Did you apply a theme or something? Try going into settings and applications then default applications and make sure under "Home screen" it says TouchWiz home or whatever launcher you're using after that go to themes and make sure the theme you want is set. Have you used the debloater app?

touchwiz is set to default, and debloater was used but not on any samsung apps..just mainly hangout, verizon apps and instagram

I'm having the same issue. Never disabled anything except Verizon apps and amazing stuff. I even went so far as to uninstall all my themes and apply stock and reboot still showing elements of a couple different themes. I never reset before or after update so I'm thinking that might do it, but I've been avoiding it cuz I don't kmow how much I can backup and restore. Things such as SMS and WiFi passwords.

If it's still not working and you're planning to do a restore you can create a backup within the phone itself by going into settings and tap backup and reset and set an account to backup to and then wait for a little bit so it can send the backup to your account after that just press and hold the volume up button and power button at the same time until the phone shuts down and it should give you the option to factory reset.
I just did it the other day and it remembered all my apps and passwords for the WiFi.

You may have to factory reset. How to go about that is above.

Unfortunately the SMS messages were gone but not my contacts so it wasn't to big a deal to just start new messages.. There is apps that can backup and restore those... Another thing was my pictures were gone but I had sent everything I wanted to keep to my laptop. After the restore i put them back.

That was happening to me all week last week forcing me to reboot the phone I even took the sim card out and made sure there was no dirt or anything on it but even that didn't help so I had Verizon put a new one in and it hasn't done it again yet.

At this point I kinda wish I could swap it out for a nexus 6 or something.

Is there some way we can "catch" this update to see what could possibly be used for helping us root?! I have it downloaded to the phone but I have a feeling it's in a hidden folder..

Verizon back up Plus

I'm not sure (GNex owner, or I'd test) but you SHOULD be able to disable the application in the PhoneSettings>Apps tab.
I tried that and it doesnt work. Keep getting the cloud icon every time i take a new picture. Very annoying.

lol, ok I'm a little slow today. The thing is it just started doing this a couple days ago and I've had the phone for 2months. Other than being pron to doing this, would a factory reset do any good or am I wasting my time.
What do you mean by cutting out? Is it just refreshing the screen when you come back to it? I think that is something browsers dependant.

No it is actually shutting off and going back to my home screen. It mostly does it when I'm trying to tap on a link and it just shuts off like I hit the home button.

Ok, I have had 3 HTC smart phones and never had this happen to me either until a few days ago. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. I'm looking for something other than stock browsers are "pron" to this or "That's odd. Stock browser never did that to me" The 2 previous phones I rooted, ran different roms, flashed radios and kernels' so give me a break and give me something useful. This one is not rooted 2.2 version and un-rootable at this point. The only reason I'm hesitant at a factory reset is having to set everything and re download all the apps I have. Sure wish this was rooted, I would have Titanium Back Up and not have to worry about re downloading all these darn apps.
Didn't mean for my comment to sound sarcastic. I was trying to experess that I didn't know the solution to your problem.

Similar Issue
I'm having a similar problem and really hope someone can help out. About a week ago my stock browser and ICS Browser + both started force closing on me at an alarming rate. I tried replicating the issue and found out that's its tied to javascript. The webpages that give me issue load just fine if I disable javascript but I don't see why I should have to when I've never had to before. In fact the sites that are causing crashes used to work fine until very recently. I'm on CleanRom V, but I've verified the issue with CleanRom 4.5 Final and AOKP Jellybean build 1.4. I've been using Dolphin Browser to get around the issue but I don't want to have to use it. Forgot to mention that I've also cleared my browser's data several times to no effect.

[Q] Moto G LTE reboots 8pm nightly

My Moto G LTE reboots most nights at 8:00 sharp all by itself. Does anyone know what app might cause that? I'm trying to live with it as a feature, but it is annoying, especially if I am using the phone.
The phone is unrooted. I had hoped that the recent OTA update would fix this problem but it did not.

Can you please post some screenshots of your app drawer? Maybe I can tell you which app does this.
You can also try to:
1) clear cache from recovery
2) disable the geo location before the usual time of reboot
I appreciate the reply. How do I do screenshots uprooted? I agree that knowing the apps would help.
Is the Locale app compatible? I use it with the Google Voice plugin because I'd paid for I t with my Galaxy Nexus. I may try uninstalling it for now to see if that fixes it.

I decided to return to factory state and start over. No reboots for the last two nights. I'll add apps back slowly.

Yes I literally just got this today after trying to fix the Call Standby battery issue, it's ridiculous. This battery life bug is monstrous and the fact this app doesn't open to fix it is driving me crazy. Honestly been so frustrated today over these 2 things haha. If you or anyone has a fix for this, do please reply to my post in this thread so I'll be notified.
Reset the date on the phone.
from what i've gathered from the material theme the beta has expired and in order to use it you have to change the date on your phone to a past date for it to work

The update broke the ability to flash zips now. He is aware of the issue, it has something to do with a MD5 check he added to the update and 64 bit systems.
What exact fix are you trying to flash?
The so called fix itself isn't a flash. I'm assuming he wanted to do a fresh install.
Nothing has fixed the drain for me.

Uninstall "System Apps" without root

Is there a way to uninstall apps such as Instagram without root or better yet to root without triggering knox to not allow me to use samsung pay. I want to install these apps through the app store since then I am able to set smart manager to optimize them and close them in the background when not in use.
Unfortunately, no. There is no way to actually uninstall bloatware without root, and from what I understand, there's no way to root without tripping KNOX since root requires a modified kernel.
You can disable them though
Sent from my SM-N920T using Tapatalk
Package Disabler Pro - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ospolice.packagedisablerpro&hl=en
This will do exactly what you're looking to do. Root is not required, it does not trip Knox, and you can disable ANY app. But be careful. Disable the wrong thing(s) and you may negatively affect performance.

You won't get any space back in the user partition even if you do uninstall system apps, because they reside in the system partition.

+1. System apps are in the system partition and therefore deleting them won't give you any storage back. Honestly, in this case there's really no difference between disabling and uninstalling, I just forgot all about package disabler pro.

Ah true that. His whole point was wanting to optimize them though, which essentially means if they go unused, that they'll be hibernated, which is almost the same thing as disabling them.

I dunno I wouldn't call optimizing and disabling the same thing. One you simply have to open to resume normal function. The other you have to disable, then re-enable when you want to use it, and then disable again...

Yeah you're right. I was just comparing them since a hiberbated app and a disabled app still basically do the same thing, which is absolutely nothing.
I wouldn't worry about attempting to move to userdata in order to optimize the apps. With the long list of apps I froze using Package Disabler Pro, my battery life improved at least 10-15%. Now on the new update yesterday, it's borderline insane how much better my battery is lasting. And nothing has been optimized yet since the default period is 3 days and we haven't reached 72 hours post-update yet.

Sure. But if you use it on a regular basis, it won't be optimized anyway. The app has to sit idle before anything happens.

I think we are speaking on semantics. Frankly we don't know how he uses his phone. For instance I check my Instagram maybe 3 or 4 times a day. Far too often for me to be enabling/disabling apps just to check my feed.

Absolutely true.
The way I see it, we're all just offering alternatives since he does not want to root and/or lose Samsung Pay.
"Disabled in background when not in use" tells me he wants them there when he needs them but he doesn't really need them cranking down data or cycles on the cpu when he isn't using them. How well the optimization works or doesn't is neither here nor there.
Not to mention disabling and optimizing are two different things and not really an answer to the ops question.
Frankly without root I don't think what he is trying to accomplish will work.
My question is why do you think optimization won't work on system apps?
