I found this great free app called Lookout. You should download it for your phone! xxxx://bit.ly/XxXXXx (I deleted the URL info to prevent someone from clicking it)
Went with Avast now.
So...wtf? Is there a virus/bug out there that modifies Lookout?
@Marty
Thx man. I followed your advice and was able to find it that way. When I reDL'd it popped the notification and I used Evernote to figure it out.
Lndcrsn
Well, more info...
It is still happening but, only when docked on the keyboard.
It happens randomly still and, happens when the tab (docked) sits for a while. The "select prog for..." screen pops up and I select evernote to verify.
It wouldn't still happen with a complete wipe and reinstall would it?
Has anyone else had this happen with CR.I.?
hmm...

[Q] Slow Home Behavior

Hello everyone!
Let me start off by saying that i'm actually using an unrooted, officially update nexus 5, updated to the latest 5.0.1
I have no problem whatsoever, battery really seem to have improved, but lately i've been getting a strange behavior
After a period of use (it goes from a couple of days to a whole week) the phone oddly slows down when i press the middle button, to return back to the homescreen.
For example, if I'm using the facebook app, and watch a couple of videos along with opening a few external links, when i press the home button, the whole home "loads" from start. I mean, i literally see nothing for a second, then it slowly loads widgets and icons. After it's been loaded, everything works flawlessly again, but if i open facebook again, use it for a while and press the home screen, it loads again.
Mind that i have no custom drawer (i tried Themer, it gives me the same error, it says "loading homescreen" when the problem appears) but the problem is still there with the stock homescreen. I tried force-closing the apps i used, thinking about a memory issue, but to no avail. I have to turn off and turn on the device, and everything works wonders again.
Is there any app that could help me with this issue? I'd like to understand why it's doing this and which app is slowing down my phone.

I am not Sure whether this is 100% sure, But have heard that there is a memory leak issue in lollipop. Which might be the reason of ur problem. And the oly way get enough memory is to restart. But again, I am not Sure whether the above information is correct though.

I've heard that too, but it's strange that it has appeared only now. I haven't had this kind of issue ever since i updated it.
The FB app is just real buggy. My personal theory is whatever that app does exposes the Lollipop memory leak.

Yep i know about that, the FB app is just horrible script-wise. Nevertheless, i've never had THIS problem. And even if i forceclose it, it doesn't solve the problem anyway.

What is App Stack, and what happens if I uninstall it?

From the little I've been able to find so far, "App Stack" is something that is installed on only the Sprint variant of the Galaxy S8.
Beyond that, I can't find anything.
It IS an app that I can uninstall. It weighs in at 47.76MB, and appears useless to me. I'd prefer to dump it.
Oddly enough, it also has a 1x1 widget, but when I try to place it on my homescreen, nothing shows up.
Just wondering if anyone knows anything more concrete about it?
I uninstalled it, no worries. No clue what it is though...
Uninstaller!
So I put the widget on my home screen and it was blank for a while. Then all of the sudden when I came back to the home screen it started displaying ads for apps I did not have installed. Uninstall that ****!
App Stack is bloatware , its an app that lets you manage the install and uninstall of apps, so you can says its like an app manager...
How to uninstall?!
It doesn't show up in any lists of apps. It doesn't show up in notifications. But it puts notifications on my phone (Samsung Galaxy S7/ Sprint) and i can't block it from notifications or change its permissions or find it to uninstall it. It makes me feel incredibly insecure. I can't read bank statements on my phone until i can get this bloat GONE. PLEASE, somebody help me...
It's bloatware you CAN remove. My mom kept getting notifications from it although it didn't appear listed with her other apps. I searched for "app stack" on her Samsung Galaxy phone (results were the same whether the search was performed from Settings or the All Apps screen) where I found it and promptly uninstalled it.
