I am considering selling my Samsung Galaxy S2 for the LG Optimus 3D, as after playing with one in a phone shop, I am really impressed with the 3D and build quality of the phone.
What I would like to know is, if the battery life is worse than the SGS2? I know it will be in 3D mode, but what about 2D?
I would also like to know if the phone gets warm/hot after extended use? I hate the way my SGS2 gets really hot around the ear piece and camera after only moderate use.
What is the App memory size?
What is the signal quality like on the O3d? My SGS2 varies quite a bit.
Anything else you can tell me to help make a decision?
I do like my SGS2, but i'm really liking the 3d and solid feel to the O3D.
Thanks.

Having had a GS2 and having this phone now I can answer you I think.
Battery life is far worse than the GS2, as a example my phone was fully charged at 8am in Friday was over at my sisters for the day helping her out, around 50 mins music on the bus on the way, played a bit of 3D movies showing her, took some also, few texts but no calls, a bit of internet browsing, came home at 6 ish with less than 23% left.
Heat wise isn't something I have really noticed certainly not the the level of the GS2.
My T-Mobile signal seems no different but Wifi is better and gps for me.
I sold mine for the 3D side of this phone as I truly love it, but the battery has me concerned slightly, I don't drive so no way of charging it if required and i am missing slightly the good battery life I had before, do I regret selling it ? no I don't I just hope the battery gets better on this or I may have to re think things, or get another battery which I don't want to do have to carry another one around.

Thanks for the reply. I barely get 12 hours out of my SGS2 (less than 10 with heavy use), and coming from the iPhone 4 it's disappointing. I hear there is an extended battery for the O3D. I wonder if it makes much difference?
The heat problem really bugs me on my SGS2. Especially being summertime lol.
Can you tell me the space reserved for apps/games as I have lots on my phone so far.
Anyone else who has had experience of both models?
The more info the better
Thanks.

My 03d heats up also
Like you I am also in a dilemma too, do to the problems of gs2 weak wifi and no gps lock, they gave me the choice of phones if I wanted to replace it, I went for O3D, do to it's popularity it's seems out of stock and will get it nxt week.
However I now seem to be getting second thoughts, mostly the phone is good, but some say camera is poor, which am not happy about as picture quality is important to me, to be honest 2011 and 5MP just don't go together. And few other little things.
So I would also like to hear from people with both phones in hand and what they think of em.

Videocamera just got an update firmware V10d. Looks really good
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C02tzF1sjjA
Unfortunately not for pictures. Lets hope in the next firmware it will also be upgraded.
You have to really LOVE 3D in order to justify this over the Galaxy S II.
The 3D effect is decent but in reality, it's just too gimmicky to be really useful at the moment. For example, if you take a picture in 3D, it's not really very good when in 2D, which means on your PC etc the camera performance isn't great.
Other than that, it falls short in every single area, though I suppose the wifi strength is a bit better.
I own both phones, so any questions, fire away.

What about the gps? Which locks faster without any other connection active, and how about sound and headphones? I don't much care about 3d to be honest.
I like the power of gs2 but 3d and hardware of o3d and resolution of sensation. All three phones have something that other does not, which makes it very hard to choose.
To cut it short, here is my comparison as I have both now:
Battery
GS2 - until the battery drain is fixed, you will need to try your luck. If nothing happens you can charge your phone once a day with light use meaning 2 hrs or mp3, light surfing and facebook etc. If the battery drain hit you, that will be less than 10 hours or even worse. If everything went well with correct tweaks, battery can last for around 18 hours.
O3D - with 3D game, you get 5 hours at most for the standard battery. That is when you play for 3~4 hours. Light usage is about 12 hours. If you tweak it right with background data off etc.. you get around 14~15 hours. The battery definitely won't give you one day
Connectivity
When it comes to this area, it's more like a speed vs stable
GS2 - data is fast with its 21mb, wifi is really weak even when compare to GS. If you have a very strong signal, it is fast thou. Connection recovery is not good compare to other brands, if it drops.. you have to wait for a while to get it back automatically.
O3D - data is at 14.4mb, wifi is much better than GS2. Connection recovery part is done much better than GS2 in general.
GPS
GS2 - forget it. It is better than the original GS where it never locks on. but it is nowhere to be really useful. I really hope that GPS works better on this phone.
O3D - very decent, it compares to the garmin-asus m10 which I have on hand. A small tips for everyone looking. get mapdroyd in market to use on O3D, then you'll have a good offline map.
Storage
GS2 - with its storage starting at 16GB It's enough to go even without external SD. 32GB coming out later, it would be a great bonus.
O3D - 8GB internal, can only say it is enough. The korea version comes with 16GB.. a bit envy
other things like memory, cpu, camera.. etc. both phones are springing off to different direction, really no point in comparing them as it is more a personal use and taste at that point.

I got my O3D on Friday and I just love it.
I sold my SGS2 right away.
Here are my observations:
- The O3D feels like a brick comapred to the SGS2...the thickness and weight is very noticable. However, the O3D felt more solid because of this.
- The O3D does heat up with intensive usage (say watching an hour of 3D videos) but it is definitely nowhere as hot as the SGS2.
- I get better signal with the O3D
- I get better wifi signal with the O3D
- The SGS2 is a tad snappier than the O3D (especially with stock LG launcher...put on any other launcher and it's just as fast as the SGS2).
- The O3D charges way faster than the SGS2 (the SGS2 takes around 3 hours from 0-100 with phone off).
- The SGS2 has a slightly louder speaker (handsfree and earpiece)
- The music via headphones sounded better to me on the O3D.
- The O3d has a cover to protect the USB port. Yes, it's a hassle to open it every time but it does prevent dust from getting in.
- SGS2 Amoled has better blacks and more punchy colors (if you like that...some people don't like the cartoonish like colors). I was slightly disappointed with 2 SGS2's that I had...both developed dead\stuck pixels on the screen.
- Games run great on both phones (however asphalt 6 seemed to run on the O3D smoother)
- Battery, I can't really comment yet since I just got the O3D two days ago. I managed to use the O3D non stop from 100% charge and it lasted around 8 hours...I remember when I first got the SGS2 and playing with it nonstop lasted about 6 hours.
- SGS2 has twice more RAM than the O3D. On the SGS2 free memory would hover around 400 and on the O3D around 190.
- SGS2 has tons and tons of ROMS, tweaks and optimisations.
- GPS is definitely better on the O3D
- SGS2 has bigger (16GB vs 8GB) storage...good thing I have a 32GB microSD card
- The browser seemed to be tied just that in the O3D there are no checkered boxes.
In conclusion, I am very happy with the O3D. The 3D is pretty neat. The SGS2 is also an awesome phone and I was very happy with it but I wanted to try the 3D so I bought the 03D. Feel free to ask me any other questions.
One more question guys, when both phones are switched off which of the two looks more blacker? GS2 really looked nice on the table with it's noble black body, does the o3d look the same?
They are both more or less the same black visually physically.
The SGS2 has a more black above and below the screen...the O3D has two strips of greyish brushed metal.
On the back the SGS2 is more black as the O3D is grey on the back.
LOL...which phone looks blacker when it's switched off and on the table?? do people actually pick a phone that looks blacker while sitting doing nothing over another phone that looks 98% as black as the blackest black that ever blacked..thanks coolfi you made me laugh...
If 3D is something you want you will love it ignore the people saying its a gimmick as it isn't, and it really looks fantastic and I just couldn't watch 2D videos anymore on the gs2 they just looked like any other phone plain and flat.
The screen is nice on the gs2 but a few commented how it made pictures for example look un natural with colours and not how they really look, oversaturated was the common thing I got, colours were much brighter when viewing the pictures on screen than they looked in real life which isn't' realistic.
A certain person has said its a gimmick on another forum and 3D isn't important to him so why buy a 3D phone for me , , I personally use this phone more and watch way more videos than I used to on my previous and its only because of the 3D.
The battery is my only concern with it I could easily get 24 hours out of if the Gs2 but as I been told by so many I am on this more than any other phone I have had.
My choice came to this, what can the GS2 do that this can't and the answer was simple nothing, each have pros and cons but I can do everything that phone can do on this.
Then I thought this can do one thing it can't ever do and that is shoot 3D video and pictures and play films etc in 3D and for me this was the clincher.
Lets not forget its still on a stock rom so things can only get better and Froya doesn't really support dual core cpus so it's being held back at the moment. Gingerbread will make a huge difference as a it supports dual core better, but you will always be one step behind the updates on this phone, the GS2 has been upgraded to 2.4 now and we are only set to get 2.3 on this in October.
My mate had a Desire HD and messed on the Gs2, he said its a nice phone but apart from the camera side it offers me nothing over what I have now, and wouldn't buy one, he said the same when I tried a Sensation.
When he played some of the 3D videos a smile came on his face and he loved it I can't get him off it when he comes round now he always using the 3D side.
He has decided he is selling his phone and getting one of these himself, anyone who wants one should test one really as its the only way to see if it's for you.
In all for me and I bet for everyone that has one, I have a phone that won't just sit on the side not used as much as it should as finding 3D stuff to add and view I am still doing nearly 3 weeks after having one of these, in that time other phones had lost its novelty and got picked up when needed, make a call browse something on the net for example, this phone has issues but so do all phones, you won't get a perfect phone.
Using the GS2 as a media device wasn't that important as I said before a video played back looks only as good as any 2D phone apart from the screen, it had no wow factor, I can guarantee if you whipped out your GS2 to show friends a trailer for example, then your mate said oh btw look at it in 3D on this phone your GS2 will end up back in your pocket as your friends enjoy the 3D experience, that sums the phone up for me.
Just now I showed the O3D to the first person at work.
I showed her the Tahiti clip and when the water was splashing towards you...she literally ducked to avoid the water...
Thanks for all the replies guys.
Sounds like the heat problem is not as bad as the GS2. I don't mind a bit of warmth around the back, but if it heats the glass up around the front then it's a no go!
I understand that the still 2d picture quality is not as good as the GS2, but I only use the pics to upload to Facebook or share with other phones.
Battery life of the O3D does put me off because if it is worse than the GS2 in 2D mode it could be a deal breaker.
Has anyone tried the extended battery yet?
The main memory doesn't bother me as I can add a memory card.
The reserved 512mb doesn't seem be bothering people in other threads, so I suppose this isnt a problem?
I'm not really interested in benchmarks as long as the phone runs smoothly.
I do really love the 3d mode and like the idea of watching Avatar, playing 3d games, etc etc. (cant afford a 3dtv unfortunately).
Maybe I should just get a Nintendo 3DS as a companion to my GS2 lol..
i've only played with both phones for a short while but i bought the optimus for two main reasons;
1. the camera is better (it shoots 3d, and really damn good 3d at that).
2. dual channel memory. faster memory is better memory.
i'd heard the horror stories about weak signals with the gs2 and that there are continuing problems with the gps. gps functionality isnt a massive concern for me but signal strength is as i spend a lot of my time in basement gig venues so i need something that will have a reliable signal in a difficult sitch like that. my wifi tests showed the o3d to be capable of around the 20mb mark which is pretty great. i dont know why the rest of you seem to think it can only do around 14mb as i consistently get around 19.5-20mb.
the touchscreen on the o3d responds better from what i've seen but again i am only basing that on 1 day of use.
based on what i've seen yesterday in using the o3d almost continuously all day (new toy syndrome) the battery life is amazing as long as you can keep yourself out of 3d mode. anything that uses the parallax function eats the battery bigtime and this doesnt surprise me. that said, last night i flimed nearly an hour's worth of footage of a band in 3d starting from about 43% charge before the camera told me "the battery is not enough for the camera". it looks like the battery will last quite a while if you can resist playng with it all day.
the one thing that is definitely a dissapointment with the o3d is the led flash. it's weak as hell and doesn't even go off in 3d mode at all.
i'm absolutely happy with my choice and would go the same route again though. excited for CM7.1.

I practically get an instant lock-on with my GPS indoors and outside with my GS2, and as for wifi, even on 1 bar in my back garden I get the same speeds as indoors near the router (about 15mb down and 3mb up on a 30 mb connection). I think the wifi bars on the GS2 are inaccurate more than anything else.
My phone signal wavers quite a lot on my GS2 which I notice indoors when making or receiving a call and can cause voices to break up.
The most important things for me is battery life compared to the GS2 and Heat problems. Also Signal strength
I love the smoothness of menus and the screen on my GS2 and the fact that I can run multiple apps without any slowdown.
I have to say the 3d is impressive on a 3DS with the slider on full. Camera's are a let down though, but games are better.
Decisions decisions.....

lg thrill is trash.
i just returned it
LG thrill is faster. dual core dual chanel ram same gpu but frame rates may be better due to he other feature mentioned.
is it better? better at what? there is not often better/worse. there is only what each does/doesn't do. the thrill will browse sites with a lot of content much better and may be better for gaming.
the 3d is a joke. it is less impressive to look at the 3d than it is to look at the 2d infuse screen. it doent have good black levels or vivid colors.
the infuse is light and thin but feels flimsy (because it is, the captivate was build much more solid) but the thrill looks cheep and has a lot of edge area. it is within about a millimeter of the infuse with a smaller screen and thicker.
the thrill is a good preformer especially with browsing but may feel slow if you open the camera app. there is definately something not right with that but it might get updated. the infuse has dated core hardware but looks more impressive, will get android 2.3.5 soon enough and I have no complaints.
I miss my thrill
I tweaked it and ran gtg thriller rom and it was plain awesome.
The 3d was great. good content is rare and most people hold the phone wrong

Looks like the Thrill has the same quality control issues the G2X has. I'm on my second, and it's worse than my first one. Battery lasts about 5 hours, drops 10%/hour when idle. It gets HOT when charging, so hot that if you browse the web or do anything, it will reboot on you constantly. It's easily over the 40 degrees Celsius the battery is rated at.
Last night was the last straw for me... The screen got so hot, the adhesive that holds it in place melted, and I have black stuff melting down the inside of my screen. I haven't seen that since I was repairing the old Samsung Instincts.

Thanks !!! Thought about it- Studied the specs and I am keeping it.
keeping my skyrocket.
just didnt feel the LG nitro was worth paying the extra $35. The HD screen is nice but wasn't blown away; the superamoled Plus display and UI on skyrocket is good enough for me. The skyrocket felt better in my hands as well. Smaller internal storage and battery concerns about the LG nitro didn't help either.
for another comparison, check out mobiletechreview.
i was in an at&t store today, and played with both phones. the nitro's screen is really stunning. i do prefer it over the skyrocket's. i also love the textured back, and general build quality of the phone.
however, the nitro was noticeably laggy. simple things like opening menus, or the app drawer caused significant hesitation. i also ran my standard web browser test where i open a heavyweight desktop-version website (http://surf-forecast.com). the skyrocket opened it fast, and scrolling was butter smooth even while the page was still loading. can't say the same for the nitro. even after the page fully loaded, scrolling and zooming was not butter smooth at all.
you can't judge a phone by one web page, but the difference was so large that i didn't bother trying any others. maybe the demo phone they had there was messed up somehow, or maybe future rom updates will smooth things out, but it looks to me like that HD screen on the nitro is taxing the hardware too much.
this quote from diane hackborn's recent post seems to add credence to this theory:
As device screen resolution goes up, achieving a 60fps UI is closely related to GPU speed and especially the GPU’s memory bus bandwidth. In fact, if you want to get an idea of the performance of a piece of hardware, always pay close attention to the memory bus bandwidth. There are plenty of times where the CPU (especially with those wonderful NEON instructions) can go a lot faster than the memory bus.

GPS of LG Nitro
Hi guys,
For people who have the LG Nitro, could you comment on the GPS sensitivity:
- How long does it take "GPS Test" app to lock?
- Accuracy as reported by GPS Test or Google map
- Does GPS maintain lock with Google Navigation?
Thank you.

This was my experience, too. I wanted to like this phone. The textured back is nice, the resolution is amazing, the screen quality is really good (except blacks, at the highest brightness, are meh next to Skyrocket), and I liked little things, like the tall widescreen (less width on the phone, easier in the hand) and the three buttons (I feel better for ICS), but the lag! Oh, how the lag killed this thing.
I'm not sure if it's the high resolution or LG's Touchwiz Lite, which I hear is poorly coded, but stuttering and jittering was the rule when scrolling. On a brand new unused store unit, it was bad enough to be frustrating in a 15 minute demo. If this gets an AOSP or CM ROM, it may turn out to be better than the Skyrocket, but until then, stay away. This phone is unusable without some good devs, sad to say.
I really wanted to buy it. Why can't AT&T have one phone with no compromises?

I cannot believe that people actually think the display on the Nitro is better. With both phones side by side full brightness the super amoled plus blows that IPS out of the water. Rich Eye Popping Colors and Dark Blacks Compared to the Mediocre Bland Display on Nitro. I know comparing 720 to 800x480 is crazy and the pixels are sharper on Nitro but as far as displaying two 1080p videos the Skyrocket still Looks a lot better in my opinion. Real world test with the phone a foot away you cannot tell that our Amoled Plus is not same resolution as the Nitro. I hate when someone boast about the resolution and you have to zoom in 150% just to see the difference or put the phone 2" in front of you. Whatever the case My White Galaxy Skyrocket is On Top at this Moment. Bring on ICS and Butterfinger to that Nexus.(Was so excited for the Nexus but with the messed up launch and bad news after bad news I could not make myself get it now Screw you Google)
my take on the Nitro vs Skyrocket
Phone looks and feels amazing.
I liked the screen, but clarity was nowhere near what it is on the Skyrocket. Sad too because color felt dead on (not over saturated, more real life on the Nitro) But it was "fuzzy" and did not show as much detail
Performance..dead on exactly the same on Antutu EXCEPT for RAM, the Nitro scored MUCH higher.
Linpack scores were high 80's-low 90's compared to the Skyrockets mid 70's low 80's
the deal killer....the rear speaker
At full volume we could barely hear multiple youtube videos that played loud and clear on the display Skyrocket and our Inspire
I did this test display vs display in store. We spent an hour in there.
I did notice the wierdness mentioned about the browser buttons on the bottom but it was not that big of a deal to me.
Oh, and I know I would break that usb port cover lol
and of course..the 4gb internal mem is a huge deal to me but I was willing to overlook it
in the end we ordered 2 white skyrockets from bestbuy for $139 each (frys electronics pricematch)
It really is a great phone, but not in the key areas I WANT it to be

Hi guys,
For people who have the LG Nitro, could you comment on the GPS sensitivity:
- How long does it take "GPS Test" app to lock?
- Accuracy as reported by GPS Test or Google map
- Does GPS maintain lock with Google Navigation?
Thank you.

I have the phone, and the GPS is the best I have ever used. I locked 12 Sats in 3-4 secs on an overcast day. It also locked while I was sitting like 5 feet from the window on the first floor of a 2 story house. Like it literally doesn't get off more than 3-4 meters of accuracy. On Google navigation it's a clean arrow all the way, no enlarging blue circles .
Again my contract was up, so I was deciding between Nitro and SR. I went with the Nitro for the screen initially but everything just works perfect on it except the battery life. It's not good at all, and I can't even force it to do 3G only to save battery.
SR is a pretty sweet phone too. Tough decision for me. Also the Nitro was $150 not $250 like most reports. If it were $250, I would went with the SR no doubt.
I had today the first glance of the Galaxy S4 (the GT-i9505 version) in here in Portugal!
The first impression was very positive, and yes, it's all plastic but i like the touch and the lightness of the S4!
So light in my hands and it didn't gave me the first impression the S3 did, that the phone was some cheap phone that i could drop at any moment in the ground and get it in a million pieces!
One of the things i really disliked is the plastic back cover... i hate it because it gives the sensation of being some cheap plastic..
On the other hand, the TouchWiz 2.0 seemed to me that it lagged compared to my Note (see signature)!
Tried to view some videos and only activating the developer options and forcing GPU i had some smoothness in the video playback (WTF???????)
The overall phone lagged in the interface, opening apps lagged a little bit and what really got me disappointed was the video playback.. laggy!
Anyway the Android version i tried was 4.2.2 and even though i was unable to take some real photos of it because there was a security guard guarding it but overall it seems like a fantastic device with a spectecular screen and JESUS the image quality is outstanding!
No i am not going to buy it since i love the Note devices and i am waiting for the Note 3 for me and my gf!
It's a really good device and honestly i wanna get my hands in the octo core device and give it a ride in some heavy gaming
I loved the front design from Samsung, it is gourgeous! The back sucks honestly and even though the device is only in exhibition for 2 days it was full of scratches in the back (dafuq? )
Here is my first mini review from the point of view of a user!
Had it in my hands for almost 10 minutes, couldn't test it fully but i will have the opportunity of doing so in this week and i will take some photos of the device
:good:
I was really confused with your mini review.
I couldn't quite get if you liked or disliked it.
EDIT
Oh, read it twice.

Liked my friend! Compared to the S3 which really disappointed me this is a gorgeous device
I'm pretty shocked at the amount of lag on my new GS4, my GS3 is far smoother(even more so running AOKP Task650). My HTC One is butter smooth in comparison. Other than the very noticeable lag, the GS4 is rather nice, I prefer the feel in hand the GS3 but it's a close second to the HTC One which is the best Android phone yet in my opinion.
nice! I'm glad to be hearing positive opinions about it in my country
I already reserved mine, just waiting for it to arrive to my local Worten store cannot wait
where did you try the S4 btw?
