Anyone ever see the message "Process system not responding". Here's the story.
Well, I've been installing apps like a loose cannon, figuring I may be dooming myself to a hard reset, and it may have come to pass.
Last thing that happened while the phone was running good, was I ran the demo of the 3D game XXXXXXXXX. I received a call, and had to hop away, and after that the phone became unresponsive. Looking at what was loaded with Advanced Task Killer, I did not see the game to kill, so I turned off the phone.
Now, it is taking a very long time to 'boot'. The Phone is Locked screen would pop up, and I'd try to slide it off, and it would slide about half off. Screen black except for the clock of the lock screen. And after sliding off half way, the screen would go black, as if it was off, but then the lock screen would come back.
Kept thinking that ultimately it would finish. After a bit I got the task bar at top, and it was saying preparing internal memory'Preparing Internal Mass Storage"; then finally " Media scanner running". Finally a few icons from the dock. But everything else still black.
Then finally it would come up with a big message "Sorry!. Process system is not responding. buttons for Force close, and Wait. I don't know if that is an Android message, or an app message. I tried force close, and it went back into the same iteration of events.
So the next time i tried a boot, I did not respond to the message for a while, and it seemed to be making progress behind the message. It went off, I turned it back on, it had lock screen, moved it off a bit easier.
Then finally it came up more screen things in place. Then again with a message "Process system is nto responding". Let it set 'til it went off again. This time it came up a bit futher, and this time it came up with window to select launcher. I selected TWiz launcher. Process message again, and I killed it this time.
Whewh...Still not resolved.
I guess if there are any suggestions short of hard reset, i'm interested in hearing. maybe one of you have had this happen. If it ever finishes loading, first thing I'm going to do is remove that game.
One thing that is a pain and I think contributes, is that so many apps load by default it seems. And the more you install the more that happens, from what I have seen. I know I don't have as many apps installed as I've seen others reference, but I do have 2-3 different memory type utilities that I've wondered if they woudl interfere with each othre, but they supposedly don't all load at boot.
Post long enough. I'll add more if I find anything interesting.

Well, the above post exactly describes what I have on my Captivate as well. Long boot times, "process system not responding", black screens, media scanner running/completed repeatedly, severe lagging...
Does anyone have any advice on how to deal with this issue? I've uninstalled my most recent apps, but it has not made any difference. Many thanks for any guidance!
Sounds like both of you need to restore to stock...Look in the Dev section for the Stock Odin3 1 click post..it is a sticky so it should be up towards the top..Follow the instructions and you will be back to stock...
The problems I mention above occur mostly during a reboot. The phone does eventually come up, with only occasional lagging still left (which may be more typical). I am torn between dealing with the lagging until Froyo is released (hopefully later this month) or perform the "restore to stock" you mention.
If I decide to "restore to stock", does that mean I lose everything? apps, messages, config, customizations, etc.
And if I lose everything, can I restore some apps with Titanium Backup? TB was loaded 2-3 weeks ago and I do have a full backup.
When Froyo comes, will it require the same or will it upgrade the existing OS and leave apps alone?
Many thanks for your response jhernand1102
I did that too, I sett a replacement lock screen wrong (because it asked me too) and there I was with out s phone for a few hours. The one click odin didn't work for me though. So I used the updated stock rom jh2 i believe. Look for the stock rom threads in developers forum as well as the one click odin.
If the one click odin doesn't work feel free to pm me with questions on the other rom.
Make sure you read it but they is a lot there that may confuse you.

With titanium backup you should be fine. I haven't used it but that's the point of it. A reflash may be easier the finding the error and correcting the problem. And during any flash you may have some risk of losing something but I don't think, going to froyo will lose apps by design. Anyway you have titanium backup and samsung kies to help you keep everything.
Good luck!

I guess I forgot to post back what I had to do...having had no replies at all. I think I ended up in another thread.
Anyway...I did in fact have to reflash. Using the one-click which I believe is this thread is what I used.

Thanks to all for replying today! I will go ahead and re-flash to stock. I was hoping it would be longer (a few months) before I'd have to re-load, but I guess when you live on the edge (root and lots of installs), ya gotta be ready for things to go wrong.
I do love this phone though and Android after being on a BB for so many years! It is pretty much a 1.0, so we should expect bugs and work arounds until they work the kinks out. In a crazy sort of way, it is still fun to work through these gotchas. Thanks again!
Yeah. I really hated the idea of a reflash.
but, if you haven't yet, you need to look in the DEV thread, and look into Clockwork Mod and Rom Recovery. As well, you should get teh paid version of Titanium backup.
Between those two things, occasional reflash and reload is not too painful.
I've learned so much today! Got the paid version of Titanium Backup for an easy "restore all via batch" and also did the ROM Mgr / Clockwork Recovery (thanx ewingr). So, I now have the best of both worlds for getting out of a jam and looking forward to trying out any new ROM's that may come out; with ease thanks to these apps!
All of a sudden my Captivate is opening and closing my app drawer multiple times, and the phone vibrates as of I am hitting the button to do this.
I am on Cognition 2.16.
I have read that multiple vibes means that FVs are happening, but with the app drawer opening and closing like that, I'm not sure that is the case here.
Any ideas? Of something is FCing, is thee some log I can check?
I'm afraid I may need to do a completely fresh re-load.
Not sure if this is related, but when i first got a captivate the home button was hitting itself and you could see the home button dimming as if it was pressed.
All apps would close themselves, since the home button was being pressed.
Related? I am unsure, but the vibrates are suspect.

Whatever is going on with this thing it is killing me.I'm out of town now, but when I get back, I guess I'll have to try a complete refresh, with a master clear. Doesn't seen anyone has any input, do this must not be a very prevelent problem.
If anyone is paying attention to this little saga ....
I think I need to exchange my phone. I have flasted back to stock build (stock even before the 'fix' that they sent out)...and I just experieneced it do some of the wierd stuff.
I think I'll finish applying 2.17 Cognition, just for kicks...but expect it to still be problematic, and will likely return it tomorrow for a new one.
By the way, I'll add: it was generally acting like it was entering various random keys. Most often, like it was hitting the BACK key. But then it would possibly back through several things, such as opening the APPS, then closing, then reopening.
I could be in XDA app, reading a post, and all of a sudden it would back out.
Really strange.
My second unit did the exact same thing (my first unit had borked wifi). Oddly enough, mine didn't do it either until I flashed my first ROM onto it, but then again that only took five minutes from when I first opened the box. A flash back to stock didn't help. I had to exchange my unit, and have had no problems since. If you're even close to your thirty day window, run, don't walk, back to the store.

Got the new one. Flashing mhy cognition 2.16 to it right now. Fingers crossed.
I have no idea what's going on here... a few days back I noticed when I put my phone down, and picked it back up maybe less than a minute later, Google contacts would be open that I hadn't opened (specifically often to one person -- who I know is totally computer illiterate), or Google Search app was open... a few times if I'd left my web bowers open when I'd unlock my phone weird Google searches would be new tabs on my phone. I forgot about it for a few days because nothing strange happened.
To night took the cake... I put my phone down and a few minutes later heard a noise from it. I don't know what the weird noise was, but I checked my phone (it had been on silent!). I looked at it and about 5 tabs were open on my phone. One for Xbox 720 (I think this has been the random search result on more than on occasion), one for some actress I'd never heard of, some random other stuff... all on my Dolphin HD web browser listed on as a search on Google (no websites actually opened) ... a few of them when I pressed the back button actually had a page or two previous of weird searches. ALL OF THEM, the first Google page lead back to was a search for remote desktop protocol. Which... really, why would someone be searching that on Google if that's what they're doing on my phone (and on every tab they've opened)? This is really weird.
Another thing I notice is when I check the marketplace after this, the Go keyboards voice program is the last thing viewed (not installed). I've never viewed this on my own.
Currently, I've turned off my 3G... and actually, it still seemed to be working even unchecked, so I went in airplane mode. Ok, and even IN airplane mode, I just opened my phone and Dolphin web browser has like 10 web pages open but not loaded, and my Google Search was also open... and in its history has type Xbox 720. Uh... I've never used Google Search app before. Also my emoji side of the keyboard was activated.
I'm using LG G2X, rooted, flashed Weapon. Never any problems like this until very recently. The only recent apps I've downloaded (only about 3 in the last month) are all highly reviewed with thousands of downloads... I don't download random stuff onto my phone either.
Everything seems related to Google Search app, emoji, or the Go keyboard, along with trying to automatically search the same Google-related stuff on my web browsers. I don't get it.
How do I STOP this (hopefully without resetting the phone)? It's really unsettling.
remove dolphin hd ....
its probably a bug since remote handling a phone requires atleast a net connection

The Dolphin browser hasn't been updated pretty much... ever. So I don't understand how it would be the problem, it's the same as ever. I don't have apps automatically update. Do you really think it's the web browser? Isn't it odd that it was fine as my main browser for like a year and then went crazy? Plus it was fine for about 24 hours and then went all weird for like 30 minutes straight.
The weird noise I mentioned that got me to look at the phone was really freaky too, it sounded like a high pitched child's laugh, only lasting about a second...
I use AVG. I scanned my phone after this... it mentioned malware in an app I've had forever (some word search game) so I deleted it. That was it.
Also, while maybe unrelated as I don't always go into my settings, I felt some things were checked/unchecked that I wouldn't have had... like "view keys" when typing out passwords and I had "use wireless" and "use GSP satellites" (battery drainer unless needed, right?)...
Anyway, I've just used AVG and deleted just about every app I don't use.
But I can't delete Google Search, and it seems to be the weird one. When I press back after all this weird stuff, it often leads to Google Search, and it has its drop box open, and the only two things searched for are Xbox 720 and n. Just the letter n. I've never ever searched for either of these things.
I'd suggest you disable Go keyboard (preferably remove it for now). See if there is any issues from that point onwards.
It sounds like your phone might be possessed. You might take it to your local church.
All kidding aside, why not format /scard and restore from backup or flash a new ROM?
Sent from my SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
I have just disabled the keyboard... but while checking running services on the AVG and closing what I didn't want, I also checked in settings under running applications... I noticed I had two Android systems running... which, I'm pretty sure shouldn't be happening?
One of them had been up for 30-something hours, the other only 6. About the time everything happened, I'd say. It says it was started by VpnServiceBinder (no idea what or where that is) and that the process is called com.android.server.vpn:remote
Two Google Maps were also running for the same lengths of time.
I ended to process on both of the 6 hour ones, without any any system failures...
So... yes... help?
I don't want to restore the phone, seems like a LOT of work... I'm not that tech savvy, either.
Okay. You should do this: root your phone, install App Quarantine and give it SU permissions. Then freeze all apps that are not system apps, Install an antivirus (I like Avast), then start enabling them one by one as you give them some time in between to check for one when enabled causes the 'seizures' and off course you have your culprit.
Otherwise, flash your phone with a custom ROM. There are many detailed guides here on XDA. Good luck with that.

The happens sometimes, it's a really random and rare bug. After a reboot there should be only one process. But the vpn remote is not a good sign. The best would be to start with a clean system, but if it's a lot of work for you, you could backup your stuff (only what's really needed) reflash the rom and back up the essential parts and hope.

Well, I'm back to say it's still going on. Usually, only at night, like 1-2 AM. Not every night, but sometimes back to back nights. The things it does don't seem like what an actual person might do.
Three nights ago I turned my phone on and instead of getting the lock screen I got the app that plays songs and it was blaring a song in my face. The next night, the same song just started playing, super loud despite silence being on, all by itself a few minutes after I put the phone down. Did I mention the freaky things usually start pretty soon after I put the phone down at night? Last night I heard the sound of a button on my phone dial being pressed (but there was no number actually pressed). When I long pressed my phone after this to see what's running I've got (none of this I opened):Google Search (always without fail this is open; it no longer has typed anything into the search though, it's just open), Phone (pretty much always open too), Apps 2 SD (this isn't normally open), Android keyboard settings (nothing looks different), Settings, Bag It (that stupid little game), and Dolphin web browser (last night it had a new tab open and nothing typed in it, the night before it had randomly looked up an acronym and I'm not sure what it stood for.
To answer a few of the previous questions:
I don't have a voice system opening, and when this stuff happens it's dead quiet... and I don't have wifi on because it drains the battery.
I suppose I may have to reflash my phone or something, which to me is almost more trouble than it's worth especially since I don't know if it'll help... as far as I know I've removed pretty much everything now, and anything left I've had for ages without issue until rather suddenly a few months back... and still am having problems, but it doesn't seem like anyone here really knows what's going on. I've never heard anyone mention things like this online.
Am I the only one ever with a "possessed" phone?
I think I'm just going to turn my phone off at night. What a hassle.

Try to get an adb bugcheck, then analyse it with the Sony automatic analyser that pal szasz made.
I agree with the guys who says its haunted.
Get a priest to perform a exorcism on it! Kind of freaky, but i would perform a clean rom install also.
I would negotiate with it. If that dosent work then search the filesystem for freaky stuff. If that dosent work then do a factory reset. If that dosent work then flash a new ROM. If that dosent work then get a new phone and get rid of the old one for good!
And if your new phone does the same thing, or, your old one comes back to haunt you then you have three options:
1) Deal with it. You're efforts are without meaning. Someone or something is terribly wrong, and it is way beyond your reach.
2) If you try to show someone (who you dont really know, and it wont act up when they are around) then go see a doctor, or phycologist. Someone might still be messing with you though (problably a good hacker, or person you spend alot of time with, most likley smart too).
3) If people know it, and, you are %100 sure nobody is trying to screw with your head then you, or, your phone is cursed. Go see a prophet, pastor, bishop, etc. Just not anyone who is anti-relegious, becuse they will just make it worse :/
Please thank if this helped you, or, found it comical in any way.
I'd just re flash stock. Will take only a few minutes - hardly any trouble. Even backing things up you're looking at less than an hour. No reason not to.

My phone is doing the same thing. The bad part is that I have the LG XStyle which hasn't been able to be rooted yet. What do you guys think my options would be being I can't root phone. Its been my second month with my gnote pro 12.2 and im starting to have problems. First there will be some random press on my screen, ramdom apps will just pop up even tho im not touching its icon. Letter "N" on screen keyboard sometimes doesn't work, when im typing very fast it'll skip the letter "N". When im sliding it side to side it'll bring up the whole slide page even tho im just using one finger. The slide effect won't go through, i have to slide the whole page from left to right or vice versa. The worst thing that i experience is its like its acting that something is tapping on the screen very fast you will see the icon up and down really fast and you really cant do anything to stop it but to wait until it hangs up. cant shut it down, back and task button doesn't work. Home button works but can't shut it down, itll just reboot it self.. It's driving me nuts coz basically i left my laptop at home so i have to work from my note and right now im working on a site.
My device is on full stock, i haven't done any tweaks on it. And im using the wifi version SM-P900. I recorded a video of my gnote pro 12.2 using my g3 and pardon me for the quality since i have to convert it coz the file is so huge. It is a long boring 8 mins video showing my device is acting weird.
TURN OFF THE VOLUME (i can't find android video converter that removes the sound).
0:44 - you can see that it change the highlited email even tho im not pressing anything.
1:02 - its brings up the whole page screen. Im just using 1 finger to slide.
1:20 - menu button doesnt work. It hangs a bit and pops up a balloon.
1:35 - this is where it started doing crazy stuff.

In all seriousness though, could you turn on 'Show Touches' under Developers options? (Tap build number 7 times under About Device if you can't find Dev options.) It may have phantom touches.
And try the above suggested solution of detaching the case if you're using one.

Thank you very much for the respo se. No i don't have the case for my note im using slid on pouch for 12" notebook to keep it safe i stead. I never accide taly drop it either. Im also having random error message like "can't arrange alphabetically" sometimes "internal server error". I also got very few apps installed si ce im usi g this device as my laptop, i needed every storage space of this device, what im using most is hancom apps and autocad also chrome, default email apps a d sometimes skype.
Im not gonna edit this message so you can actually see how letter "n" misses.
Im using the default screen keyboard of the device. Tho the problem is not present if im using bluetooth keyboard. Im planni g to do a factory reset but the problem is i can't do that till i got home.
I just hope that this is more on software issue than hardware issue. Also, it happen often but randomly so i can't figure out what apps causing it.

That rules out the case issue. These tablets are sensitive to magnetic fields and will act up in the presence of magnets, that's why i mentioned it earlier. I was careful in how I asked because some will be in denial about whether or not their case has any magnets hidden within the case.
If your tablet is indeed showing phantom touches the next logical step would be to factory reset and observe the tablet for a while afterwards. You'd have to reinstall all of your software though so make sure to back up all of your files first. If you do go this route I'd suggest refraining from logging into your google account when you set up the device from a reset OR if you do log in, don't opt into auto backup/restore of the device. This will keep the device from installing previously purchased software making it easier to monitor it BONE STOCK to rule out the chance of your issues being software related. If you can do this and the tablet has issues bone stock then it could be a hardware issue with the digitizer . .

My main suspect actually is google chrome, this month i think i receive 4 updates with chrome and since then i started having this issues. If you suspect it's chrome, go to settings > application manager > all > chrome > erase data and cache, and then uninstall or disable it. (depending on the available options).
As for the keyboard, can you give swiftkey a try, see if that has the same issues?

Yes i think that's the culprit. Im in the middle of backing up my files now coz i decided to go for a factory reset. Ill observe how my device will behave on full stock without users apps installed.
As for the keyboard, yes ill install swiftkey.. somehow it makes me ask myself, why the hell am i still using the default keyboard?
Anyway, thank you for all the inputs, ill give it all a shot.
After going back on full stock, no apps being installed, and testing for 2 days, sad to say but the problem still exist. Il give it another try and will flash stock rom, this will be my last resort and if things still not fixed, maybe its time for this beast to have its repair and vacation.
About 6 months ago I found Spynote &a RAT on my device after a couple of years of people saying I was crazy because I knew someone was in my device. I got a new phone a week ago from a guy that owned me money and asked if he coulld give me his ex's phone that is basically brand new TCLT768W. I did a manual and regular factory reset before putting my accounts on the device but I started noticing strange behavior a few days after putting my account on it. So I put antivirus and a privacy detector that notifies me if my camera or microphone is accessed by a 3rd party. I've been noticing the same things that made me know Last time that my device was corrupted so I decided to put a firewall up and go through my Apps and found a no name Android App that had Hyperloop in the link attached to it and an app called RatSwitch that I cant find anything about but Androrat is the entire first page of Google search when I tried. So I checked my anti virus ran another scan, nothing. But I went into the privacy detector and it was shut off and I am certain I had it on so I clicked it on and when I did I accidentally shut my screen off and when I turned it back on I saw what the video shows. Every time the screen comes on the camera is accessed by a 3rd party. Notice how I'm holding it at an angel. That's what is the craziest. I tried recording the screen and when I did it doesn't do it. So I got my other phone and I couldn't believe my eyes, if my camera was pointing directly at the phone in question it still didn't do it. So I tilted it and sure enough, it did it again. The notification that pops up every time I turn on the screen says Camera access by 3rd party and stays on about 5-10 second. If I don't go into privacy detector every, 15-30 minutes it's shut off. So, Here we go again. My temp solution is to deactivate my camera and restrict it from access internet but how can I get this off. Totalvirus, metadefender, my antivirus all day I'm clear but I say phone's don't do this dmic they are clean. I know hoverwatch, the spy app, takes picture of person who u unlock screen just like this every time it's unlocked but nobody has had access to put anything in my phone and after reading about my situation I'm convinced it's attached to my browser or account. Problem is everything, my kid's pictures of they're entire lives, 400+ passwords and basically my entire adult life of memories are on this account and deleting it not an option. An I just screwed or do I have another option for removing this and whatever else is with it. I thought I got everything when got rid of spynote and the dropper I found with it 8 month ago. I. One more thing, how can I trace who put it here. I'm convinced it's someone I know and I'd pay a month salary to find out who. Not really but you get the idea. Any help appreciated. Thank you.
Have you been to their website? The FBI deleted it.
I saw some virus that I found in my log files while I was developing. It was saying swipe up swipe down click. It turns out that it can persist in a factory reset. I forget the name of it. I got it late one night grabbing for a flashlight app as fast as possible during the pre sytems flashlight. It was doing like...Survey or somethings.
So I've seen something capable of this. They say you have to sell your phone.
Did you ever install RatSwitch? I'm interested in that app.
Wait a minute. What version of Android are you running? Something isn't right.
If you're cool with Venmo or Cashapp then I can download Spynote and look at it for you.
Hmm. That' funny. Spynote.us is back up. I'm sure that I forgot to use TOR before I went there. I'm sure that I got directly hacked over tcpip
I probably did. That's probably exactly whaet happened.
Temporarily the Fbi had a notice up letting everyone know they took them down. The new website is even more deceiving.
