Is lg thrill better than infuse? - Samsung Infuse 4G

lg thrill is trash.
i just returned it

LG thrill is faster. dual core dual chanel ram same gpu but frame rates may be better due to he other feature mentioned.
is it better? better at what? there is not often better/worse. there is only what each does/doesn't do. the thrill will browse sites with a lot of content much better and may be better for gaming.
the 3d is a joke. it is less impressive to look at the 3d than it is to look at the 2d infuse screen. it doent have good black levels or vivid colors.
the infuse is light and thin but feels flimsy (because it is, the captivate was build much more solid) but the thrill looks cheep and has a lot of edge area. it is within about a millimeter of the infuse with a smaller screen and thicker.
the thrill is a good preformer especially with browsing but may feel slow if you open the camera app. there is definately something not right with that but it might get updated. the infuse has dated core hardware but looks more impressive, will get android 2.3.5 soon enough and I have no complaints.

I miss my thrill
I tweaked it and ran gtg thriller rom and it was plain awesome.
The 3d was great. good content is rare and most people hold the phone wrong

Looks like the Thrill has the same quality control issues the G2X has. I'm on my second, and it's worse than my first one. Battery lasts about 5 hours, drops 10%/hour when idle. It gets HOT when charging, so hot that if you browse the web or do anything, it will reboot on you constantly. It's easily over the 40 degrees Celsius the battery is rated at.
Last night was the last straw for me... The screen got so hot, the adhesive that holds it in place melted, and I have black stuff melting down the inside of my screen. I haven't seen that since I was repairing the old Samsung Instincts.

In other words...it's a big fat NO. I was thinking of trading my infuse for one, but I see too many of the same complaints.
I see the Thrill more as a novelty toy than a phone.

the infuse had all those complaints ('cept the insane battery drian.) but I haven't seen new users say those things and mine doesn't do it any more. I wonder if the kd5 modem caused it on the early infuse models?

I think I will stay with G2x after testing Sensation

I had an opportunity to borrow one from corp store rep.
Unfortunately, I am not impressed with this machine. The screen gets washed out if you watch more than 30 degrees off while G2x doesn't (it gets blue tint though).
The rep told me it gets 24xx on Quadrant, which is about same as my G2x.
Moreover, mine doesn't have much problem, so it may be wise for me to stay with G2x and wait for Samsung Hercules.
The screen size makes me want the sensation. The screen quality keeps me at the g2x
G2x with faux AOSP
Timely thread for me. I'm returning my 2nd one and was really studying that Sensation a little while ago....."Should I cut my losses and get this"? Looks pretty good, it really does, but I'm staying with the G2X.
Hopefully the third one works without the reboots. But it is so nice I think I'd likely try a fourth. This after much thought.
It definately needs replacing.....hell it disconnected w/ black screen WHILE I was talking to the T mobile rep today LOL and while it did not reboot in the night, it did lose the bookmarks.
But my daughters is still running perfectly. Not one problem.
And man, this phone is just like her. When its good, it's very very good, but when it's bad....
I really love this phone.
How often are you getting these reboots? I've had a total of 3 G2X's in my household, and none of them suffer from reboots. I had to replace mine today because of USB issues, but other than that the phones have been great.
1st locked up twice and the flashlight went on (?) and I had to pull the battery. Frankly that wasn't enough to return it but two days later was when they mysteriously disappeared fron the shelves and I had an Ick attack. It was on my 14th day and I exchanged it, just in case.
This one as I said elsewhere has been resetting in the night. Every morning I wake up to the phone wanting my sim password. I accidently activated that and like it. But seeing it tells me it has reset, which I would not notice otherwise I don't think. And I have been interupted three or four times on my calls with the phone shutting off. And it reboots randomly and frequently during the day. This is not good.
The first day (friday) it locked up with a very loud buzzing sound, not like the vibration but a loud buzz. This is my main reason for sending it back. I do believe the reboots issues will be fixed with the update.
In retospect I probably should have kept the first one. It was problem free other than the two incidents.
I really don't know which way to go.I'm a die hard invidia fan and the tegra 2 IMO will outperform the Snapdragon anytime but due to all the build issues with the G2X I just don't know where to look.

the screen part: HTC has long had a problem with screen visibility in direct sunlight, and it seems that issue has continued somewhat with the Sensation. It's definitely a step up, as at medium brightness you can make out what's on the screen, but compare it to the iPhone 4's Retina Display or the Super AMOLED Plus of the Galaxy S2 and it's miles behind. However, the resolution is definitely a step forward, and the sharpness of the text is impressive.

Big toss up. Screen size is very tempting. I loved HTC built devices and the LG kinda let me down with all its kinks, but the support is nice.
I've got a solid G2X, no freezing, rebooting, and minimal screen bleed (after 1 return). The sensation looks like a great phone to me but the size of the G2X is the biggest I'll ever go. And after 2 HTC phones I'll never go back until they replace that damn speaker phone speaker with something you can actually hear.

In all honesty, that second link was mostly garbage. If you're going to compare 3 devices, at least do it in a common and neutral environment. It seems a bit silly to judge text clarity when you're looking at several different examples on different backgrounds and text effects.
Angle of view is also useless after a certain point. If you're viewing your phone at a 20 degree angle, it might be best to worry about untying yourself and getting away from your kidnappers first.
wasnt the screen on this thing supposed to be abit concaved? certainly didnt look that way in them pics on one of them links!

Yes, or atleast its supposed to sit a bit inside the housing so that when you set it face down it doesn't touch the surface.

I thought the same thing, go look at the specs compared to the G2X
http://androinica.com/2011/04/t-mobile-g2x-vs-htc-sensation/ scroll down a little.
G2X Dimenions
4.90 x 2.50 x 0.40
Sensation Dimenions
4.96 x 2.57 x 0.44
and only weighs .22oz more for the aluminum feeling.
I remember reading people really liked the metal strip the G2X has, that they would avoid putting a cover on it cause it looked so nice!!! I agreed but still bought a case since I'm selling the G2X for this aluminum sexy model called a phone, haha. I just love the feel of HTC phones prefer Sense overall as well... sucks for those with all those issues and still want to keep the G2X I feel bad as I have no issues and am still selling this phone.
Good luck peeps.

Have no issues with my G2X either but I feel the Sensations aluminum body isn't enough of a upgrade over the G2x but I can tell you what is a worthy upgrade. A SGSII variant. It's still the phone to beat and is still called the best Android phone that exists. Engadget even said in the Sensation review that the SGSII was more responsive and had more power. Myriam on Engadget said it wasn't enough to get rid of her SGSII and Sense was holding it down. I think I'll pass since I won't have enough app storage available to even store 2 of my Game Loft games. It's 2011 and HTC is still giving us 1gb of app storsge.

ya I dont want plastic at all... and launcher pro will take care of the sense hogging down if it does slow it down... doubt it will. The Sensations resolution helps with pixels... I've seen a couple captivates, and a vibrants that had weird looks to the text stuff... Sure they are bright and vivid but clarity is awesome...
Besides that Samsung has a well bad rap when it comes to phones, lol... just saying the G2X is awesome but I prefer HTC and Sense.

remember people
the sensation has most likely been sitting in boxes with those encrypted bootloaders.
and the benchmarks i see do not score 2400 on the sensation.
But it should be a decent phone, also the sensation has the mhl connection not a seperate hdmi and i hear it doesnt come with the cable. and they are hard or imposible to find.
also the mhl standard does allow charging but no hardware out at this time knows that standard so no charging while using hdmi out.
It did take 3 tries but i think i have a good g2x finallly it was dated april 30th for anyone that cares
So i would wait and see whats said once they come out.
Im sure it will be a fine phone but if you are into modding id wait and check out that bootloader first.

No way would I touch a sensation after I researched it for my buyers remorse period when I bought the G2x. Glad I made the right choice in choosing a phone. I never had a problem with any of my G2x phones. I traded the first one because of the backlight but never had any reboots or issues. The second one is near flawless.
The Sensation looks like a sweet phone and all but it is just to much of a step back in too many departments coming from the G2x.
Less powerful CPU/GPU
1Gb of Storage vs 8Gb
Lower Front Cam Res
MHL HDMI Out - Power
Encrypted Bootloader (which may or may not be unlocked) (HTC said "future phones would be unlocked")
Ram Killer aka Sense
Sure you can opt to run Launcher Pro and not use Sense... but that doesn't mean that Sense just vanishes. All those graphic files have to be stored somewhere. I cooked many Sense roms to know the difference in weight between a Sense and Non-Sense rom.

Torn: G2x Vs Sensation (Another one)

I know another one of these threads but im super torn between the two. I've read through the forums and done my research on both even though the sensation is new and the locked boot loader we don't know its true potential yet
I know the issues with the g2x ie. screen bleed, battery drain, overheating and random freezes. The sensation with the bad angle and high contrast washed out screen, the death grip and some minor touchscreen issues.
I guess what it comes down to is i want a fast phone and the scores show that the g2x is faster but reliability is a key issue with the g2x maybe GB will fix it (hope so) but don't know. With sense vs stock vanilla do you think that’s the reason why the HTC sensation has a low quad score compared to g2x? I know people say it’s the screen size but if they both were running stock do you still think the 1.2ghz snap vs 1ghz tegra would still be in favor of the g2x?
I was leaning towards the g2x just the fact that it has a unlocked boot loader which is definitely a big plus for me because i definitely want to mod the phone. Now that HTC has said they will unlock the boot loader which phone would have the most developers behind it?
Sigh, so torn between the two the lag between apps is a pet peeve of mine and i believe there are currently more developers backing up the tegra nvidia chip so it kind of leans me towards the g2x but the sensation does have a neat screen and really is untapped potential I think.
Let me know what you guys think.. what phone I should go for!!?!
THANKS
P.S. if GB fixed the random reboots and battery issue would u still give it up for the sensation? Seems most people are giving up the g2x for the reliability of the sensation
I'm in the same boat as you. I think the safe thing to do, and what I'm thinking about doing, is waiting for an update for the g2x. If nothing comes out soon, I'll end up getting a nexus or even a mytouch 4g.
Oh, if only people weren't complaining about the g2x, it would be a no-brainer.
I believe that the tegra 2 chipset has new architecture compared to the snapdragon. Also, it seems that game developers are really supporting tegra 2 fully because tegra has their own games store. If gaming on your phone is something that appeals to you, definitely go for the G2x, you will not be disappointed. I recently played Riptide GP, a tegra optimized game and I was blown away to say the least.
I don't really know much about the sensation, but if you do end up buying the G2x, I would suggest buying a used one in excellent condition from ebay, rather than a new one because you never know if it will have problems. I personally bought from gazelle store (30 day return period) and like the description said, it was in excellent condition, not a single scratch and no issues such as battery drain or rebooting.
If you like taking pictures a lot though, I heard that the sensation's "instant capture" is pretty awesome to take quick photos, not that the G2x's camera is slow, just not instant
Just personal taste...
I had the G2X.
As soon as I laid my eyes on the 4.3 qhd display, I was sold.
The amazing thing is that it truly does not feel or look like a 4.3 display. The 16:9 aspect ratio + the thin bevels around the screen make it "seem" smaller.
Truly a fantastic...crisp display. I knew it's what I wanted for the next 2 years of my contract +/-. I don't have the money to buy a new device every 6 months
Also keep in mind the Sensation records audio in STEREO. The G2X and GS2 only record audio in MONO. Something to consider that most people might not think about.
Either way in real world use...it's had to wrong with either one. Just make sure ya get a G2X with no screen bleed and a Sensation with no dust under the sceen...
My G2X had a good battery and didn't reboot a single time in the 2 months I used it. I gave it up for the Sensation because in my OPINION, the Sensation is the all around better phone. If you want a speedy UI, go with the G2X. Some things are faster on the Sensation while others are faster on the G2X. The only game I play (HomeRun Battle 3D) is smoother and looks better on the Sensation.
You have to make up your own mind. My advice would be to use both devices for a couple hours a piece and then make your decision.

QFT about the gaming aspect. I think the Tegra store has some cool games, especially Riptide GP like you mentioned. To the OP. If gaming is important to you then go with the G2X like this guy said.
That being said. The only game I play which is Home Run Battle 3D runs smoother and looks better on the Sensation. I guess it has to do with the game getting along better with the Snapdragon processor over the Tegra processor but I'm not to sure.

I had mentioned in an earlier thread that my son purchased a Sensation on Thursday afternoon. He came to visit today for Fathers Day, so we had the opportunity to have them side by side.
Both phones are pretty. The Sensation is wider and heavier. The Sense overlay is nice to look at and the unlock ring is cute. The Sense worked fairly well after I got used to it. I've always liked my stuff plain, and my son likes to customize to the max.
Performance wise, holding them side by side, the G2x was faster in some things...The Sensation in others. Browsing the web....it was a toss up.
The sound, the Sensation sounded better. Not only did I prefer the HTC ringtones, they just sounded better.
Intangibles....things like practical settings...were almost the same for both devices. G2x had some settings the Sensation did not. Nothing critical though.
Signal strength....side by side, the G2x carried a better 'visual' signal. where is hit 4g, he only had 2g. Switched on WiFi, the Sensation aquired the signal faster, but the G2x appeared to have more bars of strength. Speedtest was relatively the same.
Battery....this is the big one. He walked into the house at 100%. In less than 30 minutes he was looking at 81%. He did NOT have GPS on. But did have LIve Wallpaper. The rest was default actions. During this same period..same amount of browsing, same amount texts, my G2x lost about 5%.
Both phones are nice. Both feel good, both look good. The Sensation is a bit wider and a bit more bulky....but his hands are bigger than mine. In my mind the edge is slightly to the G2x. In his mind its the Sensation. I think the devices are that close. If he wanted to trade with me, neither of us would be disappointed.
I think this battle comes down to how those intangibles work for you. How it balances in your hand, how you view movies or games, or websites. Its that close....so the choice is personal.. Like someone said earlier....get the phone in your hands...they out. Your choice will become evident.
I agree with everything the above poster said. It really comes down to personal preference between the two.
@alodar1...Your son might have a defective battery because even if I am playing HomeRun Battle 3D for 30 minutes straight online against someone in match up mode, my battery doesn't even drain 10%. I thought my battery on my G2X was pretty good but without a doubt, my Sensation lasts a couple hours longer. I would get a easy 12 hours from my G2X on moderate use but I get over 15 hours on my Sensation with moderate use. There's actually quite a few people who own both devices and say they get longer life from the Sensation and here's why. The Sensations CPU can throttle back to one core but the G2X's CPU cannot so it is constantly running 2 cores. That's just wasted power and poor design. Maybe an update can fix it.
Ok... I just sold my G2x for the sensation, and I'm not looking back.
The g2x was nice, then 1 week ago I started getting 3 day reboots , I'm sick of waiting for fixes and gb. Yes the sensation has It's issues but is a better device...
I sold my G2x for 340 just to sell it quick. I then used my upgrade to get the sensation. Spent 268 on sensation, then get a 50$ rebate.. so I made it with like 120$ and a sensation...
Just can't wait for fixes, reboots made me want to leave, everyone going to the sensation made up my mind.... Htc updates ...

bro what happened?? didnt u start the never again lg thread? thought u were fighting for the g2x not leaving it, lol idk whatever makes u happy, so do u like?
Don't do sensation... the internal memory is so small it can never reach it's full potential. With everything on an SD card, you have no hard wired storage. Its like your operating drive in a computer being already full, it slows everything down. I think ill ask for a replacement when Gb comes out if my phone doesn't fully fix itself. I'm afraid of HTC, always seems like a hard case with poor tech inside.

I have zero loyalty to any brand...just came from a BlackBerry 3 weeks ago....which I hated for the last 2 years. It worked as a phone and that was good enough.
I had the G2X for 13 days before I exchanged it for a Sensation.
I'm sooooo happy I made the switch.
I could not live with the screen bleed at the top corners of the G2X.
Then I started looking at the specs that matter to me most.....
The biggest one being the (imo) gorgeous qHD display and far better resolution. There really is no comparison.....the Sensations display is beautiful and I knew its the one I wanted to look at everyday for the next 2 years of my contract. Also it doesn't feel any bigger than the G2X....with its 16:9 aspect ratio and super thin bevels around the display...it doesn't feel or look too big....its just perfect.
What seems to be a sticking point for some people is the internal memory. Personally, I could care less about internal storage as I will never have the need to put hundreds and hundreds of apps on it. I would think that It is a very small % of users who would ever have more than a gig of apps on their device. Right now I have about 30 apps and still have exactly 1 gig of internal mem.
The other really big thing for me wanting to switch was when I discovered that the G2X only records in MONO. The Sensation records audio in STEREO. If having an HD camcorder is at all a selling point for you...you really should consider that.
Also, I guess I'm one of the people that like eye candy and Sense 3.0 is gorgeous and ultra quick enough for me.
That's my humble opinion

I know man. lol I was gonna fight for it, but then I though about the vibrant, and how I just dont want to any more, and not to mention I started to get reboots after a month of perfection and didnt do anything different, any rom.
With the sensation there is no need to fight. It just works.
So, yes the sensation is better, My first one was weird, and I had to return in, had this weird piece of something, like dust, dead pixel line or something. lol I think the rep didnt like me and game me the defective one purposefully, so I went today and exchanged it..
speed, just as fast as g2x, just turn off animations and dump the widgets. The shortcuts in the drop down are nice, the extra stuff on sense is really nice also.
screen, face on the sensation is awesome, slight angle, it gets washed out. I give screen to g2x.
battery: I had good battery on my g2x but the sensation does a lil better.
build: about a tie, but the design of how the back cover is, is awesome IMO. Like taking half the phone apart. lol looks sweet. So Im giving hardware to HTC.
GPS: sensation is fast as ****, g2x would need like 1 min to lock, sensation like 4 seconds. My tracks were dead on. Almost like gps got worse on the g2x.
call quality is a tie: they both sound great.
I dont know what else, that dont sound much, but its just a all around nicer device, I dont want to wait it out for LG to come up with something, when the sensation has it already.
Have a good g2x no issues besides not being able to use cyanogen mod because data doesn't work .
Using gb update zip, very smooth and no issues as of yet. Phone is nice but battery is a killer for me, barley lasting 6 hours , of moderate to heavy use. Tempted to sell and wait for the nexus to come out or an iphone if on tmobile. Have offer of $200 plus a mytouch 4g for the g2x.

my G2x vs Sensation comparison

yes, this is another one of those threads! hate if you want
i am also posting in both forums because it will be funny to see the differing responses.
anyway lets get into it. I currently have both phones next to me, and i will break them down in different aspects.
Screen: i have to give this to the sensation. hands down. i don't care about IPS or contrast ratio. the sensation screen just looks better and clearer, and can almost hold its own against my friend's superamoled droid charge, but the samoled screen is still better.
speed: both phones are blazing fast, and i dont experience any lag with either. so it's a draw
UI: this is just personal preference, both are great. i personally prefer sense over stock. i like the HTC apps the just work a bit better out of the box then stock.
problems: the sensation has the deathgrip, and thats about all i noticed. However the g2x has reboots, shutdowns, battery drain, and bad GPS. sensation wins this hands down.
Battery life: my g2x running cm7 nightlies gets about as good battery life as my stock sensation. but out of the box the sensation wins by a mile.
verdict: the sensation has less bugs, and sports a way better screen with better battery. I just found it more pleasurable to use, and it just works better in general. The g2x is a great phone, but i love my new sensation and it just makes the g2x feel cheap. the metal frame makes the phone feel great in my hand, while the g2x feels kinda cheap. the sensation also looks better.
I know people will probably troll in response to this, but quite frankly i don't care. I'm just happy to not have to deal with all of the issues my g2x had. i can now go drive somewhere and not have to worry whether my gps will decide to behave today, or if i will be stranded on the highway when the gps randomly cuts out!
How wise it was to post this here... lol

Sensation only has death grip issue? No Wifi cut outs? No dust under the screen? No issues with touchscreen response? Lol, laughable comparison, but whatever helps you justify your purchase.
G2X definitely > sense bloated Sensation
g2x= randomly dying when you need it the most.

He did purchase both of them though, right? What I don't believe for one second is that his Sensation didn't have any lag out of the box. The new version of Sense is lag city. HTC clearly didn't optimize it well enough. Once its rooted and Sense is removed, lag is not a issue. It does load apps and interact with them faster than the G2X. Google Maps is where this is really noticeable. In terms of feel, I think the G2X feels better. You cant even tell the battery cover is aluminum. It feels like plastic to me. I like the rubbery feeling if the G2X's battery cover better. In terms of screen quality, it depends on which one you get. The Sharp is very clear but the Acer panel sucks. In the end, once Sense is removed, it becomes as fast as the G2X in the UI. The only reason why I use my Sensation more is because I read a lot and text looks a lot clearer on its display. You also get more content on the screen due to size and resolution. If I gamed more, I would use the G2X more often hands down.
By the way, I've seen 6 Sensations in person and none of them have had dust under the display. Yea, that's a problem but not all of then suffer from it. When it cones to WiFi, mine is perfect with no cut outs or deathgrip issues. I eveb made a video showing how good my WiFi was. When it comes to touch screen response, my first two had those issues after 1 week of use. The one I have now that I've been using for almost 2 months has never devoloped them.
Both phones, like all of them made today have their own issues. It almost feels like a chore to find a bug free phone. I found my bug free G2X after 5 returns and my bug free Sensation after 3 returns. Either way, its extremely uncalled for.

Traded my Sensation for my G2x, couldn't be more pleased. Hopefully once the novelty of the bigger screen wears off and all the bugs start showing up, you will still be pleased with your purchase.

Give it a few days.. That's how I felt till I found out there are way more bugs than a periodic reboot could ever be... Enjoy.
Honestly I would trade my g2x for the sensation in a heart beat. My g2x works perfectly but why would I trade its because I feel HTC takes care of there products and customers LG can give a **** about any off us as proven.
Plus I like the bigger screen and I actually like sense ui

I've had both the Sensation and the G2X and I have to say my experience is about the same as the OP. I've had the G2X since launch and the Sensation since launch. The Sensation has been a much more reliable phone than the G2X, I've yet to have it crash since I bought it. Also, I have sold 3 sensations to people I know and I have two on my account, and none of them have any problems with lag, "deathgrip", or dust under the screen. Truth be told if you look at the forums, there really aren't a lot of people complaining about that, it's mainly the same people. While the G2X is fast, there isn't any noticeable difference in speed between it and the Sensation, the Sensation just has more animations. If you disable the animations, then there really isn't much difference worth mentioning. The speakerphone on the Sensation flat out sucks, that's my only real beef with it. The battery life is much better than the G2X also. All in all, out of the box, the Sensation is a better phone than the G2X in my opinion. You have to mod the G2X to get the same benefits (ie. battery life, and any semblance of stability) that you get with the Sensation straight out of the box. Then when you throw in the fact that you pretty much HAVE to mod the G2X just to make it stable enough to use on a daily basis, that really makes me lean that much more to the sensation...in the 2 months I've had the sensation it has yet to crash whereas my G2X would crash at least on a daily basis (and I've been through 7 of them).

When you run Sense on the Sensation, I don't care how much **** you disable, it is not as fast as the G2X UI wise. Its not a big deal as one is running stock and the other is running a custom UI but out of the 6 Sensations I've used personally, none of them were as fast as the G2X's UI until you removed Sense.

by saying this you are a troll as well. just thought i would tell you.
and for the record i have had 3 sensations now, all 3 with deathgrip. I even took the store mangers phone and showed him his had it to, the look on his face was priceless. but I don't use my phone at home much, especially when i have good 4g everywhere in my house. I also noticed the sensation has better reception than my g2x. i can get service in my basement with my sensation, not my g2x.
I still dont understand why companies release phones that aren't ready for market. Did no one hold their sensation with wifi on before they released it. Or did anyone actually use a g2x and see it reboot before they launched it. Or do they just not care and want the money, probably that.

Moving to SGSII Forums

See some of you in the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy SII. I recently dropped my G2x into the toilet, and have had the opportunity to grab a SGSII. This place was fun, and I am really going to miss the support (SII development slow at the moment - we now have root, 3 ROMS, and NO kernels). Hope to see some more development branching from this forum.

Yea I was looking at the SGSII in a store along with the Amaze but neither really pushed it for me. I REALLY like the G2x. If I get any phone it'll be the Nexus Prime on Verizon for my business phone and I'll cancel my personal Tmo line.
Still on the fence though, but saving $70 a month and not having to carry 2 phones around all the time sounds pretty nice.
The Tmo SGSII isn't without its problems. Being an outcast of the SGSII family line, development won't be as popular as the Exynos chips. Having a bastard chip means development has to start from the ground up (which is why it is slow).
It also lacks WiFi Calling and WiFi Tethering which is a big No-No for me. The screen also displays artifacts when scrolling. I don't know how battery life will be either since it is a totally different device then its brethren.
Overall it felt like a nice device and I would give serious thought to a swap... but I can't see paying for a Tmobile SGSII when one owns a G2x.
As far as the swimming lesson, remove all the cards and battery and throw it in a ziplock bag of uncooked rice for a few days.

As for a reply to the OP. I was in a Sprint store playing with their version of the GSII and I must say that it felt pretty nice. The camera quality I would have to say seems better but I still take my G2x Rooted because the 4' screen is my sweet spot.
Although the new Nexus is very tempting but imo the screen is going to be huge.
I really miss my G2x, and only got the SGSII because I got a good off-contract deal. Plan on using my upgrade when the Nexus Prime drops on T-Mobile.

Yea I understand.
As far as the Nexus screen size, it sounds big but really not much bigger then the SGSII. You have to take into consideration that the buttons are included in the screen size. There was a comparison video of the Nexus next to a SGSII, and the usable screen was only like 1mm taller then the SGSII. The bonus is that videos and stuff can hide the onscreen controls to give you extra room, vs always having buttons wasting space.
I have a Transformer and they have apps in the market to hide the buttons by tapping a hidden area in the status bar or by swipe gestures. So most of the screen size is in the length of the phone. Has anyone gone to sizeeasy.com and compared the dimensions to the G2x?
Would be neat to actually see how wider the phone is... because thats where it counts the most (I don't have monster hands). On a side note, the G2x having a 4" screen was awkward coming from the Nexus One's 3.7, but now it feels normal.
Here is the link:
http://www.sizeasy.com/page/size_comparison/33381-Galaxy-Nexus-vs-G2x
Just under 4mm wider, but thinner and taller. Shouldn't require much bigger hands to grip it.

How is this phone?

So I'm getting a new phone, and I've been looking around at tmobile phones, and this phone seems pretty amazing. Price isn't bad, either. I'm coming from a Cliq 2, which had very little dev support, and this seems like its got tons. However, after reading a little on this forum, it seems like some members don't like this phone.
Now, I'm not looking for a top of the line smart phone, although the HTC Amaze has crossed my mind, but this phone seems to have tons of good things going for it, with its cameras, display, and processor.
So, would any of you recommend this phone? Or should I look at other choices?
Thanks!
Sent from my MB611 using Tapatalk
Stock ROM is junk, I had reboots, and wifi would connect, but won't actually work.
Good news is, it's super easy to flash a new ROM, I use Weapon, and it's perfect.
So with the new ROM, you get a decent display, clear call quality, fast, loud speakerphone, and good batt. life.
So if the price is right, I'd buy it.
There is absolutely no reason to buy this phone today. Things like the Samsung Galaxy S2, the Galaxy Nexus, and whatever it is HTC is pushing these days (I don't keep up with Sense phones) are most assuredly going to be better. The G2X was outstanding in its day, but that day has past.
To be more specific, the 1 Ghz processor is underpowered, 1.2 and 1.5 are the norm now. RAM is even worse; the 512 of the G2X is pitiful compared to the gigabyte that is standard on newer devices. Tegra 2 is still a very good GPU, but with the weaknesses of CPU and RAM it's just not worth it.
As far as camera and display, both are unremarkable. The display is LCD instead of the LED that phones normally have; this results in duller colors and blacks that aren't very dark. However, the screen is perfectly visible in any level of daylight, so make of that what you will. I've never ran any tests, but the camera strikes me as average. Nothing particularly special about it.
As far as problems go, while this phone was riddled with them on release pretty much all of them have been fixed by either LG or the devs. Dev support, by the way, is superb. Nothing lacking on that front.
I say you already made your mind up on getting the g2x if its features are already pulling you in. No matter how many ppl say yes or no believe what you want out of the phone first. I love my g2x even with minimal screen bleed and occasional reboot its the best phone I've had yet.

Haha alright! Thanks!
Oh, I'll be ready for anything to flash ROMs, the Cliq2 wasn't the easiest phone to do so on. But alright, that's good to hear. From what I've seen this phone has CM7, MIUI, and a bunch of other ROMs, like the one you said. That gets me excited, but I won't be looking forward to telling my girlfriend what I'm doing haha.
Yeah, it'll be $100 for the upgrade, so I think it'll be worth it
If you're worried about cost, the G2X is definitely worth it.

I agree, that if cost is not an issue, there are much better phones to be had. However, at the price point T-Mobile is selling the G2X right now, it's impossible to beat with a phone that has as many features.

Yeah, I'm trying to figure out a way to afford one of those phones. But if I can't I'll go with this phone.
I have read about issues with the 4G connectivity, for this phone, is this still an issue?
Also, how is the radio in this phone? Cause in the Cliq2 it was awful, I wouldn't get signal in places where my brother would get full signal on his G2

Amaze is cool but the G2x is the best value for a high-end smartphone on any carrier. I hear people constantly complaining about 1Ghz processors instead of 1.2Ghz or 1.5Ghz. This is baseless; it all comes down to performance. Not as if benchmarks are any better of an indication, but overclocked at 1.55Ghz, I get 5000+. Absolutely killer. Over 100 FPS in Quadrant.
Also, IPS display may have some light bleed (mine has ZERO) but the viewing angle and brightness are superb. It's no SAMOLED but still, looks beautiful. A slew of awesome ROMs coupled with outstanding build quality. It's a fantastic device.
The only thing keeping me from recommending this 100%: LG support is absolutely garbage. Be prepared for little attention for your baby G2x if you get one. LG flatout denies many issues and fails to provide support for consumers and developers.
I've also owned a Sensation, MT4G Slide, and MT4G (most recently) and the G2x is hands down the boss. I say get it. Or buy mine so I can get a G-Slate.

Yeah, from what I've read processor speed won't make too much of a difference with overclocking capabilities.
I think I've officially been sold on this phone, especially for this price and from what everyone is saying!
Another vote for "good value for the price" if price is a major consideration. If you're going to be flashing ROMs, I'm almost certain you can find something stable that will work properly for your phone. Enjoy!
The g2x is a great phone for the money right now. It performs as well as just about any other phone right now and has a ton of great features. It's no longer top dog, but it's not really surpassed by any other phone by a significant amount.
Plus they're just about free at target with 2yr upgrade right now. Can't beat that.

The only thing I'd watch out with the Amaze is its battery life. From the reviews, it sounded pretty bad. The Galaxy SII would be a better choice, but I hate how the AMOLED screen looks (It's bright, vibrant, but has a strong color shift). G2x's color is more comfortable to my eyes (pure personal preference here).
For the price, g2x is great
Alright, I'll be sure to keep that in mind. I think I'll be getting this phone though, you all have made it seem great haha.
But how is the radio in this phone? Because like I said earlier, my brother has a G2 and would get full bars in places where I would have no service

My fiance has the Amaze, and while she seems to love it, she HATES the battery life. It's pretty abysmal. She's a very light user and she's charging it every day, minimum, even when it's just sitting on the counter not being used. If she does decide to use it the battery life dips down to 2-6 hours at absolute best even with 2G/low brightness/etc etc. It's a very battery hungry phone and there is absolutely no way to get S-OFF on it atm, which for me is a complete turn off for an HTC device.
Also, her phone loses signal in a lot more places than I do.

With my Sensation, I'd get one bar service and sometimes 3G at my house; I get three bars + 3G minimum with this one. Much better.

I'll throw my opinion out there. For a T-Mobile phone (not counting the $750 GSM galaxy nexus, only phones you can get through T-Mobile) this phone might take a back seat to the amaze (I have no experience with that one, so couldn't say). But I've had both the sensation and sgs2 and g2x beats them both performance wise. Sgs2 did have the best battery life though.
Of course there's also the size issue, I really don't like my phone being bigger than a 4inch, yet it seems like all the manufacturers are forgetting about people like me, I mean come on if I wanted a tablet I'd buy a tablet!
