Hi everyone,
I few days ago a virus got into my s6, and completely messed up the phone. I went to the phone service, and they removed the virus, and now the phone works properly. But the virus apparently deleted all contacts, both from the phone and google contacts. And i really need those contacts.
I rooted the device with CF Auto Root, checked the root status with root checker, and tried restoring the data with Android Recovery Transfer, FonePaw and EaseUS. Some of them asked for root like it wan't rooted, and one of these (i think FonePaw) found only 2 contacts. I believe that the problem is with SuperSU, so i downloaded it from a few different sites, and still nothing changed.
I wanted to try rooting again so i did full unroot with SuperSU, tried rooting again with KingoApp, which failed.
Then i installed aSQLiteManager, went to /data/data/android.providers.contacts/databases, and found 1 contacts database, which was created after the virus, and i honestly didn't really understand the programe.
I also tried restoring contacts on google as well, but it also couldn't find anything. It restores the contacts as they were 15 days ago, and nothing changes.
Any chance this contacts are still there somewhere ?
Hello, if you login into a Samsung account using your phone in the past your contact may be backed up there, that's if you have backed them up on the Samsung account
Yes, my Samsung account is already on, and contact syns is enabled too. Nothing there tho.
But i don't understand how can i not restore the contacts on google. It's as if they never existed, or deleted permamently.
the virus may have filtered to your google account and deleted them to. Since you had Samsung account accessible to the virus through the sync feature.
Just unbeliveable... Going to try downgrading to 5.1.1, and trying data recovery after that. Don't know what to do if that doesn't work.

I'm currently running the newest MightyROM, but this problem has been happening in the last few releases. After setting up my email accounts, eventually the accounts disappear from the accounts listing. The envelope icons are still on the mail screen, but nothing works. Is there to fix this without a hard reset?
I am using the 1/4 MightyRom and experiencing the exact same problem. I can't delete the invisible account or even make one to replace it. Any help?

Found out what the problem was. After flashing to the new ROM, do a clear storage to get rid of any old junk from the previous flash, then do the carrier provisioning before doing anything else. I haven't had a problem since taking those steps.
Same problem here
I have the same problem, want to be on the thread when someone comes up with a solution. Thanks
I done the task29, then ran sprint MR2, then installed BigMaxSense rom. Ran clear storage twice then I started to configure phone back the way I wanted it, but I still losing my email accounts. Any solutions
I have a stock verizon MR1 rom, and I have gotten this a few times. When it happens, I get a screen asking me to reenter my Activesync password. Then my POP account is gone. Still taking up space, but gone. I also lose my cookies with login passwords for all web sites.
Luckily I keep recent backups using Spite Backup, and I restores gets me going again.
Pretty odd.
This may or may not be related...
Original device: WM6.1/Sense2.1
Replacement device: WM6.5/Sense2.1
Backed-up email accounts using HTC backup. Without pre-creating the accounts in the new device, I restored the accounts from the backup. Sense and Titanium both show these accounts and I can access the emails that were restored, but I can't download new emails. I can't delete these accounts because they don't show up in the account selector screen. I had to create a new account (same information as before) with a new "name" to differentiate it from the previous account.
I can find no way to remove these non-listed accounts short of hard-resetting the device and removing the accounts from the list of files to be restored.
Is this related or am I just wasting everyones time?

That is actually expected.
I don't know the exact details, but there is a security feature that locks out the email database when the file is simply restored to new hardware like that. There may be some export/import way around it, but just moving the file won't work.
Not exactly related.
i rooted my thunderbolt a few days ago and everything was working great. I downloaded titanium backup and while messing around, I somehow deleted the “file”/”app” that controls my phones data. After that, the only way I could get an internet connection was if I had wifi… I also deleted the play.google market app..
on the problem. I did a factory reset and the internet is back up and working. The problem is, I still have no market app and that’s where all my previous apps are stored. i logged on to play.google.com, and when I go to re-install one of my apps, it doesn’t bring my current phone up on the list.. I somehow installed the barcode reader but when I go to read an app code, it takes me to internet and says I don’t have permission… any help would be greatly appreciated.
same prob.. solution would be appreciated
My wife lost her phone, and I recommended changing all of her passwords because we don't know if it is in the wilderness or someone picked it up. Then I realized I could push apps from the Market to her phone such as AndroidLost, I've tried to push several apps, it says they're successful but they don't work as intended so I doubt they installed on the phone.
I tried to reset the password back to the old one and google won't let you. So am I 100% SOL?
I factory reset my oppo find 7, and lost my backup that I had set up, is there anyway I can get my contacts back? I don't care about the photos and other stuff. Just need the contacts.

If you use the normal 'Phone' app to manage calls and contacts, then Google would have synced the contacts.
Just setup the previous Gmail account (Settings->Accounts) which you had used and you will get it back
I just tried that and nothing worked. I don't know why but I thought I had, had Google sync everything. Also I saw if I root this device and try out android data recovery software it might work. Do you think it will?

No I don't think it'll work. You'll get only some of the contacts back.
Because there's high possibility that the memory blocks used for that contacts db and files would have been overwritten by some current data.
Anyway, you can try. I'd recommend something like this: http://www.androidphonesoft.com/resources/recover-lost-contacts-from-android-phone.html
Yup I was talking about this lol
Well, wechat has always been a problem for me since I change ROM, device many times, sometimes even with a clean flash of the same ROM, or just a reset.
I always have a nandroid backup and a titanium backup, unless I am faced with a bootloop issue and lose system partition. ( I still recover my data partition)
I successfully restore the backup of Wechat, it copies everything and works(as long as I don't turn on my wifi.)
Problem starts after I turn on the wifi.
The great Wechat security feature will ask to verify the identity, which is good until you have a phone number attached to it. but bad if you have lost it, or you are out of coverage area. cause then you can't login, cause you also can't scan the QR code from the previously logged in device and have just one friend or 2 who can't verify it for you as well, even when it's the same device, running the same ROM.
So What changed? perhaps android ID.
So I tried to change the android id from my previous logged in backup. but sadly my nandroid had no database stored in the data/data/com.android.providers.setting folder
so I looked further and got the old android id from my data\com.whatsapp\shared_prefs\com.google.android.gms.measurement.prefs.xml file
I then changed my android id with the same old id, reset app data again for wechat, restored data. but still it doesn't recognize the device with the same ROM, same MAC id, same android id.
I then found that wechat also stores google aid(advertisement id) which also gets changed after a reset or flashing again.
sadly I still haven't found a way to modify it with my previous id, although I can see it in my wechat data backup folder in the file
\shared_prefs\com.tencent.mm_preferences_google_aid.xml
yes, you can easily reset it, but I need to modify it in order to test if this can let me bypass the identify security thing.
I don't know what else to suspect other than these 2 ids after a ROM reset.
Well you can change/modify the google aid as well
here
google.android.gms/shared_prefs adid_settings.xml
it still didn't worked for me. what else am I missing to make this work? No other app has such crazy security that locks it's own owner.
I really wished they had an email verification for identity verification as well. anyways, I am out of ideas now, if anyone can contribute to this post, it would be appreciated.
